The rise of home video amounted to another assault on the broadcast fortress.

And not long after digital antennae dealt a death blow to rabbit ears a new and formidable threat emerged from the strange new frontier of the internet.

We’re talking, of course, about streaming.

A Growing Threat

For decades, the disintegration of network television was as gradual as climate change.

But over the course of the past 15 years, it’s gained the speed and momentum of a biblical flash flood.

It started, of course, with Netflix — a little startup that began by mailing DVDs to customers who indicated their preferences through the company’s website.

(If you ever want to feel truly ancient, try to convince a younger relative that you used to receive Netflix through the mail.)

In time, the site where subscribers ordered their DVDs began to offer digital content.

At first, this was almost an afterthought — something to watch while you wait for your next disk in the mail.

In its earliest days, the streaming site featured just 1,000 movies, a scant offering compared to the 70,000 DVDs customers could order by mail.

Little did we know that this new business model would quickly change the world.

A New Challenger Emerges

In 2011, Netflix dipped its toes into the waters of original programming with the political thriller House of Cards.

Lilyhammer and Orange Is the New Black followed shortly thereafter and amounted to the first shots fired in what would later be known as the streaming wars.

In 2012, Hulu entered the fray with its first scripted series, Battleground.

Before the decade was out, the number of streaming services available to Americans would balloon from two to more than 90.

That rapid expansion has continued apace, with Forbes reporting in January that the number has reached 200.

And many of those services are shelling out big bucks for top talent and oodles of original programming — a business model that would have been unfathomable for a web-based media brand just a few years earlier.

Now, we’re on the brink of another development that once seemed impossible:

The TV giants of yesteryear are facing extinction as their hunting ground has been taken over by hundreds of smaller challengers.

The Beginning of the End

In 2022, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently warned that “linear TV and satellite is marching towards a great precipice, and it will be pushed off … I can’t tell you when, but it goes away.”

Now, the crash he predicted seems to be unfolding before our eyes.

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. endured a $9 billion impairment charge related to the performance of its linear cable networks, the latest in a string of humiliations for CEO David Zaslav.

“The cable networks just are in this horrific, perennial, never-ending decline,” Bank of America securities expert Jessica Reif Ehrlich recently told The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s been more abysmal, I think, than almost anybody expected, even just two years ago, when the handwriting was on the wall, we still thought it would be at a slower pace than it’s actually been.”

Cable execs anticipated the mini-apocalypse that would come with the increased popularity of cord-cutting.

But apparently, the top dogs believed they would be able to weather that storm, in part by adopting an “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” strategy.

What many didn’t see coming was the rise of ad-supported streaming services.

Now, the network and cable bigwigs are forced to contend with a “double whammy” situation:

They’re losing both viewers and advertisers to streaming services.

And with those two holes in the boat, it seems unlikely that the good ship linear TV will be able to remain afloat for much longer.

The THR piece warns that cable channels might soon go the way of newspapers:

They’ll become targets for opportunistic investment funds until they simply go out of business entirely.

Broadcast networks might be able to ride out the storm simply because they’re free and they’ve had an much easier time finding a home in the streaming world thanks to services like Hulu Live.

Oh, and millions of Americans watch them out of habit, something that cannot be said of the million niche basic cable channels that popped over the past 20 years.

But even your classic ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox probably won’t survive in their current forms.

They’ll begin to look more and more like streaming services, favoring shorter seasons, longer hiatuses, and a more cancel-happy approach to programming.

In short, it’s a bad time to be an aspiring showrunner — or simply a fan of quality television.

It wasn’t all that long ago that it looked as though prestige TV had saved the day and elevated television from a media platform to a true art form.

But that era was short-lived, and today’s hyper-competitive environment isn’t exactly fertile ground for creative experimentation.

Ironically, the proliferation of streaming services may soon leave us with fewer options than we had in the days of three networks and television with big old knobs on the front.

Considering that they have returned multiple times, including Mac and Dennis’s monthly dinner, and that it is always depicted as busy, as seen during the infamous The Gang Dines Out episode, this Italian establishment must be a top Philly restaurant.

Bob’s Burgers — Bob’s Burgers

Despite the lack of business and the fact the family isn’t rolling in money, there is ample proof that Bob’s Burgers serves some tasty patties, making it one of the best TV restaurants.

Not to mention the creative names given to the Burgers of the Day.

Bob’s business rival and enemy, Jimmy, even admits they are scrumptious when he recommends Bob to the yacht club, knowing the burgers will leave their mark.

Warren is stunned by the lack of success, given the amazing flavor of Bob’s burgers, and he wants desperately to invest in the restaurant.

The lack of customers in the show represents the establishment’s atmosphere and possibly the chaos brought by Tina, Louise, and Gene, definitely not the yumminess served.

With daily special names like Baby You Can Chive My Car, Poblano Picasso, A Good Manchego is Hard to Find, The Final Kraut-Down, and The Judy Garlic, how could one not want to eat there every day?

The Peach Pit — Beverly Hills, 90210

The Peach Pit is one of the best TV show diners and a local hangout spot for the Beverly Hills, 90210 crew.

It is owned by Nat Bussichio (Joe E. Tata), and Brandon Walsh and Dixon Wilson work there.

Classic diner menu items can be unique when they are done right.

They aren’t known for being fancy, or all that different from any other diner, but the ingredients, flavor combinations, and cooking styles are what set each apart.

The mega burger is the diner’s famed menu item.

Still, there are plenty of other mouth-watering items, like the mint chocolate marshmallow jelly bean extravaganza sundae and the tuna melt.

Then, of course, there is the peach pie, fries, and shakes.

Krusty Krabs — SpongeBob SquarePants

The Krusty Krab, a SpongeBob SquarePants mainstay, is famous for its krabby patty, and the Bikini Bottom fast food restaurant has always caught fans’ attention.

While the origin of the patty’s top-secret recipe may be a little murky, one thing is definite — people are willing to overpay to eat it.

If a restaurant was trying to sell a burger for $20 in the real world, it better be dipped in gold.

However, no one seems to mind paying the absurdly high price that Mr. Krabs, the money-hungry owner, has set.

The other menu items, such as coral bits, kelp rings, salty sauce, the salty sea dog, and golden loaf, also keep customers returning for more.

It is the best restaurant under the sea, and the customers who keep it afloat clearly can’t get enough of those tasty patties!

Los Pollos Hermanos — Breaking Bad

The Breaking Bad Los Pollos Hermanos fast-food chicken chain may have a not-so-by-the-books way of doing business.

Still, its signature pollo is highly praised by numerous characters, and, just like Gus Fring’s other businesses, he clearly took his chicken game seriously.

The finest ingredients are brought together with love and care and then slow-cooked to perfection, which can tickle just about anyone’s taste buds.

The restaurant oozes confidence.

Employees answer the phone with its motto: Los Pollos Hermanos, where something delicious is always cooking, and it boasts that perfection is noticeable with only one taste.

Alamo Freeze — Friday Night Lights

Landry and Julie even spend their last night there, showcasing how vital that soft serve is to the locals.

Freddy’s BBQ — House of Cards

Frank Underwood’s restaurant of choice is Freddy’s BBQ Joint, and succulent ribs are its specialty.

So much so that the House of Cards protagonist has them delivered to his office whenever he gets a hankering.

It is the place Freddy goes to escape Capitol Hill politics and indulge in slow-cooked, tantalizing pork.

This hole-in-the-wall is one of the best TV restaurants because it is just that!

There are no frills, no delicate herbs placed on the plate with tweezers, just good old-school soul food-style BBQ, bringing in DC big wigs.

Mr. Cluck’s Chicken Shack — Lost

The famous Lost fast food chain, Mr. Cluck’s Chicken Shack, looks like some of the juiciest chicken seen on screen.

Of course, the Los Pollos versus Mr. Cluck’s debate is an ongoing war between these TV restaurants, and the whole getting hit by a meteor (meteorite?) thing doesn’t help Mr. Cluck’s.

Neither does Gus’s attention to cleanliness and high standards.

However, there is no denying that some of the best fried chicken comes from eateries that, like their chicken, are just greasy. But that is OKAY.

It’s about what comes out of that fryer and into your mouth, but it’s not always about whether you can eat off the restaurant’s floor.

Plus, Hugo has a real passion when it comes to chicken, and if he eats buckets of it, then it must be delectable.

Nuovo Vesuvio — The Sopranos

Just the fact that Nuovo Vesuvio has a person specifically hired to make mozzarella is all the information needed to understand why it’s one of the best imaginary eateries.

Not to mention the recurrence of the Italian joint on the series, and there is no way The Sopranos are eating at a less-than-par restaurant.

Tony and many other characters have numerous lunches, dinners, parties, and meetings at Nuovo Vesuvio.

The versatility speaks for itself the famous cherry pie is the perfect dessert to end a memorable meal.

Pop’s Diner — Riverdale

Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe, also known as Pop’s Diner, on Riverdale is another example of how TV show diners can make fans want to jump through their screens and into a seat.

Regardless of the reason behind needing one the characters always turn to them in good and bad times.

The milkshakes that are served from this on-screen eatery are what drives business and keeps the locals coming back for more. Archie also recommends the onion rings, and they do look amazing.

And we can’t forget when Jughead takes Doiley’s sundae while questioning him and eats it.

If you've ever had a favorite show hit by scandal, you might have noticed it affected how you watched the show — for better or worse.

Typically, when a new season of Queer Eye drops on Netflix, I'm on it like Antoni Porowski on the weird food in someone's fridge. But when Season 8 premiered on Netflix on January 24, the urge to binge was missing. So was the spark.

Controversial TV Takes That Are Sure to Spark Debate

Season 8 felt awkward and forced as I plodded through the short six-episode season. For the first time in my Queer Eye-watching history, which dates back to the release date of Season 1, I didn't shed a single tear. I felt distracted.

In November of last year, we first learned that Bobby Berk, interior design expert, would not be returning after Season 8 wrapped.

As it does, the internet went wild with speculation. Some eagle-eyed fans noticed Bobby had unfollowed fellow castmate Tan France on Instagram, and the rumor mill ran with it. Was this why Bobby was leaving?

With the rumors of a rift swirling in the back of my mind, I scrutinized every interaction between the two.

Instead of watching the heroes' lives, hair, houses, and wardrobes transform before my eyes, I was laser-focused on the cast interactions.

Was that a "look" he just gave him, or am I imagining things? Does there seem to be a lot less Bobby this season, or has he always been in the background more than his costars?

And where do the loyalties of the rest of the cast lie?

The behind-the-scenes drama was turning this show from wholesome to tiresome. I wanted to care about Season 8's heroes, but I was constantly taken out of the moment.

It seems that knowing the cast weren't best friends forever and ever was coloring how I saw the interactions not only between the cast members but with the heroes as well.

I had to wonder: does this happen to other shows with behind-the-scenes misadventures?

It depends. The drama only ruined Queer Eye because I didn't expect this kind of behavior from the seemingly sweet and supportive cast.

What about other shows with issues behind the scenes?

When Drama Builds Anticipation

Let's take a look at Yellowstone, the antithesis of Queer Eye. Where Queer Eye's cast is lovable, helpful, and caring, the characters on Yellowstone are conniving, angry, and flawed.

Is Event TV a Thing of the Past? What Does That Mean for Our Culture?

These shows are night and day, but they share one common thread — they've both had a lot of behind-the-scenes drama in the news recently.

The difference is that the issues circling Queer Eye dampened interest in the show, while the problems behind Yellowstone have only fueled impatience for the last half of Yellowstone Season 5.

In February of last year, rumors surfaced that Kevin Costner would not return for the remaining episodes of Season 5 due to creative differences and pay issues.

Later in the year, Taylor Sheridon, the show's creator, sued Yellowstone star Cole Hauser's coffee company for trademark infringement.

This drama is a whole lot uglier than Bobby quietly unfollowing Tan on Instagram, and yet it doesn't make me want to drop Yellowstone from my watchlist.

Perhaps it's because I expect drama from Yellowstone. The show has built a world where underhanded deeds are the norm, and it's not abnormal to see people breaking promises or calling each other out on their issues.

The first half of Season 5 saw one character murdering his biological father — the real-life creative differences and legal issues plaguing the cast are mild by comparison.

The Drama Should Enhance the Moment, Not Ruin It

It all comes down to the style of the show and the type of behind-the-scenes drama.

Widely acknowledged rumors of cast infighting and bullying on the set of Desperate Housewives didn't harm its watchability because the characters also bullied one another.

However, rumors of bullying on Glee made it hard to support the characters we were supposed to root for.

The feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker made Samantha Jones' cameo in Season 2 of And Just Like That… widely anticipated, while Chevy Chase's feuds with his Community costars made later seasons of the show hard to watch.

The infamous "Scandoval" of Vanderpump Rules Season 10 delivered a massive bump in viewership for Season 11.

We're talking millions of new viewers. For a drama-centric reality show, scandal was not only encouraged; it was expected.

When Scandal Goes Too Far

Sometimes, beloved shows face a scandal so grave the only solution is to axe a character entirely to avoid a ratings loss.

When Isaiah Washington used a homophobic slur against a costar in the earlier days of Grey's Anatomy, it was necessary to write Washington out of the show or face backlash.

Similarly, serious abuse allegations against Kevin Spacey meant he needed to be fired from House of Cards to keep viewers interested.

When people put in long days together on a TV set, there's bound to be a little drama. If we're watching because we crave the tension, behind-the-scenes shenanigans can help us get excited about a show.

But when we expect more from our TV shows, the drama can lead to disappointment.

Some ships fizzled out the longer their show was on, and others never had a spark to begin with. 

We created a list below of 41 TV couples with absolutely no chemistry! 

1. Jackson and Maggie – Grey's Anatomy

Most fans can collectively agree that the relationship between Jackson and Maggie is a dull one. Or maybe it seems dull in comparison to what Jackson and April could have had. 

2. Tom and Ann – Parks and Recreation

You know there's no chemistry when their first onscreen kiss made viewers physically cringe. What was the point of throwing Tom and Ann together, again?

3. Max and Georgia – New Amsterdam

Max's devotion to his wife is sweet, but that's the only thing we can appreciate about their marriage. It doesn't make us feel anything other than boredom. 

4. Edison and Olivia – Scandal

Most Scandal viewers weren't huge fans of Edison. Whether or not our dislike of the character played into how we view their chemistry is still uncertain, but there never seemed to be any magnetism in the relationship. 

5. Rachel and Sam – Glee

It felt unnecessary for Glee to even go here in the first place. Rachel had recently recovered from Finn's death, and she was obviously going to rekindle things with Jesse. It was as if Rachel had to give it a shot with everyone before the show's end.

6. Scott and Kira – Teen Wolf

Scott and Kira started the series incredibly cute, but as the show went on the writers seemed to stop caring about her.

Her whimsical personality disappeared, and she became a bland character who faded into the background. Kira's relationship with Scott suffered as a result, and their dynamic fell completely flat. 

7. Sam and Tara – True Blood

There were quite a few couples in True Blood who's chemistry was nonexistent. Sam and Tara fell into that category, and Sookie and Bill could probably fit in there too. 

8. Dean and Beth – Good Girls

Are they even supposed to have chemistry? It's incredible that Dean and Beth still haven't divorced given how they both cheated and can't stand to be around each other. 

9. Rick and Jessie – The Walking Dead

Rick and Jessie are the definition of a filler relationship. Rick hadn't truly been with anyone since Lori, and the show wasn't quite ready to put him with his best friend, Michonne. Therefore, Rick and Jessie existed in limbo. 

10. Amy and Adam – Superstore

The relationship between Amy and her husband was so bad it was laughable. It was hard even to consider them a couple when her chemistry with her co-worker, Jonah, was off the charts in comparison. 

11. Finn and Raven – The 100

To be fair, Finn didn't have chemistry with anyone. But he and Raven always appeared as though they had more of a sibling bond than a romantic one. 

12. Betty and Jughead – Riverdale

Considering that the actors dated in real life, it was surprising that the characters onscreen chemistry dwindled so dramatically. Now everytime they're on the screen together we can't help but sing, "Thank U, Next."

13. Seg and Lyta – Krypton

If we're being honest, Seg doesn't have much chemistry with anyone, but his relationship with Lyta was dull in every sense of the word. 

14. Lucifer and Eve – Lucifer

Lucifer and Eve might not have been able to keep their hands off each other, but it always felt forced on Lucifer's end to get over Chloe. Nothing about it seemed real. 

15. Allison and Luther – The Umbrella Academy

Allison and Luther were raised as siblings and had no problem calling the rest of their family brothers and sisters. The romance between them felt wrong in every way possible. 

16. Frank and Claire – House of Cards

Frank and Claire's marriage didn't feel real at all. There seemed to be a lack of love, and it felt as if they were married to suit their political agendas more than anything else.

17. Jess and Robby – New Girl

Even before they realized they were cousins, their interactions were just plain cringe-worthy. Jess and Robby kept trying to force what wasn't there. 

18. Jane and Rafael – Jane the Virgin

Don't come at me, Jafael fans. There's no denying that over the second half of the series their chemistry drastically improved.

But besides one kiss amped up with dramatic music and falling flower petals, their relationship was bland and uneventful in the first few seasons. Even Rafael originally saw Jane like a sister. 

19. Liz and Kyle – Roswell, New Mexico

Their hookups may not have lasted for long, but it was still hard to watch Liz and Kyle together when it seemed rather tasteless and was never going to go anywhere. 

20. Jackie and Fez – That 70's Show

How did this even happen? Jackie had two other viable options with whom she had chemistry, and it made no sense that the series decided to stick her with the one person she didn't. 

21. Riley and Lucas – Girl Meets World

It still blows our minds that Riley and Lucas ended up together. Their entire story was boring and stereotypical, and Lucas had much more chemistry with Riley's best friend, Maya. 

22. Shelby and Ryan – Quantico

Shelby and Ryan should never have been a thing in the first place. We're still shocked that Quantico decided to go with such a hollow relationship over the alternatives.

23. George and Izzie – Grey's Anatomy

George and Izzie always gave off friendship vibes more than anything. When they got together, it looked like they were kissing their brother or sister. 

24. Jason and Tahani – The Good Place

Thankfully, Jason and Tahani happened in a small number of the reboots, but it was still weird to watch. Now, they're married so that Jason can share in her wealth. 

25. Rebecca and Josh – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend made such a big deal about the Rebecca and Josh's relationship when it wasn't even all that to begin with. They both have more chemistry with other people. 

26. Veronica and Duncan – Veronica Mars

Duncan stayed away from Veronica because he thought that she was his sister, and honestly, that dynamic fit them better than a romantic one. 

27. Felicity and Ray – Arrow

Felicity was only with Ray to cause drama between her and Oliver, so it made sense that there weren't any sparks here. They weren't the couple viewers were supposed to be rooting for. 

28. Greg and Jax – Pandora 

When Greg and Jax meet up at the Space Fleet Training Academy, Jax makes it clear that she's not interesting in caring for anyone else. Her whole attitude played into the events that followed, and now there's not even a chance to see if chemistry could have even been created between the two.  

29. Ted and The Slutty Pumpkin – How I Met Your Mother

The lack of compatibility between Ted and The Slutty Pumpkin was comical. They couldn't even hold hands without making it awkward. We know you were hung up on her for a while Ted, but some things just aren't meant to be. 

30. Charles and Liza – Younger

Many people will likely disagree with this one, but Charles and Liza have always felt more forced than anything. While their scenes together are sometimes enjoyable, the fireworks aren't there and they have never been. 

31. Ed and Kelly – The Orville

Despite being married in the past, Ed and Kelly's relationship is only good when it's a working one. Kelly now serves as Ed's first officer and everything gets thrown out of wack when they try to rekindle their romance. 

32. Rose and Mickey – Doctor Who

Mickey and Rose knew each other since they were kids and Mickey always had a crush on Rose. But viewers were always given the impression that Rose only cared about Mickey as a friend and was with him more for convenience than anything else. 

33. Lorelai and Jason – Gilmore Girls

Maybe we're biased, but Lorelai never had chemistry with anyone other than Luke. It's probably because, deep in her heart, it was always Luke she wanted to be with. 

34. Simon and Clary – Shadowhunters

Simon and Clary gave off best friend energy, and that was it. We get that the show threw them together to stay true to Cassandra Clare's books, but viewers could have done without it.

35. Michael and Ash – Star Trek: Discovery

Ash being a physically reconstructed Klingon with memories grafted over his real identity made his relationship with Michael undesirable. Whatever spark used to be there has gone out completely. 

36. Dean and Lisa – Supernatural 

Dean's time on the road with his brother doesn't give him many opportunities for long-term romances, but when he did finally get one it was underwhelming. The only woman Dean ever had chemistry with was Jo, and she was killed moments after their first kiss. 

37. Caitlin and Julian – The Flash

Caitlin and Julian are both great characters, but sadly the spark isn't there. No matter how much we love them, sometimes couples just fall flat. 

38. Gina and Charles – Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Gina and Charles went from begrudging co-workers to casually hooking up, to step-siblings, to ex step-siblings. The whole thing was a giant trainwreck. 

39. Devon and Julian – The Resident

Devon and Julian were a weird case. There were times it was easy to ship them, but their chemistry was always off, and sometimes they were plain awkward around each other. 

40. Aria and Ezra – Pretty Little Liars

The only vibes Ezria gave off were creepy ones. A sixteen-year-old girl and her high school teach don't have chemistry. If anything, the forbidden love aspect tried to compensate for the lack of it. 

41. Wil and Mareth – The Shannara Chronicles

Who thought this was a good idea? Wil had much more chemistry with Eretria, and while Mareth was a fun addition to the show, her romance with Wil felt forced.

However, series star, Robin Wright has opened up about the show's dire prognosis following Kevin Spacey being ousted for alleged sexual misconduct. 

“[The show was] very, very close” to getting canceled “because of the climate at the time,” Wright revealed in an interview with Net-a-Porter.

“The air was thick, you know. Harvey Weinstein… People were [saying], ‘We have to shut everything down, or otherwise it will look like we are glorifying and honoring this thing that’s dirty.'”

With Netflix acting quickly when the reports about Spacey came to light, Wright confirmed that she met with Netflix executives because she “believed we should finish. I believed we should honor our commitment. To the people that loved the show, also. Why quit?”

With that, the cast, crew, and everyone else behind the scenes would have been out of a job if the plug was pulled completely. 

"They printed that it was ‘only’ 600 people out of work, but if you include security, cops, shooting on location in Baltimore, everything, 2,500 people would have been out of a job," the actress continued. 

"And that’s not fair — to take that security away from those people.”

The star went on to discuss her thoughts on whether Spacey could reform following the allegations lodged against him.

“I believe every human being has the ability to reform…. In that sense, second chances, or whatever you are going to call it – absolutely, I believe in that. It’s called growth.”

Netflix recently confirmed that House of Cards would return for one final season on November 2.

The post House of Cards: Robin Wright Reveals Final Season Almost Never Happened appeared first on TV Fanatic.

Netflix announced Tuesday that House of Cards Season 6 will bow on the streamer Friday, November 2.

As previously reported, it will be the final season of the political thriller and will focus on Robin Wright's Claire as she becomes the most powerful person in the United States of America. 

Kevin Spacey was ousted from the series last November following multiple men coming forward with sexual assault allegations against the actor. 

Initially, the series entered a production hiatus just weeks into production on what would ultimately become the series' swan song.

“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” said a statement from a Netflix spokesperson at the time. 

However, the streamer quickly changed course and announced that Wright would be the focal point of the final season. 

Being two weeks into filming, it meant that the creative forces behind the show had to go back to the drawing board in order to rework the season to exclude Spacey as Frank Underwood. 

There's still no word on what will become of the character, but the more likely scenario involves and off-screen death for the power hungry character. 

Last month, Wright opened up about her relationship with Spacey in an interview with The Today Show.  

"I didn't know the man," Wright said. 

"We were coworkers, really. We never socialized outside of work. [It was a] respectful, professional relationship. He was so great with me. He was never disrespectful to me, so that's my personal experience," Wright said of the allegations against Spacey.

The pair appeared as husband and wife Frank and Claire Underwood on the Netflix thriller which was almost shelved indefinitely as a result. 

"I didn't know the man," Wright said in an interview on The Today Show. 

"We were coworkers, really. We never socialized outside of work. [It was a] respectful, professional relationship. He was so great with me. He was never disrespectful to me, so that's my personal experience," Wright said of the allegations against Spacey. 

"That's the only thing that I feel I have the right to talk about." 

The actress goes on to describe Spacey as an "incredible craftsman."

She added: "Kevin and I knew each other between 'action' and 'cut' and in between set-ups, where we would giggle."

In late 2017, there were multiple allegations of sexual assault lodged against Kevin Spacey.

It all started in October last year when Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp went public about unwanted sexual advances from Spacey back in 1986. 

"He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold,” Rapp told BuzzFeed, adding:“But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.”

“He was trying to seduce me,” Rapp continued. “I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”

Rapp noted that he was coming forward after seeing the stories women have been sharing about their unwanted encounters with Harvey Weinstein.

Rapp also confirmed that he shoved Spacey off of him when the alleged incident occurred.

“I was like, ‘What is happening?’ I saw on the counter next to the sink a picture of him having his arm around a man," the actor said.

"So I think on some level I was like, ‘Oh. He’s gay. I guess.' Then I opened the door, and I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to go home now.’"

"He followed me to the front door of the apartment, and as I opened the door to leave, he was leaning on the front door[frame]."

"And he was like, ‘Are you sure you wanna go?’ "I said, ‘Yes, good night,’ and then I did leave.”

Spacey released the following statement in response to Rapp coming forward. 

Netflix responded by putting the series on hold just two weeks into production of its sixth season, and there was even word that the show would not return. 

However, it was later revealed that Spacey was out of the show and that Wright would be the focal point of the eight-episode final season. 

A premiere date has yet to be revealed for the new episodes, but it is expected to return this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear have joined the cast of the series as production resumes on its last-ever season. 

Production was initially shut down back in October when series star, Kevin Spacey was fired in the aftermath of a string of allegations of sexual assault and harassment against him. 

Given that Netflix and Media Rights Capital severed ties with Spacey, the fate of the series was up in the air for some time as investigations continued. 

It was recently confirmed that the show will return for eight final episodes, with Robin Wright leading the cast, but there was no indication of how Spacey would be written out. 

Spacey's character, Frank Underwood does die in the book in which the series is inspired by, so there's a good chance that would make the most sense. 

An off-screen death and never spoken about again sounds like the best course of action. 

The series was a defining one when it launched for Netflix back in 2013. It was one of the streaming giant's first original series and the first to elevate Netflix to the big leagues. 

It has been nominated for 53 Emmy Awards throughout its run, so it's definitely striking a chord with viewers. 

No details have been revealed about who Lane and Kinnear will be playing in the series, but we're sure they will have big roles given their pedigree. 

Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver will also be part of the cast for the final season. 

Lane has appeared in Unfaithful, Under the Tuscan Sun, Hollywoodland, Trumbo and A Walk on the Moon, but House of Cards will mark her first series-regular role on TV. 

Kinnear has appeared in As Good as It Gets, Little Miss Sunshine and You've Got Mail.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos confirmed the news to Deadline, saying that the final eight episodes will “bring closure of the show for fans.”

Also, Kevin Spacey will not appear on the final episodes, meaning his co-star, Robin Wright will become the lead. 

The streaming giant previously announced that production was suspended on the show in light of sexual harassment allegations against Spacey. 

“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” the two companies said in a joint statement on October 31. 

There was a lot of doubt about whether the show would return to the air considering Netflix was public about distancing itself from Spacey after the initial allegations. 

Star Trek: Discovery star, Anthony Rapp was the first person to go public with allegations that Spacey tried to seduce him at his New York apartment in 1986. 

At the time, Rapp was just 14 years old. 

Spacey released a swift statement in the aftermath of Rapp's comments in which he came out as gay, and claimed to not remember the incident. 

“I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor,” Spacey wrote on Twitter at the time.

“I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago.

"But if I did behave as he described, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”
