The death knell has run for Lethal Weapon, a FOX series with as much drama behind the scenes as you got to see on screen. Get the full story inside!

Lethal Weapon is canceled.

There will be no fourth season to the Fox drama.

Rebooting the already rebooted franchise after the Clane Crawford debacle was always a big bet.

After Crawford got canned as a result of still wholly unknown drama behind the scenes and between him and series star, Damon Wayans, many expected the show to get canceled after 13 episodes.

Renewal Scorecard 2018-19

Seann William Scott, always a fan favorite, entered the show at the most unflattering time possible but made a great showing as a new character named Cole.

Things must have perked up for Wayans upon his arrival, too, because he signed on for an additional three episodes despite earlier saying he would be done with the show for good after 13.

That's most unfortunate for the remaining fans of the action-packed drama, however, as the Lethal Weapon Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger.

Lethal Weapon: Was Martin Riggs Killed Off?

Creator and executive producer Matt Miller was hopeful for a fourth season to address that cliffhanger, but they will not come to fruition.

Lethal Weapon's airing partner, The Gifted, was also canceled earlier this month.

Fox has grand plans underway to overhaul their offerings with a lot of cancelations and pickups underway.

Thankfully, The Resident and 9-1-1 were renewed previously, and Empire, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, Last Man Standing, and The Simpsons have all gotten renewals as well.

It's been almost a year since Clayne Crawford was ousted from Lethal Weapon, and the star has lined up his next TV role.

TV Line is reporting that the actor has boarded an upcoming installment of Hulu's anthology, Into the Dark

The series which consists of 12 installments, releases a movie-length installment every month.

Crawford's installment finds the actor taking on the role of a widower who embarks on a road trip with his daughters.

However, things take a turn when they are hunted by supernatural entities.

It all sounds intriguing, right?

Josephine Langsford, Robyn Lively, Lia McHugh, and Dwight Hicks are also part of the cast of the Father's Day-themed installment.

His episode is slated to air in June. The show has a knack for unspooling an episode around a specific holiday in the month it is airing.

Crawford's exit from Lethal Weapon featured a lot of drama between him and his co-star Damon Wayans, with both actors revealing they had issues with each other.

Those allegedly spilled on to the set, and it became too difficult to keep the show running without some changes.

Crawford was fired for alleged behavior on the set, but he later refuted these claims, branding them "blatant f–king lies."

Seann William Scott later stepped in to replace Crawford, allowing Fox to renew the series for a third season, but the drama has not stopped behind the scenes.

Wayans admitted that he was quitting the series after the third season, but there were later changes implemented, and it's said he is happy with them.

However, the show remains in a precarious position because its ratings are not good.

In fact, Lethal Weapon Season 3 slumped almost 30 percent to 3.1 million total viewers and a mere 0.7 rating in the demo.

Those figures make it Fox's fourth-lowest rated scripted, making it a likely cancellation.

The SImpsons got renewed at TCA. Could a Scream Queens revival be on the way? Could Fox really bring 24 back? Get all the details right here.

A lot of Fox news from TCA today.

There was a double renewal, updates on the potential return of two popular series, as well as some tidbits on the future of shows that have yet to be renewed.

Homer and Marge Are Shocked - The Simpsons
(FOX)

The Simpsons has been renewed for an additional two seasons, bringing the iconic animated series to 32 seasons and a colossal 713 episodes.

"Woo hoo! 32 Seasons! Watch your back 'Meet the Press,'" said Homer Simpson in a press release.

The Simpsons Season 30 is currently averaging 4.8 million total viewers and a 1.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.

It remains a hit and will be around for several years if it continues to keep up the pace.

The Simpsons joins The Masked Singer, and  So You Think You Can Dance as Fox's renewals for the 2019-2020 TV season.

On the Move - Scream Queens Season 2 Episode 9
(FOX/Michael Becker)

Meanwhile, Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier weighed in on the potential Scream Queens revival that was mulled by Ryan Murphy earlier this week.

He admitted “there are no plans right now on Scream Queens” but “we take Ryan Murphy seriously when he wants to build something.”

Murphy wasn't exactly clear about where a potential revival for the series would land, but given that 20th Century Fox TV owns it, it was likely to wind up on one of the Fox stations.

The other possibility is that it moves to Hulu. The first two seasons are already on the streaming platform, so there's a chance it could find a new home there.

The Final Plan - Scream Queens
(FOX)

There was also much chatter about the future of Lethal Weapons after Damon Wayans strongly suggested that he was done with the controversial drama after its third season.

Related: Damon Wayans: I Quit Lethal Weapon!

“Those comments predate me, but in speaking with the producers [and] with [Warner Bros,], I’m told that — and I think the show reflects it — that they’re walking in lock-step,” Collier told reporters.

“I actually think that show has really hit its stride well.” While there's no word on a fourth season right now, Collier did say he's been impressed with the show's ratings “over the last few weeks.”

Lethal Weapon Season 3 Leads
(Peter Yang/FOX)

The show has remained steady with it season average since returning from its holiday hiatus, so that's good news.

However, the show has been filled with controversy over the last year, so it's possible that Fox will want to put the series to bed for good this season.

There were two 24 projects in the works this development season, but Collier confirmed at TCA that neither of those projects will be moving forward.

He did stress that it was "a blessing” to have the 24 “legacy and a responsibility to bring it back.”

The previous attempt at 24 without Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer did not go down well with critics and audiences. As such, it was canceled after just one season.

Another day, another twist in the Lethal Weapon tale.

Lethal Weapon Season 3 will last longer than initially planned. Fox has placed an order for two additional episodes, bringing this season's tally to 15 installments, according to Deadline

What's more, series star, Damon Wayans is on board for these bonus episodes. News of his involvement is quite the surprise given that he dropped a bombshell on his cast, crew, and fans everywhere that he was quitting the series after the initial 13 episodes were produced.

"I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13,” the actor said during an interview with Electric Urban Report.

“So I really don’t know what they’re planning, but that’s what I’m planning. I’m a 58-year-old diabetic, and I’m working 16-hour days.”

“You have to look yourself in the eye and ask, who are you? It can’t be all about work," Wayans continued.

(FOX)

Deadline states that Wayans has met with producers, and there have been adjustments to the shooting schedule, and with the addition of diabetic meals being available on set, Wayans agreed to continue for the two episodes.

It's unclear at this stage whether these episodes will bring the story to a close or if they will end on a cliffhanger, setting up a potential fourth season.

Related: Lethal Weapon Season 3 Teaser: Meet the New Partner!

Through three installments, Lethal Weapon Season 3 is averaging a 0.8 rating. This is on par with its spring average, but it is tied with The Gifted as Fox's lowest-rated scripted series.

More worrying is that Fox does not own the series, so if the ratings are not where they need to be, the network will not hesitate to swing the ax.

Given all the bad press the show has received since Clayne Crawford was fired, it wouldn't be out the realm of possibility that Fox wants to give this show and ending and move on.

Keesha Sharp who plays Trish Murtaugh shared the following on Twitter after the extra episodes were announced:

Yay! We get more episodes this season to continue the story! Damon’s not going anywhere 😉 🙏🏾 To our #LethalWeapon fans: THANK YOU so much for supporting us! Our numbers are great (in a tough time slot!) & DVR numbers are stellar! WE ♥️ U!!

Another casting blow has rocked Fox's Lethal Weapon.

Damon Wayans has revealed that he is quitting his role on the drama series after the 13-episode third season wraps production in December.

He made the announcement during an interview with Electronic Urban Report

When pressed for clarification, he maintained that he was done with the show.

“I have seven grandkids. I’ve been missing recitals and graduations. To me, it’s just not worth it. There is a better way to live life.”

When asked what his post-Lethal Weapon future would look like, he said the following:

“I’m going to return to the stage and try to find my smile again.”

This stunning news comes just months after Wayans' co-star, Clayne Crawford was let go from the series following after it was alleged that his bad behavior made the set environment difficult, and the two stars appeared to be at loggerheads behind the scenes and publically on social media.

Crawford spoke on the podcast, Drinkin' Bros, in August and opened up about his thoughts on being fired.

"It's a little different when you replace Becky or the mom off of Fresh Prince. If they'd replaced the Fresh Prince, we'd have been like, 'What the f**k are we watching anyway?'" he said at the time.

"That's why I just didn't think it was possible."

The actor was also open about someone blackmailing him with footage of has alleged outbursts every time he complained about what it was like on the set.

Damon Wayans Claims Clayne Crawford Injured Him on Lethal Weapon Set

Lethal Weapon Season 3 debuted on September 26 with Seann William Scott stepping as Crawford's replacement, a new character without any relation to Riggs.

The news that Wayans is leaving is quite the shocker, and it could be the final nail in the coffin for this drama series.

Losing two leads in the same year is a big thing.

It's also worthy to note Lethal Weapon was in competition with Lucifer for the final renewal on the schedule. Lucifer lost, setting off a massive campaign to save the show with a cast who loved it on which worked well together and with many stories left to tell.

Lucifer got his wings back whether he wanted them or not when Netflix picked up the series for a fourth season. What are the odds Fox is regretting its decision now?

Lethal Weapon returned to TV for the first time since Clayne Crawford was fired and replaced by Seann William Scott, but did the show really go there?

By that we mean did Lethal Weapon Season 3 Episode 1 kill off the beloved character as a way to draw a line under the whole scandal?

With Lethal Weapon Season 2 concluding with Riggs being shot by his half-brother Garrett while visiting his wife's grave, all signs were pointing to death for the character.

Questions - Lethal Weapon Season 1 Episode 1
(Richard Foreman/Fox)

We learned off the bat that Riggs was indeed dead, and that Garrett killed himself following the shooting.

Murtaugh, however, was very much in denial about the whole thing and it never really hit him until he found a video on Garrett's phone that showed him confessing to the murder.

Clayne was officially fired from Lethal Weapon in May, and the show was on the bubble for renewal or cancellation as producers scrambled to find a replacement for the popular star.

The reason for his ousting was said to be that he exhibited bad behavior on the set and that he made the Fox drama difficult to work on.

There was even leaked audio that teased an on-set confrontation between Crawford and co-lead, Damon Wayans.

Clayne Crawford has opened up about being fired from Lethal Weapon.

The star was officially let go from the series earlier this year after it was alleged that his bad behavior on the set of the Fox drama made it challenging to work on.

In addition to the initial allegations, leaked audio from the set teased a confrontation between Crawford and co-lead Damon Wayans.

Crawford spoke on the podcast, Drinkin' Bros and was candid about being let go.

"It's a little different when you replace Becky or the mom off of Fresh Prince. If they'd replaced the Fresh Prince, we'd have been like, 'What the f**k are we watching anyway?'" he said.

"That's why I just didn't think it was possible.

Related: Clayne Crawford Fired from Lethal Weapon!

"I just didn't think they were going to get rid of me, I guess. And if they did, I thought they'd give me a buzz."

Crawford's status on the show famously held up a third season renewal, but the path was cleared for it to be relaunched with Seann William Scott being cast as the new co-lead.

There were also reports that Crawford lashed out during the filming of Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 9 in October last year.

According to Variety, background noise was interrupting the filming of the scenes, and it made it difficult for the production crew.

The website even has a video, allegedly of Crawford yelling at patrons of a nearby pool.

Shut the f–k up! Goddamnit Newman, f–king they’re right here! Get somebody in here with a f–king walkie and shut ’em the f–k up! Or did we not pay for this f–king place? If we did, shut ’em the f–k up!” he reportedly yelled during the video.

But during the podcast, Crawford claimed there was no pool, calling it a "blatant f**king lie," but confirmed that was his voice in the footage.

He said he was yelling at the assistant director because the show was behind schedule because of the interruptions.

"I snapped," he said.

"Should I have gone to my trailer? 100%. Should I have just gone and waited? That's what I was instructed to do when there was a problem – you go sit in your trailer, and you lock your door, and you take a nap."

"Hollywood is very sensitive, so I should not have screamed and yelled because it's a bunch of very delicate flowers out there."

Crawford also claimed that he was being blackmailed with the threat of the tapes of his outbursts being leaked whenever he brought up Wayans' behavior.

“I knew that they were going to release these tapes because they’d been blackmailing me with them for months and months and months, the entire second season."

"And I have all the text messages from these people and voicemails from these people saying, ‘Obviously you’re not the problem, but you’ve got to get ahead of this because you know they’re going to use those tapes against you.'”

The other big moment from the podcast involved Clayne addressing the on-set feud with Wayans, and he seemed to think it wasn't as bad as the media implied.

"It's like sports, which we take very seriously and there's no life or death," he said.

"There's a lot of screaming and yelling. It's sometimes; it's f**king necessary to get the job done when there's a clock ticking."

"Not in Hollywood. People are very sensitive nowadays, and here's the thing – go for it. Go try and make Apocalypse Now where everyone's trying to have a good time and being sweet."

"Go. Go, I just want you to f**king go and make Shawshank Redemption, and everyone have a great time, and it's never difficult on anyone."

As allegations about Crawford's status with the drama series swirled earlier this year, he released a statement via social media, apologizing if he caused any problems for the cast and crew.

"I absolutely love, respect and care for my crew and cast, and would never intentionally jeopardize so many jobs," Crawford wrote.

"I am incredibly sorry if my passion for doing good work has ever made anyone feel less than comfortable on our set, or feel less than celebrated for their efforts."

"Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention Lethal Weapon is receiving because of these incidents."

In addition to all of the above, one of Crawford's co-stars chatted with TV Line and said "This rumor that Clayne is difficult…. He’s not."

Crawford's firing has been met with a negative response from fans, and it remains to be seen whether fans will give the rejigged version a shot.

Lethal Weapon will remain on Tuesdays this fall, but it will be moving to the 9/8c slot out of The Gifted. The two shows are very different, so it's going to be a risky move to pair them up.

Lethal Weapon is returning to Fox this fall, but it will be without Clayne Crawford.

His former co-star Damon Wayans opened up about what it's been like on the set of the hit drama with the addition of Seann William Scott.

"We're only the first [episode] in but it's definitely a lot lighter in tone, and we're having fun — on and off set," the actor shared with reporters Thursday night at Fox's TCA party.

Crawford was ousted from the show back in May following reports that the show was in danger due to Crawford's conduct on the set.

But Wayans was ready to put all of that drama behind him and said the following of Clayne:

“I wish him the best, I wish him luck. Onward and upward.”

If you watch Lethal Weapon online, you know that Riggs was shot as Lethal Weapon Season 2 came to a close, but Wayans also said that Clayne was an important part of the creative process.

“I know that he was involved in all the writing, he knew he was being shot, and he was very happy with where the show was going,” Wayans said. “He was involved in the process.”

With the news that Crawford is out of the series, those gunshots will be fatal, and the show will return later this year with a revamp.

Wayans went on to address where Murtaugh is when Season 3 kicks off and how he is introduced to Seann William Scott's Wesley Cole.

“Right now Murtaugh is mourning the death of his friend, so he is not that happy, silly Murtaugh, but I think what they want to do with the Wesley Cole character is, he is the light that Murtaugh needs to be pulled back from the dark,” Wayans said.

Cole “is an ex-CIA agent working on the same case, chasing mercenaries, investigating, solving crime together,” Wayans added. “It is love at first crime.”
