If you’re anything like this TV Fanatic, you’ve already developed an addiction to High Potential and need your fix. How dare ABC keep our favorite eccentric cleaning lady away for a whole week!

All joking aside, this show is phenomenal without resorting to crazy gimmicks or overwrought dialogue and plotting. The strength of the series lies in its level of talent.

High Potential doesn’t just boast the fantastic talent of Kaitlin Olson, but a creator who wrote and had a hand in some of history’s biggest shows and movies.

JUDY REYES, KAITLIN OLSON
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

Drew Goddard, creator of High Potential, also wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost. If that doesn’t impress you, he also wrote The Martian and World War Z. Still not enough? He directed Cabin in the Woods!

There’s not a TV Fanatic out there who hasn’t loved one or all of those titles, myself included. Just for good measure, I’ll add one more title from his list of creations: Daredevil.

Now, don’t run off to his IMBd or Wikipedia page just yet — we have some High Potential to talk about!

How Bummed Were You When You Found Out High Potential Was Skipping A Week?

ABC May Be Employing A Strategy That Other Networks Like CBS Have Used

Now that we’ve addressed one of the reasons this series is so compelling and unforgettable, we can jump into the next episode! From the looks of it, things are about to get dicey for Morgan and Karadec.

I’ve frequented many bars in my day but I’ve never gotten a knife threat with any of my cocktails. Is there a secret menu I don’t know about?

DENIZ AKDENIZ, KAITLIN OLSON
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

Since High Potential Season 1 Episode 1, Morgan and her trusted detective side-kick have managed to avoid dangerous situations despite Morgan’s lack of self-preservation.

Granted, that’s not saying much since we are only two episodes into the season. So, why would ABC take a sudden break in its schedule for a brand-new hit series?

Interestingly enough, CBS did the same thing after Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 1. It took a break and came back with a renewal. Am I saying that’s what’s happening now? It better be!

High Potential Wastes No Time Addressing The More Deadly Aspects Of The Job

As for the knife-wielding assailant in the promo for High Potential Season 1 Episode 3, the actor is Ck Bolado. You may be unable to tell because his haircut in this episode is trash, but he’s a striking fellow.

Handsome features aside, the actor has only been dipping his toes into the television industry for four years. That’s quite the leap to be now pulling a knife on Daniel Sunjata.

DANIEL SUNJATA
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

So far, he’s been on S.W.A.T. as well as And Just Like That…, and funnily enough, he will be in an episode of a series I am currently covering, Matlock.

Now, about his character in High Potential, he could be a suspect or even the killer, or it could be a case of a misunderstanding.

All I know is that Karadec’s handsome face better not get touched! It’s too bad the same can’t be said for the victim.

There’s Something Ironic About A Stuntman Drowning In A Bath Tub

I’m not trying to be gross, but in those very fast few seconds of the promo, did anyone else notice that the dead guy in the tub was shockingly fit? It’s just an observation.

Well, I checked, and he is, in fact, very fit because a stuntman plays the character. If I learned anything from Ryan Gosling in The Fall Guy, it’s that core strength is vital.

JAVICIA LESLIE
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

Chad Guerrero might be one of the most prolific stuntmen in Hollywood. The man has clocked in over two hundred stunt credits and is still walking pretty! That is both impressive and psychotic.

There’s a bit of irony in a stuntman playing a character that dies in a bathtub. Since I don’t think he drove a flaming monster truck into the bath before drowning, I will say his very physically fit status likely played a role in his casting.

To be fair, Guerrero has had actual speaking roles in many other shows, such as Criminal Minds, Shooter, and The Good Place.

It’s unclear what happens to his character other than dying but judging by the candles, it was either a romantic night or a ritual sacrifice.

Since High Potential isn’t a Ryan Murphy show, it was probably a sexy time gone wrong.

High Potential Makes Good Use Of Every Aspect Of Its Story

MELINDA PAGE HAMILTON
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

Now, what you don’t see in the trailer but in the promo pics is the one and only Melinda Page Hamilton! You’re probably going, “Who is that?” Fair question.

On the other hand, you could be saying, “Her face looks so familiar.” That is also a valid statement!

For years, Miss Hamilton has been gracing the small screen in shows like Grimm, Frequency, and True Detective.

My favorite role from Melinda has to be Sister Mary Bernard on Desperate Housewives. She played an unhinged nun who got into a slapping match with Eva Longoria’s Gabby before Sister Mary set herself on fire. It. Was. Iconic.

I clocked the white coat she is wearing, so we can make a solid guess that she’s playing a doctor — possibly the coroner.

Then again, Hamilton’s character may have nothing to do with the hot guy in the bathtub.

DENIZ AKDENIZ, JAVICIA LESLIE
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

High Potential has made strides in not putting the case of Morgan’s missing ex, Roman, on the back burner.

As seen in High Potential Season 1 Episode 2, Captain Selena is already on the case of the missing muralist. Let’s hope Karadec and Morgan don’t drive each other over the edge first.

Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan Is The Eccentric Genius With A Big Heart That Everyone Wants To Be Friends With

High Potential is still so new that it’s impossible to know where this series is headed. Thankfully, the show is so enthralling that most viewers, including yours truly, don’t even care.

I have to give it up to the writers, directors, actors, producers, and everyone involved in this series. The story, dialogue, production, and everything in between have been expert-level.

Audiences are seeing a brand-new side of Kaitlin Olson, and we love every minute of it. From her quick wit and confidence to her big heart that matches her big brain, Morgan is the kind of eccentric genius you wouldn’t mind calling a friend.

KAITLIN OLSON, JUDY REYES, DANIEL SUNJATA
(Carlos Lopez-Calleja/Disney)

ABC‘s High Potential is so refreshing in the way that it organically blends Morgan’s work and home life. The children feel active in the story and not like prop pieces.

Hopefully, this perfectly crafted show will not take too many breaks during its premiere season because I need my fix!

Yes, I know how I sound, and no, I don’t plan to do anything about it other than continue watching this phenomenal show. Check out the promo trailer below!

Do you think Morgan’s wardrobe is over the top?

Who is your favorite character in the series so far?

Please drop a comment below to let me know, and join me again when I bring you more spoilers for High Potential!

Rivalries that kept us glued to our screens! Some of the most intense TV character rivalries that left fans buzzing and craving even more drama!

The post 11 Long-Standing Character Feuds that Captured TV Audiences appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
There's a difference between "feud" and "archrivalry." Most viewers understand that there is generally an antagonist and a protagonist, even if the lines of morality are often blurry.

We aren't talking about an ongoing argument, either. This isn't a list of significant others arguing over whose turn it is to take out the garbage or wash the dishes.

No, these character feuds tend to be dynamic, historical (at least in the minds of many viewers), and ongoing, drawing the audience in with the acrimony between the two.

The Final Battle - The Expanse
(Courtesy of SyFy)

Instead of an argument, it's a struggle that weaves itself into the story, sometimes even becoming the story (or, at least, the only part of the story the audience becomes heavily invested in).

If you've ever seen 12 Angry Men (and you should definitely check it out for the genius of the dialogue alone), then you know the value of pitting personalities against one another, even if the only actions are words.

Ser Gawain - HotD S02E04 - A Dance of Dragons - House of the Dragon
(Theo Whiteman/HBO)

That said, here is a nifty list of fantastic and long-term character feuds that did much for their respective shows. And no, this won't be a carbon copy of similar lists you've probably stumbled upon across the web.

Beth Dutton vs. Jamie Dutton – Yellowstone

There's nothing quite like a sibling rivalry unless you're up against the likes of Beth Dutton, one of TV's fiercest, take-no-prisoners characters. Unlike her reputation, however, this rivalry draws out Beth's emotional core, which is far less antagonistic than she projects.

It makes her one of the more complex characters in Yellowstone. Her background is one of betrayal at the hands of her own brother, Jamie. It's easy to fling around the word "betrayal," though Jamie was young and made a stupid decision on her behalf.

It resulted in a lifetime of animosity between the two. On the one hand, Jamie is beholden to political ambitions, while Beth is perfectly positioned to undermine them.

The result is one of the most interesting family dynamics on TV in a long time.

Daredevil vs. The Punisher – Daredevil

It's fascinating how often Netflix's Daredevil series is shunted to the side, deep within the shadow of Disney's acquisition of everything Marvel.

To the undiscerning viewer, with little information on Marvel's colossal comic character lineup, Daredevil and Punisher are supposed to both be protagonists — the good guys in an unremitting battle against evil.

Related: Daredevil Born Again: Everything We Know So Far About the Superhero Revival

Daredevil season 2 proved the opposite, as the comics so often do. Daredevil's enemies quickly became a matter of background significance when The Punisher and Daredevil physically crossed paths for the first time.

Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock - Daredevil
(Netflix)

Both heroes exchange more than just physical blows in an epic fight across the rooftops.

The dialogue throughout the fight is essential to each character, laying the groundwork for their motivations and irreconcilable differences, which play out for the rest of the season.

Fox Mulder vs. Alex Krycek – The X-Files

It's hard not to imagine a world where the only opposition to Mulder's search for the truth is none other than the Smoking Man (aptly named for his chain-smoking habit).

However, The X-Files doesn't always play black and white with its characters' moral inclinations. Alex Krycek is a much more fascinating opponent to Mulder's endeavors, partly because his goals shift as his character arc plays out.

Cracking A Case - The X-Files
(Fox)

Krycek starts out as Mulder's partner, ostensibly to spy on him in Scully's place. Things head south quickly, and he becomes a primary antagonist. If that were the end of it, Krycek would have become nothing more than an X-File monster of the week.

Later, as events continue to impact him viciously and subtly, Krycek waffles, seemingly unable to commit to one side or the other. Ultimately, his rivalry with Mulder leads him down a semi-redemption path.

Related: The Witcher Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

Though the Smoking Man will always be the Darth Vader of the X-Files universe, Mulder clashed with Krycek far more often, ultimately coming to terms with who Krycek was.

Uhtred Ragnarson vs. King Alfred – The Last Kingdom

Nothing is more exciting than two opposing forces that work for the same team. Such a pairing is often difficult to write, though The Last Kingdom is a lasting example of what can be done with two such characters.

King Alfred - The Last Kingdom
(Netflix (Screenshot))

King Alfred is portrayed as a highly capable strategic and tactical monarch who is fiercely religious in the Catholic faith. Uhtred, on the other hand, worships the gods of the Vikings, though he finds himself in King Alfred's service.

King Alfred and Uhtred revolve around this antagonistic religious nucleus, clashing repeatedly. Uhtred still serves Alfred's ends while retaining some of his own ambitions and goals.

The juxtaposition between the two is a fascinating story all by itself. They both hate and respect one another, often coming close to killing each other outright.

No matter what anyone thinks of The Last Kingdom, the dynamic of Uhtred and King Alfred is easily the series' highlight.

Jim Holden vs. Marco Inaros – The Expanse

The Expanse Season 4 Poster
(Amazon)

No matter how much history is behind us, one thing will always remain a certainty: Two men obsessed with one woman will almost always descend into a pit of unrelenting stupidity.

On The Expanse, both Marco and Jim are capable commanders of their own vessels. However, Marco simply cannot resist going after Holden, regardless of the danger at hand or the unforeseen forces arrayed before him.

Related: House of the Dragon Renewed For Third Season On HBO

In response, Holden reacts emotionally, allowing Marco to live to save Naomi's son. Regardless of what you may think of acts of nobility, they often come at a cost.

Needless to say, countless lives were lost due to Holden's decision and countless more due to Marco's obsessions.

The best part of Marco and Holden's rivalry is how it reveals Naomi's growth. Holden isn't perfect, but he's far from the Marco character she confided in as a young woman.

Naomi Nagata, Trapped - The Expanse
(Amazon Studios)

Ultimately, Naomi's engineering mastery and relationship with Holden drive Marcus into her trap, ending the confrontation between Holden and Marco for good.

Rhaenyra vs. Queen Alicent – House of the Dragon

In a show that's all about politics, power plays, and war, there are bound to be numerous feuds between and among favorite characters.

During King Visery's reign on House of the Dragon, he announced that his daughter, Rhaenyra, would succeed him on the throne because he lacked a male heir.

Of course, nothing is ever that simple, and when he passes, his desire for succession doesn't go as planned. Within unraveling the entire plot, Queen Alicent and Rhaenyra become opposing forces, the former thanks to her son, Aegon II, taking the throne upon the death of Viserys.

The Most Regal Queen - HOTD S02E03 - House of the Dragon
(Theo Whiteman/HBO)

What makes the feud so dynamic is both women's reluctance to go to war with each other, not to mention the atrocities that naturally occur during such times.

The rivalry between these two elevates the otherwise remarkable ensemble to a new level, with bitter brothers, sons, wives, daughters, fathers, and mothers at war with each other.

Rust Cole vs Marty Hart – True Detective Season 1

One of the more unique aspects of True Detective Season 1 is the dynamic between the season's two main detectives. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more polarizing pairing anywhere on television.

Rust is a dark, broody, poetic cynic, while Marty is a more optimistic prototypical protagonist with a solid professional resume and reputation and a darker family history.

Rust Cohle Looking Frustrated - True Detective
(HBO/Screenshot)

Such a pairing is not easy to pull off, yet the interlacing storyline between these two characters is endlessly fascinating.

Mysterious and shocking storyline aside, Rust and Marty could probably star in a series about lavatory cleaning and make it somehow intriguing.

They constantly rub each other the wrong way, even separating for years before coming back to solve the case that drove both of them in opposite directions.

Catherine the Great vs. Peter II – The Great

Like House of the Dragon, the feud between Peter and Catherine is over the monarchical rule of Russia. Unlike House of the Dragon, The Great is a study in farcical, grotesque humor of the crudest sort.

Catherine in The Great Season 1 Finale
(Andrea Pirrello/Hulu)

Catherine and Peter rarely see eye to eye, but the series pulled an interesting cat out of the hat when Catherine fell in love with her arch-nemesis.

Sure, other enemies are creeping around in the wings, but the ups and downs between what would become one of Russia's most prolific women rulers and her bumbling, savage, and lewd husband drive the series forward almost entirely on its own.

Jeremy Clarkson vs. Charlie – Clarkson's Farm

On its surface, Clarkson's Farm is a reality comedy about a man who has no idea how to run a farm, running a farm. Clarkson is the primary personality, and Charlie is his Land Agent.

The thing is, Charlie is not Clarkson's enemy in any way, shape, or form. However, that's where a part of the show's brilliance shines through.

Jeremy Clarkson - Clarkson's Farm
(Credit: Amazon MGM Studios)

When serving as Land Agent, Charlie simultaneously represents the guiding force in Clarkson's farming decisions and the bureaucracy seemingly arrayed against the agricultural industry.

Someone, somewhere, once said, "If you want to see how the government works, go to the DMV. It's like living at the DMV for farmers, but only on a more massive scale.

Despite being a friend to Clarkson, Charlie is the stand-in for the massive, bloated, bureaucratic red tape farmers must navigate.

Cersei vs. Tyrion – Game of Thrones

To be brutally honest, Cersei Lannister is known for hating everyone and everything other than herself. However, Tyrion Lannister is the target of her deepest, most vile hatred.

Deep Blue Eyes - Game of Thrones
(HBO (Screenshot))

In fact, her hatred is so deep that Cersei fails to recognize Tyrion's usefulness and capabilities, ultimately pushing him away and turning her own brother into one of her staunchest enemies.

This hatred is compounded when she believes that Tyrion is responsible for her son's murder (King Joffrey Baratheon). Cersei is the enemy we love to hate, while Tyrion is the protagonist underdog we love to pull for.

Related: Fixated Females: 17 Duos Who Obsess Over Each Other

Like House of the Dragon (which serves as the prequel to Game of Thrones), the antagonism of two powerful characters becomes part of the foundations of war, turning family against family.

Walter White vs Gustavo Fring – Breaking Bad

Giancarlo Esposito is just one of those actors who really sells their role. Gustavo is clearly Walter's intellectual equal and more than a capable opponent.

Walter White - Breaking Bad
(Credit: AMC)

Their relationship starts out with a degree of hesitancy, especially on Gus's part, but rapidly devolves into outright hostility.

In truth, there really is no good guy here, so it's nice to see a full-blown feud between two bad guys play out in the long-term format of a TV series rather than a short, two-hour movie.

On Breaking Bad, Walter and Gus represent the damage two intellectual combatants can do to others around them and within each other's circles.

Disney+ is bringing back a Hell's Kitchen favorite with Daredevil: Born Again. Will it hold up to the original series? Find out everything we know so far.

Did anybody call for a lawyer?

We can barely contain our excitement about the news that Disney+ is bringing back Daredevil in a bid to reignite the character for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The glimpses of Matt Murdock that we got on Echo and Spiderman: No Way Home were great, but we have missed this tortured, hopeless do-gooder and his heart of gold.

Daredevil: Born Again EWK Lead Photo
(Marvel/Disney+)

At the risk of sounding like a superfan (guilty), this Marvel nerd has faithfully watched everything that has led up to this moment, hoping for an eventual Daredevil return.

Now that it’s actually happening, there’s a lot to cover — let’s dive in.

Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock - Daredevil
(Netflix)

Where Will Daredevil: Born Again Pick Up?

It’s been nearly six years since Daredevil Season 3 was released, and it feels like yesterday.

We left the Netflix series feeling pretty satisfied, having most of our questions answered. We got to see a whole back story laid out for Karen Page, which we’d been yearning for since the beginning.

In Daredevil Season 3 Episode 13, Matt Murdock’s past is blown wide open by the revelation of his mother’s identity (who guessed Sister Maggie?).

The entire series brings character after compelling character, weaving artful storylines and creating believable human relationships even between enemies.

Fisk Losing Control - Daredevil
(Netflix)

Daredevil Season 3 ends with Matt and Fisk making a deal: if Fisk promises to keep Matt’s identity a secret and to leave Foggy and Karen alone, Matt won’t turn Vanessa in for having an FBI agent killed.

Karen is brought into Nelson & Murdock as a partner. Dex (Bullseye) is seriously injured after Fisk shatters his spine.

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to pick up after the events of Daredevil Season 3, The Punisher Season 2, and Echo.

There’s a lot of ground to cover because Matt Murdock has been involved in so many Marvel projects that his story is spread out, so pulling everything back together will be an interesting challenge for the Daredevil: Born Again writers.

Marvel's Daredevil Season 3
(Netflix)

Daredevil: Born Again Plot (and Spoilers!)

Marvel and Disney+ are keeping details of the show’s plot close to the chest, but fans have theories, and if any of them are correct, this show is going to be bleak.

In the comics, Karen Page has a substance addiction, and in a moment of desperation, she sells Matt’s identity as Daredevil in exchange for drug money.

This sets off a series of events that involve Fisk making it his mission to ruin Matt’s life, and he accomplishes it.

Whether the writers for the show will stick to the comic’s plot is unclear, though, so we’ll have to wait a while longer for confirmation.

Matt, Foggy and Karen Meet - Daredevil
(Netflix)

How Many Episodes Will Daredevil: Born Again Have?

Previously, showrunners announced that Daredevil: Born Again would consist of 18 episodes.

But after quite a few changes and delays, it looks like the reboot is slated for just nine episodes.

Charlie Cox, who plays the titular character, confirmed that only nine episodes had been filmed for the new series.

We’re not sure how long these episodes will be, but we’re looking forward to seeing this story continue in whatever capacity the writers see fit.

Fisk Faces A New Enemy - Daredevil
(Netflix)

Who is in the Cast of Daredevil: Born Again?

This is probably one of the most exciting show returns we’ve seen in a long time, and it’s primarily because of the cast. Most of the principal cast from Netflix’s Daredevil series is returning, and they’re not stopping there.

Our favorite trio will be back: Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Elden Henson as Frankin “Foggy” Nelson.

Vincent D’Onofrio is reprising his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, who is quite honestly one of the best Marvel villains of all time. D’Onofrio brings his absolute A-game to this character, and we’re stoked to see him on this cast.

Jon Bernthal is The Punisher
(Netflix)

Another fantastic character who will grace our screens on Daredevil: Born Again is Frank Castle/Punisher, played by the immensely talented Jon Bernthal.

Notably, Fisk’s wife Vanessa was recast and will now be played by Sandrine Holt. Ayelet Zurer previously played Vanessa.

Wilson Bethel will bring his talents back to continue playing Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, also known as Bullseye.

Also joining the cast of Daredevil: Born Again are Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade, Nikki M. James as Kirsten McDuffie, Genneya Walton as BB Urich, Clark Johnson as Cherry, Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman, and Zabryna Guevara as Sheila River.

Has a Trailer for Daredevil: Born Again Been Released?

We know that filming just resumed in January after a ton of delays that have come up since the show was announced.

But as of today, there is no trailer out (publicly) yet. Word on the street is that a trailer has been filmed, so we’re just waiting for that to be released!

Don’t worry, though — as soon as a trailer drops, we’ll update this post so you can watch it when we do.

We’re hopeful that the powers that be won’t keep us waiting too much longer!

A Mysterious Wealthy Client - Daredevil
(Netflix)

When is the Release Date for Daredevil: Born Again?

It pains us to say it, but we’ve still got a lengthy wait ahead of us before rejoining our friends in Hell’s Kitchen.

Disney+ and Marvel have said that Daredevil: Born Again will be premiering in March of 2025.

It’s still months off, but we’ve certainly experienced longer waits with Marvel, so we’re not complaining too much.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes contributed to the delay, but things are back on track now, and we’re hoping for a speedy completion.

Returning Villain - Daredevil
(Netflix)

Where to Watch Daredevil: Born Again

Once the show is released, you can watch it exclusively on Disney+, where it’ll join the rest of the Marvel catalog.

Will all episodes be released simultaneously, or will they come out one at a time? We don’t know yet, but we’ll be ready either way.

As always, we’ll keep you updated on any new developments, so stay in touch!

In the meantime, we’re off to have a marathon binge of Marvel content on Disney+ to prepare for the new show.

After news broke of Daredevil: Born Again's creative overhaul, series star Vincent D'Onofrio is speaking out.

It was reported earlier this week that Disney and Marvel had let go of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman.

The decision reportedly came after Disney execs screened completed episodes of the series and decided that the show wasn't working in its current form.

D'Onofrio, who is reprising the role of Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk in the series, took to social media to respond to a fan who said the actor's posts celebrating the series had "aged poorly."

"Unless you really know what's going there's a chance you could be wrong about this statement," he responded.

"We are going to bring forward the best series we can. One we can be proud of. Have some trust my friend, trust."

"Every cool project I've been involved with has evolved constantly during pre-production, production and post," D'Onofrio added.

"It's just reported on these days as if it's big news. It's not. It's a bunch of creatives doing their best to get it right. It's a constant in this business.

I wouldn't have it any other way. Frankly I'd be worried if we were settling for less."

Daredevil: Born Again reportedly forgets much of what made the Netflix series a success and is not bringing back several cast members, including Deborah Ann Woll.

Original showrunner Steven DeKnight previously hit out at the "corporate shenanigans" used to revert contracts to a first season.

"It's an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season," DeKnight wrote on X/Twitter.

"Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!"

"From what I understand, I'm not going to see a penny from 'Daredevil: Born Again' because they added the 'Born Again' and can claim it's a completely different show," he explained.

"You know, with the exact same two lead actors (who I love!) playing Daredevil and Fisk."

"Despite my feelings of corporate shenanigans, I was truly excited to see what the new creative team was whipping up," he wrote Wednesday of the overhaul news.

"My heart goes out to all who were affected by this decision. Tomorrow is a better day."

It's unclear at this stage what will become of Daredevil: Born Again, but it would be better to craft a series that feels like a follow-up of the Netflix iteration.

There's a reason it had strong viewership.

Uh-oh! It looks like there's trouble brewing for Daredevil: Born Again as Disney+ mulls scrapping the first half of the season. Get the details.

Will Daredevil: Born Again even see the light of day?

The latest update on the Disney+ series doesn't instill hope that any of the episodes will make it on the air.

According to Variety, head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman have been let go from the series.

Less than half of the series' 18-episode order was shot before the SAG-AFTRA strike, and the remaining directors have also been let go.

The aim, Variety reports, is to take the series in a new creative direction, which means some of the filmed footage will be left on the cutting room floor.

It's interesting to hear that the show hasn't gotten off the ground running because the recent press hasn't been positive.

As you'll recall, Daredevil initially aired on Netflix with Charlie Cox playing the titular superhero.

The series was canceled after three seasons, and years later, Daredevil: Born Again was confirmed by Disney+.

At the time, it seemed like we'd be getting a fourth season, but as time passed, it emerged that the new series would leave many elements of the Netflix iteration in the rear-view mirror.

Instead of a continuation, it was reported that many of Cox's costars wouldn't be back.

Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson are out as Karen and Foggy, respectively, meaning that Matt will be without his two closest allies.

However, Vincent D'Onofrio is coming back as Wilson Fisk.

Steven DeKnight, the original showrunner of the Netflix series, called what had transpired "an old Disney scam."

"It's an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season," he wrote on X in response to an IATSE member.

"Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed!"

DeKnight praised Cox and D'onofrio for returning to the roles but made clear his issue was with the "corporate shenanigans."

"I can't wait to see Charlie Cox and the amazing @VincentDonofrio reprise their iconic [roles].

"But to claim this is a complete reboot and you don't have to pay the original creatives is some corporate shenanigans, to say the least."

With Marvel now taking the show in a new direction, it certainly makes you wonder whether the decision to forget Matt Murdock's journey on the Netflix series has been the best course of action.

When Daredevil: Born Again was announced, many thought it would be the fourth season of the Netflix series, but maybe it's too much of a tough sell, even for executives, to bring Matt back without some of the best characters.

With the SAG-AFTRA strike still ongoing, the series won't get back into production for a long time.

Vincent D'Onofrio attends D23 Expo 2022 at Anaheim Convention Center
((Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Disney))

The aim, it seems, is to have a new creative team on board for when the strike is over.

It's also possible that Disney+ could nix the series entirely because, after the big budget mess that was Secret Invasion, Disney and Marvel need to find a way to reinvigorate the MCU.

All we can do is hope that if the show sees the light of day, it won't lose the legacy of the three seasons on Netflix.

The series was a thrilling superhero drama with just the right amount of grit, so deviating from that would be a big misstep.

When news broke in July 2022 that Daredevil would be staging a comeback on Disney+, there was a collective sigh of relief.

In the aftermath, though, plenty of announcements about Daredevil: Born Again have given even the franchise's biggest fans pause.

While Charlie Cox is set to return as Matt Murdock, many of his costars from the original Netflix series are not.

But Fisk's wife Vanessa was recast, with Sandrine Holt joining the cast of the 18-episode next chapter.

Disney+ hasn't called Daredevil: Born Again the fourth season, so there's been plenty of debate about what, if anything, will be the same as the Netflix iteration.

Steven DeKnight, the original showrunner, has opened up about the decision to travel in this direction, calling it "an old Disney scam."

"It's an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season," he wrote on X in response to an IATSE member.

The reaction from DeKnight certainly casts more doubt on the project because if the series takes away the elements that made the first three seasons a success, there's a good chance many fans will be alienated in the process.

The original showrunner brings up some great points, and it must be a sticking point for those who brought the Netflix series to life.

For now, Daredevil: Born Again production has been shut down due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The series ended with plenty of cliffhangers that will now go unresolved unless the show miraculously gets a second shot at life elsewhere.

"We are proud of the work done on the series and the opportunity to work with great partners," a representative for Prime told Variety.

Showrunner Emilia di Girolamo, who departed the series at the end of the first season, addressed the cancellation on Instagram.

"Thank you for all the overwhelming messages about 'Three Pines.' I know there's a lot of disappointment that the show won't be returning and I'm sad for the wonderful cast, crew and fans," she wrote.

"I was not involved in the conversations and negotiations around renewal but I have been told Left Bank, Sony & Prime Video all wanted to bring the show back but were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement."

Meanwhile, CBS has unveiled more details about how its daytime hit soap The Young and the Restless will celebrate five decades of romance and rivalry ahead of the series' broadcast golden anniversary on March 26, 2023.

The Daredevil revival on Disney+ is undergoing a bit of a change.

Sandrine Holt was previously revealed to be a part of the show's cast, but now we have some clarity on who she'll be playing.

THR recently revealed that Holt would play Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) wife, Vanessa, succeeding Ayelet Zurer, who played the role in the original Netflix series.

No details have been given about why the show recast the role, but there are rumblings that more roles could be recast.

Jon Bernthal will be suiting up as The Punisher again for Daredevil: Born Again.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed Tuesday that he would be joining Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio for the Disney+ revival.

The 18-episode (!) series is set to enter production in New York later this month.

Bernthal initially played Frank Castle in 12 episodes of Daredevil before going on to headline The Punisher for two seasons.

The series was canceled in 2019, around the time Netflix grounded its entire slate of Marvel series.

At that point, there were concerns that all of the superheroes that formed part of Netflix's slate wouldn't return.

But all the shows left Netflix last year and moved to Disney+ around the globe, paving the way for some heroes to return.

Daredevil: Born Again got an expanded episode order, a surefire confirmation that fans will get updates on some of their most beloved characters.

Many returns will likely be kept under wraps until closer to transmission or until fans watch the new episodes.

Daredevil: Born Again is on track for a 2024 bow, but some big names will be missing.

THR notes that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, are not returning.

Furthermore, there's no telling whether their roles will be recast.

Undoubtedly, Born Again will have a different focus than the initial three-season series, but we're sure it is in good hands.

Deadline revealed late last year that Revenge veteran Margarita Levieva had joined the cast as a potential love interest for Matt Murdock.

Also reportedly joining the cast are Michael Gandolfini and Sandrine Holt.

Cox revealed in an interview with NME last year that he doesn't expect the show to be as dark as it was on Netflix.

My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience,” Cox explained.

When Daredevil returns on Disney+, it will be targeting a broader audience. As a result, the show will be drastically different from its three-season-run on Netflix.

It's hard to believe it, but Daredevil is returning.

We've known that much for months now.

Netflix previously canceled the Charlie Cox superhero drama after three seasons, but a reboot, titled Daredevil Born Again is coming to Disney+.

The 18-episode reboot is set to film for 11 months ahead of a planned 2024 bow on Disney+, but what will the show look like?

Fans embraced the grittier nature of the Netflix superhero series, but it seems that will change with the move to Disney+.

Charlie Cox at Vue West End

Cox revealed in a new interview with NME that he thinks the show will be less gory at its new home.

“My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience,” Cox explained.

"Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

It will certainly make for a change of pace if the series goes too young, but it's hard to imagine Disney+ fixing what isn't broken.

The aim will be to make the series more approachable for a broader audience, and that could be what keeps the show on the air for longer.

The 18-episode order is unprecedented, but it means that fans will have an exciting arc that will reach a conclusion.

“They said to me, ‘We’re going to be shooting in 2023’,” Cox said.

“I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, ‘All 2023’. I start shooting in February and finish in December.”

The actor is happy about 18 episodes.

“I’m fascinated to discover why they’ve chosen to do 18,” Cox said. “I’m imagining there’s going to be an element to it that is like the old-school procedural show," he said.

"Not necessarily case-of-the-week, but something where we go really deep into Matt Murdock the lawyer and get to see what his life is like."

"If that’s done right and he really gets his hands dirty with that world… I think there’s something quite interesting about that.”

The cast of Daredevil: Born Again is expanding.

Deadline revealed this week that Revenge alum Margarita Levieva has been added to the cast as a possible love interest for Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock.

Sandrine Holt (Mr. Robot, American Gigolo) has also landed a role that will see her star opposite returning star Vincent D'Onofrio.

While details remain scarce about what this show will be about, the casting announcements appear to be ramping up.

It was revealed earlier this month that Michael Gandolfini was joining the series in an undisclosed role.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe likes to keep fans in suspense, and given that Daredevil: Born Again will be a part of the fifth phase of the MCU, it's understandable that more information is not available.

Murdoch headlined Daredevil for three seasons on Netflix, but the show was canceled after three seasons, despite strong reviews.

At the time, the streaming service also nixed Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and The Defenders.

Cox stunned fans by appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, bringing the iconic character back to life again.

There were rumors for years that Disney+ would bring the superhero back in his own show, and fans got their wish earlier this year.

Daredevil: Born Again will stream exclusively on Disney+, and the first season will comprise 18 new episodes.

At this stage, it's unclear whether we're getting a limited series, or if there will be scope for the show to continue in some capacity.

The intricate nature of the MCU makes these things difficult to predict, but it will probably depend on whether there is still a desire for the show.

Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Bob Gunton, Ayelet Zurer, and Rosario Dawson starred on the Netflix version, but there hasn't been confirmation on whether any of those stars will be back.
