The streaming giant announced today that the Rob Lowe sitcom Unstable has been canceled after two seasons.

It’s been a tough year for Lowe, whose 9-1-1: Lone Star recently received the ax from Fox.

But when all is said and done, Rob Lowe still leads a pretty enviable life. So the real losers in this situation are, as always, the folks who continue to shell out for increasingly pricey Netflix subscriptions.

The situation has us feeling a bit like Charlie Brown. In this analogy, Netflix is Lucy, and exciting new content is the football that’s cruelly pulled away each time we make our eager approach.

At this point, it feels like every longtime Netflix subscriber has a horror story about getting hooked on a show just to see it unceremoniously axed after one or two seasons.

News of Unstable’s cancelation comes on the heels of the announcement that beloved Jeff Goldblum comedy Kaos has been canned.

Obviously, removing shows from the lineup for budgetary reasons is a practice that’s as old as television itself.

And some of those shows are bound to leave a crowd of disappointed fans in their wake.

But Netflix’s cancel-happy ways have become an industry-wide punchline. And frustrated subscribers are increasingly fed up.

The list of highly regarded shows that have been kicked to the curb by Reed Hastings and company is too long to reproduce here.

Some of the cancellations that prompted the biggest uproar were The OA, Sense8, Tuca and Bertie, Glow, Everything Sucks!, and, of course, Mindhunter.

David Fincher’s acclaimed serial killer drama had a five-season plan that was scrapped amid budgetary concerns.

“It’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment,” Fincher told Le Journal du Dimanche at the time.

It’s tough to imagine another “prestige” outlet — like, say, HBO — abruptly cutting ties with a top-tier talent like Fincher and a buzzy show like Mindhunter under any circumstances.

But at Netflix, that sort of brutally callous decision has become par for the course.

The strategy makes sense, of course. As a publicly traded company, Netflix has a responsibility to its shareholders, and stagnation amounts to a slow death in today’s economy.

One has to wonder, however, if execs’ obvious lack of concern for the subscribers’ experience will eventually begin to effect their bottom line.

“At this point, I mostly hear about Netflix shows via their cancelation,” wrote one Reddit user in response to the Unstable announcement.

“They make way too many shows to effectively market them, and then instantly kill them off if they don’t become a viral hit by happenstance.”

The comments were echoed by countless others, many of whom noted that Netflix seems to take a rather half-hearted approach to promoting its shows.

“I’ve seen plenty about Shogun, Agatha All Along, The Penguin, Dune, whatever. For Netflix shows I only hear when they go viral or get canceled, never any real marketing,” wrote one commenter.

“I never see ads for any Netflix shows ever anymore,” another chimed in.

“I can’t remember the last time I opened Netflix but there’s nothing out there telling me I should be going onto Netflix to watch their latest thing. I couldn’t even guess what is trending on there now.”

The situation has led many subscribers to wonder why Netflix doesn’t simply switch its focus to limited series and original movies.

The answer, of course, is that one-off projects with definitive endings are kryptonite to a subscription-based streaming service.

Audiences are too likely to subscribe for a single month (often on a free trial basis) and then cancel once they’ve watched the content they were interested in.

It’s one of the major drawbacks of the streaming age, and one reason that so many services are now supplementing their revenue with advertising.

So to add insult to injury, you may now be forced to shell out a subscription fee and sit through ads on a service that will cancel your favorite show if it’s not an immediate viral sensation.

Hey, we’re not claiming to know what the answer is here, but the current situation feels increasingly unsustainable.

If its cancelation was the usual "Netflix cancels another original after three seasons," it wouldn't have hurt as much because we're accustomed to it.

In GLOW's case, though, numerous factors made the news of its sudden cancelation hit harder than a Hammer & Sickle from Zoya the Destroyer.

First of all, the cancelation came about because of COVID, and — to put it mildly — anything COVID related automatically makes any situation sadder.

Secondly, it wasn't just a cancellation; it was a reversal of a renewal. Finding out a show you liked was canceled after it had been renewed, and you were looking forward to the upcoming season, makes it much worse than an outright cancellation.

Third, the rescinded renewal wasn't just for any season. It was for GLOW's final season.

With GLOW canceled, GLOW Season 3 becomes its final season by default. Out of all three seasons, GLOW Season 3 is the least suited for the role of the series' final season.

GLOW Season 1 and GLOW Season 2 would have served better as final seasons. Both of those seasons felt complete in themselves despite leaving room to continue the series.

GLOW Season 3, on the other hand, provided very little closure. 

For one thing, GLOW Season 3 Episode 10 ended with the cliffhanger of Carmen and Ruth quitting GLOW to pursue their passions elsewhere.

The future of many couples were left in doubt.

The unresolved sexual tension between Ruth and Sam goes back to the first season.

On GLOW Season 2 Episode 9, Ruth chose "nice," "consistent" Russell over Sam. If GLOW ended the Ruth and Sam romance at the moment Sam respected Ruth's choice like an adult on GLOW Season 2 Episode 10, it would not have been a good love story.     

It would have been a good story about people recognizing and changing their self-destructive habits. Only, GLOW was determined to make Ruth and Sam a love story and brought their will-they/won't-they relationship back to the forefront.

Just when it seemed GLOW Season 3 Episode 9 was going to be the episode where Ruth and Sam consummated their relationship, the episode veered in the opposite direction. They got into a fight, and the season ended without Ruth and Sam reconciling.

GLOW spent a lot of real estate on the Ruth and Sam story. Knowing the series (now) ends without providing a firm resolution as to whether Ruth and Sam get together is frustrating.

While most shows play Greencard marriages for laughs, Rhonda and Bash's marriage was taken seriously and became one of GLOW's best storylines

With Rhonda in the know about Bash's sexuality and Bash wanting to stay together and start a family, the series was poised to take Rhonda and Bash into more complicated and emotionally fraught places. It would have been great to see how it would have played out. 

Even Cherry and Keith, the couple with the strongest relationship, didn't seem safe at the end of GLOW Season 3. The couple spent most of the season estranged because Keith was ready to have a baby, but Cherry was not.

Thanks to Carmen, Cherry and Keith reunited on GLOW Season 3 Episode 10, and Keith suggested adoption as a way to resolve their impasse. Only Cherry didn't seem too enthused about the idea, which leaves the fate of GLOW's best couple in limbo forever.

The couples are not the only ones left hanging. Tamme became seriously during the first half of GLOW Season 3. However, her injuries were quickly brushed aside once Carmen and Cherry came up with the idea of making Tamme a manager. 

It was left unclear whether Tamme's injuries would be permanent or if she would make a comeback into the ring.

Meanwhile on the business side of things, GLOW Season 3 Episode 10 promised a lot of new developments. Debbie and Bash bought a TV station. They already made plans to relocate back to Los Angeles and create a new wrestling show.

This was an exciting plot twist for in-show and out-of-show reasons. In-show it meant the characters were progressing to bigger and better things.

Out-of-show it was a big, neon light indicating that GLOW was ready to be GLOW again.

GLOW Season 3 was a sad deconstruction of the series. While the first two seasons celebrated wrestling and how the sport empowered the wrestlers, the third season focused on the downsides and made it clear wrestling was only a placeholder until something better came along.

With the characters detached and uninterested because wrestling became boring and repetitive for them, it was hard to engage with GLOW Season 3.

The deconstruction approach would have paid off if, like it had been hinted, GLOW Season 4 was about the group reuniting and rediscovering their love for wrestling.

Except now GLOW Season 4 is not happening. GLOW Season 3 Episode 10 is the de facto series finale, and it leaves us mostly in the dark. It's not the bright ending GLOW deserved. Let's hope the rallying cry for a movie gets a satisfying response.

The series was axed earlier this week due to production issues relating to COVID-19. 

It was three weeks into production in March when nationwide shutdown orders were announced, meaning it had to stop production. 

Two and a half episodes were completed at the time, and they are not expected to see the light of day. 

"Let us wrap it up in a two-hour Netflix movie. Give the showrunners and the cast and the writers the chance to finish this story in a movie, right? Then it's all fine," said Marc Maron, who played director Sam Sylvia, in an Instagram Live video.

"They had the whole season laid out. You know? We know, sort of, where it's gonna go."

"That would take the financial pressure off and the writers could play it out, we could shoot it out. The thing about shooting a movie is that when you have the whole shooting script you can be economical about your shooting. I think they could do it in less time than it would take to shoot the show."

Maron said that creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch indicated that Netflix "didn't want to pay to keep the sets alive" while waiting for a safer work environment. 

"We've got two offices and sound stages being leased," he noted.

"I was told that they didn't want to eat the cost of maintaining the sets for another six or seven months to begin production."

In the immediate aftermath of the stunning announcement that the GLOW's fourth and final season will not complete production due to COVID-19, the cast of the show took to social media to say goodbye, 

“Going to miss this… Forever grateful to my GLOW family for changing my life forever. ❤️ #glownetflix,” Alison Brie wrote on Instagram. 

"No more GLOW. Sorry. Stinks," said Marc Maron. 

"So glad to have been a tiny part of this show. I will play Betty Gilpin’s husband or ex-husband or mail carrier or anything, anytime anyone ever asks me to," said Rich Sommer.

"She’s one of my favorite scene partners of all time, and I was beyond lucky to get to stand toe-to-toe with her."

"Thank you for changing my life Liz," said Shakira Barrera. 

The cancellation announcement comes over six months after Netflix was forced to halt production on the fourth season a few weeks into production. 

"We've made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of GLOW due to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging," said a Netflix spokesperson.

"We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of GLOW with us and the world."

“COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW,” series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch said in a statement to Deadline.

“We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone."

"There’s a lot of sh*tty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.”

Added Flahive and Mensch, “We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job."

GLOW has been canceled after three seasons at Netflix despite snagging a renewal for a fourth and final season. 

The news is surprising, especially when you consider that it was a popular show, and that it already had a renewal in place for one last season. 

Now, fans will be left in the lurch as the series is over. 

GLOW, which is executive-produced by Jenji Kohan (Orange is the New Black), was canceled on the same day as Teenage Bounty Hunters, which got the boot after a single season. 

"We've made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of GLOW due to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging," said a Netflix spokesperson, according to Deadline.

"We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of GLOW with us and the world."

That means scripted originals are scaling back for the season, but this is a summer like no other. 

While shows such as Big Brother, Love Island, Animal Kingdom, and Claws would typically have premiere dates by now, all four of those shows are MIA. 

This is in response to novel Coronavirus pandemic that has brought Hollywood — and beyond — to a grinding halt. 

Several TV shows were unable to complete production on their seasons, and it's not safe for some reality shows to enter production as planned. 

TV Fanatic is here to update you on the future of shows you typically watch during summer. 

American Ninja Warrior – NBC

This beloved unscripted offering was unable to complete production. 

No details have been released by NBC, but it's possible that the series could sit out of this summer entirely, depending on when it is safe to resume. 

NBC could push the series to next summer or complete production and keep the episodes in case it needs them throughout the regular TV season. 

Ultimately, it will come down to whether NBC wants it. 

Animal Kingdom – TNT

This addictive drama that focuses on one of the most dysfunctional families on the small screen is very much in limbo. 

It was renewed for Season 5, but the pandemic brought production to a halt with several episodes unproduced. 

There is a lot up in the air both on the screen and of it for fans. 

TNT could agree to air the completed episodes this summer, but the more likely scenario would be to save it until late 2020 or early 2021. 

The Bachelorette – ABC

This summer reality series typically bows in late May. 

Despite the season already being cast with Clare Crawley in the lead, it has been reported that many of the men will be replaced. 

No ETA on a premiere date, but there is word that the series will move to a resort and keep all the action within the one setting. 

Big Brother – CBS

CBS summer staple Big Brother usually has a premiere date by now, but the show is very much in limbo. 

It has been renewed, yes, but that was for a summer launch. The pandemic means that the show cannot be safely produced. 

The Canadian edition was canceled midway through its most recent season because of the virus, so CBS will not want that to happen. 

Given that Big Brother has a fast turnaround, it will probably debut in late August and run until CBS needs the slots back for scripted originals. 

Blood & Treasure – CBS

This fun series was perfect summer TV and CBS renewed it, despite soft on-air ratings. 

The sophomore season entered production in October 2019, and CBS has yet to schedule it. 

It is likely that post-production was not completed before the COVID-19 shutdown brought everything to a halt. 

It could air this year, but it could also be pushed to midseason. 

City on a Hill – Showtime

This Kevin Bacon-led thriller was in production when the pandemic hit. 

Unfortunately, production has been shut down, and the show is currently MIA. 

Still, it will give fans longer to dissect some of the revelations from the close of its first season. 

Claws – TNT

Like Animal Kingdom, Claws did not complete production on its most recent season. 

If you watch Claws online, you know Desna and her crew have a lot to deal with in the fourth and final season. 

But fans will have have to wait some time before the episodes see the light of day. 

The series is a hoot, and it will be so worth the wait. 

Euphoria – HBO

Production on this premium cable drama was supposed to get underway in March. 

As you can probably imagine, it did not get underway. 

Having a leading lady named Zendaya, who is probably one of the most in-demand actresses around, will complicate things. 

The actress is busy, and it means the series may not return until *GASP* next summer. 

Fear the Walking Dead – AMC

This spinoff may not be all that great, but it would be something to watch for fans of the franchise. 

It has been renewed for Season 6, and it was in production when the pandemic hit. 

As a result, the show will not be premiering in the summer like it usually does. 

AMC does typically split the season up, so it could mean that a fall launch with less than 8 episodes could be in order. 

We know you want to find out what became of Morgan, but patience is a virtue. 

Glow – Netflix

Production on the final season was affected. 

Only a handful of weeks of production were completed by the time the pandemic hit. 

The Alison Brie-led comedy typically debuts in the summer, but fans will have to wait even longer for the conclusion. 

The good news is that all episodes will debut at once when it does finally arrive. 

Good Trouble – Freeform

The series was slated to return for its third season this summer. 

But given that production was halted, Freeform pushed the series to 2021. 

It's unclear when production will resume, but fans will be paying attention for a premiere date to get answers to all of those season finale questions. 

We really are hooked on this spinoff of The Fosters. 

grown-ish – Freeform

This Yara Shahidi-led black-ish spinoff has been pushed to 2021. 

The second half of its third season will air then, and the show has been renewed for a fourth season. 

Even though Freeform cannot seem to get a show off the ground, this has been a resounding success since it debuted. 

The Handmaid's Tale – Hulu

This Elisabeth Moss-led drama has suffered a setback due to the pandemic. 

Given that zero episodes have been completed for its fourth season, don't expect it back in 2021. 

The more likely scenario is a Spring 2021 launch.

Love Island – CBS

Love Island Season 1 was filmed in Fiji, but that does not appear to be an option this year. 

It has already missed its planned April launch, but recent reports have suggested that the second season will be filmed in the U.S.

It makes sense. 

The UK version was scrapped entirely for this summer, but that could be attributed to the lack of good weather. 

Look for Love Island to launch with Big Brother later this season. 

The Outpost – The CW

This popular drama is not airing in the summer as normal. 

The third season is being used to prop up the network's pandemic-proof fall schedule. 

It will be paired with the final episodes of Supernatural. 

Pose – FX

This riveting cable drama features some of the best acting on the small screen. 

Despite being renewed for a third season, it will not be airing this summer. 

The series was in production when the shutdown hit. 

Queen of the South – USA Network

This hit summer staple is in limbo. 

Despite scoring a renewal for a fifth season, the coronavirus pandemic scuppered production plans. 

USA Network has yet to announce what will become of the series, but it will likely resume production later this year for an early 2021 premiere. 

Stranger Things – Netflix

Fans will have to wait longer to find out what becomes of Eleven and her friends. 

Stranger Things Season 3 launched last summer, but production had not even started on Season 4 when the pandemic hit. 

So, don't expect the show to return until 2021. 

We're sure it will be worth the wait. 

Younger – Paramount Network

Younger has been renewed for Season 7. 

The series typically debuts in the summer, meaning that it should have completed production by now. 

However, Paramount has yet to announce a premiere date.

Please remember that with have almost two dozen favorites lists that we couldn't showcase every show on every list, so we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.

And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!

To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

Downton Abbey – PBS (2010-2015)

Regal. Opulent. Downton Abbey was the pinnacle of refined class mixed with cheeky British wit during its six seasons of the air.

The series followed the lives of the wealthy Crawley family and their servants as they dealt with the restrictions and rules that plagued them in polite society.

Downton Abbey pulled us in with its stunning fashion choices and well-developed characters; the characters were rooted with deep aspirations and thoughts that typically extended outside of their station. And it was this plot duality that made Downton Abbey truly shine.

The series showcased how both sides of the class structure struggled under the weight of their placement. Whether you rooted for the servants on the bottom floor or the Crawleys above, the series showcased how the characters and plots were affected during the 1910s – 1920s.

Vikings – History (2013-2020)

Vikings debuted as one of the most thrilling series on the air.

Airing after the success of The Tudors from the previous decade, it took a step even farther back into history that ultimately brought the lore of an entire civilization to life on the small screen.

Ragnar, Lagertha, Rollo, and Loki started it, but the next generation is carrying it home as the Norse men and women explore and conquer well beyond their initial small footprint on the planet.

And the Vikings production value and performances proved that History could deliver on scripted content.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – Amazon Prime (2017-present)

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes place in 1950s New York – a time when divorce was frowned upon and women were encouraged to be stay-at-home moms.

Lading lady Mrs. Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) broke the rules by pursuing a crazy dream in stand-up comedy triggered by her schmuck of a husband’s cheating.

With the help of her plucky manager, Susie (Alex Borstein), she takes the world of standup comedy by storm bumping into history (hello, Lenny Bruce!) along the way. But the real humor comes from Maisel’s very old-school, very Jewish parents who absolutely disapprove of her decisions and new lifestyle.

With the signature witty dialogue from creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino and more colorful costumes and sets than should be allowed, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an entertaining and immersive experience with history.

Stranger Things – Netflix (2016-present)

The ‘80s have never looked more fun than it has during Stranger Things.

Sure, there are creepy Demogorgons to fight and the “Upside Down” ruined life for the characters in Hawkins, Indiana, but Stranger Things has all the neon energy that reminds you of why the ‘80s were so cool.

From the music to the clothing and hairstyles, this is the perfect time capsule. And, with the rise of Dungeons & Dragons, how much more ‘80s can it get?

With a great cast of characters and a gripping supernatural mystery pushing the plot, Stranger Things is an addictive and fun series to watch.

Halt and Catch Fire – AMC (2014-2017)

Set on the creative minds who helped make the PC and the World Wide Web available to all, Halt and Catch Fire somehow made the life of tech geeks seem thrilling.

The rivalry, the upsets, the achievements, and the innovation all played out against a deep character drama while shedding light on life before the technological advances we take for granted today.

Lee Pace, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, and Kerry Bishé led the talented cast and brought to life an unlikely group of characters intricately tied to one another no matter how far they strayed from their original efforts to make their technological mark.

The Americans – FX (2013-2018)

The best thing about The Americans was trying to imagine in what ways Philip and Elizabeth Jennings would be affected by raising a family from their arranged marriage in a country they’re actively betraying because of their allegiance to their motherland.

Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell perfectly portrayed their characters as they were put through the rings as agonizing decisions about life, family, and national loyalty were made on the fly.

Right up to the finale, we had no idea if they would survive let alone whether they would stay in America and embrace everything they’ve lived for decades or whether they’d return home.

Somehow, the show managed to film a show set in the '70s and '80s in a way that never seemed as dated as it could have. The topics are so incendiary, and the family drama was so effectively written that it plays for the ages.

The Crown – Netflix (2016-present)

The Crown is an absolute masterpiece! Sheer perfection from its costuming to stellar cast to storytelling progression.

Established in six parts (as of the time of this writing, only three seasons have been released), The Crown follows the years of Queen Elizabeth II as she ascended the crown and led the monarchy, as well as her family and the public/government who grew with the times alongside her.

The Crown exposes many of the hurdles hidden away within the royal family as they dealt with scandal and increasing pressure on their royal duties.

While certain parts are embellished and dramatized, the series is a breathtaking look at the royals and the astonishing acting talent who portrays them. (Seriously, Claire Foy is incredible!)

Mad Men – AMC (2007-2015)

Mad Men is a powerful look into the cutthroat world of 1960s advertising men. Running for seven seasons, Mad Men followed creative director Don Draper during his pursuit of big business, beautiful women, and financial success.

Rounding out the story included his tumultuous home life, his endless affairs, and the business politics that pitted coworker against coworker in his workplace agency.

Man Men is an amazing look into the culture of the ‘60s, from clothing to the abundance of cigarettes to the ideals/beliefs that citizens had during that time.

Mad Men never shied away from showcasing how life was like during that era.

Mindhunter – Netflix (2017-present)

As with any field of study, it takes time to research and develop before it becomes an established practice.

Mindhunter on Netflix follows the history of how the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit created a methodology for finding and analyzing serial killers.

The series is set between the 1970s-80s and everything down to the products used fit within the time period.

Mindhunter goes to great lengths to mimic the feel of the decades and how the culture/styles shifted through the years, as well as the attitudes of his characters.

GLOW – Netflix (2017-present)

Ever wondered how the “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” (GLOW) came to be? This fictionalized TV series is inspired by the real-life events that launched a syndicated women’s professional wrestling circuit.

GLOW takes place in the ‘80s, and just like the big personalities of the wrestling characters, the hair is big, the neon colors are bold, and the nostalgia is at peak fun!

The series captures the vibe of the decade and how the characters’ development is shaped by the era.

Plus, the strength of the cast and the strong bonds between the characters makes this one of the best TV series (especially one that promotes female friendships) of the decade.

Good Girls Revolt – Amazon Prime (2016)

For one glorious season, feminism at an American magazine the likes of Newsweek Magazine in the late 1960s by focusing on several news researchers who found advancing beyond the role despite their education and qualifications difficult because of their gender.

The cast was great including Anna Camp, Genevieve Angelson, Hunter Parrish, Jim Belushi, Joy Bryant, and Grace Gummer.

Good Girls Revolt wonderfully expressed the culture of the time through sets and costumes and stories that still resonate today.

Godless – Netflix (2017)

This character-driven drama could fit into many categories, but for its limited nature, it’s landing here in period drama. Another series addressing gender issues, this one does it through the American West.

When a town loses all of its men in a mining disaster, the women step up to keep things afloat.

From more men hoping to make a killing by running the town and the mine again to a local band of thugs goes on the run, men try to topple the matriarchy.

The beautifully filmed and smartly written drama starred Jeff Daniels, Michelle Dockery, Merritt Weaver, Jack O’Connell, Sam Waterston, and Scoot McNairy.

When Calls the Heart – Hallmark (2014-present)

Erin Krakow stars as Elizabeth Thatcher in this sweet and modest romantic drama airing on Hallmark Channel.

A young teacher leaving her home in the city for adventures unknown, the series begins in 1910 in Canada.

Although it’s a light drama, the series initially dealt with the hardships of mining, especially with respect to safety issues.

As with many Hallmark dramas, When Calls the Heart explores relationships pre-sex, and the sets and costumes are lovely.

Boardwalk Empire – HBO (2010-2014)

Set in Prohibition Era Atlantic City, the story of the rise and fall of Nucky Thompson held nothing back as it explored the personal relationships, political dealings, and outright brutality of the early mobster organizations of the American East Coast.

The production value of this Martin Scorsese project never failed to impress, garnering seventeen Creative Arts Emmys in its five-year run.

Stellar performances by the likes of Steve Buscemi, Michael Kenneth Williams, Gretchen Mol, and Jack Huston shine through a powerful, multi-faceted narrative that led to perhaps the most perfect series finale ever.

Manhattan – WGN America (2014-2015)

Manhattan was the first scripted show curated for WGN America in an endeavor to make a mark in the content marketplace.

The series followed the scientists who created the atomic bomb and their while encamped at a small, makeshift (and secret) town off Los Alamos, New Mexico. The cast was incredibly talented and tthe story tightly written.

Manhattan explored the sacrifices made by the greatest minds in the world and their families and the marked impact they had on history as they worked diligently to bring an end to World War II.

The debate surrounding the achievement rages on to this day, and cutting short such groundbreaking television was a shame.

Hell on Wheels – AMC (2011-2016)

Former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon was still suffering from the horrors of the Civil War, and he was hell-bent on making the Union soldiers who killed his wife pay for their transgression.

The series follows Bohannan as he worked building the Union Pacific Railroad in the town that forever remained at the end of the line, Hell on Wheels.

Lives were lost. Blood was spilled. The railroad was completed. And Bohannan found a way to move forward.

Even with some of its misgivings, Hell on Wheels was a ride worth taking.

And yeah, everyone enjoys talking about CoNic, but Minator has been quietly stealing their thunder as this endearing slow-burn ship that makes you giggly. — Jasmine

Elite 

Elite came back on Netflix for a second season that was just as compelling and twisted as the first season. It's one of the more fun binge-watching series that Netflix has to offer. — Whitney

Disney+ Bringing Back Nostalgia 

Nostalgia is peaking with the rollout of Disney+. Being able to binge all of your favorite Disney Channel films and shows on a whim is awesome, but what's even better is that the service is rebooting some classics including Lizzie McGuire!

Hilary Duff returns at the quirky and lovable character along with most of the original cast (yes, even Ethan Craft!). Excuse us as we go freak out with animated Lizzie. — Lizzy 

The Mandalorian 

I'm so grateful for a total return to what made Star Wars so exciting and charming. I truly wasn't expecting such a true representation of the galaxy's canon while telling a brand new story on The Mandalorian. — Kerr

A Breathtaking Final Season of Mr. Robot

Mr. Robot Season 4 is a final season done right. Sam Esmail's work of art continues to evolve while laying the groundwork for the endgame. 

The acting from Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Carly Chaikin, and Grace Gummer continues to be enthralling.  — Paul

More Season of GLOW 

I'm thankful GLOW was renewed for season 4.  Ruth, Debbie and the rest deserve resolutions to their stories, and I've been longing for more GLOW ring-side action.  — Daniella

Prodigal Son Giving us Michael Sheen as a Sassy, Lovable Serial killer in a Dad Sweater 

Prodigal Son is such a sleeper hit. I never saw it coming, and it was a pleasant surprise when it hit the ground running and became the first network series to get a full-season order (Speaking of things I'm grateful for).

The entire cast is truly fantastic, but Michael Sheen as Martin Whitly is pure entertainment. He's having a ball in this role, and we're having a ball watching him. I mean, it's starting to make sense why serial killers have groupies. — Jasmine

Ethics Lessons on The Good Place 

We're going to miss all of Chidi's ethics lessons when The Good Place takes its final bow in 2020.

And though there's a legit argument as to why the show shouldn't end, it's also assuring that it's going out on its terms and ending the way the creators intended. Many shows don't get that luxury. Also, the cast is unparalleled. — Lizzy 

Angela Kang Steering The Walking Dead in the Right Direction

The Walking Dead circled the drain for years, but showrunner Angela Kang managed to bring the show back from the brink. 

Thanks to the thrilling execution of The Whisperers arc, the show is the best it's been in years. Heck, The Walking Dead Season 10 is the best-reviewed season yet on Rotten Tomatoes. — Paul

Looking for Alaska

I'm thankful for Looking for Alaska for showing that books can be adapted to screen in beautiful ways. It also restored my faith in teen dramas. — Meaghan

EVIL 

EVIL does a great job of presenting both sides of the arguments for and against belief in faith, presented via church assigned exorcism investigations. And the overarching storylines are what make the show so digestible. — Kerr

Smart Shows 

I'm thankful I get to watch and write about shows as smart as Succession even if the TV Fanatic audience has yet to find the gem.

I'm also thankful for Yellowstone and the similarities to Succession but instead of playing it cynical and with dry wit they lean hard into soapy goodness while never losing its grit. — Carissa

Grace Park Getting More Screentime on A Million Little Things 

She's incredible on the series but was woefully underused in the first season. But the first half of the AMLT Season 2 belongs to her character Katherine. She's been killing it. — Jasmine

The Unicorn

Thankful for The Unicorn for providing thoughtful and funny insight into an experience most shows don't want to deal with, moving on after the death of a wife and mother.

It's wonderful to get to know Walton Goggins in a wholly different context than Justified and Vice-Principals. The other couples keep the humor rolling and the family dynamics are honest and the emotions genuine. — Diana 

Ian Somerhalder's Return to Television

As a vampire hunter, no less. Ian Somerhalder has always excelled in the supernatural genre (he'll always be The Vampire Diaries baddie Damon Salvatore to us) and we're excited to see him take on a new role on the Netflix series V Wars. — Lizzy

Riverdale Continues to be a Wonderful, Insane Mess  

There's no better way to describe Riverdale than "complete insanity," but that's why we love it. When fans questioned why the show was going off the deep end, the writers were like "they want crazier storylines." And we do.

Stonewall Prep, crazy Charles Part 2, Dodger, Archie as a vigilante, a decomposing Jason corpse (okay, actually, they can keep that one) — the show never fails to leave us flabbergasted. — Lizzy 

The Conners Continues to Do What It Has Always Done Best 

This working-class, blue-collar family grapples with parenting issues, dating, divorce, death, and what it’s like to financially hold on by your fingertips and keep your family together in present-day America all while making us both laugh and cry.

The cast of The Conners never brings anything less than their A-game. This family falls down, gets back up, and keeps going even after Roseanne’s unexpected death as they try to figure out what comes next. I’m thrilled to be there for every hilarious, painful, and poignant moment. — Christine

Positive TV Shows Like God Friended Me

The Chemistry Between Rio and Beth

Castle Rock

I'm thankful for Castle Rock Season 2 and such an engaging imagining of a young Annie Wilkes played beautifully by Lizzy Caplan. I've always wondered how the Misery villainess came to be so psychotically kooky. So far, the series is doing a terrific job of making her real. — Kerr

9-1-1 

I'm thankful for 9-1-1 in general. It gets better and better with each episode. Fantastic cast and great storytelling and the Tsunami episodes were incredible. — Jasmine

Worthy Nancy Drew Mysteries 

The CW's Nancy Drew isn't a ratings hit, but it should be simply because of how well it juggles two compelling mysteries The show quickly set itself apart from Riverdale and established a ghostly history, which was done for shock-value at first, but now adds layers to the narrative. — Lizzy 

Colbie Smulders in Stumptown

Thankful for Stumptown for putting Cobie Smulders front and center in a kick-butt female role who is infinitely fallible and flawed but also true in her love for her brother.

Stumptown also gets props for its great representation of neurodiverse individuals like Cole Sibus as Ansel Parios and individuals of color like Tantoo Cardinal and Adrian Martinez as Sue Lynn Cardinal and Tookie, respectively. — Diana

Female-Led Programming 

This brings us to … being thankful for the upswing of high-caliber female-led programming including Killing Eve, Big Little Lies, The Morning Show, Fleabag, and Dead to Me, among others. Women are no longer fighting for the good parts and are creating them for themselves with incredible success. — Carissa

A 1980s-Themed American Horror Story

American Horror Story: 1984 was bursting at the seams with nostalgia. The camp setting allowed for a tried and tested formula, with the usual subverting of expectations from the likes of Ryan Murphy. — Paul

Amelia & Link's Romance on Grey's Anatomy 

It's consistently the brightest spot of the entire season of Grey's Anatomy. I'm just going to ignore that cliffhanger in the midseason finale. They are the only couple I'm invested in and care about right now. — Jasmine

The Devil Next Door on Netflix 

I am thankful for the informative telling of this insane story. The docuseries about the 1980s trials of a man thought to have been the infamous Ivan the Terrible of Treblinka; trials I had never even been aware of till now. — Kerr

Crossover Episodes

2019 is the year of major crossovers. The #OneChicago franchise has figured out a successful formula, excelling with an infection-inspired three-episode crossover that felt more like a movie than a TV show.

The addition of Batwoman to the DC Comics catalog allows for the biggest crossover yet "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Catch us sitting in front of the TV for five nights straight. — Lizzy

Legacies & Their Monster-of-the-Week 

I'm thankful that Legacies doesn't take itself too seriously. They cut through all the Malivore, monster-of-the-week drama with humor that not only strengthens the character bonds but propels the show into a new genre: supernatural comedy.

The lesson here is to never take yourself too seriously, especially when kicking monster butt. — Lizzy

The Emmy-winning comedy series has been renewed for a fourth and final season. 

The hit series stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron — all of whom are expected to be part of the last hurrah. 

Creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch will return as showrunners, writers, and executive producers, alongside executive producers Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann, and Mark Burley.

The series is inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s.

It tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling.

In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin ), a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture-perfect life is not what it seems.

And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom.

The show has been a critical success from its inception, as well as an awards magnet for Netflix. 

To date, the series has earned 15 Emmy® nominations, and three wins, 7 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and one win, 2 Golden Globe Nominations, 3 WGA Award Nominations, and 2 Art Directors Guild Award wins.

The decision to renew the series will be a welcome one for fans, but it's sad that it will be the last-ever one. 

The series was on the bubble for a third season renewal, and given that Netflix has canceled a string of popular shows over the last year, fans have been waiting on tenterhooks for a decision.
