With Season Two of Invincible Ending, Fans Are Left Wondering if Omni-Man May Get TV's Ultimate Redemption Arc As He Tries To Right His Wrongs

As season two of Prime Video's award-winning show, Invincible, has come to a close, it has set up one of the fan-favorite characters to have the ultimate redemption arc in television.

This article will explain exactly how it does that.

We look forward to reading your comments below!

Omni-Man - Invincible
(Amazon Prime)

Before you continue reading this article, please be warned that it may contain spoilers for future seasons of Invincible.

During the season, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) explores his past and what it means to be a Viltrumite. In the final episode of season one of Invincible, he struggles to kill his son to fulfill his duty to the Viltrumite Empire's plan for Earth.

Invincible, Mark
(Michael Stack)

Because Omni-Man failed in his conquest of Earth, he is a fugitive of the Viltrumite Empire, leading to his capture and imprisonment.

During the same time as Omni-Man is imprisoned, Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) and the Coalition of Planets are looking at ways to get rid of the galactic scourge that is the Viltrum Empire.

This leads Allen back to Invincible (Steven Yeun), as even though he is a Viltrumite, he doesn't believe in conquest

During their meeting, Allen learns that Omni-Man stood up against the empire and even has books that describe all the beings and objects that seriously hurt a Viltrumite.

This leads Allen to try to find Omni-Man so that he can help stop the Viltrum Empire.

(Amazon Prime)

A side note to remember is that Allen, the Alien, can go toe-to-toe with a Viltrumite since he was genetically altered to do so at birth.

During his search, Allen finds the prison ship where Omni-Man is kept, so he feigns defeat to help Omni-Man escape prison. As a result of his betrayal and failure, Omni-Man is slated to be executed.

While in prison, Allen uses his telepathic abilities to talk to Omni-Man and tells him about Invincible, the Coalition of Planets, and why he is there.

This is where the final episode of season two ends, and fans are left to wait.

(Amazon Prime)

This conclusion also sets Omni-Man up for TV's biggest redemption arc, as Omni-Man now needs to fight against the evil empire he was once a part of to save himself, his family, and the whole universe.

How Can Omni-Man Change His Ways?

As Omni-Man no longer believes in the values of the Viltrum Empire, the Coalition of Planets has gained one of the most powerful beings in the cosmos to their cause.

Omni-Man is feared by Earth and many other planets because he is a Viltrumite and a conqueror.

He will need to work on gaining everyone's trust and learn how to adapt to his new human emotions.

Atom Eve v.2 - Invincible
(Amazon Prime)

The sorrow and hurt that Omni-Man has caused will not allow him to have an easy redemption arc.

Even his son, who stood against him, is at war from all sides, both in and out of uniform, due to him being associated with Omni-Man.

This, however, means we may get to see one of the biggest redemption arcs on TV, especially if you have read the comics.

The Invincible comic series has Omni-Man help lead the fight against Viltrumites while also fixing his relations with his human wife, Debbie (Sandra Oh). This is where the comic and TV show Invincible may differ again.

Producers of the show believe a simple redemption arc may not be enough to show the universe, especially Earth, that Omni-Man is now good.

While he can not redeem himself by helping many of the victims of his brutality, as they are dead and there is nothing he can do, he can still spend his time trying to help the survivors against his kind.

Omni-Man's redemption arc can also be complex as he did spend 20 years living with humans, who in the comic lore are the closest to Viltrumites but without superhuman abilities.

By spending time on Earth, Omni-Man's emotions are changed by his wife, and he learns he does have deep feelings he doesn't understand.

How Close Will Producers Follow The Comic Story?

The question for Omni-Man's ultimate redemption arc is whether people, especially his family should truly forgive him.

Omni-Man's Wife, Debbi, may find it hard to truly forgive him, especially since he stated how little he thought of her when Omni-Man brutally assaulted Invincible in Season One.

Many people will accept that, but he may never truly be forgiven for the brutal and evil actions he had for Earth.

You can also say that Omni-Man will never forgive himself, as during the comics, he first justifies his brutality and genocidal tendencies, but later on, he realizes that they are wrong.

Removing the Mask

He may need to accept that what he did was wrong and that nothing can change it.

He may never find personal absolution for his actions, but he can still try to help the universe against the Viltrumite Empire as a way of penance for his past actions.

So whether or not the producers of Amazon's Invincible show follow the comic to a fault or not, Omni-Man's redemption will be TV's biggest as the scale of his destruction and the length he needs to go to redeem himself is going to be a long road for him to travel.

Do you think that Omni-Man will get a redemption arc, and does he even deserve one?

Genre TV is always hit or miss, but that doesn't stop them from being made! Check out our list of the best (and worst!) of this year's Super/Sci-Fi series!

2021 brought us a lot of TV, including many new entries for Science Fiction and Fantasy lovers.

There was plenty of new high-profile Fantasy/Sci-Fi series this year (Wheel of Time, Foundation) that were a pleasure to watch.

On the other side of things, some returning series (Rick and Morty, The Walking Dead) continued their reign of popularity.

Collage for Super Sci-Fi Slide
(Syfy/CW/CW)

Check out the list to see if your favorites (or least favorites!) made it!

As always, please share with us in the comments below what you think should've made the list!

School Time - Chucky
(USA Network)

Best – Chucky

Chucky doesn't disappoint, invoking cheer and disgust (only the best kind of disgust!).

Bringing back characters from the film series is a load of treats for fans, and the odd use of Chucky actor Brad Dourif's real-life daughter is brave and creative.

It's gore-alicious!

Under The Lights - Roswell, New Mexico Season 3 Episode 13
(John Golden Britt/The CW)

Best – Roswell, New Mexico

After two seasons that were uneven at best, Roswell came back for season 3 and was on top of their game.

They gave us the series' best villain to date, the deliciously evil Mr. Jones, played to perfection by Nathan Dean, who juggled two very different roles all season long and did it effortlessly.

The season had more sci-fi and more significant action pieces but kept the romance and other little things that fans have come to know and love.

It wasn't a flawless season, but it was their best season to date, and it has us and fans alike excited to see what's next.

Intergalactic
(Peacock/Syfy/Sky)

Worst – Intergalactic

We wanted to love it, but, man, did it get tedious after, say, episode 1.

It held promise and had some crazy characters, but the drama didn't intrigue.

We hoped for something great, but to say that Intergalactic was a disappointment is an understatement.

Midnight Mass
((c) Courtesy of Netflix 2021)

Best – Midnight Mass

Midnight Mass brought us some tremendous religious horror, a genre that intrigues and scares.

From the folks who brought us The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor comes Midnight Mass, a genuinely malicious program.

Midnight Mass, though, is more unique than its predecessors and — for those who are adversely affected by frightening TV — more nightmarish.

The Winx Crew
(Netflix)

Worst – Fate: The Winx Saga

We will never get our fill of adaptations. Still, this one disappointed right out of the gate with its questionable casting that had social media in an uproar and the Riverdale-esque dark, gritty, and more adult take on a fun, upbeat series.

Fate: The Winx Saga is bad because it's boring and unoriginal. The series has way too many characters, barely develops any of them outside of Bloom, and the initial storyline wasn't captivating.

It was a quick binge, but you forgot everything that you watched by the time it was over. It doesn't give you any reason to tune back in, which speaks volumes.

Worse yet, the series takes itself too seriously, which makes all the events you're watching transpire laughable more than intriguing.

Suped Up - Superman & Lois Season 1 Episode 15
(Bettina Strauss/The CW)

Best – Superman & Lois

The CW had a larger budget with this Arrowverse show, and it showed.

With better cinematography and special effects, this version of Superman almost felt like movie quality.

The fight scenes were epic, and we delved into the Kent family dynamics between Clark, Lois, and the boys as Jordan tried to learn how to handle his powers.

Jupiter's Legacy
((c) Courtesy of Netflix 2021)

Worst – Jupiter's Legacy

It's too bad the show's narrative didn't match the budget and star-studded cast.

For a series about superheroes in this day and age when they're a dime a dozen, Jupiter's Legacy failed to deliver anything of substance, quality, or interest.

They had a lot of action sequences, but overall, the dark take on the plight of superherodom and conflict between different generations wasn't the least bit compelling.

And the glacial pacing made an eight-episode season feel like a whole 22 episode order, but sadly, not in a good way. Everyone looked pretty in their costumes, though.

Tall - Hologram Rick and Morty - Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 1
(Screenshot from “Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat”/Adult Swim)

Best – Rick & Morty

Dan Harmon and Mark Roiland's jaw-dropping, eye-popping, dimension-hopping fever dream hit new levels of insanity with its fifth season.

Zany, frantic, and shockingly deep, Rick and Morty are a psychedelic peek into a universe full of magic, horror, and possibilities.

Don't overthink about it. Just try to keep up and enjoy the ride!

We're always so excited to see what a new season will bring and cannot wait for the future!

Day of the Dead Syfy
(Syfy/Michael Stack)

Worst – Day of the Dead

A horrible horror entry that dares to use the same name as George A. Romero's brilliant 1985 zombie flick, we couldn't get past episode 1.

This show contains everything that screams cheesy Syfy original movie (cheesy acting, worse effects), just made into a depressing full-length series.

Syfy always cancels their great shows to spit out horrible shows like this (*coughs* Wynonna Earp *coughs*), and we hope that this show sees an early death.

Invincible, Mark
(Michael Stack)

Best – Invincible

Invincible took your typical superhero story and spun it on its head. It's gory, grotesque, violent head — and we loved it.

Invincible managed to make an animated superhero show one of the most heartfelt stories of the year while also giving us incredible action.

Creating a unique superhero show in an already oversaturated genre is an impressive feat in itself.

Back in the Donovan House - SurrealEstate Season 1 Episode 10
(Derm Carberry/Blue Ice Pictures/SYFY)

Worst – SurrealEstate

Canadian horror/sci-fi series is hit or miss. Wynonna Earp was a hit, and we wanted Tim Rozon and Susan Levy's latest joint effort to hit the right marks.

While there were building blocks to do things right and a few episodes that tickled the funny bone, the storylines weren't consistent in facts or entertainment value, and it was something to make fun of instead of delight in.

SurrealEstate could have been so much better, but sadly, it dropped the ball.

A Discovery of Witches
(BBC/Michael Stack)

Best – A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches (based on the book series of the same name) never ceases to impress.

Season two saw some amazing twists that we didn't expect, combined with the growth of the character we love.

We are so excited for the third and final season!

Charles Faces an Unfriendly Bunch - Chapelwaite Season 1 Episode 2
(Chris Reardon/Epix)

Worst – Chapelwaite

Adrien Brody and Emily Hampshire toplining one of the worst shows of the year?

It seems so, and you shouldn't be surprised since this was yet another Stephen King adaptation that fell flat.

At times seeming to tell multiple different stories — grieving family, an ambitious woman feeding off of newcomers, vampires, immigration/racism in small-town America — it meandered thoughtlessly and never got the heart racing. Too bad.

Sun with Gun Black Summer Season 2
((c) Courtesy of Netflix 2021)

Best – Black Summer

The best zombie series you aren't watching is Black Summer, and season two improved on the most entertaining season one.

The second season, set during the apocalypse's first winter, shows what it's like living with it for half a year — and the emotions behind losing people on the way.

It's emotionally powerful and contains some of the best zombie scenes of the year.

We love the performances of all of the actors and hope that we get to see them for at least one more season.

The Expanse Holden and Avasarala
(Amazon Studios)

Best – The Expanse

With the second half of season five and two-thirds of the final season airing in 2021, The Expanse made waves with its 6th season. Initially, on SYFY, Amazon picked up the space-opera for seasons 4-6, and the series has taken off (pun intended).

The Expanse is the perfect space opera, and we cannot wait for the series finale in 2022 (even though the last thing we want is for this show to end).

Led by an incredible cast that has been severely overlooked at significant awards, The Expanse will be the Science Fiction Series to remember from this decade.

The most impressive of the latter half of the fifth season came from Dominique Tipper's stellar portrayal of Naomi Nagata's fight for her life. Brilliant storytelling combined with her outstanding performance made for an incredible season.

Naomi Nagata, Trapped - The Expanse
(Amazon Studios)

Well, Fanatics, did one of your shows make our list?

Are there any that you'd add? Sound off in the comments below!

There's so much more genre TV out there right now, and we can't wait to see where they go from here!

We love a good plot twist, and there was a fair share of great ones during 2021 on Television. Sadly, there was also a fair share of horrible ones. Read on.

Plot twists are at the core of every modern drama, but they can't all be a great Shyamalan twist.

2021 held our attention with many plot twists, but some were better than others (and some were worse).

The staff here at TV Fanatic have gathered the best (and worst) plot twists from this year!

Can you think of any others that should've made our list?

Check out our list below and let us know!

Attending an Event - This Is Us Season 5 Episode 12
(NBC / This Is Us)

Best – This is Us – Kate and Philip?

That Kate and Toby end up divorcing some time in the near future on This Is Us wasn't the biggest shock.

Although the couple is currently in sync, they've hit several rough patches over the years. But the moment that made our jaws collectively drop from that season 5 finale flash-forward was realizing that Kate will marry Philip!

We still can't quite wrap our heads around how Kate goes from being married to Toby and raising their two children to marrying the guy who started off despising her, but we'll be glued to our screens watching This Is Us Season 6 to find out.

Things Come Together - Queen Sugar Season 6 Episode 10
(Skip Bolen © 2021 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. / Courtesy of OWN)

Worst – Queen Sugar – Too many twists?

We were floored when Nova found out that Calvin was not only one of the cops that beat Andre all those years ago; he was the one who gave the blow that broke Andre's back, leaving him paralyzed.

As Calvin finally came clean with his fianceé, his regret was far overshadowed by Nova's devastation. And then, in another twist we didn't see coming, Calvin turned himself into Internal Affairs. But this is where one of the best plot twists turns into one of the worst.

What happened next? It's been an entire season since Calvin walked out Nova's door in cuffs, but besides Nova admitting that they're over as a couple, we have no idea what's happened to Calvin!

Is he free and living elsewhere or sitting in prison? Were the other officers involved held accountable? With only one more season of Queen Sugar left, we're hoping the series will give us some answers before it's done.

Torn Gavin - La Brea Season 1 Episode 5

Best – La Brea – Sinkhole-ception!

La Brea pulled off a massive twist by showing that Gavin Harris was the young boy in the sinkhole.

He needed to go through the 1988 sinkhole, or Gavin would never meet Eve, and Josh and Izzy would disappear from this world

The writers for La Brea came up with a brilliant first season with many twists, but this one blew our minds!

Shell-shocked - In The Dark Season 3 Episode 13
(The CW (Screenshot))

Worst – In the Dark – Best Friend For Never?

While the second season of In the Dark, which also fell in 2021, was chocked full of great twists and turns, the third season's finale was frustrating.

After spending roughly the entire season with Murphy searching for her best friend, wondering if she was alive or dead (narrowly missing her), Murphy found Jess working at a pet store.

Jess knew Murphy was looking for her the whole time, but she willingly kept her whereabouts a secret to get space and cut ties with her toxic best friend.

It was her chance at freedom from Murphy. The most enraging storyline made the entire season feel like a waste of time.

Talking About Grief - Mare of Easttown Season 1 Episode 6
(Michele K. Short/HBO)

Best – Mare of Eastown – Mare's Mistake

There were so many twists and turns in this short series that it's challenging to choose the best one.

When Mare realized where the murder weapon came from and that her actions had inadvertently covered it up — that was the twist that left us gasping.

Watching Mare, stoic yet devastated, deliver the horrifying news sent us spiraling as much as the characters whose lives would forever be changed.

Wyatt Out & About - Roswell, New Mexico Season 3 Episode 3
(John Golden Britt/The CW)

Worst – Rosewell, New Mexico – Offensive Story Arc!

For an inexplicable reason that we're still scratching our heads about, someone thought it was a bright idea for a Wyatt Long redemption story arc in season three. As one of the resident town racists, no one was interested in this character becoming a better person or even taking any screentime away from an already bloated cast.

However, Rosa injected him with a memory wiper that somehow removed his racist inclinations, and we found out that Wyatt was a nice person and a good guy.

On top of that, they teased a romance between Wyatt and Rosa even though he tried to kill her multiple times, technically killed her sister, beat up her father, and racially harassed people for the better part of a decade with his historically racist family and friends.

It wasn't a worthwhile plot twist, and it was an offensive story arc.

Omni-Man Bloody
(Amazon Studios)

Best – Invincible – OMG (Oh My, Gore)!

If you had read the comic, you probably saw the twist coming. If you didn't read the comic, shocking visuals danced across your screen at the end of the FIRST episode.

Mark's (Invincible's) dad, Omni-Man, is revealed to be a villain and kills the entire Guardians of the Globe team. He didn't kill them quickly, no no, there were squished eyes, tons of blood, and (detailed) mushed faces.

The two-faced side of Omni-Man was a huge twist, but the insane level of gore shocked viewers everywhere.

Buck on the Scene - 9-1-1 Season 4 Episode 9
(FOX)

Worst – 911 – Donor Baby?

The build-up was intense, and the payoff was a disappointment.

Maddie and her parents kept a secret from Buck for an extended period, and they teased us through most of season 4 with what it could be.

It ended up being that Buck was conceived to be a donor baby for his now-deceased older brother (which he didn't even know about), which not only was unexpected but a disappointment.

Getting His Bearings - Succession Season 3 Episode 1
(Graeme Hunter/HBO)

Best – Succession – Sell!

Logan sells Waystar/Royco after enlisting his ex-wife and the mother of his three youngest children to cut their input.

Their ace in the hole was that they needed a supermajority, and Logan had them all fooled. Shiv and Roman were dumbstruck, but Roman took it the hardest.

That's hard to fathom, given how Logan treats all of them. Kendall, though, was finally vindicated in trying to turn the tables on his old man. If only he'd had sibling support earlier, there would have been a different outcome.

Mel and Jack are Shocked - Virgin River
(Netflix)

Worst – Virgin River – Trouble in Babydise

It was a rough season of Virgin River for Mel and Jack. It felt like we barely got a chance to enjoy these two in their happy romance before they faced more issues that could, and did, rip them apart.

Mel wanted to have a baby, but Jack wasn't ready for it since he was already expecting twins and fighting for rights against Charmaine. But after some strains in their relationship, Jack and Mel have reunited again, a solid pairing, and ready for the next stage of their relationship.

Unfortunately, Jack's excitement over Mel's pregnancy was short-lived when she followed it up by saying that she was unsure if the baby was his or not.

Mel is pregnant, but the baby could be Jack's or her late husband, Mark's child, and that's how they left the season. Oof!

Dark Angel Waverly - Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 11
(SYFY/Michael Stack)

Best – Wynonna Earp – Sister, Please!

The best twist in Earp's final season happened to be a combination of two twists.

Twist one: the return of Jolene. Possibly one of the most powerful villains to appear on the show, Jolene never means something good will happen.

Her master plan, however, is the darkest twist of all: Dark Angel Waverly. We knew Waverly was part angel, but we did not know she had a Dark Angel counterpart living inside her.

Jeremy call - Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 11
(Michelle Faye/Wynonna Earp Productions, Inc./SYFY)

When Jolene awoke the Dark Angel, Waverly's entire personality was wiped, leaving everyone involved stunned.

Did your favorite (or least favorite) make the list?

Let us know, and if you've thought of any others, let us know that too!
