The CSI revival has still not officially been announced by CBS, but development is moving along.

Just one day after we learned that William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) are in advanced negotiations to return for the limited series, comes some new details.

If you watch CSI online, you know the series wrapped with Gil and Sarah together on his boat, so something must have happened to bring them back to Vegas to solve some murders.

"Facing an existential threat that could bring down the Crime Lab, a brilliant team of forensic investigators must welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City," the first plot details, courtesy of Deadline tease.

It's certainly an interesting hook that suggests this revival will actually be a self-contained story.

The original series had a lot of procedural elements, but the show could be getting rejuvenated for the streaming era.

No word on who those other friends might be, but we do have some insight into some of the new characters about to arrive in Sin City.

Leading the Crime Lab in Vegas is Maxine, who is described as "a top-flight scientist and a leader in the field of genetics."

Usually leading investigations is Level III CSI Josh, who "has a knack for crime scene reconstruction" and "a family of small-time crooks and scammers."

Level II CSI Allie, "an immigrant who followed her dreams to Las Vegas," is described as "a bonafide genius — a double Harvard whiz kid with a PhD in forensic archaeology."

We also have Chris, the "up-and-coming Level II CSI," is "a lab rat set free," after making the transition to field work.

Then there's Hugo, who is now the head medical examiner, with "an endless fascination with the bodies that find their way onto his slab."

The only way the potential series will be a success is if it blends some old and new in terms of characters, and that appears to be the direction the series will go.

The series would come from  Jason Tracey, CBS TV Studios, and Jerry Bruckheimer TV.

Tracey is on board to serve as executive producer with Jerry Bruckheimer TV's Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed, and CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker.

The CSI franchise was huge for CBS, spanning four shows: CSI (2000-15), CSI: Miami (2002-12), CSI: New York (2004-13), and CSI: Cyber (2015-16).

Additionally, the franchise has spawned videogames and novels, among other things.

Given that CBS has not confirmed the project, there's a good chance it is waiting to find out which other cast members would be interested in returning before pulling the trigger.

Negotiations since the series was confirmed to be in the works could have stalled somewhat due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Still, even when CSI concluded, it was still a decent performer in the ratings, and could be a big performer internationally.

Ever since it was announced that a revival of CSI was in the works at CBS, fans have been wondering which beloved cast members will be reprising their roles.

According to a new report by TV Line, two fan-favorites are already in advanced talks to appear.

William Petersen and Jorja Fox are in talks to, once again, return Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle respectively.

The outlet notes, however, that CBS has yet to order the project, meaning that it is very much still in development.

The CSI franchise was a viable one for CBS for several years, beginning with CSI, before adding in CSI Miami, CSI NY, and CSI Cyber.

The series has also spawned videogames, among other things, so it is a big brand that is recognized across the globe.

It's a franchise worth over $1 billion, so that counts for something.

In today's climate, the TV networks are struggling to keep people tuning in because of the fierce competition from streaming offerings.

CSI Season 15 averaged 8.3 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating in the demo, but the two-hour series finale event managed 12.2 million viewers and a 1.8 rating.

The Las Vegas-set original series was, at one time, the most-watched show in the world.

Bringing such a big show back from the dead should get some recognition and drum up interest.

Bringing back big names from the better years of the show is bound to get people tuning in.

Granted, the spinoffs have struggled to live up to the main series, but if the main series gets the reboot, it could be a big hit for CBS.

It's also possible that the new series could skip CBS entirely and head to CBS All Access.

THR broke the news in February that a celebration of the show's legacy could be in the works, but it CBS remained silent about it back then.

It's unclear how many episodes the limited series could span, but we do know that Elementary scribe Jason Tracey is attached to pen the script.

OK, CSI Fanatics.

Are you on board with this revival news, or do you think it's best to keep the franchise in the ground?

The CSI franchise is poised to making a return to CBS.

THR is reporting that the network is looking to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise with a revival.

The outlet reports that the network is in talks with the original creator Anthony Zuiker and Jerry Bruckheimer, about getting a limited series off the ground.

While CBS and CBS TV Studios failed to provide a statement to THR, the website states that the potential series is still in the deal-making stages.

It's unclear how many episodes the limited series will span, but THR notes that Elementary scribe Jason Tracey is attached to pen the script.

The original CSI lasted 15 seasons on CBS, concluding with a two-hour series finale that wrapped in 2015. It was a closure-filled conclusion that brought the narrative to a satisfying conclusion.

William Petersen, who played Gil Grissom, is said to be one of the many actors being lined up for a possible return.

The CSI franchise was huge for CBS, with all of the series under the umbrella enthralling millions of viewers across the world.

The Las Vegas-set original series the most-watched show in the world.

The series spawned spinoffs Miami, New York, and Cyber. The latter spinoff did not receive a warm response and was canceled after just two seasons.

CSI, however, was a major brand for CBS TV Studios, with videogame tie-ins, novels, and other media coming to light as part of the franchise.

It makes sense then that CBS would want to bring it back in some capacity. It's likely that the limited series approach will be to assess whether people would be interested in a full-fledged revival.

TV networks are looking to series of the past more than ever nowadays. It's becoming increasingly difficult to launch a new IP in a saturated scripted TV market.

This is thanks to the rise of streaming services. It's likely CBS will want this series on the schedule because it could make for a great marketing opportunity to grab the attention of viewers who once watched the series.

CBS is planning another crossover for February Sweeps.

Following last season’s merging of NCIS: LA crossover with Hawaii Five-0, the network has confirmed that Detective Mac Taylor of CSI: NY will jet over to Las Vegas this winter and meet up on a case with Ted Danson’s D.B. Russell.

The event will kick off on February 6, as the original CSI airs an episode that features Gary Sinise’s character arriving in Sin City to surprise his girlfriend… only to learn she’s gone missing. He teams up with Russell to find her.

Two days later, Russell will touch down in The Big Apple in order to continue the investigation, as “case gets personal for Taylor,” according to the official CBS synopsis. He ends up “breaking police protocol in an effort to find the kidnappers.”

With CBS ordering six pilots to series for the 2012-2013 schedule, the network has also announced a few cancellations to make room for the upcoming shows.

Those NOT returning to the network this fall will be:

  • CSI: Miami
  • Rob
  • Unforgettable

CSI: NY, meanwhile, will return, while the fate of Rules of Engagement remains undecided.

Regarding the end of CSI: Miami, who aired for 10 seasons, CBS said in a statement:

It “leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue – and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons.”

CBS is by far the most watched network on television. And it showed off this status last month when it announced a large scale renewal of numerous hit programs at once.

So there’s not a lot for CBS to decide when it comes to the 2012-2013 schedule. Unlike the status of various shows on The CW or ABC, there aren’t many unknowns in this case.

We’ve been kicking ass and taking names… and we’re done taking names.

So said Omar Miller to me this week in a preview of what’s to come on season 10 of CSI: Miami. The actor, who has starred on the drama since 2009, said the cast is three episodes into shooting and, while he can’t reveal the resolution to May’s cliffhanger, he did tease an “intense” conclusion to come and added:

“What becomes of Natalia in the trunk? Let’s just say Harry Houdini might be involved. And a knot of some kind.”

The biggest show-related news of the summer is that Carlos Bernard will come on board this fall as a villain, but Miller is yet to work with the former 24 star. That doesn’t mean he isn’t excited about the prospect, though.

“Any time we get new blood, there’s new, fresh energy that comes with it,” he said, again refraining from spilling any spoilers that may be related to Bernard’s political patriarch.

The actor was far more talkative when it came to David Caruso, though. Miller described the star as “really passionate” and said:

“I’ve learned a lot from David. Any time you get to work with someone whose had great success, who has been able to figure out the business for 30 plus years, you just work the sponge and soak up all the knowledge he has to give.”

CSI: Miami premieres its new season on September 25.

Carlos Bernard, best known for his work as Tony Almeida on 24, has been cast in a season-long arc on CSI: Miami.

“We’re going to slowly position Horatio in opposition to a very subtle, but powerful, political patriarch,” producer Barry O’Brien tells TV Guide. “He’s kind of a Donald Trump meets the Kennedy family… There will be a very high-octane relationship between the two. A hero is as heroic as his opposition is deadly, so we’re really going to go there with this character.”

Bernard recently guest-starred on Burn Notice and will also play a villain on ABC’s updated version of Charlie’s Angels.

CSI: Miami returns on Sunday, September 25 and Bernard will debut in late October.

The CSI franchise is bringing back another dead wife.

A day after CSI: NY revealed that Jaime Ray Newman would appear in a flashback as Mac’s late Mrs., that show’s Miami counterpart has made a similar announcement:

Alana De La Garza, who played Horatio Caine’s wife, Marisol, until she was killed by a sniper in the show’s fourth season, will reprise that role on the season 10 premiere. How can this be? Good question.

“It is a very, very personal encounter that gives him inspiration and insight into his predicament and ultimately how that predicament is resolved,” Producer Barry O’Brien tells TV Guide, adding: “Horatio is in that transition phase where, as closure is happening, all sorts of powerful emotions rise to the surface, and there’s also… an opportunity for transition, for moving on.”

CSI: Miami returns on September 25.
