The TV world mourns the loss of a talented actress, author, and director as news broke of the passing of Shannen Doherty after several years of battling cancer.

If you grew up in the ’90s, you might recognize Shannen from the teen coming-of-age drama Beverly Hills, 90210 as Brenda Walsh. But for this viewer, she was another claim to fame for our fair city of Memphis. Greatness grows in the 901 of Tennessee.

While Beverly Hills, 90210 might have given Doherty her biggest acting break, she didn’t stop there once her career took off. We’re here to remember the magic left behind by Shannen’s forty years in the filming industry with this Shannen Doherty career retrospective.

Shannen Doherty Career Retrospective

Shannen Doherty may have been born in the M, but she moved to LA at the tender age of seven, which led to her scoring several smaller gigs before finding success in roles that launched her career.

Her charm and talents helped her get her first shot at acting in Father Murphy, a two-year family western-style series where Shannen played in two episodes. It gave her the cred to get her first big recurring role in our favorite book-turned-TV series.

Little House on the Prairie

Before the success of book to film adaptations like Harry Potter and 50 Shades of Grey, TV execs got inspiration from anthology books like Little House on the Prairie.

The TV adaptation of the book featured our beloved Doherty as the cheerful and strong-willed Jenny Wilder in the series’ ninth and last season, which consisted of 18 episodes. She reprised the role in three TV movies made after the series ended.

Headliners Michael Landon (Charles Ingalls) and Karen Grassle (Caroline Quiner Ingalls) left the show after the eighth season, making the ninth season technically a series sequel named Little House: A New Beginning.

Our House

After her success on Little House on the Prairie, Shannen did some random one-off appearances on various TV shows and movies for several years before scoring her next recurring role as Kris Witherspoon on Our House.

Shannen Doherty played in Our House as a grieving teenager experiencing the upheavals of a changing life.

Fans spent two seasons appreciating the acting chops of a young Shannen as she and her two siblings moved with their mother to live with their paternal grandfather after her father’s death.

She excelled at the role of a coming-of-age preteen struggling with drastic life changes, like a deceased father, a mother recently jumping back into the dating pool, a new school and home, and living with a grandfather she barely knows.

Heathers

Among Doherty’s many movie appearances, she had roles in several popular classics, including Heathers. Shannen played Heather Duke, a member of the popular high school clique at Westerburg High.

Among big names like Christian Slater and Winona Ryder, Doherty and her friends, all named Heather, rule the school as the clique everyone wants to belong to and hates if they don’t.

Shannen Doherty plays as Heather Duke in the '80s cult classic film, Heathers, about a group of clique popular girls named Heather.
(New World Pictures (YouTube Screenshot))

Heather was the perfect role for Shannen to portray, breaking her out of the role of the sweet, curious young girl and putting her on the path to landing some of her most successful roles as a young woman.

Years later, Shannen joined the single season Heathers TV series remake for three episodes. She played Dr. Destiny, the mother of JD, the head jock of the It group.

Beverly Hills, 90210

Brenda Walsh was Doherty’s biggest breakout role, putting her on the map for all generations. Beverly Hills, 90210 is one of those series that takes you back to the amazing times of the last century when things were so much simpler.

(Fox (YouTube Screenshot))

Not that the crew from the 90210 would agree that things were easy. The coming-of-age drama was full of teen angst, relationship hardships, and friendship frustrations. It captured everything about the teen years for the nation to love.

Brenda was part of a Beverly Hills group of eight high school friends exploring the complexities of young adulthood. During the four years and 111 episodes where Doherty played Walsh, her character had an on-and-off relationship with Dylan McKay, played by the late Luke Perry (Riverdale).

Beverly Hills, 90210 jumpstarted numerous careers of the young up-and-coming celebrities of the ’90s, including Shannen’s on-screen twin brother, Brandon, played by Jason Priestley. Other names included Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Jenny Garth, Ian Ziering, and Gabrielle Carteris.

Amid the many nostalgic reboots, The CW launched the remake, titled simply 90210, which did not have as much success as its predecessor. During the reboot, Shannen delighted us as she returned as Brenda for seven of the 114 episodes.

Beverly Hills, 90210 was such a big hit that it even inspired a single-season spinoff, BH90210, about the original seven cast members working on a reboot in an exaggerated reality show setting.

Everyone was as themselves considering resuming their previous 90210 identities, including Doherty as Brenda.

Mallrats

In the ’90s, hanging out at the mall was the thing to do if you wanted to look cool. Those who spent all their free time at the mall came to be known as mall rats.

Comedic genius Kevin Smith decided to create a movie portraying this generation of adolescents and Shannen made the perfect ex-girlfriend of Brodie (played by Jason Lee), Rene.

A melting pot of who’s who, Mallrats was a stepping stone for many stars, including the comedy duo Clerks royalty Jay and Silent Bob, played by Jason Mewes and Kevin James. It also featured Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, and Jeremy London as Quint, as the second male main character.

Young adult audiences loved the slapstick comedy and the unique humor of the best friends as they take refuge in a mall with a ragtag group of friends after getting dumped by their girlfriends.

Charmed

While 90210 was Shannen’s foray into coming-of-age teen dramas, her next largest recurring role caught the interest of a broader audience of supernatural fanatics.

Shannen Doherty plays Prue Halliwell, one of three magical witch sisters who protect the world from evil
(The WB (YouTube Screenshot))

Doherty spent three seasons and 67 episodes playing the role of Prue Halliwell, one of three charmed sister witches who spent their lives protecting the world from evil forces using the Power of Three.

Shannon’s character got killed off at the end of the third season, leaving the show to fill her role with a new sister, played by Rose McGowan, for the remainder of the broadcast.

Doherty addressed her problematic attitude with those she worked with — including her on-screen sisters, Piper and Phoebe, played by Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano — in her 2010 book, “Badass: A Hard-Earned Guide to Living Life with Style and (the Right) Attitude.”

North Shore

Shannen did a short stint of the briefly running romantic drama North Shore for eleven of the show’s 21 episodes. Her role was Alexandra, one of the beautiful, rich, and famous in Hawaii.

Shannen’s character was a snarky bitch estranged sister of Nicole Booth, played by Brooke Burns.

Shannen Doherty plays on North Shore as a rich entitled female visiting her equally entitled rich sister in Hawaii.
(Paramount+ (YouTube Screenshot))

The Fox network hoped bringing Shannen onto the show would help save its fledging ratings, despite a cast of beautiful people, like Kristoffer Polaha, Corey Sevier, Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore), Dominic Percell (Prison Break), and Jason Momoa (Aquaman).

Unfortunately, her contributions were not enough to extend the show past a single season.

Made for TV Movies

When Shannen wasn’t playing recurring roles on the series, fans enjoyed her talents in several Hollywood films and made-for-TV movies.

As with many TV celebrities, Doherty did several TV film Christmas movies during her career. In Christmas Caper, Cate Dove is a criminal thief who returns to her hometown at Christmas time to lay low and hide from the cops.

Shannen Doherty played Cate Dove, a thief in Christmas Caper, who hides from the law by babysitting her niece and nephew for the holidays.
(Freeform (YouTube Screenshot))

But with the Christmas spirit in full effect, combined with the magic of family, Cate changes her naughty ways just in time to make it a Christmas miracle.

Another Christmas movie that featured Doherty in a Christmas capacity was All I Want for Christmas. She is Brenda Patterson, the mother of a young boy who makes the Christmas wish of having different parents for the holiday.

But once his wish comes true, he wonders if it’s worth all that he’s lost. His new version of parents and life isn’t all he’s expected.

Other than Christmas films, other TV movies include His & Hers (1984), Freeze Frame, Obsessed, A Burning Passion: The Margaret Mitchell Story, Sleeping with the Devil, Another Day, Hell on Heels: The Battle of Mary Kay, Kiss Me Deadly, No One Would Tell, and List of a Lifetime.

Shannen Doherty Single Time Appearances

Like most stars, Doherty appeared on various TV series on a one-off basis. We saw her on classic shows like Voyagers!, Magnum, P.I., Highway to Heaven, The New Leave it to Beaver, 21 Jump Street, Rebel Highway, and Riverdale.

Shannen Doherty played a short role in The CW's popular series Riverdale.
(The CW (YouTube Screenshot))

It’s always fun when you know a celebrity so well that you can spot them in cameo roles on random shows in simple roles.

Shannen’s first cameo was in 1992 on a largely unknown TV series, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. She played herself again in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in 2001.

She also loved popping up in music videos like Slaughter and The Bellamy Brothers. She has a few uncredited roles, like Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult and Love, Inc.

Gone But Eternally Glorified in Everything

While Shannen may no longer be here, fans will continue to remember her in spirit and with all of her work.

There were many questions when Shannen Doherty was written out of Charmed following its third season in 2001.

Now, over 22 years later, details are beginning to trickle out about what happened behind the scenes of the supernatural WB drama.

In the latest episode of Doherty's Let's Be Clear podcast, Holly Marie Combs revealed their costar Alyssa Milano got Doherty fired.

Why Was Shannen Doherty Fired From Charmed?

"He said, 'We didn't mean to — but we've been backed into this corner — we're basically in this position where it's one or the other,'" she dished.

"'We were told [by Alyssa] it's her or [Shannen] and Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment.'"

Combs was taken aback by the drama because she didn't feel anything that happened with the ladies could be characterized as a "hostile workplace environment."

Shannen Doherty Spent a Year Trying to Pinpoint What Went Wrong

For her part, Doherty said she spent a year after her firing "replaying everything in my brain and really trying to find those moments."

"I don't ever remember being mean to her on set."

"I remember an episode I directed where she did something on the Christmas break," Doherty recalled.

"They asked me to work around some things with her, and I had no problem with it.

"I couldn't have been more kind and understanding."

How Does Shannen Doherty Feel About Alyssa Milano Today?

Doherty opened up about how she feels today after the years have passed since being let go.

"As you get older, you accept that a situation happened. Acceptance and moving on with your life does not equate to forgiveness," she added.

"You just learn a lesson and look at somebody differently and move on."

The podcast episode was the second part of diving into the fraught dynamic between Doherty and Milano.

Shannen Doherty Cites "Competitiveness" With Alyssa Milano

Earlier this month, the first part was made available, and Doherty said there was a "competitiveness" with Milano and a "lack of female support."

Doherty also opened up about being shut out of the hospital when she tried to visit Combs, who had surgery early in the show's run.

"Hospitals scared me to death. I waited 24 hours after your surgery to go, and then it wasn't even easy for me to get in," the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum said.

"I was like, being told I couldn't even get in by Alyssa and her mom.

"They were blocking people from seeing you, and at the time, you didn't know."

"I remembered you texted me and were like, 'Dude, are you going to come and see me?' And I can feel like your pain of feeling like I'd abandoned you," she recalled.

"But I also felt like my anger at the situation of not being allowed to come see you, and like how sort of family had like swooped in and caused like this sort of weird divide between the two of us that then continued throughout Season 2 where I think I cried every single night of Season 2."

Rose McGowan Replaced Shannen Doherty on Charmed

Charmed replaced Doherty with Rose McGowan one season later.

"There was too much drama on the set and not enough passion for the work," Doherty told Entertainment Tonight at the time of her departure.

"You know, I'm 30 years old, and I don't have time for drama in my life anymore," she added.

Shannen Doherty reunited with her Charmed family over the weekend during 90s Con.

Fans booed the newest chapter in the franchise, with Doherty declaring that it was "not cool," according to People.

"Don't boo to people who supply literally hundreds and hundreds of people with their job," Dogert said during the panel alongside Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan, Drew Fuller, Brian Krause, and Dorian Gregory.

Doherty said that the new Charmed was for a younger generation.

"I've met a lot of people that have bonded just like all of you have bonded, right where this Charmed got you through a lot of life experiences [and] brought you and your family close to get closer together, there's a whole other generation that felt the same thing with the new Charmed," she said.

"It may be for all of us to be like 'Well, it would be nice to be asked to be on the show,' but you know, when they created their own thing and did it, I applaud them for supplying a lot of jobs. And they're incredibly nice people, FYI."

The star went on to say that the original WB series will always stand on its own.

"We're [the] originals," she added.

Doherty also gave fans a health update during the panel.

"I'm feeling great, thank you! … This crowd is amazing!"

Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and revealed she was in remission two years later.

In 2020, the actress revealed the cancer had returned as Stage 4.

The original Charmed aired from 1998-2006, with Doherty starring in the first three seasons.

The CW's reboot was said to have been a separate story from the original, but the 2022 series finale concluded with the new generation of Charmed ones arriving at Halliwell Manor, setting the stage for crossovers.

Unfortunately, Charmed was one of the casualties of The CW's mass cancellations as it prepared to trim much of its content ahead of the Nexstar takeover.

One thing that's been evident since the original series went off the air, fans are interested in more from the original stars.

It would be great if fans got an updated TV movie or series featuring some original stars.

TV characters come and go, but sometimes they don't get the sendoff they deserve. Check out our picks for the 13 worst sendoffs in TV history.

TV characters often feel like friends, especially if we spend time with them week after week.

Saying goodbye is always tough. But it's worse when the characters don't even get the send-off they deserve.

There have been many awful send-offs, ranging from characters just disappearing, never to be heard from again, to being killed off in ridiculous ways.

Many characters seem to suffer from Chuckie Cunningham Syndrome — here one week, gone the next, never to be heard from again.

Every classic series does this.

13 TV Characters That Got the Worst Sendoffs

Golden Girls' pilot featured Coco, a gay servant who quietly disappeared before the show's official first episode.

All in the Family had a decent send-off for Henry Jefferson, but after his going-away party, he disappeared from the characters' memories as well as from the Jeffersons' home.

And of course, there's Chuckie Cunningham himself, who went upstairs one day and never came down.

There are lots of TV characters who didn't get the send-off they deserved both on classic and modern series. We chose 13 of TV's worst send-offs; please scroll down to check out our picks!

Paige Larson – Days of Our Lives

Days of Our Lives has had some ridiculous exits over the years (Don Craig going to the mailbox, completely disappearing, and not even being mentioned again until 30+ years later comes to mind!). But one of the most egregious was Paige Larson's death in 2015.

JJ and Paige had a promising love story until the writers destroyed it.

Twisting JJ out of character to turn him into a drunk who slept with Paige's evil mother was bad enough, but Paige's unnecessary death at the hands of the Necktie Killer just as the two were finding their way back to each other was unforgivable.

And to add insult to injury, Paige is barely mentioned in the years since, unless it's part of a revenge plot against Ben for killing her. The character deserved better than this!

Mateo Rendón Osma – The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor went to all the trouble of bringing Mateo back from Guatemala to be Lim's love interest and controversial addition to the staff at St. Bonaventure.

But then he disappeared.

Did anyone buy the after-the-fact explanation from his ex-girlfriend that Mateo compulsively travels to save the world? He and Lim didn't even get a goodbye scene, making his short inclusion in the series seem pointless.

Stevie Hammer – Chicago Med

Similarly, Stevie was supposed to be yet another of Will Halstead's love interests. She showed up at the beginning of Chicago Med Season 5 with an arrogant attitude and a history with Will.

While she wasn't a particularly likable character, the way she was written out made no sense. After spending half her time at Med dealing with her mentally ill mother's homelessness, Stevie suddenly left town to finalize her divorce… and reconciled with her ex-husband offscreen.

This was a silly and abrupt exit, and she was quickly replaced with another blond that Will had history with. Was there a point to her being there in the first place?

Dana Lewis – Law & Order: SVU

We weren't happy with Stabler's sudden disappearance in 2012, but Law & Order: SVU rectified that when he returned to the franchise. His foil, Dana Lewis, is another story.

Dana was a relatively minor character, but still. Her primary purpose was to accidentally make life difficult for Stabler while pursuing justice.

So why bring her back after Stabler left, especially if the only reason was to reveal that she'd been covering up a murder for years? They could have left her character alone.

Richard Wheatley – Law & Order: Organized Crime

Wheatley was the Moriarity to Stabler's Sherlock. After being unfairly exonerated in Kathy's death, he and Stabler began a dangerous competition of one-upmanship. They pushed each other's buttons while Wheatley wreaked havoc throughout New York City.

Since he was such an important character, he deserved a better send-off than a missing body after a theoretically unsurvivable auto accident.

The writers wanted to keep the door open in case Dylan McDermott is available to return (he's migrated over to the other side of the law on FBI: Most Wanted now). But come on! What kind of ending was that?

Linda Reagan – Blue Bloods

The decision to kill off Linda Reagan was one of the long-running cop family drama's most controversial.

Amy Carlson chose not to return for Blue Bloods Season 8, so the writers killed her off. But fans found out after the fact; her death was offscreen.

When actors aren't available, writing out their characters becomes tricky. Still, Linda was the closest thing to a Reagan family matriarch and allowing her to die offscreen felt disrespectful.

Mon-El – Supergirl

Mon-El had a life in the present that included a romantic relationship, yet he randomly had to return to the future.

Supposedly, this was the only way to save it, but his exit made no sense.

He and Kara had been through a lot, yet neither of them had a problem with him needing to disappear into another timeline. This decision was clearly not character-driven.

Mulan – Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time has a bad habit of writing poor character exits, but Mulan's was among the worst.

Her heartbreak over Philip and Aurora was understandable, but her disappearance without explanation right after she joined the Merry Men was not.

Her sudden disappearance was a blow to both the LGBTQ+ community and viewers of color. And to make matters worse, when she finally came back on Once Upon a Time Season 5, we STILL weren't given any explanation, nor was she given anything more to do than be a sounding board for Ruby's love life.

Prue Halliwell – Charmed

This is another case of a character dying between seasons. At least there was some indication this one might be coming, but still.

Prue's life hung in the balance at the end of Charmed Season 3, only for the new season to open with her already dead.

While the actress' unavailability played a part in this, just as Amy Carlson's did on Blue Bloods Season 8 Episode 1, it still felt too abrupt. Fans needed closure that they never got, and the series never seemed the same afterward.

Molly – Burden of Truth

Molly and Luna's breakup was understandable. Luna was stuck in jail for a crime she didn't commit, and there was no telling when she might get out.

But did that mean Molly had to disappear into thin air?

She was still Billy's niece, and they didn't have a falling out, as far as we know. Yet she was never mentioned again as if she never existed.

Jimmy/Henry James Olsen – Smallville

This exit wasn't just senseless. It was confusing, too.

Jimmy died just after learning the truth about Clark. But wait! He wasn't Jimmy.

Henry James Olsen went by his middle name even though his younger brother had the same first name. Seriously?

Dave Rygalski – Gilmore Girls

It's okay to break up because one person moves away. It's even acceptable to do it after trying to do long-distance and finding it's not working.

But it's not okay that Dave simply disappeared. All of a sudden, Lane was single again.

After investing emotionally in this couple, the least we deserved is a scene where they agreed to go their separate ways.

Cordelia Chase – Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This one is a bit different from the rest of our list. Cordelia did get a touching, beautiful swan song, after all.

But we have a problem with the way it was handled behind the scenes. Charisma Carpenter had been promised that her character wouldn't be killed off if she returned for a final episode.

The writers broke that promise, and that's not cool.

One of Charmed's original writers took to social media with harsh criticism of the reboot, and it caught the attention of the reboot's writers.

The reboot of Charmed wrapped its four-season run last week with an episode that took to the witches — Maggie, Mel, and Kaela — to the location of the original series.

In one of the most shocking scenes in recent memory, the witches were at Halliwell Manor, the place Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige called home in the original show.

Curtis Kheel, who worked on the first Charmed series, took to Twitter to respond to the development.

“As an original #Charmed writer, I can tell u what happened next: Piper, Phoebe & Paige vanquished the 3 imposters right after they invaded Halliwell Manor,” Kheel tweeted.

“Then @H_Combs blew up the portal to that other universe & quipped: ‘We wish them well.’ #seriesfinale #CharmedReunionMovie.”

Maggie - Charmed (2018) Season 3 Episode 1 - Charmed (2018)
(The CW)

The Tweet caught the attention of the official Twitter account for the writers of The CW's reboot.

“Unlike with the OG version of the franchise, we had a strict ‘no assholes’ hiring policy in the writer’s room," the account shared in response to Kheel's social media post.

"We feel mostly sorry for these people, because unlike them we actually like each other and had the BEST time. Onward….”

Harry - Charmed (2018) Season 3 Episode 1 - Charmed (2018)
(The CW)

“And for the record, we LOVE both versions, which is why we set out to create a cohesive universe. In our minds there is zero competition in a long line of strong young witches tasked with repeatedly saving the world. –FIN," the writers wrote in a follow-up tweet.

Kheel further opened up about his disdain for the reboot hours later.

“My problem with the #Charmedreboot is that from Day One, it pretended like the original #Charmed didn’t exist, yet it borrowed a ton of ideas from it,” he wrote across a series of tweets.

“We worked very hard on the OG series for many years & to disregard that is offensive & disrespectful to US & our fans.”

Mel - Charmed (2018) Season 3 Episode 2 - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

"Now at the 11th Hour, with the cancellation ax swinging, they reverse course & decide to embrace the original #Charmed in a desperate attempt to save the #reboot," he continued.

"They'd realized it was a huge mistake to alienate fans of the OG series by ignoring it. Too little, too late."

Kheel went on to say that it should be a lesson to "respect the original property & creators who came before you," if you're working on a remake of a legacy property.

Vivienne - Charmed (2018) Season 3 Episode 2 - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

There were several attempts to reboot Charmed by both CBS and The CW over the years, with the latter network landing on a project that focused on a new group of witches.

The series finale of Charmed took viewers back to the Halliwell Manor from the original series, with showrunners revealing their plan to bring back original stars.

Now, that's how you get fans talking.

For four seasons, The CW's Charmed reboot has forged its own path, taking viewers well away from the world of the original series.

However, Friday's emotional series finale concluded with one of the most shocking scenes ever.

An Ancient Evil - Charmed (2018)
(Bettina Strauss/The CW)

The Charmed ones – Mel, Maggie, and Kaela – found a mysterious door that gave them pause.

“Are we sure about this? Another world? Other Charmed Ones?” Mel asked.

Who Are You Now? - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

On the other side of the door, the witches found themselves at Halliwell Manor, aka the setting for the original series, which starred Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, and Alyssa Milano.

The sisters vowed to see who lived in the iconic location.

It was quite the scene — and set-up — for another season.

Unfortunately, fans will be waiting with bated breaths because The CW canceled the series after four seasons, meaning there will likely never be resolution.

The Search Begins - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

In an interview with TV Line, the showrunners opened up about the decision to end the series on such an almighty cliffhanger.

Joey Falco said the creatives were well aware that the series was on the bubble, so they "wanted to end on something that could move forward but could also be a satisfying conclusion."

Falco added, "We wanted to eventually tie these universes together."

"We were going to do it in a much bigger, crazier way at a certain point, but since we knew there was a chance we were getting canceled, this was the sweet spot where we felt like we got to do what we’ve always wanted to do — make it a Charmed multiverse — but also end in a way that’s hopeful and satisfying and wraps up everyone’s emotions."

Different Reactions - Charmed (2018)
(Bettina Strauss/The CW)

Cool, right?

The plan was to show how these universes were tied together in a potential fifth season, and co-showrunner Jeffrey Lieber said that meant reaching out to legacy cast members.

"We would have seen [which cast members were] around and amenable," Lieber shared.

"There were going to be phone calls made about which cast members are available and who’s willing to do it," Falco explained to TV Line.

Fun Times - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

"We had a very flexible plan based on [those logistics], but we never had those conversations because we weren’t going to have them until we got a pick-up. So we’ll never know who may or may not have made an appearance."

Despite small references here and there, the reboot has largely forgotten about the world that came before it.

It's sad, but it's true:

The series finale of Charmed airs in just over two weeks.

The CW has dropped some plot details for Charmed Season 4 Episode 13, which doubles as a season and series finale.

Charmed Season 4 Cast - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

Given how late in the game the network canceled the drama about witches, many thought we wouldn't get an ending that featured plenty of closure.

"In the epic season finale, Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) and Kaela (Lucy Barrett), along with Harry (Rupert Evans) and Jordan (Jordan Donica), have now discovered that the cabal of foes coalescing to bring down the Power of Three are actually working for an ancient evil that’s been laying dormant since the dawn of magic," the network's official description for the episode reads.

The Search Begins - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

"This powerful dark force — known as the Lost One — will be the ultimate test of the strength of the newly discovered sisterhood; forcing them to rekindle their connection…or face the destruction of magic itself."

Charmed came into its own this season under new leadership, with another Charmed one being brought into the mix.

If you watch Charmed online, you know the series has regained focus this season by bringing a new villain into the world of the series.

The official Charmed writers' Twitter account took to social media shortly after The CW canceled Charmed to reveal that they had been working towards closure.

Who Are You Now? - Charmed (2018)
(Colin Bentley/The CW)

"As you can tell by the amount of change happening today, we — the writers — were always aware that cancellation was possible," reads the Tweet.

"As such, we wrote toward closure. Meaning, we're not leaving you hanging."

"Moreover, there are some really, really, really cool things happening right up to the final frame."

"So, if you've been with us, and are willing to stay with us, we promise you won't be left in the lurch."

Fun Times - Charmed (2018)

"The last 5 episodes (starting tomorrow) are full of deep mythos, which we're hoping you're really enjoy," the statement concludes.

With the news that The CW has canceled around half of their scripted shows, there's a silver lining for fans of Charmed.

The series, under the leadership of Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco and Nicki Renna, has crafted its best season yet, so it's unfortunate that it's being canceled in its prime.

However, the Charmed writers social media account shared Thursday night, hours after the cancellation announcement, that they worked towards closure with the season finale.

If you watch Charmed online, you know the series pivoted with its most recent season by introducing a new witch into the mix, played by Lucy Barrett.

While many shows struggle after the loss of a lead, Charmed flourished, and Barrett was an excellent addition to the cast, working alongside Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, Rupert Evans, and Jordan Donica.

It is nice to know that we can watch the series with an end in mind. There's nothing worse than hanging on for a show you love, only to get zero closure.

Many of the canceled shows on The CW ended without closure.

Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and Naomi had already wrapped their seasons prior to the cancellation announcement.

Roswell, New Mexico and In the Dark have yet to star their now-final seasons, but it's possible there will be some editing of the finales to remove cliffhangers.

The CW's Charmed is getting a major overhaul.

Just weeks after the controversial announcement that Madeleine Mantock has exited the series, comes another big announcement:

There will be new creative leadership for Charmed Season 4.

(Colin Bentley/The CW)

TV Line is reporting that Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, who took over as co-showrunners for Charmed Season 2, are vacating their roles.

In their places are Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco, and Nicki Renna“We have treasured our time on Charmed during the last two seasons and look forward to continuing on as executive producers while we pursue our development with CBS Studios,” Kruger and Shapiro announced in a statement to TV Line.

“We are excited for the fans to see what the new team of Nicki, Joey and Jeffrey have in store for Season 4 and are confident that the show is in excellent hands!”

“We feel super blessed to be taking the helm at this moment when things are starting over,” Lieber shared.

“We’re bringing in a totally new character who we can do anything with, and it’s just exciting. We hope to make a season where it’s like, ‘Buckle up and strap in, because anything’s possible.'”

Added Falco, “I’ve been on this show since Day 1, and I’ve had three years now to see different showrunners put different spins on the series."

"[Renna and I] have had a lot of time to think about things we want to see more of on the show. We both have weird, quirky senses of humor and sensibilities. We’re looking forward to taking that and putting it front and center.”

“We’ve all been here in the trenches, shaping this show and loving it,” Renna says.

“It’s been like raising a child together. We’re excited to step into more of a leadership position and take the show to places we’ve been wanting to, with storylines and emotional arcs that really excite us."

"We’re three very different people in terms of our personalities, backgrounds and interests, but we work really well together.”

Much of the criticism of the recent episodes of Charmed has been on how the series has failed to address the sisterly bond, regularly putting it on the backburner to focus on other plots.

The good news is that the new showrunners also revealed in an expansive preview that their plan is to make the show about the sisters again, which, qutie frankly, is music to my ears.

It's also possible there could be a curveball thrown in when it comes to the identity of the new sister, with Lieber admitting that the show does not want to rely on Marisol's secrets to bring in the new character.

There is so much more good stuff about the fourth season, which you can read here.

Charmed Season 4 is set for a 2022 bow on The CW, and we'll have more intel on the new sister nearer the time.

For now, though, what are your thoughts on the creative overhaul?
