Limitless has officially been canceled. It will not air any new episodes on any platforms.

Sadly, it appears as if Limitless does, indeed, have a limit.

At least as far as the number of episodes of the drama that will air.

Despite the series not being included on the upcoming CBS schedule, there had been hope that Limitless would be able to find another distributor.

But showrunner Craig Sweeney ended that hope on Twitter this afternoon.

"I'm truly sad to report that #Limitless will not continue on any platform," Sweeney wrote, adding out of gratitude:

"Thanks so much to everyone who watched."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Amazon and Netflix passed on picking up the CBS drama, which aired its final installment on April 26.

The small screen version of the 2011 movie by the same name featured Jake McDorman as a man given mental superpowers by the nootropic drug NZT.

It was produced by the film's star, Bradley Cooper, who made multiple appearances on Limitless Season 1.

Limitless averaged 9.7 million viewers and a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49 including DVR playback. Not shabby numbers, really.

But they paled in comparison to those of the show's Tuesday night counterparts, NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans.

With all three NCIS versions returning in 2016-2017, as well as cop dramas Training Day and MacGyver on tap, CBS simply didn't have room on its schedule.

It is betting that one of those two new programs can outperform the now-canceled series.

Overall, America's most-watched broadcast network also gave the axe to Rush Hour and Angel From Hell.

It picked up Life in Pieces, Code Black and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, while Supergirl was canceled but will move to The CW for season two.

What do you think of the Limitless cancelation? Did you see it coming?

And which new CBS show holds the most appeal going forward?

A deadly black ops assignment and an homage to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

It’s not exactly the combo I ever would have thought of mixing together, but it wound up working on Limitless Season 1 Episode 7.

And if you haven’t had the chance to see Matthew Broderick skip school in the John Hughes classic, go watch it. Seriously. You can even ask Brian Finch to loan you his VHS copy.

The CIA Borrows Brian - Limitless
(CBS/Michael Parmelee)

The outset of the hour is almost shot for shot how Ferris Bueller begins, and you can’t help but smile as Brian takes on the Ferris role and fools Mike and Ike into thinking that he’s sick.

There’s some alterations to the dialogue from the John Lennon quote to being expected to go to work on such a great day, but you can tell the love and attention to detail in making those moments seem just like the movie.

But the hour takes a real sharp turn with Brian being kidnapped and set up to work with the CIA on a secret mission.

It becomes a much darker tale as Brian gets truly in the thick of it when he learns that the ops team he’s been recruited to plan to kill their target.

Sure, he names them characters from Ferris Bueller, but these tactical team members are far from Rooney and Cameron.

Turns out, they are cold-blooded enough to turn on each other and kill for a massive $10 million reward.

Yet, even with the training Brian received on Limitless Season 1 Episode 5, his real weapon winds up being his enhanced brain power on NZT. And I was glad that he wasn’t some superhero that could take them all out action style, but he was instead forced to try and tactically figure his way out.

That meant convincing “Cameron” to kill his partner, and it was a rather shocking moment when it happened considering the light-heartedness of the Ferris Bueller aspect.

And as we would later see, the moment affected Rebecca considering she’d been able to keep Brian out of the messy parts of what they do. He was far more involved than he would have liked to have been, but the situation forced him to have to get his hands dirty.

But it was great to see Brian’s version of Rebecca as Sloane, especially in the matching outfit, as she tried to help him figure out a way to escape. I’m sure that was a fun scene to film.

It was also rather humorous when Brian lamented that he was no longer Ferris but instead Cameron, as we again got what felt like another shot for shot moment.

Even the ending was fantastic in the way the Russian, all woozy from Brian’s laced NZT pill, basically became Rooney from Ferris Bueller right on down to getting on the bus and being offered a gummy candy.

And the hour clearly wouldn’t have been the true homage to the movie without an after-credits moment of Brian coming out and telling people to go because the show was over.

So while there were no stealing of Ferraris for joyrides or parade antics involving floats and “Danke Schoen,” “Brian Finch’s Black Op” had plenty of Ferris Bueller moments for viewers to enjoy. And the way it combined a much darker dilemma for Brian to be involved without getting so overly serious, made this an enjoyable hour.

If anything, this episode really made me want to see Brian take his playful imagination and come up with some other movies he/another episode can emulate.

Did you like the episode taking on Ferris Bueller? What's a movie you'd love to see them pay homage to next? Sound off below, and see it all again when you watch Limitless online now.

On Limitless Season 1 Episode 6, Brian is hit with some dangerous side effects from taking NZT. Plus, Bradley Cooper returns as Eddie Morra!

The post Limitless Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Side Effects May Include… appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
Eddie Morra is looking for someone to trust, but can Brian – and viewers – trust him?

Sure, it’s probably easy to get sucked in to believe whatever Eddie is preaching. After all, he is portrayed by Bradley Cooper, and that gives Eddie a major bonus.

But let’s see, Eddie threatened to hurt Brian’s family if he didn’t do what he wanted, he tried to get him to frame Rebecca, and he waited a really long time to give him the booster shot when the side effects really started kicking in.

That’s not exactly the type of person I would want to suddenly team up with.

Limitless Season 1 Episode 6 marked the return of Cooper as Eddie, albeit through a few short text messages and one rooftop meeting. The presence of Eddie’s character has certainly continued to loom over the series even when he’s not around, and especially through his fixer, Mr. Sands.

But there is something exciting when Eddie actually does appear, and while I wish we got much more from the character, I’m at least thankful that Cooper’s even willing to make these appearances. He certainly could have never even joined the series or been simply a producer. So the fact that we do get to see the continuing story of Eddie with Cooper in the role is welcomed.

We’ve also only barely scratched the surface of Eddie’s big plans, and they aren’t just about rice.

It makes me wonder if Eddie is having these conversations with others he’s chosen to give NZT to that we and the FBI don’t know about. Or is it simply just Brian?

The hour did dig a little deeper into the development of NZT, and while we didn’t find the inventor, we did learn that someone sent out the formula. And the doctor started his test trials, working to help people, all before someone started clamping down on the NZT use and seemingly killing off people using it.

With the way the episode ended with Mr. Sands blowing up that guy, it’s probably safe to say that Eddie has been behind it all. But that means there’s someone else out there with a certain level of power and knowledge of NZT that might actually be more of an ally to Brian and a threat to Eddie.

Because while Eddie claimed he was just testing Brian, even giving him those extra pills as a nice gesture, it still feels like there are some strings attached.

Either way, Brian better be careful.

While I never doubted that Brian would wind up OK by episode’s end, it was at least good to see that using NZT isn’t just the fun and games that Brian makes it out to be. There are some very real consequences just from taking the drug.

At the same time, Brian revealing some truth about the file to Rebecca and seeing her willing to help Brian out was a positive. She could have easily just turned him in, too.

Unfortunately, Rebecca spent her time playing war games, which weren't that exciting. We did get to see why Naz chose her, and that Naz wanted to show Rebecca the file. But it wasn't that fascinating of a side plot when compared to the NZT hunt.

Overall, I was expecting a little more from the episode than mostly just following a sick Brian around and then a short chat with Eddie. But I liked that the hour focused more on the bigger mythology of the series and provided some interesting tidbits to mull over, rather than just having a regular case of the week at the forefront.

And of course, Cooper's return was a fun bonus for the hour. Though, I still can't help but think that the further we get into Limitless Season 1, the more Cooper will really wind up being the bad guy by season's end.

Were you glad to see Cooper back? Is Eddie a good guy or a bad guy? Do you trust that he wants to team up with Brian? Sound off below, and watch Limitless online to make sure you're all caught up!

On Limitless Season 1 Episode 5, a case gets personal for Brian that leads to a major decision. Plus, there's a Dexter reunion! Find out how it all went down in our review!

The post Limitless Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Personality Crisis appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
As Limitless Season 1 has (and should) continued to play up the fun during its episodes, it’s good to see some consequences and more serious aspects get their moments.

The case of the week for Limitless Season 1 Episode 5 certainly implied mass chaos and destruction with the bomb, which never really got that close to being that, but it was far more of a device to give Brian some character growth outside of being Mr. Happy Nice Guy.

The day was saved, and the bad guy stopped, but there was a cost.

And it wasn’t a cost I thought the series would even attempt. I assumed Chris Harper being shot would have been merely a flesh wound, not him getting killed.

Instead, Brian learned that working for the FBI isn’t just fun and games, real people can get hurt. But it wasn’t just that someone was killed, it was someone he had managed to sort of bond with, get to know, and even at one point begrudgingly manipulate to get him to that meeting with his brother.

Brian felt responsible, and as much as it was good that Rebecca tried to talk to him about what he’d done, about the overall good he managed to do, this wasn’t some quick fix. It was a solid emotional moment for the character that also played into him telling Rebecca about her father and NZT.

He’d been toying around with the idea of telling her, but the NZT version of himself was adamant Brian not tell Rebecca.

That was an interesting aspect that even Brian questioned in that it was odd that him on NZT was talking to him like a different person. Didn’t he just have a conversation with Rebecca about being two different people on NZT, and she reassured him it’s just one him?

I’m curious to see how that might play out the longer Brian is on NZT.

But I was glad that Brian off NZT was determined to tell Rebecca about the file, despite the warnings, despite Supermax, and despite Mr. Sands. This was something he felt he had to do, and frankly, I’m pleased it’s not a storyline that’s getting dragged out over the course of the season.

Granted, Mr. Sands is going to be pissed, and Eddie Morra probably as well, but hopefully it brings Brian and Rebecca even closer together. Though, I’m sure there’s going to be more questions than answers after the fact.

Bradley Cooper is going to have some explaining to do.

At the same time, I like how Limitless is treating Brian and Rebecca’s relationship without forcing them to be romantically involved. It’s just not necessary, especially this early in the series.

So it was a actually a pleasant surprise to find out that Rebecca had a secret boyfriend in Rooks, in addition to seeing the Dexter reunion between Jennifer Carpenter and Desmond Harrington. The two have a solid chemistry together and are believable as a couple.

Their characters have some great flirty banter, and it will be interesting to see that relationship grow. What’s more, Rooks was actually a cool guy helping Brian (after the hilarious Bruce Lee debacle) get some training, and he doesn’t seem to be some jerk who has to step on Brian if he gets jealous.

This was definitely an hour that really emphasized the importance of the characters on the show and making them more than just tools to solve a twist-filled case. And it’s great to see that as the story progresses for Brian, as much fun as it is to see him crack jokes and make clay versions of the others, adding some emotional and impactful moments help round things out. It makes you far more interested to see where the overall story goes.

Were you excited to see the Dexter reunion? What will Rebecca think when she reads the file? Sound off below, and get hooked when you watch Limitless online now!

Guess even when Brian is on NZT, juggling various cases and assignments can still be a difficult task.

Things do seem to wind up working out for him, but it’s nice to see that not everything is a simple breeze right away.

And Limitless Season 1 Episode 4 tried to throw a variety of tasks at Brian to deal with. However, not all of those wound up being interesting or that engaging.

Ben Is Put To The Test - Limitless
(CBS/Michael Parmelee)

The Zhang case was just boring, and I found myself not even really caring whether Rebecca and Boyle even completed that job. Sure, there were supposed to be some parallels with Brian stealing the NZT files from Naz, but the case sort of just became background noise.

And wow, how ridiculous was it that the password was just one word. No numbers or symbols? C'mon, she's supposed to be a special agent and "mercy" is the password?

But I was glad that Mr. Sands was already taking Brian to task, and it's interesting to learn why Eddie would even want those files. Good for Mr. Sands at not falling for Brian’s trick files, he definitely can hold his own against even an NZT user.

It also was good to see Mr. Sands bring up some personal consequences, from Brian’s father not getting better to Brian not getting his booster shot. Things could get very bad for Brian (you know, like death) if he doesn’t play along.

But even he isn’t just rolling over and doing whatever Mr. Sands/Eddie wants exactly. Sure, he got the files and would be giving them over, but not before reading them. It was a smart move on his part to get some extra knowledge on what the FBI has on NZT.

That revealed a brief tidbit of info on Rebecca’s father’s involvement with NZT. And it may have been a bit more than just him using.

I guess it was positive that Rebecca also got a chance to be able to connect with her father through his art, but it will be interesting to learn more about his past and his probable connection to Eddie.

The most engaging case had to be the one involving the mouse. That definitely had more of a personal connection to Brian because he knew Arthur, and that made it seem far more important to viewers. Plus, even Brian was spending his time focusing on that case instead of his other tasks.

It tried to be a little more twisty than it needed to be going from stealing info to killing for inheritance money, but I enjoy getting to see Brian passionately solve a case that means something to him.

The most enjoyable part of the hour had to be Brian sneaking his way into Claxion. From his reaction to the alarm going off to using the mice as a diversion to texting Rebecca while escaping through the laundry chute, it all made the moment more fun than super serious.

Even the two of them digging through trash explaining how they solved the case to the true killer showed their solid rapport and ability to get things done as a team.

Their relationship and working together, whether it’s just casual chatting or discussing a case, is growing on me.

This was a fair episode, even if not all of it worked or was exciting. However, it's clear that when the show chooses to have a little fun, it truly stands out.

What else will Mr. Sands ask for? Does Rebecca's father have a connection to Eddie? Sound off below, and watch Limitless online now to get in on the case-solving fun.

Bradley Cooper is pretty easy to like and brings a charisma and charm with him to many of his roles, and it’s exciting that he is continuing to portray his movie character on Limitless Season 1.

Sure, he appears in a limited capacity on the television series, but his character’s presence is still felt, especially in his power over Brian Finch.

So it’s rather fascinating that Eddie Morra, essentially the hero of the movie Limitless, has found himself something of a villain on the TV series. Or has he?

It’s hard not to start thinking of Eddie in that way after what seemed like a pretty obvious threat from his fixer, Sands. Do what we want or the people around you get hurt.

Does that sound like something a typical good guy would do?

If anything, it makes me even more intrigued as to what type of “work” Sands/Eddie will have for Brian to do. It’s going to get very messy and complicated real quick.

And I actually liked that the series had a chance to get a little dark again by the end of Limitless Season 1 Episode 3. There’s a feeling that amongst all the procedural stuff and the fun light-hearted case solving, there can be some real stakes, too.

Again, much like Limitless Season 1 Episode 2, the hour did get to have some fun, especially when it came to Brian.

Who else enjoyed Brian’s fantasy sequences, whether it was him enjoying his moment with his ex or imagining how Rebecca would take down her target? It’s great to see him enjoying himself while using that brain power on NZT.

And I was glad that Brian was having a dilemma over getting back with his ex, especially in trying to figure out if she liked him for him or because he was super smart on the drug. I wasn’t surprised Brian tried to use the drug on the date or that when it wore off, the two still seemed to be clicking.

Though, it was Brian’s talk with Rebecca about the two Brians that really stood out. That was a real relationship building moment for the two, taking a break from all the work of catching hired killers and dirty cops to have a real heart to heart.

But the payoff for that moment really came when Brian was down and out after having to break up again with his ex, fearing for her after his meeting with Sands, and the two got to share a beer together. Rather than ditch him or stick to just being work partners, she was there for him.

I’m sure we’ll see these two wind up being romantically involved soon enough, but this was a solid moment that didn’t involve quips or busting down doors.

And I’ve got to also mention that I hope that Rebecca’s partner Spelman Boyle doesn’t disappear and become completely forgotten as the series goes on. I’m glad we get to see her have an actual partner who is competent and is more than say part of some punchline. I’d like to see Brian, Rebecca and Spelman keep working as more of a team rather than it just becoming a Brian and Rebecca show.

Plus, I hope they continue to throw “Mike and Ike” into the mix as that always adds some humor in their interactions with Brian.

So of course, Brian and the FBI saved the day and got their bad guys in the twist that it was a bunch of dirty cops involved in the murder. That wasn’t a surprise.

However, it’s the character of Brian, the fun that’s had with solving that type of case, and the sprinkling of some deeper and larger story involving Cooper’s Eddie that really has me continuing to enjoy Limitless Season 1. Things are off to a very positive start for this series.

What do you think of Sands? Did you enjoy Brian’s fantasy scenes? Sound off below, and get hooked on the series when you watch Limitless online at TV Fanatic!
