The CW on Tuesday went public with its Summer 2023 schedule, and it's as acquisition-heavy as expected.

Family Law Season 2 is kicking things off on Friday, July 7, leading into the series premiere of Moonshine.

Family Law had a decent audience on the network last year, so bringing it back was a no-brainer.

Monday will be reserved for the acquired comedy series, with Son of a Critch, Children Ruin Everything, Run the Burbs, and Bump airing on the night.

In anticipation of FBoy Island's premiere on the network with originals in the fall, The CW will air episodes of Fboy Island Season 2.

As previously reported, The CW has also ordered FGirl Island.

All things considered, the schedule is a bit uneventful, and that's the tricky part of having few original series.

The CW's actual test will be how viewers warm to the network's new strategy.

The genre fare that has kept the lights on since the network's beginning.

On Family Law Season 1 Episode 10, Abby suspects medical malpractice at a fertility clinic when Nina and her dad learn they aren't related. Our review!

Legacy. Every parent dreams of creating something to pass down to their children.

Family Law Season 1 Episode 10 explored two different fathers, Bryan Beasley and Harry Svensson, and their relationships with their children. It asked whether nature vs. nurture was more critical in a controversial case.

As someone who studied psychology and was adopted, this was a fascinating debate to me. Children thrive and grow up to be similar to the parents that raised them.

Harry's Legacy - Family Law
(Darko Sikman/eOne)

Why are these DNA kits so popular? Bryan thought he and Nina would find more cousins, yet that kit only showed they weren't related, leading to drama in the finale.

While Bryan Beasley has seemed over the top at times, he's always shown love toward Nina and would do anything to keep her happy. Finding out the truth was pivotal.

I loved how Abby took charge of finding out the truth. From the beginning, she didn't trust Dr. Doug or the stories he spun of an unreliable assistant 20 years ago. She used her gut instinct and got his takeout box tested for DNA.

Bryan and Nina are such happy, easy-going people that it was heartbreaking to see them fall apart that Dr. Doug was Nina's biological father. Bryan fell apart so much that he annoyed Harry by crying continuously in his office.

Lucy: Poor Bryan. I could have sworn they were related. They are so much alike.

Abby: One point for nurture.

Harry: Yes, but nature always takes precedence over nurture.

🔗 permalink: Yes, but nature always takes precedence over nurture.

Bryan felt like his life was ruined, mainly when Dr. Doug insinuated that his wife cheated on him to have a baby. Bryan couldn't believe that reality.

Bryan: My whole life was a lie!

Since Harry's arch-rival, Phil Sterling was defending Dr. Doug, Abby was more determined to find out the truth and nail them both. Dr. Doug displayed baby photos like other people hung achievement awards. They were like his creepy accomplishments.

This made Abby suspicious, and she wanted to lead a class action suit since she suspected he had done this to other women too. This case has taken a toll on Nina and Bryan, who don't know how to act around each other. Nina isn't sure he's her dad anymore.

Abby: I share 50 percent of my DNA with my father, and trust me, what you and Bryan have is so much better.

🔗 permalink: I share 50 percent of my DNA with my father, and trust me, what you and Bryan have is so much…

After some convincing, Nina and Bryan agreed to be plaintiffs. Daniel made their case sound heartfelt with how Nina just found out, but Phil Sterling moved to dismiss it, saying Bryan was bitter his wife had an affair.

Don't be quick to discount Daniel and Abby. They pulled a rabbit out of their hat, and the judge was displeased.

Daniel: Perhaps I wasn’t clear, Your Honor. I don’t have them on me because the plaintiffs wanted to deliver them themselves.

🔗 permalink: Perhaps I wasn’t clear, Your Honor. I don’t have them on me because the plaintiffs wanted to…

Many plaintiffs walked in, and then Abby showed more victims on screen. They hit the jackpot when Nina admitted she didn't know who she could date because they might be related.

However, she broke down because she had a fantastic dad all her life, and now that belief was broken. Thankfully, both she and Bryan realized how much they meant to each other.

Nina: I don’t even know if I can call this awesome man Dad anymore. I don’t know if this really awesome man will be able to love me anymore.

While nurture reigned supreme in this case, Harry and Abby finally recognized that they were more alike than they thought and everyone, including Jerri, Daniel, and Lucy, knew it. Both were career-driven, stubborn, and could drive a hard bargain.

Daniel: You’re more like Harry than Lucy, and I put together.

🔗 permalink: You’re more like Harry than Lucy, and I put together.

Even though Harry hadn't raised Abby, she was the fiercest and most passionate of his children in the courtroom. He was determined to keep her at the firm, but she drove an even harder bargain — a raise for her and a partnership for Daniel.

How will that affect things when Daniel learns his sister had to bargain for him? She didn't want him to leave the firm and to have to work with some other jerk.

Abby: Are you leaving because of me or because of Harry?

Daniel: While working with you has been a career lowlight, it’s mostly because of Harry.

Abby: I’ll miss you.

Daniel: Really?

Abby: No, but at least you’re the dickhead I know and not some dickhead jr. Didn’t you think Harry would replace you?

🔗 permalink: No, but at least you’re the dickhead I know and not some dickhead jr. Didn’t you think Harry…

Unfortunately, Abby also married someone like her dad. Frank was charming and had a wandering eye, which this time Nico caught on some incriminating texts.

Since her mom died as a child, Lucy has been craving connection. While she has a better relationship with Harry than her siblings, she wants her own family. In some ways, it made sense that when her dad disappointed her, she decided she and Maggie should have a baby.

With everything that happened with Nina and Bryan, Lucy worried she wouldn't form the same connection with the baby that Maggie would from being pregnant for nine months and breastfeeding their child. She also craved an intimate relationship.

Needing connection was why Lucy probably got married too young, and then Maggie was always working, and Lucy became lonely. She craved connection since she was young, and a fling was uncomplicated.

She never counted on Asha spilling the beans to Maggie and leaving her. With nowhere else to go, she ended up at Abby's and probably saved her since Abby almost drank because of her marital issues.

Family Law thrived when it focused on the dysfunctional relationships among the Svenssons. Harry had complicated relationships with each of his adult children, and we've only started to scratch the surface of the reasons why.

Family Law Season 1 featured Abby's issues primarily, but we started learning more about Daniel and Lucy's personal lives and what motivated them to make certain decisions. Hopefully, they'll expand on that, too, in Season 2.

While current issues are important, the series thrived when it covered relatable topics such as Alzheimer's Disease, adoption, or the hardships of motherhood versus vaccines, which most of us are tired of reading or watching media about.

We all relate to family issues, so when they covered them seriously, we empathized with the case or one of the Svenssons

Bryan got Nina a DNA kit for her birthday. They weren't expecting it to say they weren't related.

Abby visited Dr. Doug and had his DNA tested. She dreaded telling Bryan and Nina the truth.

Dr. Doug and his lawyer make it seem like he had an affair with Bryan's wife.

Harry feels like he has to choose between Crystal and the kids.

Abby suspects that Dr. Doug has been artificially inseminating women without their knowledge. She took photos of the babies in the doctor's office.

Abby goes to bat for Daniel and tells Harry she wants a raise, too, since this is a good case. Harry offers Daniel a partnership, and Abby will co-counsel the case.

Daniel explains why they are suing Dr. Doug, and then he walks in more plaintiffs, and Abby shows more on the screen.

Nina hates that part of her comes from Dr. Doug, and she's not sure Bryan loves her anymore.

Abby wants to put Dr. Doug on the stand. He slips and admits he did it to give those women families. Abby says he's not a father since a father cares for their kids.

Harry decides to stay with Crystal since she likes him. Harry asks Abby to stay at the firm.

Maggie learns Asha and Lucy were having a long-term affair and leaves Lucy.

Nico saw a text from Felicity to Frank. Abby caught them at a restaurant. As she was about to drink, Lucy showed up in tears about her marital problems.

On Family Law Season 1 Episode 9. Abby and Daniel helped an estranged mom and daughters reconnect, and Harry made a horrific blunder in a speech. Our Review!

Mother and daughter relationships are complicated.

Family Law Season 1 Episode 9 revealed the deep family secrets between Carole and her daughters Trish and Kim. The case triggered Abby and how she felt people saw her relationship with her mom, Joanne.

When the series focuses on dysfunctional and relatable family issues, it delivers. This was another gut-puncher that made you cry. They need to stick to these types of episodes instead of the modern-thinking political ones.

Mothers & Daughters - Family Law
(Darko Sikman/eOne)

While mother and daughter relationships are always complicated, this one hurts. Trish and Kim's mom Carole sued them for parental support. The sisters claimed she was cold and abusive, but their mom came in asking about her grandkids.

Abby and Daniel knew this case would be challenging, and their saving grace would be that Carole's lawyer, Clark, was a bumbling idiot who didn't know how to present a case or ask questions.

Trish: Maybe she should move to a cheaper town.

Carole: My home is here with family and friends.

Trish: What family and friends? You’ve alienated all of them.

🔗 permalink: What family and friends? You’ve alienated all of them.

Trish had many stories of times her mom was cruel and unfair, including when she threw their only Barbie in the fire because she thought her daughters were spoiled.

As time went on, it became evident that Trish remembered the brunt of it, from being hit with a toy car to being locked in the basement with only a sleeping bag, a bucket, and water. She thought her mother was cruel.

It didn't mean Kim thought her mom was perfect. She just tried to feel some compassion, though her cutting remarks about her weight and that she was lucky to find a husband stung.

Kim didn't cut Carole out of her life until she started making comments about her daughter's weight too. That was the final straw.

Kim's Perspective - Family Law Season 1 Episode 9
(Family Law Global TV Twitter Screenshot)

It's often hard for kids of abuse and neglect to know any difference, and they still love their parents. There is comfort in consistency. While Trish wasn't willing to give an inch, Kim still felt compassion for their mother.

Deep family secrets were exposed, including how the trauma caused Trish to become an addict. Instead of being grateful that her mom paid for rehab, Trish scoffed at the old amends card, saying she had to write it.

Trish was so full of anger and hatred that it was doubtful she'd ever forgive her mother or see a different point of view.

In some ways, Abby thought they should settle too. Since she was raised by a single mom and was now a single mom, she understood the hardships and challenges of single parenting. However, Abby wanted to please her clients, so she dug into Carole's past.

No one ever expected to learn that Jim, Carol's ex-husband, only died recently, and he was a violent alcoholic. She divorced him because he threw the toy that hit Trish in the head.

She made many mistakes with her daughters, but she never wanted them to grow up with a father that didn't want them. At that moment, we saw a tired mother who tried her best and hoped to make amends with her daughters.

Kim looked amenable, but Trish only saw her parents as monsters. Abby was the one that convinced her to help her mom financially and see her mom.

It won't be easy, but this family may have a chance with the truth out there.

We saw Harry show compassion one of the few times during Family Law Season 1. We've heard he favored Lucy and loved her, so it was nice to see him comfort her and acknowledge that he missed her mom too.

As Lucy missed her mom, it was more complicated than usual for her to watch her siblings' trade barbs about their mothers since even though theirs weren't perfect, they were alive.

Abby: Every parent has ugly moments.

Daniel: Yours was on YouTube.

Lucy: Daniel.

Daniel: To be fair, you didn’t have the best role models.

🔗 permalink: To be fair, you didn’t have the best role models.

Poor Lucy must have been used to Harry letting her down. She reminded him throughout the week, and he still failed to show up at their special spot.

No wonder Lucy gravitated toward Maggie and married early. She's the one person who didn't let her down. Is having a baby going to solve their problems, though?

Off the Rails - Family Law Season 1 Episode 9
(Global TV (Screenshot))

The side story with Harry showed how old-school he was. Harry thought he was honoring women by setting up a scholarship fund for future female lawyers, but he made things worse with his sexist remarks. The sad part was he didn't think they were wrong.

To men of Harry's generation, there was nothing wrong with commenting on a women's looks, and he thought everyone overreacted. He didn't understand why he couldn't talk to the press or everyone wanted him to apologize.

Harry: You want a statement? I’ve always been a staunch reporter of women. I know how important it is to level the playing field. When did we as a society decide it was no longer appropriate to recognize beauty?

🔗 permalink: You want a statement? I’ve always been a staunch reporter of women. I know how important it…

Jerri and the girls were so desperate since Harry wouldn't budge and the law firm was losing clients that they called in Danielle, a professional, to help. Even though she had issues with Daniel, she came to help Harry.

The damage was done, though. The general public had also heard about Harry's new romance with Crystal Steel, and they hated it even more than his kids did.

Making Things Worse - Family Law Season 1 Episode 9
(Global TV (Screenshot))

Final Thoughts:

 • Jerri was a tough mama bear demanding that Harry's children be at his speech, regardless of how they felt about him. She is the glue between the law firm and the family; hopefully, we will learn more about her family.

 • While Daniel and Abby work well together at the law firm, Daniel has a legitimate reason for leaving, and maybe if he plays hardball, Harry will appreciate him more.

 • Harry ultimately will have to decide between Crystal and his career and his kids. That's unfair, but she's not good for his image.

The Svenssons covered another controversial case –vaccinations.

Sometimes, I think the term "family law" is used loosely since all these cases concern families. Some used the shock and awe factor more.

An old friend of Abby's, Elaine, needed a lawyer on Family Law Season 1 Episode 8 because her ex-husband demanded their daughter get vaccinated.

Since the pandemic began in 2020, there have been debates about vaccines. Generally, we watch television to escape, so it was tiresome to watch a fictional court case debate an issue we've been hearing about for over two years.

While taking from current events was understandable, it's sometimes too much.

Elaine was so outspoken. While she had a point that her daughter Talia should say goodbye to her grandpa in Germany before he died, her ex only wanted Talia vaccinated before they traveled.

Abby: So she’s not vaccinated yet?

Elaine: I would never let my child be injected with that poison.

🔗 permalink: I would never let my child be injected with that poison.

While Abby didn't seem thrilled with this case, she and Harry agreed that everyone deserved representation. Daniel seemed hostile to Elaine from the beginning and made it clear he didn't want to be there.

Daniel thought Elaine should get Talia vaccinated and save everyone the hassle of a court case. Elaine was convinced her ex-husband wanted to keep controlling her and admitted her baby sister died after getting vaccinated, so she couldn't bear to lose her daughter.

Daniel: How can you be friends with an anti-vaxxer?

Abby: Don’t call her that!

🔗 permalink: Don’t call her that!

(Darko Sikman/eOne)

Since Daniel refused to help, Abby took Cecil with her to get information from the only doctor they could find with an anti-vax position. Abby only wanted to use his research on how vaccinations aggravate eczema and autoimmune disorders.

Cecil took his research to heart and was worried that his vaccinations may have caused his learning delays. As Abby reassured him that science and vaccinations were safe, you could tell she was fed up with this case too.

Even though Abby didn't feel comfortable with this case, she wanted to win, especially when she was pitted against Frank again and had the judge who witnessed her drunken incident in court.

Abby presented evidence that they were considering the child and didn't want Talia's eczema to worsen and that she needed to say goodbye to her dying grandpa.

Things got messy as soon as the judge granted that Elaine and Talia could travel to Germany if they stayed away from the measles outbreak. I felt for Talia watching her parents fight over her like a ping-pong ball.

Abby tried to stop it since she learned how her children felt during her separation.

To make matters worse, when Frank appealed the case, this time Elaine's ex-husband won, but she maintained that everyone was against her when Abby tried to reason with her.

Abby: Just get her vaccinated, Elaine. I know it’s scary. Then, take her to see her Opa.

Elaine: How could you? How dare you? You’re supposed to be on my side.

🔗 permalink: How could you? How dare you? You’re supposed to be on my side.

Boundaries - Family Law Season 1 Episode 8
(Global TV Screenshot)

Abby had to set some boundaries, even if it meant losing a friend. She understood that it's difficult having your parenting choices questioned, but you have to do what's best for your child.

Elaine: I can’t kidnap my own daughter!

Abby: For once, we’ll disagree. You’ll lose custody. How much help do you think you’ll be to Talia from a jail cell?

🔗 permalink: For once, we’ll disagree. You’ll lose custody. How much help do you think you’ll be to Talia…

When Elaine tried to run off to Germany with Talia, that was violating a custody plan. Elaine wasn't thinking straight, and she was lucky her daughter and ex-husband were more mature than she was.

Her extreme views could have cost her her family.

A New Offer - Family Law Season 1 Episode 8
(Darko Sikman/eOne)

Since Harry hadn't named Daniel partner in the firm yet and kept handing Abby more responsibility, Daniel made everyone's lives miserable. While some of it was understandable, he acted like a sulky teenager around his siblings.

Harry: I won’t coddle him.

While Harry seemed to favor his daughters, giving Abby more cases even though she was on probation, Harry also valued money. He might have accepted Crystal or Elaine's claims even though he disagreed with them if it brought the firm cash.

Abby: You’ve been completely unprofessional!

Daniel: I’ve been unprofessional? You violate our code of conduct on a daily basis. You showed up to court drunk. You changed the entire culture of our firm. Ever since you’ve arrived, I hate coming to the office. We defend the Crystal Steele’s of the world now and the anti-vaxxers.

Even though Daniel has worked at the firm a long time, Harry tried to meet him halfway by offering him a compromise and suggesting they revisit the promotion. Hopefully, this father and son can repair their relationship.

Surprisingly, Nico was the problem child this time. He got caught using Harry's calligraphy pen and forging signatures at school.

It almost seemed like Abby and Frank didn't take it seriously. Nico served his suspension at the Svensson law offices, playing cards with Nina.

Grandpa Harry almost beamed with pride at his grandson's business skills when he heard Nico charged money per a signature.

Harry: It’s not easy to forge a signature. That’s a real talent.

🔗 permalink: It’s not easy to forge a signature. That’s a real talent.

However, Abby and Frank agreed that they needed to parent jointly from now on after that incident. I wonder if Nico did it to get the attention of both parents and spend more time with his mom.

Maggie and Lucy's marriage included so many issues, and I don't see it lasting. They were raised with different values, such as Maggie looking at Lucy's cell phone. Even married couples should have some privacy.

While Lucy was freaked out about Maggie seeing texts from Asha, there still needed to be some privacy. Do married couples share their passcodes for everything? I don't.

When Lucy needed advice, Abby softened and admitted it was best to find out about a one-night stand from her partner. It hurts worse any other way.

Abby: I would have found out. These things always come out eventually.

🔗 permalink: I would have found out. These things always come out eventually.

Lucy couldn't help herself. She only told half the truth –that she met a woman at the bar, and they kissed.

As soon as she saw how heartbroken Maggie looked, Lucy pretended that was all that happened. Lucy seemed like she was afraid of commitment as Daniel was. She's the one that is married, but she still enjoys going to clubs more than staying home.

It almost sounded like Lucy and Maggie got married too young. Hopefully, they can find a happy medium of interests they both enjoy, or their relationship may be doomed.

It's headed for disaster since they ran into Asha at the beach, and Lucy pretended they were acquaintances.

Every time they are together, they ooze chemistry. How long will their affair stay a secret?

Over to you, Family Law Fanatics. What were your thoughts on Elaine's case? Will Daniel ever become partner?

Will Lucy and Maggie's marriage survive when Maggie learns the truth? Chime in below in the comments.

Our review.

Talk about a heated political case.

Family Law Season 1 Episode 7 aired in the United States the weekend after Election Tuesday, and the main case became heated. Seeing Bailey defend his relationship against the Steeles was frustrating.

Crystal Steele was very vocal about traditional marriage and felt you couldn't be honest for fear of upsetting an ultrasensitive, politically correct bubble. She ridiculed LGBTQ people on her show, so she wouldn't admit to being in a polyamorous relationship.

This case was the most political-themed one the series has done so far. I'm unsure if it worked with how divided the country is currently on LGBTQ views and abortion.

Crystal used to teach high school, but she was fired for imposing her pro-life views on her students. Now she runs her talk show and imposes her beliefs on everyone.

Bailey - Family Law Season 1 Episode 7
(Global TV Screenshot)

Crystal tried hard to squash Bailey like a bug and pay him off with $50,000 and a statement saying he was only their tenant.

It was hard not to feel sympathy for him since he thought he was in a common-law marriage, and they threw him away,

Abby: Bailey, as your lawyers, we advise you to sign this. If you have student loans, you can pay them off and start painting again.

Bailey: How can you pretend something didn’t happen? I’d be signing a lie.

🔗 permalink: How can you pretend something didn’t happen? I’d be signing a lie.

The case may have gone in the Steele's favor, but Crystal made innuendos about Jerri being trans and needing a gender-neutral bathroom. I credit the series for implementing something current like that into this episode.

However, making cracks about Jerri to Abby didn't go well. Jerri is the one person who always defends Abby, so she does the same for her.

While defending Jerri, Abby and Nina informed Crystal Bailey would never sign that statement.

While Abby went too far, she and Bailey didn't deserve the aftermath.

Harry: Crystal Steele has built a career by getting a rise out of everybody. You need to keep a cooler head.

Crystal and her followers declared war putting many people's lives at risk. It should have been treated even more seriously than it was.

Seeing stinkbombs go off at the office was terrifying, but the worst was having Abby, and Daniel's info leaked. This threat put not only them but Abby's kids in danger.

Stinkbomb - Family Law Season 1 Episode 7
(Family Law Global TV Screenshot)

Since the threat was real, Frank and the kids moved back in with Abby and her mom, where tensions ran high. They only did this to give Frank and Abby another chance, but they have no chemistry and too many issues.

When the threats escalated to gang rape threats, and Bailey's studio was vandalized, Abby and Daniel decided they needed to take action and find the Steele's weak spot.

Everyone assumed Crystal was leading these polyamorous relationships, but the lawyers discovered that Gavin had a weak spot for young men and was still in the closet.

With Crystal Steele's marriage platform, her reputation would be ruined, so she quickly got rid of the boy toys. But Bailey was more difficult since there was a genuine connection.

Abby: There are photos, photos of the two of you together?

Bailey: He probably destroyed those. You heard them. I was their tenant. I think I wanted an excuse to see him one more time. Maybe that’s why I came to you to see if he’s hurting like I am. So selfish, right?

Abby: Not really. You needed to know what you had was real.

🔗 permalink: Not really. You needed to know what you had was real.

Crystal played her hand well, and the Svennsons were forced to drop the case. However, Abby laid on the guilt for making Gavin feel uncomfortable.

Abby: He can’t do that anymore anyway. He’s flat broke. He’s going to have to get a serving job. He doesn’t have physical proof of your relationship, and it’s not worth risking his life. Congratulations, I guess.

🔗 permalink: He can’t do that anymore anyway. He’s flat broke. He’s going to have to get a serving job. He…

Once Gavin produced the photos, Crystal lost her husband and money to Bailey. But who won?

Was it Cavin since he's out freely, or did Crystal lose since her husband cheated on her with other men? This case was a complicated, political one.

Standing Up for Herself - Family Law Season 1 Episode 7
(Global TV Screenshot)

Jerri hasn't had her storyline. She's usually supporting Harry or one of the kids.

However, we finally got to see her spunk and see her take on an adversary in Crystal Steele. She originally wanted to play fair, but after watching her action, Jerri took her on.

Being trans does not mean you're mentally ill or that anything is wrong with you; what Crystal Steele stated was harmful.

Jerri: Of course not. Feeding stereotypes that endanger people’s lives, why would I take that personally?

🔗 permalink: Of course not. Feeding stereotypes that endanger people’s lives, why would I take that…

Jerri always speaks her mind, so I hope we learn more about her story. She's one of the most exciting people on the series.

Lucy dealt with issues with both of her siblings. Since Abby witnessed Lucy kissing another woman at the bar, she kept dropping hints of her cheating.

This secret destroyed the progress they made in their sisterly bond. I was hoping Abby would listen to Lucy, but she still feels betrayed by Frank cheating on her, ever to give a cheater a chance. So much for sisterly bonding.

Lucy wasn't faring much better with Daniel. In some ways, he blamed her for butting in about his relationship with Danielle and hedging bets that it would fail.

Lucy had always been close to Daniel, so she felt incredibly lonely seeing Daniel and Abby growing closer.

Abby & Daniel - Family Law Season 1 Episode 7
(Global TV Screenshot)

This episode was the first one in which Daniel and Abby acted like real siblings and showed compassion toward one another.

Danielle seemed genuinely concerned that the threats could affect his niece and nephew and told Abby she could step down if needed.

Daniel: I don’t have kids to worry about Abby, so if you want to step away from this case, I’ll understand.

Abby: Thank you, but I need to see this through. I’m part of the reason we’re in this mess.

🔗 permalink: Thank you, but I need to see this through. I’m part of the reason we’re in this mess.

The gay bar scene was funny and heartfelt. Daniel hadn't been flirted with in so long that he enjoyed the gay bartender's attention. Abby reminded him he could call Danielle and make amends.

It's a shame just as Daniel and Abby were toasting their victory that, Harry wrecked their relationship by asking Abby to be his second-in-command on a new case. He knew how badly Daniel wanted his approval.

On Family Law Season 1 Episode 6, when Ajay &Jane change their mind about adopting Kirin, Abby realizes and supports Jane when she decides to keep him. Our review!

The post Family Law Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Baby Off Board appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
The heartwrenching cases during National Adoption Month continue.

Watching the prospective adoptive birth parents and the birth mom argue over Kirin's fate on Family Law Season 1 Episode 6 tugged at our heartstrings.

This wasn't a typical adoption case either. Kirin was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, prompting Ajay and Jane to want to give the baby back.

Justice for Jane - Family Law Season 1 Episode 6
(Darko Sikman/eOne)

We've seen this story before where prospective adoptive parents worry the child's medical condition will be too much for them. As someone who was adopted as a baby, this breaks my heart.

My adoptive parents discovered I had certain medical conditions when I was an infant, and they never returned me. That particular TV storyline is always tricky for me since I believe what Abby and Lucy think that they committed that child.

Regardless of specialists or surgeries, that child is bonded to them. Abby doesn't want them to make that decision lightly and suggests they talk to Lucy.

Lucy: Every other major life decision you can back out of—sell a house, get divorced. But a baby, you’re in it for life.

Harry: I don’t know, are you? They thought they were getting a healthy kid. They were sold a false bill of goods.

Jerri: We’re not talking about a defective blender, Harry. This is a baby.

🔗 permalink: We’re not talking about a defective blender, Harry. This is a baby.

Ajay seemed more concerned about advancing his company, while Jane was grieving losing Kirin after already suffering three miscarriages.

Jane: We were both there when Kirin was born. It was a dream come true.

Ajay: Now, we need to come to terms with the end of that dream.

🔗 permalink: Now, we need to come to terms with the end of that dream.

It seemed like Ajay never bonded with Kirin as Jane did, so not surprisingly, Jane decided to keep Kirin.

Beating Philip - Family Law Season 1 Episode 6
(Family Law Global TV Twitter Screenshot)

This case became more heartbreaking since Ajay became angry that his wife wouldn't be around to serve his needs and support his business and threatened to divorce her if she went through with Kirin's adoption.

Ajay played dirty and said Jane was depressed after three miscarriages, so he only agreed to the adoption because he was afraid she'd harm herself. He wanted to make her look insane and crazy, which only angered her and made her more determined.

While Harry only wanted to win over Ajay's lawyer, Phil Sterling, Abby cautioned Jane to consider Kirin's financial needs.

Abby: Jane, after everything he’s done I wouldn’t want anything to do with either. But you need to think of Kirin. It’s going to be brutally expensive raising him in the city, especially if you take extended time off for his medical care.

🔗 permalink: Jane, after everything he’s done I wouldn’t want anything to do with either. But you need to…

Bringing the birth mom late in the game complicated matters further. She didn't want Kirin back. She wanted him to be raised in a two-parent home, which she thought would be more stable. In most cases, she'd be correct, but Kirin has medical issues.

Not as many families are as willing to take on a special needs child. Those parents are rare and unique. Jane was willing and should still be considered, even if she was a single mom.

Abby: How easy do you think it’s going to be to find two perfect parents to care for a baby as sick as Kirin, parents as devoted as she is?

🔗 permalink: How easy do you think it’s going to be to find two perfect parents to care for a baby as sick…

It would be challenging to tear Kirin away from the only mother he's bonded with and put him in an unstable environment where there is no guarantee he'd get adopted.

Under Pressure - Family Law Season 1 Episode 6
(Darko Sikman/eOne)

Daniel felt so much pressure that he missed a key point of information. Ajay changed his name. Thank goodness for Harry's investigators.

His family was wealthy, and he received a 20 K monthly allowance, meaning he could afford to give Jane and Kirin cash support.

He was just cheap, and he thought his wife was easily conned.

Obviously, Ajay and Jane were never a good fit; sadly, Kirin had to suffer feeling unwanted.

Everyone's Opinion - Family Law Season 1 Episode 6
(Family Law Global TV Twitter Screenshot)

The adoption case also affected the Svensson family and sparked some debates. While Harry eventually helped Jane, he understood that the Bhadus weren't given a healthy baby and might feel overwhelmed.

Since his recent break-up, Daniel respected them for changing their minds before it was too late. He changed his mind later during the divorce and custody proceedings.

Daniel: What good is honoring a commitment for the sake of commitment if they can see it’s not going to work?

🔗 permalink: What good is honoring a commitment for the sake of commitment if they can see it’s not going…

Harry was clueless. He thought Kirin might be better off in a two-parent home until his children reminded him they were all raised by single moms.

Harry was old school and thought he did well as long as his children were clothed, fed, and had braces. He never gave Daniel or Abby much affection.

Daniel has become obsessed with making Harry proud and becoming a partner in the firm. Daniel has always craved Harry's approval, and Harry routinely ridiculed Daniel for taking sad, collaborative cases instead of ones that brought in lots of cash.

Daniel: You need a partner, Dad. No one is as committed to this firm or you or everything you built as I am.

Harry: Leave it with me. I’ll consider it.

🔗 permalink: Leave it with me. I’ll consider it.

I wondered if Daniel became engaged to Danielle to garner family approval since she meshed with the Svenssons well. Daniel's motivations were two-fold–he was avoiding his house and grieving and did want to look out for his dad.

While Lucy was the favored child, she was the one who struggled the most with the idea of kids. Lucy enjoyed her work but didn't want to mess up some child's life like many parents.

Even though Lucy and Maggie appear to have a solid marriage, Lucy still wanted to spread her wings.

Lucy's Baby Woes - Family Law Season 1 Episode 6
(Darko Sikman/eOne)

Technically, the entire Svensson family could use counseling. Abby initially didn't want to take therapy seriously, but she discovered some interesting tendencies.

Dysfunctional mother-daughter relationships run in her family, and so does using children as ping-pong balls. If Joanne kept Abby from seeing Harry, including a trip to Disneyland, would Abby realize her dad wasn't the only bad guy?

Abby and Frank need to get on the same parenting page before they confuse their children even more. While Abby may have overreacted to finding Justin and Sofia together, she's still Sofia's mother and should be involved in the discipline.

Abby shouldn't be treated as the black sheep constantly. Her opinions matter, and raising teen daughters is never easy. It takes a village.
