Our review of the Killjoys series finale reveals what happens during Dutch's detailed attack plan on The Lady in the resistance's final battle against her.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Finally, after being a step behind The Lady all season, the Killjoys and their resistance allies won when it counted on the series finale, Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10.

For an ultimate battle, there was a surprisingly low body count, with no one making a noble sacrifice at the end, which was a little disappointing.

Final Showdown -- Tall - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

In fact, one character thought dead even got resurrected.

The retrospective montage narrated by Khlyen was a perfect way to open the finale, reminding us how the characters' bonds had developed through the years.

Father-Daughter Tension - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

Dutch's stirring speech atop the rise set the stage for the battle to follow. The group hug, including the reluctant Turin, was an enjoyable pause before the storm.

Many of the best Killjoys episodes come when each character has his or her mission to undertake, and the finale was no exception.

There was Dutch and Khlyen on Arkin, Delle Sayeh and Aneela on Qresh, and Johnny and D'avin aboard the armada with Zephyr as monitor, all with their missions to complete.

Related: Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9 Review: Terraformance Anxiety

Pree, Gared, and Turin must have been left behind on the prison ship to plan the victory party.

On Arkin, Dutch and Khlyen certainly had some time to work on their issues, before and after The Lady arrived.

Yalena blamed him because he hadn't taken out The Lady despite his proximity while he was her prisoner.

Still Defiant - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

Khlyen was playing the long game, hoping that The Lady's growing humanity would bring her around.

Dutch correctly pointed out that human doesn't mean humane.

It was a solid plan to place a shield over Arkin after The Lady arrived, keeping ships from coming or going.

Too bad it didn't disrupt communications as Dutch had hoped.

Also, that meant that Dutch was trapped with The Lady, not an ideal place to be.

That's because The Lady could manipulate the pair through mind-control collars, which brought many of their past disputes back to life.

Important Weapon - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

It was a brutal showdown between the two, as the mentor had taught the student much of what she knew.

But Yalena was willing to battle to the death if that's what was necessary to give her team the time it needed to kill The Lady's real body.

Khlyen was willing to sacrifice himself if that's what it took to break free of The Lady and he was able to summon up the necessary memory from Dutch.

That tiny knife allows her to disable Khlyen and break free of The Lady's control.

Fortunately, her teammates and allies didn't leave her hanging.

Delle Sayeh Kendry and Aneela quickly took over Qresh. They humbled the haughty nobles who were making fun of their credentials and their fashion sense by playing the Hullen card.

Important Captive - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

Still, the bombardment of The Lady's armada from Qrest was but a distraction, to cover the approach by the cloaked Lucy.

Yes, it was the Jacoqis brothers undertaking the most important mission of their Killjoys career.

It was more important than they knew since Jaq had become The Lady's prisoner.

For those wondering how Jaq got captured, it turned out that he wanted to be.

His visions of the future showed that his father would soon be in trouble, so Jaq allowed himself to be found so that he would be nearby when D'avin arrived on the armada.

So Jaq simply slipped out of his restraints and was there to shoot the soldier who was about to fire on D'av from behind.

Villain Revealed - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

Jaq couldn't have foreseen himself getting shot.

But it did have the beneficial effect on bringing mother Aneela there on the fly, in time to singlehandedly wipe out most of those guarding The Lady's body.

Jaq also dissuaded Johnny from his original plan to set off the device that would place The Lady's body into hibernation mode.

Their new plan at least allowed them to get clear before the device went off. That allowed D'avin to make a clean kill, leaving The Lady's consciousness trapped in her host body on Arkin.

While all this boom-boom was ongoing, Zephyr had abandoned her monitor post to try to rescue Jaq, whom she had discovered was also on board the armada.

Zeph was rewarded for her good intentions with the return of Pip, the love of her life.

Surprise Reunion - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

Of all the deceased characters, Pip is the one who gets resurrected?

Oh, well. Pip being alive would be the only one that would be marginally believable, narratively speaking.

And, most of all, Zeph deserves a win.

Besides, with a Hullen spider in his brain, how long will Pip be back for anyway? At least Zeph will get closure.

Everything got tied up pretty neatly.

Aneela offered to transfuse Delle Sayeh to make her Hullen again, so their love can last, however. Also, Qresh is under their thumbs now.

Reunited Trio - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 10
(Syfy)

Kendry appointed Pree as Lord Governor of Westerley. He's an inspired choice to lead the rebuilding efforts on that planet.

There was a PDA between D'av and Dutch, and she finally admitted that she loved him. And Johnny handled it well.

Finally, Johnny and Lucy were off on a one-year sabbatical. I was hoping he would hook up with Rennika or Calvert, but leaving him unattached was probably for the best.

Of course, it was good that not everything was left happy ever after.

The Lady sent ships carrying hatchlings out of the Quad. This gives a target to hunt for the new, improved Level 6 RAC agents.

It also sets up a followup movie down the road. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

In conclusion, let's let D'avin sum things up: "Look, that's what makes us a great team. You lead. I shoot, Johnny gives a shit."

Fly on, Killjoys. Fly on.

Our review of Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9 reveals the results and consequences of the Killjoys' front assault on The Lady's terraforming factory in Old Town.

The post Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9 Review: Terraformance Anxiety appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
That's how to set up a series finale.

All the resistance members but one were brought back together on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9.

That one, Jaq, may turn out to be the most important piece in the final battle against The Lady.

The Trio Scrambles - Killjoys
(Ian Watson/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

The big happening in this penultimate episode was the reunion of the Killjoys and Aneela and Delle Sayeh Kendry, whose presence would soon prove important.

It was sweet watching "sisters" Dutch and Aneela reunite.

Under Attack - Killjoys
(Ken Woroner/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

It also became clear that the Killjoys and Aneela and Kendry were working at cross purposes to a degree, with the former trying to save Westerley and the latter seeking to preserve Qresh.

It's unlikely that will be too much of an obstacle, however, as they all want to defeat The Lady, first and foremost.

The Killjoys' fight against The Lady has had to be a guerilla action, attacking from the shadows and using guile for lack of resources.

Related: Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8 Review: Don't Stop Beweaving

What choice have they had when battling an ancient, god-like being?

That strategy had to change this episode.

D'avin had been training squads of prisoners to make sneak attacks to sabotage The Lady's factories.

Belching Poison - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9
(Syfy)

But The Lady centralized all her terraforming efforts in the Old Town factory, giving the resistance one big, fat target.

However, this presented the Killjoys with a couple of big problems to address.

First was finding the necessary ordnance to take out the factory.

So it was off to Qresh, to negotiate with a pair of recent frenemies.

Sure, the Killjoys saved Silas and Evie of Clan Rubell from a prisoner uprising back on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6.

Being nobility, the siblings showed absolutely no gratitude when the resistance came seeking weapons for their attack on the factory.

Targeting System - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9
(Ken Woroner/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

Since the Killjoys, being fugitives on the run, had no available cash, Silas and Evie opted for another form of payment: D'avin, to marry whichever of them he chose.

He looked aghast at the possibility, while Delle Sayeh smirked in the background.

It was probably just as well that his attempted inspirational speech got cut off by Dutch, who, after consulting with Aneela, made a better counteroffer.

She proposed making Clan Rubell one of The Nine important families on Qresh, should The Lady be defeated, saving D'av from a fate worse than death.

That was a smart move, keeping Aneela, a recent would-be quadrant conqueror, out of sight and in reserve.

So, the resistance had obtained the necessary firepower, based on the flimsiest of promises. That was some good negotiating.

On the Attack - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9
(Ken Woroner/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

Now the resistance just needed soldiers for what could be a suicidal mission.

The warden rightfully wouldn't let her prisoners who had volunteered to go on the stealth missions go on this one without Dutch addressing the change of plan.

What a stirring speech by Dutch to get through to the prisoners! No wonder she once again had the prisoners eating out of her hand.

Related: 37 Times Siblings Made Things More Interesting

So, the weapons and the soldiers were available for the assault.

But the Killjoys hedged their bets with a sneak attack on another front as well, with the most unlikely of agents — Gared.

Gared still blamed himself for having been turned by Khlyen to protect Pree.

A Difficult Position - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9
(Syfy)

This time, he was a double agent, taking "valuable" intel to Khlyen which was being fed to him by Johnny through an earpiece.

Naturally, the well-intentioned Gared soon screwed the pooch, speaking nervously about missiles being fired from a "broke" ship at The Lady's armada.

This led Khlyen to grab Gared's earpiece and learn that Dutch was still alive and attacking the factory.

Of course, no one expected Gared to properly execute his mission. Instead, it was just a way to get Khlyen away from The Lady.

Aneela correctly explained the importance of freeing Khlyen from The Lady, since he was a crucial part of her plans after she located Jaq.

The attack itself went surprisingly smoothly, accomplishing all its objectives. These included setting up the homing beacon and trapping Khlyen.

Final Stages - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9
(Syfy)

Khlyen gave them important information, explaining that the fog shrouding Old Town was aiding the hatchlings, not the people. This led Dutch to widen the targeting area for the missiles.

Like Aneela and Kendry, Khlyen seemed more concerned with saving his homeworld of Qresh and was content to sacrifice Westerley.

Related: Enjoy unlimited access to thousands of movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video

But, in the end, didn't Dutch end up sacrificing Old Town to save Westerley? RIP, Royale.

Dutch was hasty in knocking out Khlyen before he could spell out his plan. He spent the most time with The Lady, so surely he would have something useful to add.

Pree and Turin did a great job saving as many Old Town residents as possible, with only a handful getting fed to the hatchlings.

Nearing Victory - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 9
(Syfy)

And any reason to have Thom Allison sing is a good one.

Also on the plus side, everyone finally got their memories back.

Now, if Jaq was supposed to be in hiding, why was there a signal aimed at the armada which one of The Lady's sharp-eyed minions could pick up? That makes no sense other than as a lame narrative device.

There's a lot to be accomplished in the finale. First is finding some way to beat The Lady and stop her scheme. Then there's the need for resolutions for all the main characters, at least those still alive at the end.

Pree and Turin are being stalked by a hatchling. The team decides to take out the factory first then rescue citizens afterward. Dutch's speech convinces prisoners to take part in a frontal assault on the factory. Zephyr discovers the fog in Old Town is an immunizing agent. Gared tells Khlyen the resistance's attack on the factory is a distraction while they attack The Lady's ship. The attack on the factory begins. Khlyen determines that Gared is lying and takes his earpiece, then finds out the Killjoys are still alive. Khlyen feeds Gared's lie to The Lady. Pree leads the people in the bar in song to keep them calm. Johnny and Dutch plant the homing beacon for the missiles and the resistance falls back. Khlyen finds and smashes the beacon. But it was a diversion to capture Khlyen. Khlyen says he has a plan, but Dutch knocks him out before he explains it. Johnny increases the target zone to wipe out the hatchlings as well. The bombing also wipes out Old Town. The Lady has captured Jaq.

Our review of Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8 reveals how Zephyr plans to find a way to stop The Lady while the Killjoys train the prisoners to stop the terraforming.

The post Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8 Review: Don’t Stop Beweaving appeared first on TV Fanatic.

There's no such thing as a nuclear family in the J.

Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8 was spent examining the question of what family means.

In short, it was no one right combination of people.

Unusual Partnership -- Tall - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

But we did get to see many possibilities in a short 45 minutes.

The best had to be Zephyr returning to Leith and her farming community from which she had escaped years earlier.

Unwanted Homecoming - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

It had always seemed that the Madelaides were a backwards people, and their garb was seemingly a nod to fellow Canadian Margaret Atwood's Handmaids.

That didn't turn out to be the case, however.

Supplying the history of the Madelaides was Fancy, of all people, who explained that they were the quad's foremost natural scientists. Then their knowledge got subverted by corporations, and they renounced science, adopting a natural lifestyle.

Related: Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7 Review: Cherchez La Bitch

It's no wonder a beautiful mind such as Zephyr felt out of place there.

Zephyr recalled seeing a creature such as the hatchling when, as a youngster, she had viewed the Madelaides' holographic tapestry which contained all of the cult's scientific knowledge.

There was just one big problem: her people view Zephyr as a heretic.

Scientific Quest - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

That's because she had burned down the granary to save her people from the tainted grain inside. But she was shunned because she used science to identify this problem.

No wonder Zeph ran away from home.

So, Zephyr's brilliant scheme was that she and Dutch would sneak in and steal the knowledge instead of just asking nicely.

It's not like these farmers would guard their most precious artifact, right?

Of course, it was Zeph's resentful sister Zaia (played by Kelly McCormack's sister Hilary) who caught them trying to break and enter.

Dutch and Zephyr should have been suspicious when the Great Mother was offering tea and cookies rather than some type of punishment to the homecoming fugitive and her friend.

Daenerys Targaryen -- Game of Thrones

Guess she was right when she said the Madelaides were pacifistic but not helpless.

It was great to see Pip again, even if it was only in Zeph's drug-induced fantasy. Him blaming her for his death was what helped her to break free of her hallucination.

That pit was a pretty nasty way to punish non-believers, especially young ones such as Zephyr.

Related: 37 Times Siblings Made Things More Interesting

It made sense that Zeph was the Great Mother's heir apparent, because she was willing to do what was necessary to protect her family, even if it was outside the law.

What the Great Mother didn't realize was that the Madelaides were no long Zephyr's family; the Killjoys now were.

So Zeph didn't hesitate to knock out the Great Mother to gain access to the tapestry or to shoot Zaia to protect Dutch, even though it wouldn't have been long until Dutch would have won that matchup.

Hidden Answers - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

It was sweet to watch the pair back on Lucy, chatting like sisters while sharing a bottle. Aneela's name came up, so it wouldn't be surprising to see her back next episode. Everyone has to gather for the final battle, right?

The Jaqobis brothers found themselves in the middle of an accident waiting to happen as well.

Giving guns to the prison ship's worst prisoners, even if was just for the J equivalent of laser tag, was asking for trouble.

And, naturally, Mace even managed to lift a real gun from that obnoxious guard Durek. So when Durek turned up murdered, Mace was the obvious suspect.

Getting the prisoners to form teams to drill for the upcoming attack on Westerley was diffcult enough.

Having a staff doctor killing off prisoners certainly didn't improve improve an already tense situation.

Happy Nerd - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

You had to love how Calvert managed to silence the threat and win Capture the Flag all in one move. That will teach the doctor to make fun of that training plan.

It was a hoot throughout watching D'avin trying to find a potential relationship for Johnny, first checking out the warden, then Calvert.

It's promising that Johnny seemed to have accepted that D'av and Dutch are going to be together, even if he was fairly juvenile about it.

Besides, it was clear from that opening scene that Johnny is already in love … with Lucy.

It was great to watch the team, along with Reniker, Mace, and Calvert, sit down together for a formal meal, the calm before the storm.

This was a watershed episode for Fancy.

Hidden Depth - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

Up until now, he's been that arrogant asshole and kick-ass fighter. Now he's become a scholar and a gourmet chef as well.

He's much more likeable now. Why did it take so long to give him a back story?

Khlyen had a chance to end this whole The Lady threat but he couldn't pull the trigger, figuratively speaking.

Related: Enjoy unlimited access to thousands of movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video

That was despite Turin urging him at take her out when he got the opening.

The Lady wants to Khlyen's replacement daughter now? How did such an ancient being such develop daddy issues?

Body Failing - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8
(Syfy)

Does this mean The Lady's human host is taking over her psyche? There has been evidence of her having human emotions and this appears to be a continuation of that.

Still, it's hard to believe that Khlyen is lonely enough to go alone with this charade.

More likely, he'll change sides once he discovers that both Dutch and Aneela are still alive, probably using up his last life in the process.

Hopefully, Pree, Gared, Turin, Aneela, and Kendry will gather with the Killjoys next episode to prepare for the battle royale in the finale.

Johnny and D'av split the prisoners into two teams for a game of Capture the Flag to train them, with Calvert and Mace as captains. Mace steals a guard's gun. Dutch and Zeph get caught by Zeph's sister Zaia on Leith. They are brought before the Great Mother. Khlyen attempts to heal The Lady's host body. D'av finds a murdered guard, Durek. The Great Mother drugs Zeph and Dutch. Zeph fantasizes that she's pregnant with Pip's baby. D'av discovers the patients in the psych ward are dead. Mace pulls the gun he stole on Johnny. Dutch and Zeph are in The Pit. Calvert gets the gun away from Mace. The doctor says that equipment malfunctioned and overdosed the prisoners. Then he tranked D'av and Reniker. The Great Mother tells Zeph she was supposed to succeed her.  Zeph uses a nerve pinch on her and takes her medallion which can download the tapestry's secrets. Khlyen can't bring himself to kill The Lady. Johnny snatches the gun from Calvert. Dutch and Zaia fight, but Zeph wings Zaia to end it. The doctor tries to drug Johnny, Calvert, and Mace, but Calvert spears him with the flag. Dutch and Zeph drink and talk about sisters. Everyone sits down to a feast made by Fancy. The Lady wants to become Khlyen's replacement daughter.

Our review of Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7 reveals how much of the resistance and the Killjoys finally get reunited to plan their next step in their war against The Lady.

The gang is largely back together but time is growing ever shorter.

But even better, there was also some rare fun on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7.

Let's face it. During the past couple of seasons, during the Aneela/The Lady storyline, the narrative has been pretty grim and apocalyptic.

Next Step -- Tall - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Brendan Adam-Zwelling/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

With the characters facing the end of the world as they know it, that doesn't leave a lot of room for chuckles.

That isn't to say there isn't repeated laughs from the snark that infiltrates much of the dialogue on Killjoys. The funny is never too far away.

New Target - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Syfy)

But some of the best episodes of Killjoys involve capers, with the team going undercover to complete a mission.

This time, Dutch, D'avin, and Johnny got to play soldiers, with only D'av able to fill that role with any authenticity.

Even better, they were accompanied by another former soldier, Calvert, the assassin from Killjoys Season 5 Episode 4 who has quickly become the show's equivalent of Harley Quinn.

Related: Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6 Review: Three Mutineers

This episode seemingly marks the end of the Killjoys' stay aboard the Herks Supermax prison ship.

After all, they have Lucy back now (or Lucy has them back).

Warden Reniker must be conflicted about their departure.

Analyzing Threat - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Syfy)

They did indirectly eliminate two warring jailhouse bosses. Also, they could investigate in ways her guards never could.

However, Killjoys were bound to be targets, regardless of how they saved the prisoners on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6

Also, their taking away Calvert has got to be addition by subtraction for the warden.

What an ingenious idea to help fund a military base through "militainment!" Is there any way that could be adopted in real life?

The appalled look on D'avin face was delicious.

I could also see how that would be disruptive to military discipline, as Calvert suggested.

Division in the Ranks - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Syfy)

Of course, Calvert, the loose cannon, was the key to them fulfilling their mission, browbeating the guard into letting her and Johnny pass.

And how about that password Johnny used to hack The Lady's ship: I Love Lucy?

At least Johnny was able to find the AWOL Calvert and convince her to stay in the fight with them so that she and her daughter would have a home to which they could return.

Meanwhile, D'av got roped into giving a presentation. He certainly got into that history of Leith, which Dutch illustrated with toys.

It's no wonder they got picked up for suspicious behavior, because they looked out of place. D'av arguing with the know-it-all kid didn't help matters.

Even after all these years, D'av is still outside of the Dutch-Johnny bond. That was clear while watching his expression as Johnny freed Dutch's lock pick.

Unhappy Soldier - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Brendan Adam-Zwelling/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

That certainly led to the philosophical discussion over Johnny's sabbatical and how Dutch and D'av would work as a team, without Johnny there as a buffer.

It wouldn't work nearly as well as the current threesome. They would have to bring Zephyr on board for the intellectual tasks that Johnny now handles.

What Zephyr, Pree, and Turin was doing wasn't undercover (although it was secretive) but it was caper-like as well.

Related: 37 Times Siblings Made Things More Interesting

Pree, the most social of the characters, paired with the introverted Zephyr was a wonderful odd couple.

It shouldn't have been a surprise that Zeph wasn't conditioned for overland trekking.

Throwing Turin, the most antisocial character, into the mix made for enjoyable verbal clashes among the trio.

Looking for Answers - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Ian Watson/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

Here's hoping Turin hasn't sacrificed himself. He may be a dick but he's a well-meaning dick.

Speaking of dicks, it may have taken most of the season but Fancy finally played a key role in an episode.

For those wondering what happened to Fancy since he was captured on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 4, he has just been hanging around.

Fancy had help getting free. Khlyen was the obvious candidate, but no.

And what were those mewling cocoons that he went to investigate? More developed hatchlings than those in the boxes, perhaps? That could be a problem Dutch and company haven't yet considered.

Let's see if I have what happened from there. Lucy, revived by Nucy, rescued Fancy, who saved Zephyr. Then they and Lucy picked up the Killjoys plus Calvert.

Wild Card - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Ian Watson/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

While all that was going on, Pree had taken off to find Gared.

They cleared the air, anyway. Pree kept Gared entranced to protect him. Gared did as Khlyen asked to protect Pree. Both admitted they did the wrong thing for the right reason.

Now, how long will it be before Pree, Gared, and Turin are on board Lucy as well?

Khlyen remains the wild card. The Lady knows that Khlyen's "daughters" are hard to kill, despite the evidence of her own eyes. So Khlyen must suspect one or both are still alive, right?

Back Together Again - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 7
(Brendan Adam-Zwelling/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

Their only purpose this episode was to announce an eight-day deadline before Westerley becomes toxic for humans.

Based on what Johnny and Zeph have determined about the hatchlings, let's hope those don't end up involved in the final battle because there's no way humans can defeat huge, spidery creatures.

Which makes finding and eliminating The Lady's original body all the more important.

Lucy has figured out where that body rests. And thanks to Zeph's "ah-ha" moment, she knows who can defeat The Lady.

We'll have to wait until Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8 to discover that answer.

Our review of Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6 reveals how Dutch, Johnny, and D'avin finally found a way to make their stay in the supermax prison ship work for them.

Thanks to Johnny, the Killjoys finally succeeded in one of their plans.

The trio managed to go from being the hunted to being on top of the Herks Supermax prison ship on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6.

They even managed to fall off The Lady's radar, at least for the time being.

Left Scrambling -- Tall - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6
(Ian Watson/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

Did this episode mark the turning point in their war against The Lady?

Probably so, since there were several developments that improved the chances of the Resistance.

Role Reversal - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6
(Syfy)

Let's start with the prison ship itself, which appears will become the Killjoys' new base of operations. After all, Nucy has taken control of it, so they're in charge, in collaboration with Warden Reniker.

Things looked dark for the Killjoys, especially Dutch and D'avin, in the beginning.

But the tenuous partnership between Sparlow and Corin was bound to fall apart.

Related: Killjoys Season 5 Episode 5 Review: A Bout, A Girl

After all, Corin had already tried to have Sparlow assassinated on Killjoys Season 5 Episode 4 so that's hardly a solid base upon which to build a lasting union.

Dutch was smart enough to chip away at that, agreeing with Corin's scheme to ransom Q'reshis Silas and Evie and offering to impersonate the warden to negotiate with the Q'reshi representative.

Corin's imperiously ordering Sparlow to monitor Dutch gave her a chance to make a side deal with him to take out Corin.

Con Takes Over - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6
(Ian Watson/Killjoys V Productions Limited/SYFY)

Too bad Corin killed Sparlow moments later, robbing Dutch of the more stable potential ally.

D'avin also found a way to prove his value to Corin, offering to track down Evie using the communication device she had given him.

She wasn't grateful to be found, especially since Silas was still alive.

It was natural that Dutch became suspicious when Q'reshi Captain Cole agreed to pay a high ransom for two minor lords. She knew he was stalling but not why.

Fortunately, she also had Johnny, who had teamed up with Reniker, on her side, although she didn't even know he was still alive.

Johnny and the warden made quite a team. She was impressed with how Johnny had built an AI inside the prison while he was impressed by her being a psychiatrist.

Technological Wizard - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6
(Syfy)

Being able to read people has got to be a handy skill when dealing with hundreds of prisoners.

To make the supermax feel like home, Johnny installed Nucy in the mainframe so he could take control.

It was wonderful to see Dutch's face when she heard Nucy's voice, warning her about the bombs planted throughout the ship. It was like an old friend had come home.

Related: 37 Times Siblings Made Things More Interesting

Things came together quickly after that, with Reniker disabling the bombs and Johnny and Dutch rescuing D'av and the hostages.

D'av and Johnny showed Evie and Silas how siblings should behave around each other.

While the Killjoys were taking over the supermax, Khlyen was seeking his own channel into the resistance efforts.

Treacherous Negotiator - Killjoys Season 5 Episode 6
(Syfy)

Khlyen did free Gared from The Lady's brainwashing, but he also manipulating Gared into allowing Khlyen to remotely spy on Pree.

It appeared that Khlyen's heart is in the right place, wanting to protect his Yala (Dutch). However, it isn't clear how much he is concerned with shielding her allies.

The tablet he had Gared plant on Pree let him know about the trouble Dutch and company was facing on the prison ship. So he hijacked The Lady's warship to go rescue her.

The quick-thinking Johnny assessed the resources on hand and staged an explosion to make it appear that the Killjoys had been killed while trying to escape. Then he turned on the cloaking device of the prison ship which few people knew existed.

So what happens now that The Lady has lost the bait that she was employing to draw Jaq out of hiding?

And, although she doesn't know it, that's not the only reason that Jaq isn't coming.

Jaq's mother, Aneela and Delle Seyah Kendry, were doing everything they could to protect him.

They're coming to bring the fight to The Lady, but they've safely encased Jaq inside the Hullen cube.

Don't think he'll stay out of the final battle. The Lady is trying to find him because he's the key to the war's outcome.

It was amusing to watch the mothers deal with the twist that while Aneela remained Hullen, Delle Sayeh has become human again.

I'm afraid Kendry may not survive the upcoming war now that she's human again.

It seemed like Aneela had forgotten everything she had learned about human behavior on Killjoys Season 4, as she was acting all superior, even to Kendry.

But Delle Seyah wasn't going to take attitude from anyone, even her long-lost love. Before long, she had leveled the playing field.

And, like teens everywhere, Jaq was soon embarrassed by Aneela's PDA.

It was amusing that Aneela, one of the most powerful women in the J, was dependent on Jaq and Kendry grifting to get transportation money. Oh, well, they had to fly below The Lady's radar.

Still, Aneela did make her presence known when Aneela was threatened by a cheated native.

Aneela was making up her plans as she goes along, but she did seem to know what The Lady was after.

Will they hook up with the Killjoys on the supermax next episode?

Dutch now has the army she wanted in the prisoners that the Killjoys saved.

And now that Zephyr has figured out how to counteract The Lady's brainwashing chemicals, there will be more soldiers available on Westerley.

The big question remains that while those humans can battle The Lady's troops, who can take her down?
