Instinct will not return for a third season CBS.

The network has axed the low-rated procedural drama after just two seasons.

Series creator Michael Rauch took to Twitter to reveal the sad news on Saturday.

In doing so, he also revealed that two episodes will be airing tonight and that the series finale would air Sunday, August 25.

This caused much confusion amongst fans because many thought that the show had produced 13 episodes for Instinct Season 2.

However, it has since been revealed that there were only 11 made for the second — and now final season.

"I’m very sad to relay the news that @instinctcbs won’t be renewed for a 3rd season," Rauch shared on Twitter.

"We will double up this Sunday and our season/series finale will be Aug 25."

"Endless thanks to @Alancumming & @bojnovak for making Dylan & Lizzie more everything than I could have ever hoped & thanks to our incredible crew, cast, writers, producers & all who helped make our show, with respect, talent & kindness."

"And a giant thank you to our diehard fans for your love, loyalty & excellent taste (is it too soon to ask for a reboot?)

Cumming reacted to the news via Instagram.

"So the word is out. [Instinct] will not be returning for a third season… I'm sorry I won't be getting to play with [co-star Bojana Novakovic] and the rest of the amazing cast and crew again… I'm grateful for two seasons of fun and gore," he said.

"I'm also proud to have played the first [ever] leading character in a US network drama who is gay," Cumming continued in the post.

"Yes, really. Because of [Instinct] millions of people will have seen a same sex marriage portrayed for the first time and I hope we changed and opened some minds in the process."

His co-star Bojana Novakovic said the following of the decision to end the series after just two seasons.

"WELL THIS SUCKS BALLS. But when one door closes another… actually fuck that," she said via Twitter.

"This sucks balls. Love to all our fans and the most incredible cast and crew. Thank you all for an incredible two years."

Despite launching with high ratings (almost 12 million in Live+7), the series suffered erosion throughout its first season, and by the time the second season launched, the numbers were much lower.

Season 2 is thus far averaging just 3.4 million total viewers and a weak 0.3 rating in live + same-day results.

The show joins fellow summer drama The Code on the network's list of cancellations.

Elementary's final season has a premiere date!

CBS confirmed some summer premieres on Tuesday, and the last hurrah for Sherlock and Joan will get underway in May.

The 13-episode season will launch Thursday, May 23 at 10/9c one week after S.W.A.T. Season 2 comes to an end.

Little is actually known about Elementary Season 7. If you watch Elementary online, you know that Elementary Season 6 closed with Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) left the U.S. behind in favor of starting new roles in the United Kingdom.

Whether the pair will be able to return to U.S. soil, we don't know, but the final episodes will surely chronicle that.

It will make for a different series if they remain away from the U.S. for the entirety of the seventh season, but switching things up is sometimes for the best, right?

The final season will air throughout the summer.

CBS has also scheduled Instinct Season 2, and it is getting a later launch. It will unspool its second season from Sunday, June 16 at 9 pm.

Instinct was not a heavy hitter in the ratings for its first season, averaging 6.7 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demo.

The Alan Cumming-fronted drama was a surprising renewal for sure, but moving it to the summer might be a good move.

Ratings are lower across the board during those months, so it could perform well enough to stick around for a third season and beyond. Tim will tell.

The network has also scheduled Blood & Treasure, a brand new adventure series.

It stars Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas as a brilliant antiquities expert and a cunning art thief, respectively, who team up to catch a ruthless terrorist who funds his attacks through stolen treasure.

As they crisscross the globe hunting their target, they unexpectedly find themselves at the center of a 2,000-year-old battle for the cradle of civilization.

The series is getting a solid launching pad behind the season finale of NCIS on Tuesday, May 21.

The show will air its first two episodes that night before moving to the 10 pm slot for the rest of its run.

CBS is making some big changes as it heads into the 2018-2019 season.

The network today announced its fall schedule, and while there is stability on some nights, there are big changes on others.

With Kevin Can Wait and Superior Donuts canceled, Mondays will go back to having a one-hour comedy block, followed by two dramas.

In fact, the Monday night line-up will be dominated by two hours of new shows. The Neighborhood has been granted the lead-off spot, leading into Happy Together.

The highly anticipated Magnum P.I. reboot has landed the 9/8c hour, and that will lead into Bull, which will replace Scorpion. Yes, that's a big shake-up, but will it be enough to compete with the other networks?

Quite possibly.

The only change on Tuesdays is in the 9/8c hour. FBI will move in since Bull is on the move.

Wednesdays are unchanged with Survivor, SEAL Team and Criminal Minds keeping their slots from the 2017-18 season. All three turned in respectable ratings, so they were widely expected to stick together.

The only change on Thursdays is that the Murphy Brown revival will take over for Life in Pieces, which returns at midseason. The biggest surprise is that Murphy Brown didn't get the 9/8c slot.

However, Mom has been rating well in that slot over the last few years, so the network is likely looking to see if Murphy Brown can give S.W.A.T. a boost.

Fridays are unchanged, and that makes sense when you consider the stability of the shows throughout the season.

On Sundays, God Friended Me will fill in for Instinct, which is expected to return at midseason.

“When you have a primetime lineup that won the season while competing against the Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics on another network, you look to keep your core schedule mostly intact, while making strategic moves to help grow nights,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment.

“We’ve maintained stability across winning nights while adding some important new pieces to our Monday night lineup.

"And, next year, we’re positioned to build on this success with the addition of these exciting new shows and primetime events, such as ‘The AFC Championship Game,’ ‘Super Bowl LIII,’ ‘The Grammy Awards’ and the NCAA Final Four.”
