An unspoken rule goes into bringing together a show about young adults in their twenties: they must be hot. Like, The …
Téa Leoni is Elizabeth McCord in Madam Secretary. When the former Secretary of State is killed in a plane crash, Elizabeth tops The President's short list to replace Vincent Marsh. As her former boss at the CIA, President Dalton knows Elizabeth is an out of the box thinker who won't hesitate to break protocol but won't compromise her high moral standards.
The show follows her early days in office as she familiarizes herself with Washington politics and advising The President on foreign affairs. She's less interested in PR-friendly photo ops and dinners and more on doing what's right, whether it's protecting those threatened with ethnic genocide or preventing two American teenagers from being executed.
Just as Elizabeth is starting to find her footing, she discovers that her predecessor's death may not have been accidental from a former CIA colleague. Before he can investigate further, he is killed in a suspicious, single car accident. Elizabeth soon discovers that Vincent Marsh may have put a target on his back when his plans to run against President Dalton became known to certain DC power players, including The President.
Elizabeth continues to keep peace in the world while seeking justice for her friend and watching her own back against unknown enemies.
