Glamorous star Miss Benny took to TikTok this week to open up about her time working on Netflix's Fuller House, and it sounds like it wasn't the best experience.

Miss Benny played Casey in two episodes of the Full House revival as Casey, a friend of Kimmy's daughter, Ramona.

"One of the Tanner sisters is, like, very publicly not for the girls, if that makes sense," Miss Benny shared on the social media platform, recalling that the cast member tried to get her character removed.

While Miss Benny never mentions Candace Cameron Bure by name, the actress' name was hashtagged in the video.

"I remember I got sat down by the writers and the studio to basically warn me how this person allegedly was trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show."

Miss Benny said that there were conversations to nix the character of Casey because of this cast member.

"I was also sort of warned and prepared that this person's fan base might be encouraged to target me specifically," Miss Benny shared.

"So to this day, despite working on the show every day for two weeks straight, I have only had a conversation with one of the Tanner sisters."

Despite the less-than-stellar reaction from one of the actors about her being on the show, Miss Benny said she had "a really fun time actually shooting the show with all the other actors who were willing to talk to me, and the show ultimately led to me being on Glamorous on Netflix."

Miss Benny said in the video that it "continuously blows my mind how queer people, specifically queer young adults and queer children are being targeted and having to advocate for themselves against adults."

Bure, for her part, released a statement to TV Line in which she denied wanting Miss Benny removed from the show.

"I never asked Miss Benny's character to be removed from Fuller House and did not ask the writers, producers, or studio executives to not have queer characters on the show," the statement reads.

"Fuller House has always welcomed a wide range of characters. I thought Miss Benny did a great job as 'Casey' on the show."

"We didn't share any scenes together, so we didn't get a chance to talk much while filming on set," Bure added.

"I wish Miss Benny only the best."

Sidekicks prop up the lead, provide comedic relief, and give advice all without outshining the lead. Except many of these sidekicks do just that. Check out the list now.

The post These TV Shows Wouldn’t be the Same Without the Sidekicks appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
Main characters can be overrated. There, I said it.

The problem with main characters is that there’s so much pressure placed on them to be likable.

Sometimes the added pressure works in a character's favor, but other times, the extra attention turns what could have been an admirable lead into one that either falls flat or appears too overdeveloped.

That's rarely the case with sidekicks as they are quite literally created with the intention of propping up said main character

Now, that isn't to say the role of a sidekick is easy; their job is especially difficult as they bear a handful of responsibilities. They’re known as supporting and secondary characters that assist the main character, break the ice in tense situations using comedic relief, give advice, and clean up messes.

They also have the ability to raise the stakes of a show without outshining the lead.

Except here’s the thing — many of the sidekicks listed here do just that.

Actors who portray sidekicks have the ability to play with a role and make it their own often leading to a character that resonates with audiences in more significant ways than the main character.

Quinn Goes Missing - Scandal
(ABC)

More often than not, the secondary characters become much more than just "sidekicks."

Gone are the days when they weren't supposed to have a life outside of the protagonist’s plot. Now, they take on lives of their own with backstories, flaws, conflicts, and successes.

They are so vital to the success of a show, in fact, that there’s a whole award show category dedicated to “supporting actors.”

The truth is, without the sidekick, the main character — no matter how great — is incomplete.

And every true TV fan knows that main characters are only as great as the sidekicks that they surround themselves with.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in Miami
(Amazon)

We’re taking a look at some memorable sidekicks who have etched their way into our hearts and inevitably, and sometimes unintentionally, elevated the show to greater heights.

There are so many different types of sidekicks, but one of the most common ones is the brains behind the operation.

These sidekicks act as a foil by being filling a void left behind by the main character and possessing characteristics that the lead lacks.

One of my personal favorite sidekicks and admittedly, the one that inspired this piece, is Susie on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Susie Meyerson - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
(Amazon Prime)

There would be no Mrs. Maisel without Susie Meyerson (Alex Borstein).

She helped discover Midge’s talent, she held her hand throughout the whole process, she groomed her from dinky club act to main stage performer, she vouched for her and stuck her neck out for her, and she continues to champion her in a male-dominated industry.

Their friendship and partnership carries the series, and while Midge may be the talent, she likely wouldn’t have gotten this far without the perseverance of her manager.

Revenge’s Nolan (Gabriel Mann) completes Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke and is the reason why her intricate revenge plot never fell apart.

Emily Helps Nolan - Revenge Season 4 Episode 12
(ABC/Danny Feld)

Emily/ Amanda wouldn’t have been able to accomplish half of what she did without his hacker expertise.

Nolan was eager and willing to help, he had no problem breaking the rules, and he did whatever Emily/Amanda wanted without question. And when he did ask questions, she trusted him enough to tell him the truth.

Nolan promised Emily/Amanda’s father that he would protect her no matter what, and not once did he stray from that promise.

Their bond was unbreakable; Nolan would risk his life for that girl in a heartbeat.

Peter Quinn Promo Still - Homeland
(Jim Fiscus/SHOWTIME)

Sidekicks are oftentimes loyal to a fault because of the friendships that they’ve built up with the lead.

Another example is Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) on Homeland, who remained loyal and true to Carrie until the very end.

In cliche terms, he was quite literally her “ride or die.” He was equally as compelling, and some would say, far more likable than Carrie as he radiated a quiet, stoic, strong presence.

There are times where sidekicks may be responsible for choices that put the main character on the right path.

Evan Lawson - Royal Pains
(USA Network)

This happens with Evan Lawson (Paulo Costanzo) from Royal Pains. Without Evan, the lead character, Hank, wouldn't have become a concierge doctor in the Hamptons. He is directly responsible for helping kickstart the business and finding the clients.

Many sidekicks complete and even complement the main character while also carving their own path.

Mo (Alex Newell) from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is Zoey’s neighbor and a fan-favorite that, dare I say, is liked more than Zoey at times.

On the surface, the gender nonconforming sidekick is witty and fun and gives magical advice, but the character's strengths lie in the moments when the series embraces deeper issues of faith and sexuality.

Zoey and Mo dancing - Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Season 1 Episode 2
(Sergei Bachlakov/NBC)

Not all sidekicks take themselves seriously. One of the most common secondary characters is the jokester that provides comedic relief with witty one-liners and zingers.

However, even a “funny” sidekick can steal the spotlight if done right.

Niles (Daniel Davis) from The Nanny was a butler who worked for the Sheffield family, but he’s revered for his snarky (and sometimes borderline cruel) comments towards C.C. Babcock.

His motivations come from a place of loyalty to not only the family but to the nanny named Fran.

It’s that protective and kind attitude that morphs him into one of the best characters on the series, though, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t also fans of the manipulative and diabolical attitude.

For nearly 30 years, DJ Tanner’s sidekick has been Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), the outlandish and wacky neighbor whose spirit perfectly compliments the straight-laced eldest Tanner daughter.

Through her eccentric personality, Kimmy has given more than just laughs, she’s provided the assurance that it’s okay to be different; she’s become the spirit animal of so many fans.

Steph and Kimmy - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

While she may be the butt of the joke, she’s also kindhearted, a good friend, and loyal to a fault. The Tanner family couldn’t live without her and neither could audiences.

In fact, she weaseled her way into fans’ hearts and became such a staple in the series that when Netflix rebooted the series, she secured a leading lady spot next to DJ and youngest sister, Stephanie Tanner.

Eric from Sex Education is hilarious, relatable, and comfortable in his own skin for the most part, which has made him a fan-favorite since the beginning.

A role that could have easily been one-dimensional became larger than, life thanks to Ncuti Gatwa’s portrayal and nuances.

Instead of being just comic relief, we see him struggle with many aspects of his life, including his identity as it intersects with his religion, his strict upbringing, and his heritage.

Stevie (Emily Hampshire) on Schitt's Creek started off as a snarky, can’t-be-bothered motel front-desk receptionist, but as the show progresses, she often brings more to the table than either of the Rose siblings.

Stevie on Schitt's Creek
(Netflix)

While she’s still as blunt and sarcastic as ever, she’s become family as she looks out for the Rose's and takes them under her wing.

She’s given the opportunity to shine on her own, which Hampshire utilizes to the fullest, giving audiences a deeper exploration of her character arc.

There are some sidekicks that are polar opposites of the main character, thus allowing for different perspectives and experiences the lead wouldn't otherwise have.

Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) on Boy Meets World was Cory’s best friend, but he couldn’t be more different than Cory; they were from two different sides of the track.

And yet, many fans loved and related to Shawn significantly more than they did to Cory.

Without Shawn and his antics, his angst, his popularity, and his bad boy with a heart of gold vibe, Cory wouldn't have experienced all of life's adventures or learned necessary lessons.

On Gilmore Girls, Paris Gellar (Liza Weil) is so smart that she's overbearing and intimidating most of the time, which tends to scare people away.

However, Rory stuck around even though the friendship was highly competitive at first, and eventually, their dynamic settled into a real friendship.

Though their personalities contrasted —  Rory was sweet, genuinely nice, and introverted while Paris was an overachiever and a little neurotic — they were a good balance for each other.

Paris even admitted that Rory is the only one who always listens to her and challenges her.

Maria DeLuca (Majandra Delfino) on the original Roswell was a lovable, quirky, and funny contrast to Liz. While she balanced her out well, she often stole the spotlight when she was in scenes.

It’s hard to imagine scenes without her, and the friendship they developed was a pivotal aspect of the series that carried it sometimes more than any of the romantic relationships.

Some sidekicks can’t help but steal the spotlight anytime they’re on-screen like Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) on Friday Night Lights.

It was obvious that Jason was supposed to be more of the lead in the first season while Riggins was set up as the stock lovable screw-up best friend. However, Riggins was often more compelling and overshadowed Jason right down to his chemistry with Jason's girlfriend.

Riggins - Friday Night Lights
(ABC Family)

When you think of “scene-stealers,” Rogelio de la Vega on Jane the Virgin always comes to mind. Debates about whether or not Jane was a worthy protagonist are aplenty, but the one thing everyone always agrees on is that Rogelio was the star of the show.

Why? Because he did such a great job convincing you of it.

He infused every scene with passion, drama, narcissism, and charm that became synonymous with his character. Jaime Camil didn’t just create a character, he created a world for his character to exist in that other characters, including the lead, visited occasionally.

He even offered a new vision of manhood as he tore down toxic masculinity and got in touch with his feminine and vulnerable side.

One Step Closer - Jane the Virgin
(Kevin Estrada/The CW)

Petra Solano (Yael Groblas) would be a close second simply for giving her character so much range and depth. Despite her flaws and misdeeds, which at times were ridiculously over the top, you connected with her and wanted to like her.

Even smaller sidekicks can make a big impact.

Andrew (Adam Capriolo) is the unsung hero on The Bold Type despite being a minor character.

In fact, fans love him so much that his presence on The Bold Type Season 4 has been increased, and his character has been given a subplot that takes him from Jacqueline’s nervewracking assistant by day to confident drag performer by night.

Time Out - The Bold Type Season 4 Episode 3
(Freeform/Laurent Guerin)

The shade he throws in his calculated and perfectly-timed one-liners is unmatched and easily provides some of the best moments in an episode.

Occasionally, sidekicks start off as an enemy but gain a protagonist’s trust by building up loyalty, much like Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) on Ozark.

The foul-mouthed and trash-talking teen is incredibly perceptive. Her character is intimidating, strong, and resourceful, but it’s the vulnerability that she’s weaved in under all of that which makes her performance explosive and suspenseful.

Marty draws praise for his ability to navigate any situation swiftly and calmly, sure, but Ruth has proven that she can keep up without skipping a beat due to survival instinct, and that spontaneity keeps catching you off guard even when you think you’ve got her figured out.

Ruth Langmore
(Netflix)

And finally, we get to the ensemble sidekicks, usually found in superhero shows or thriller dramas.

In fact, when I first said the term “sidekick,” I bet your brain immediately darted to the CW shows.

And for good reason. Supergirl relies on a whole team of intelligent beings to help her defeat the bad guys and protect the city.

She may be the woman of steel, but she needs the help of her super squad to mitigate destruction at every turn.

The team rushes into action to fight alongside her for the greater good even taking on their own superhero personas, including James Olsen’s “The Guardian” and Nia Nal’s “Dreamer.”

Winn Schott - Supergirl Season 5 Episode 13
(Katie Yu/The CW)

However, Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) stands out from the crop of characters because he’s the original sidekick.

His character development took him from the geeky co-worker in love with Kara to the tech-whiz who made her first suit at the DEO to the one who embraces his inner-superhero and travels to the future to save Earth.

He’s overcome so much and gained confidence thanks to the support of his friends, which made him a fan-favorite even long after he left the show.

You would think Batwoman would have been the star of her own show, but fans didn’t gravitate towards Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) as much as they did to her posse.

Sisters - Batwoman Season 1 Episode 20
(Bettina Strauss/The CW)

Instead, Batwoman Season 1 found its saving grace in her sidekicks, Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang), with the latter winning over the hearts of audiences.

Mary is multifaceted compared to Kate. On the surface, she’s a vain and bubbly socialite, but the more you get to know her, the more you realize she’s also hiding under a mask.

The writers flipped the classic “social media influencer” trope making Mary not only a loyal and good sister (even when Kate doesn’t deserve it), but also a selfless medical student who helps those who are turned away by a corrupt system created by her own family.

Mary Hamilton-Kane - Batwoman Season 1 Episode 7
(Michael Courtney/The CW)

The subtlety in Kang’s performance is the show’s sweet spot and the glue keeping audiences tuning in every week.

On Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4 Episode 4, Willow (Alyson Hannigan) said what we were all thinking: “I’m not your sidekick.”

Technically, Willow was Buffy’s right-hand gal, but she evolved into her own character that took her from a nerdy introvert to a powerful witch.

Willow - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
(The WB)

While Buffy needed the whole Scooby Gang to battle all the supernatural forces of evil in Sunnydale, the series became about the group's journey just as much as it was about hers. And Willow’s skills made her stand out as an integral part of the team and one who later battled her own demons.

On Scandal, Olivia Pope was the boss, but when she slipped up and forgot to put on her white hat, her Gladiators kept her accountable and stepped in to “handle it.”

While Abby (Darby Stanchfield) was the most loyal and consistent sidekick, everyone on the team brought something unique to the table that was needed to help spin stories, rig elections, and clean dirty political messes.

I'm Team Olivia AND Quinn! - Scandal Season 7 Episode 14
(ABC)

On Money Heist, the merry band of robbers need the Professor as much as he needs them. They've established an unspoken agreement — they risk their lives for him, and he does everything in his power to protect them and help them escape safely.

Berlin (Pedro Alonso) stands out amid the gang as the Professor’s half-brother, who takes on a leadership role throughout the first two seasons and dedicates himself wholeheartedly to the plan.

The Professor is the mastermind, but the plan would never come to fruition or end successfully without Berlin’s sacrifice, which is made by putting his team first and acknowledging his faults and demons.

Berlin manages to do something almost impossible on the Spanish-language series; he’s both the most-hated and most-loved character at the same time.

Berlin on Money Heist
(Netflix)

And that’s what makes a good sidekick — a character that supports the main character while never losing their own sense of identity and purpose.

If done right, the sidekick may unintentionally steal the spotlight and viewer’s hearts.

This list isn’t all-encompassing as there are too many good sidekicks to include! I could go on and on about all those who redefined the role of sidekicks on television, but that would require a much deeper character dive.

That being said, we’d love to hear who you would add to the list, TV Fanatics!  Let us know in the comments below!

The final season of Fuller House was bursting at the seams with emotion.

Many storylines reached natural conclusions, and the show's leading lady, Candace Cameron Bure, recently revealed that she was "bawling" during the last-ever installment.

Stephanie and Kimmy dropped the revelation that they would be moving out of the Tanner-Fuller-Gibbler household.

DJ made an emotional speech about how much everyone meant to her, but little did she know that Kimmy and Stephanie would later decide to stay behind.

That moment made Cameron Bure cry.

"It was totally a surprise when I read it at the table read," the actress revealed to TV Line

"Talk about getting all the feels. I was so sad that they were moving out as we were reading that script."

"The thought of the Fuller house being empty, or even just having one family in it, made me so sad. So when they came in at the very end, I started bawling. I was like, this is perfect. This is absolutely perfect."

The series finale was filled with great moments for fans of the series, which first started as Full House on ABC in the 1980s.

Joey McIntyre was forced to officiate the triple wedding after Pastor Tim had to drop out. There were also a lot of special guests at the wedding, including Candace Cameron Bure’s mom and aunt, and returning cast members.

It really did feel like the end of something great. Like, you would never be able to guess Full House ended a season earlier than planned.

We previously reported that Cameron Bure and the rest of the cast was surprised when Netflix opted to end the series after five seasons.

The actress was disappointed about the way some of the storylines played out as a result of the decision to end things.

"The fact that we didn't highlight Dani, Stephanie's baby, very much in season five, to me that was a bit disappointing," she said.

"We understand why they didn't [show Stephanie parenting], but that was something that I would have wanted to see in season six, her truly raising a baby."

She continued: "I would have liked to have seen a lot more storylines with the kids and particularly the babies because I think that's something that was so special in Full House."

Fuller House is officially over.

The hit Netflix comedy wrapped up with its fifth season last week.

However, it has now been revealed that there were plans for a sixth season, and Candace Cameron Bure has expressed her "disappointment" over it not being produced.

Netflix announced last year that the reboot of the hit ABC comedy would be wrapping up after its fifth season, despite rumors stating it was being canceled after Season 4.

Cameron Bure is opening up about certain storylines that did not get the time they deserved following the decision wrap up the series.

She continued: "I would have liked to have seen a lot more storylines with the kids and particularly the babies because I think that's something that was so special in Full House."

"You actually saw the stages and growth from an infant into a toddler."

Despite the cancellation, the cast and crew were left in the dark over why Netflix ultimately opted to end the show earlier than originally planned.

"We were thrilled that we had five," she said.

"I know there was some disappointment though that we didn't have the sixth season, but there are other network reasons, we aren't privy to that information, as to why they made that decision one season early."

Even though the series ended earlier, it did feature the wedding fans had been clamoring to see, and the show also addressed what became of Lori Loughlin's Aunt Becky.

The final ever episodes of Fuller House are here.

Netflix finally dropped the final nine episodes Tuesday, June 2, and while a lot of crazy things happened as the characters geared up for a wedding, many fans were only interested in what became of Aunt Becky.

As we've reported on multiple occasions, Lori Loughlin was ousted from the series following her part in the college admissions scandal.

As expected, Aunt Becky did not attend the wedding, but that's not to say she was not mentioned.

The penultimate episode focused on Uncle Jesse trying to deal with a problem with the couple's young daughter, Pamela.

The gang tried to find out who bit Pamela at school, prompting DJ to ask Jesse whether he should run his plan by Aunt Becky.

“Aunt Becky is in Nebraska helping out her mother,” Stamos’ character said in response. “I don’t want to bother her with a tiny little thing like this.”

DJ admitted that she didn't think Aunt Becky would want Jesse to get involved.

That was the first and only time that Becky was mentioned, however.

Her absence at DJ's triple wedding alongside Stephanie and Kimmy was not explained.

It's not exactly a good way to explain the off-screen developments of a character Loughlin has played on and off since 1988.

Naturally, fans will have some thoughts, but the show was backed into a corner when Loughlin's career combusted when her alleged part in the college admissions scandal came to light.

Off the screen, Loughlin maintained her innocence in the scandal … until recently. The actress recently pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud.

Loughlin faces time behind bars, and the actress lost her lucrative contract with Hallmark that included her role on When Calls the Heart, as well as her role on Garage Sale Mysteries.

It truly is the end of an era for the Full House franchise, because there's little to no chance the series will return again.

What are your thoughts on Aunt Becky's final mention?

It's almost time to say goodbye to Fuller House.

To reiterate that to fans, Netflix has dropped a brand new trailer for its farewell run, which is set to launch June 2.

As expected, the trailer for the sitcom’s final nine episodes zeroes in on D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) as they attempt to plan a triple wedding.

Danny (Bob Saget), Jesse (John Stamos), and Joey (Dave Coulier) are all spotted in the footage, but fans should not hold their breath for the return of Lori Loughlin as Aunt Becky.

There could be some details revealed by some of the other characters about the character, but time will tell.

In Fuller House, life can take you in unexpected directions and also into familiar territory when D.J. Tanner-Fuller finds herself living in her childhood home with younger sister and aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner and DJ’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler.

In Fuller House's fifth and final season, the Tanner childhood house is fuller than ever with DJ’s three boys, Stephanie's new baby, and Kimmy’s feisty family as the she-wolf pack prepares for a triple wedding and celebrates all of the memories that have led them there.

Fuller House stars Candace Cameron Bure as D.J. Tanner-Fuller, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner, Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler, Juan Pablo Di Pace as Fernando, Soni Nicole Bringas as Ramona, Michael Campion as Jackson, Elias Harger as Max, Dashiell and Fox Messitt Twins as Baby Tommy, Scott Weinger as Steve Hale, John Brotherton as Matt Harmon, and Ashley Liao as Lola.

Netflix confirmed it was ending Fuller House last year, revealing that it had been renewed for a fifth and final season.

There were reports ahead of that decision that the series was canceled following season 4, but when you have a show with characters who have been on the air for three decades, you need to give it a conclusive ending.

The original series aired from 1987-95 under the title full house, with Netflix bringing the show back as Fuller House in February 2016.

Fuller House will end for good this summer on Netflix.

The second half of the fifth and final season is set to debut Tuesday, June 2 around the world on the streamer.

Thee spinoff of Full House centers on recent widower D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure), a veterinarian and mother to three boys, who moves back to her childhood home in San Francisco.

Along with her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber), D.J. navigates motherhood and friendship in her new normal.

In the final episode of the first half of the final season, Steve (Scott Weinger) proposes to D.J., and Kimmy's ex-husband, Fernando (Juan Pablo Di Pace), re-proposes to her.

With Stephanie already engaged to Kimmy's brother, Jimmy (Adam Hagenbuch), the trio excitedly decide to throw an ambitious triple wedding.

Yes, really.

You read that right, it seems the series is going out with a triple wedding. You know what that means, right?

Several beloved characters will be staging comebacks for the final episodes.

Danny (Bob Saget), Uncle Jesse (John Stamos), and Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier) are all slated to return.

Lori Loughlin, who played Aunt Becky and is embroiled in the college admissions scandal, will not be back, but that doesn't mean we won't learn what became of Aunt Becky.

The series stars Candace Cameron Bure as D.J. Tanner-Fuller, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner, Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler, Michael Campion as Jackson Fuller, Elias Harger as Max Tanner, Dashiell and Fox Messitt as Tommy Gibbler Jr., Juan Pablo Di Pace as Fernando Hernandez-Guerrero-Fernandez-Guerrero, Scott Weinger as Steve Hale, John Brotherton as Matt Harmon, and Adam Hagenbuch as Jimmy Gibbler.

It really is the beginning of the end.

The spinoff series that tried to recapture the magic and balance the hilarity and heart of its predecessor will sign off sometime in 2020.

However, before that happens, the first nine episodes of Fuller House Season 5 will drop on Friday, Dec. 6, only on Netflix.

She-Wolf Pack - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

With the knowledge that Season 5 would be its final season, the series was allowed to set up its endgame, and it was greatly helped along by the 18-episode order.

If the series had tried to squeeze Season 5 into a shortened season, it would have suffered creatively.

While some subplots throughout the first nine episodes feel like filler, the extra room has allowed the series to breathe.

Steph smiles - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

One such subplot that may have not gotten the time it deserved during a shortened season is how the new baby affects all the characters at the Fuller-Tanner-Gibbler house.

Obviously, viewers would expect to see Steph’s struggles as a new mother and the challenges she faces, but other characters’ own adjustments to what it means to have a new baby in the house may have been overlooked.

Steph’s growth as she tries to balance what it means to be a new mother and fiancee, all without losing who she is, is one of the best aspects about these episodes.

Of all the characters, she has seen the most change from Fuller House Season 1.

Steph and DJ - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

Who was once a young, somewhat flaky, aunt with a passion for exotic travels has become a mature adult, ready to take on all motherhood has to offer.

However, just because Steph has grown, it doesn't mean things are going to be all sunshine and rainbows.

She still faces the same challenges most first-time moms deal with, but she is now at a point in her life where she is capable of tackling these issues with a somewhat level head.

Afterall, it wouldn't be a comedy is something didn't find a way to wrong.

Kimmy and Fernando - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

Besides Steph adjusting to motherhood, a prominent theme this season is love.

DJ and Steve are still together and going strong. Steph and Jimmy are newly engaged. And Kimmy and Fernando are either divorced, engaged, or both. With those two crazy kids adults, who knows?

All of those relationships are pretty much status quo, though the pairs do find some things to be at odds over.

These conflicts, though, are par for the course when it comes to comedy, and nothing nervous fans should worry about.

DJ and Steve - Fuller House
(Netflix)

After four seasons, it seems the writers have decided to let everyone be relatively happy, instead of scrambling to break couples up in the 11th hour and trying to get them back together in time for the series finale.

It's a refreshing that these couples can just enjoy the ride to the finish line rather than sprinting there out of breath.

There are, of course, plenty of shenanigans afoot, some funnier than others, but mostly everything neatly resolves in a timely manner.

While this means that whatever conflicts arise during an episode are resolved in that same installment, I'd rather have blissful enjoyment than constant frustration.

Firefly

However, it's not just the adults that get some swoon-worthy moments, as both Jackson and Romona find themselves venturing into the dating scene.

While both teenagers have been in romantic relationships before, this is the first time it's more than just calling someone your boyfriend or girlfriend and holding hands as you walk to class.

Jackson and Ramona are on the precipice of "teen drama-dom."

While viewers shouldn't expect any scenes as sexually explicit as teen dramas on The CW or Freeform, there is some exploration of what it means to be a teen dating in this day and age.

Jackson and Ramona - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

Something else that is especially different this season is the lack of screen time devoted to Danny, Joey, and Jesse.

Danny, played by Bob Saget, is only present for two episodes, while Joey and Jesse, played by Dave Coulier and John Stamos, respectively, only appear in one a piece.

And yes, that episode in question is the one that sees the two as dance partners, as teased by the Netflix’s latest promo.

Becky is also missing, though her absence is easier to explain.

Becky - Fuller House
(Adam Rose / Netflix)

As previously reported by multiple news outlets, Lori Laughlin’s Aunt Becky isn't to return for Fuller House’s fifth and final season due to her alleged role in a wide-ranging college admissions bribery scandal.

Hopefully, I won’t get trolled for saying this, but the series works better when it just focuses on the Fuller-Tanner-Gibbler household.

The premise of the series was about Steph and Kimmy moving in to help DJ raise her three boys after her husband died in fire.

The series was never supposed to largely focus on the older cast, yet the first few seasons saw the writers desperately trying to include them in new ways.

Danny and Joey - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

The storyline with Jesse and Becky adopting their daughter was especially problematic, as it felt completely out of place.

What was also annoying was how the older Full House cast members would “casually” drop by for some inane reason, such as babysitting, when it made no logical sense to the story.

What did, and continues to work, is Danny, Joey, Jesse, and Becky showing up for important events, such as holidays, weddings, and births.

It feels more organic and provides the right amount of nostalgia without feeling forced.

Steph and Kimmy - Fuller House
(Michael Yarish / Netflix)

Some viewers may disagree with me and only watch the rebooted series to see them.

If that is the case, you’re probably not going to be very happy about their limited, or nonexistent screen time, and may want to avoid the middle episodes altogether.

However, there are several delightful Easter eggs placed throughout the episodes, and some very hilarious meta moments, though that may not be enough to entice hesitant viewers.

Last Night in Pawnee

Some stray thoughts:

  • There's a great subplot involving the guys that shakes up the character dynamics. For the past several seasons, there have been two established bromances: Steve/Matt and Fernando/Jimmy.

With this being Fuller House's final season, it's nice to see the writers try something new and unexpected, and while the circumstances that bring the guys together is somewhat crazy, it's pretty enjoyable if viewers suspend their disbelief a little.

  • For curious viewers, there are some great dance sequences throughout the first nine episodes, and I'm not sure what's my favorite. (OK, I do know, but I can't say yet.)

  • There are two significant cameos with actors playing versions of themselves. Keen viewers who watched the promo should know who one of them is. All I'll say is one was pretty great, while the other was a bit of a stretch.

In conclusion: Fuller House Season 5A is a fun ride for those who can get behind the increased focus on the Fuller-Tanner-Gibbler household and don't hold the series to the unreasonable standards set by Full House.

Fuller House Season 5A drops on Netflix today.

There's been all kinds of new developments for our favorite 'ships this year, but some couples still aren't where we hoped they would be.

2019 is coming to a close, and we're still waiting for a few of our favorite pairings to walk down the aisle.

We created a list below of 17 couples who need to tie the knot in 2020!

Amy and Jonah – Superstore

Simmosa - Tall - Superstore Season 5 Episode 7
(Eddy Chen/NBC)

It's no secret that fans are ready for Amy and Jonah to take the next step in their relationship.

Superstore Season 5 may not be doing much to highlight the couple, but a proposal could easily get things back on track.

We'll do just about anything to see a Simmosa wedding, at this point.

Jared and Mic – Manifest

The two were previously engaged until Michaela's plane disappeared, and everyone on it was presumed dead.

Given that no time had passed for the passengers, it was a bit shocking for Michaela to realize that Jared had moved on with her best friend.

But even after all that time, Jared and Mic's connection is still undeniable. We have hope that a marriage will still be possible between them in 2020.

DJ and Steve – Fuller House

With the series returning for its final season in December, it's about time that DJ and Steve get their happy ending.

The couple's love story has been going on ever since the 90's, and it would be a shame if a wedding between them didn't happen.

Regardless of whether you ship them or not, there's no denying that a marriage between them is inevitable.

Wesley and Angela – The Rookie

After Wesley's near-death experience, Wesley's importance to Angela became more clear than ever.

They may spend a lot of their time fighting, but they are, surprisingly, the most stable couple on The Rookie.

We can't imagine a marriage between them being easy, but we also can't imagine it ever being boring.

Chidi and Eleanor – The Good Place

Late Night Study Session - The Good Place Season 4 Episode 9
(Colleen Hayes/NBC)

The final episodes may not air until early 2020, but what better way to end The Good Place than with a Cheleanor wedding in the afterlife?

Chidi and Eleanor have been in love for centuries, yet throughout all of the reboots, we've never seen a wedding.

After everything they've been through together, they deserve the opportunity to celebrate their love.

Nic and Conrad – The Resident

Nic and Conrad need to keep moving forward, or call things quits, once and for all.

Now that they've finally moved in together and seem to be in a stable place for the first time on the show, it only seems fitting that marriage is next on the agenda.

Lucifer and Chloe – Lucifer

Lucifer and Chloe have been through so much that it would be a disservice to both them and fans if they didn't get some kind of suitable ending.

While we're not sure if the devil is looking to get married, Chloe has been a gamechanger since the beginning.

A wedding between them may not be realistic, but we've still got our fingers crossed.

Gary and Maggie – A Million Little Things

They may be navigating the growing pains of living together, but there's no doubt that they're meant to be together long term.

We would be one hundred percent on board if they decided to get engaged this season.

Ruzek and Burgess – Chicago PD

It may be an unpopular opinion, but Ruzek and Burgess have been trying to find their way back to each other for years.

It would be a shame if everything they went through was for nothing.

They shared an emotional moment during the latest crossover, and it would be nice to see a Chicago PD wedding.

Liza and Charles or Liza and Josh – Younger

Sorry Liza, but your time's up. It's time to pick a man and commit to them once and for all.

Charles proposed to Liza at the end of Younger Season 6, but it was clear that she was still harboring feelings for her ex-boyfriend, Josh.

It doesn't matter which one you choose, but pick one in 2020, so we can move passed this wretched love triangle.

Liam and Fallon – Dynasty

Fallon proposed adorably, and everything was perfect. But after Liam was hurt by Fallon's brother, Adam, Liam suffered from memory loss.

Things are more complicated than we ever could have imagined, but we still have faith that they'll get the wedding they deserve.

Trish and Arthur – God Friended Me

Unfortunatly, there were some complications with Trish and Arthur's engagement.

Trish may have left town to find herself since Arthur's dedication to the church was more than she could handle, but there's no doubt that these two love each other and will eventually make it work.

Amelia and Link – Grey's Anatomy

They're having a baby together, and they're absolutely perfect for each other.

There's no reason for Amelia and Link not to close out the year with a wedding. Usually, people on Grey's get married too fast.

So what's the holdup? Get a move on, you two!

Jason and Janet – The Good Place

Jason and Janet may have gotten married in the first reboot, but does that still count once they had all their memories erased?

They've also come a long way from The Good Place Season 1, and their feelings for each other have grown as a result.

Why not have a double wedding with Chidi and Eleanor?

Sutton and Richard – The Bold Type

(Freeform/Philippe Bosse)

Sutton and Richard have been a constant ever since the beginning of the series.

Now that they've officially moved in together and are having discussions about the future, the wedding bells are ringing louder than ever before.

Anne and Gilbert – Anne With An E

The show might have been canceled by Netflix and CBC, but we know better than to underestimate the power of a devoted fanbase.

With millions of tweets already demanding the renewal of the show, we're not counting it out just yet.

If a fourth season or a wrap-up movie does happen, there's no doubt that a wedding between Anne and Gilbert needs to be included.

Liz and Max – Roswell, New Mexico

Max may have died at the end of Roswell, New Mexico Season 1, but it's hard to believe that'll stick.

The love between this couple is undeniable, and while they haven't been dating long, Max has been in love with Liz for the last decade.

If he is resurrected, these two need to take their relationship to the next level.
