Like any other character-based storytelling format, television is chock full of common tropes.

Sometimes, tropes are overdone or offensive, but they often exist to give the audience a sense of familiarity and relatability.

If I had to choose a favorite trope, it would be the concept of found family, and I wouldn’t even have to think about it.

Christopher Visits - 9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 11
(Jack Zeman/FOX)

A grouchy, tough boss has a soft spot for a rough-around-the-edge intern and becomes a parental figure for them.

A set of childhood best friends grow into adulthood together, sharing all of life’s challenges and celebrations like siblings.

Sometimes, a character gets the “Dirty Uncle Sal” treatment.

As Meredith Grey so eloquently put it on Grey’s Anatomy, this character is “the one who embarrasses everyone at family reunions … but you invite him to the picnic anyway.”

No matter how the relationship dynamic plays out, these platonic friendships that morph into families who do life together will always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

There are hundreds of examples of families found on television, but we’ve gathered a few that stand out for us to celebrate the trope.

Meredith Grey and Richard Webber: Grey’s Anatomy

Another Exam
(ABC)

The writers of TV’s longest-running medical drama could host a master class in the art of creating a found family.

Over the years, characters have built families with the coworkers they see constantly.

But one of the most realistic examples of chosen family on Grey’s Anatomy is in the daughter/father dynamic between Meredith and Richard.

The love hasn’t always been reciprocated, but Webber has considered himself responsible for Meredith since her first day as an intern.

Despite the ups and downs in their relationship (and I mean a LOT of them), these two have always been family.

We even saw a glimpse of what life might have been like if Richard had raised Meredith in Grey’s Anatomy Season 8 Episode 13.

Evan “Buck” Buckley and Christopher Diaz: 9-1-1

An Embrace - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 2
(Victor Ceballos/FOX)

9-1-1 is another show that doesn’t hold back when it comes to creating a family feel.

Perhaps the most meaningful example of this on the show is the relationship between Buck and Christopher.

Christopher isn’t biologically related to Buck; he’s the son of Buck’s closest friend and partner, Eddie.

But that has never stopped Buck from loving Christopher like his own and stepping in as a parental figure when needed.

In a testament to their bond, Eddie named Buck in his will as Christopher’s legal guardian in the event of Eddie’s death.

Christopher trusts Buck even when he can’t talk to his dad, and Buck has proven time and time again that he’s worthy of that trust.

April Ludgate and Leslie Knope: Parks and Recreation

The Trash Ladies
(Colleen Hayes/NBC)

April may have a snarky attitude and pretend she’s too cool for school, but the love she has for Leslie shines through on Parks and Recreation.

Leslie isn’t old enough to be April’s mother, but she’s certainly acted in a big sister capacity over the years.

As April’s boss, Leslie always did a great job of supporting her professionally.

More importantly, she showed up for April outside of work, supporting her through years of major life changes.

No matter how hard April tried to feign otherwise, she loved and appreciated Leslie’s advice and support and frequently sought it out.

Leslie’s influence is directly responsible for much of April’s growth, and April shows her gratitude in her own way.

Rosa Diaz and Jake Peralta: Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Rosa and Jake - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 14
(John P. Fleenor/NBC)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is another one of those shows where everyone feels connected to each other in a familial way.

Jake even slips up more than once and calls Captain Holt “Dad,” if that tells you anything about their relationship.

But one of the most special duos on this show is Jake and Rosa, best friends who act more like siblings.

They bicker and fight, but they always have each other’s backs at work and in their personal lives.

When Rosa came out as bisexual, Jake stood by her side as she navigated coming out to her parents, who were less than supportive.

And for her part, Rosa showed up for Jake to back him up in his many, many shenanigans, often getting him out of messes he created himself.

Stella Kidd and Wallace Boden: Chicago Fire

Boden Listens to Kidd - Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 3
(Adrian S Burrows Sr/NBC)

Found family in a firehouse is almost a given, so this may be too easy.

Still, no one was more devastated about Chief Boden’s departure from 51 than Stella.

She viewed him as a father figure who was always available for advice and encouragement.

Boden saw Stella as a daughter and would have done anything she needed at any time.

The bond these two shared was just one of many examples of beautiful platonic friendships on Chicago Fire.

Through good times and bad, Boden and Stella set a fantastic example of how powerful chosen family can be.

Billy Baker and Spencer James: All American

Coaching Spencer - All American Season 1 Episode 13
(Erik Voake/The CW)

Billy Baker treated Spencer as another son from the minute he moved him into his house so he could be a star player on the Beverly football team.

While it was originally about the team and Spencer’s potential, they grew to care deeply about each other over the years.

When Billy died during All American Season 5, it devastated Spencer because they had been arguing and had not made peace yet.

When Billy makes a ghostly visit in Season 6, he tries to help all his children, including Spencer.

Amanda Wagner and Will Trent: Will Trent

Amanda Breaks Down - Will Trent
Amanda breaks down when the threats become worse. (Disney/Daniel Delgado Jr.)

Amanda appears as a tough old bird, but she has always considered Will to be part of her family.

At the end of Will Trent Season 1, it was revealed that she found baby Will in the trash can and tried to raise him herself.

However, society didn’t let single African-American women keep infants, and she had to give him back, but she gave him a part of her, his name.

She also gave him a job at the GBI, and Will was always loyal to her.

Harlan “Sonny” Jennings and Emily “Em” Wright: HI-Surf

Sonny and Em are on patrol during Rescue HI-Surf Season 1 Episode 1.
(Zach Dougan/FOX)

Em is the only one who can ever really call Sonny out.

Unlike others in his life, Em doesn’t hold back.

You can always tell how hard it is on him when he feels like he has disappointed her and not met her expectations.

They have such a strong dynamic, and you can tell there’s a lot of history there that the series hasn’t even begun to dig into.

Vince Leone and Jake Crawford: Fire Country

Jake and Vince Leone share a tense conversation - Fire Country Season 2 Episode 7
(Sergei Bachlakov/CBS)

Vince Leone always reads as very paternal when it comes to both Jake and Eve on Fire Country.

He considered both of them his other children, and that especially was solidified when his and Sharon’s daughter died, and Bode went to prison.

In work environments, there is a healthy dose of respect, but you also get the sense that Vince is the dad of the house.

Just as quickly as he extends advice to both Jake and Eve, they also confront him in a way you’d expect from children calling out their parents.

Melinda “Mel” Monroe and Vernon “Doc” Mullins: Virgin River

Doc and Mel Fish - Virgin River Season 5 Episode 8
(COURTESY OF NETFLIX)

Funnily enough, when Mel first got there, Doc seemed to hate her and didn’t want her around at all.

But they eventually settled into a beautiful rhythm and developed this very special filial relationship, which is almost as much at the center of the show as her romance with Jack.

Doc never had the opportunity to raise children, but you can tell he pours all of this fatherly affection and love into Mel. As for Mel, she returns his affection in kind.

The two share a bond that includes confiding in each other, seeking out advice, holding secrets, and comforting each other.

In fact, the upcoming season of Virgin River will be interesting as Mel explores a relationship with her biological father.

Because she and Doc have been so close for the past few years, it makes you wonder if he’ll feel a pang of jealousy or resentment.

Susannah Fisher and Isabel “Belly” Conklin: The Summer I Turned

Resting with Susannah - The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 8
(Erica Doss/Amazon)

Pretty

Sadly, this mother-daughter dynamic on The Summer I Turned Pretty ended in tragedy.

But Belly looked to Susannah as a second mother and, at times, had a stronger relationship with Susannah than she did with her own mom.

And Susannah, given that she only had two sons, always viewed Belly as her daughter.

It made things interesting since Susannah actively rooted for Belly to be with one of her sons; her opinion on this matter adds weight to the already complicated and messy love triangle between Belly and the two brothers.

Still, Belly and Susannah sometimes felt more like mother and daughter than she did with her actual mom.

As a result, Belly’s grief over Susannah’s passing has fundamentally shaped who she is as a young woman moving forward and made her grief story carry just as much weight as that of Conrad and Jeremiah’s.

There’s no shortage of TV characters lacking motivation, and lots of us can probably relate.

Whether you’re a pro at snoozing your alarm every morning or you can’t find the energy to clean out that attic you’ve been meaning to get to, you know motivation can be hard to come by.

The comforting news is that you’re not alone.

Lead photo for 11 TV Characters Seriously Lacking Motivation featuring Mindy St. Claire from The Good Place
(NBC/Netflix Screenshot)

Some of our favorite characters struggle with getting motivated, and honestly, we’re thankful for the representation.

We’re taking a look at some of those characters who make us feel better about sleeping in for just five more minutes.

Al Bundy Pays Bills
(Embassy Television/YouTube Screenshot)

Al Bundy — Married … With Children

Al from Married … With Children has a shoe store job, but he’s otherwise the epitome of lazy and unmotivated.

If he had his way, he would live on his couch, and honestly, he does on many of the show’s episodes.

It’s like pulling teeth for his wife or anyone else to get him to do anything that requires effort.

When he is doing anything, it’s usually done with the least effort possible.

Steven Hyde in That '70s Show
(Carsey-Werner-Mandabach Productions/Screenshot)

Steven Hyde — That ’70s Show

Hyde was so smart, but he didn’t want to do much of anything.

He mostly just spent his time on screen on That ’70s Show, judging other people and criticizing the world as a whole.

With a little effort, he could have done a lot more with his life.

Instead, he spent his time working dead-end jobs like the Fotohut.

(Warner Bros. TV/Screenshot)

Joey Tribbiani — Friends

Nobody can question Joey’s loyalty.

He’s kind and generous, and his presence on Friends made the show what it was.

His energy level is also not in question since he always seems upbeat and willing to do things with the rest of the group.

Yet, most people want a hobby or something.

Joey?

He just usually wants a girl or a snack, making him one of our favorite characters lacking motivation.

Todd Chavez from Bojack Horseman
(Netflix/Screenshot)

Todd Chavez — Bojack Horseman

Todd is a professional couch-surfer. He doesn’t fail upward so much as horizontally, moving from Bojack Horseman‘s couch to Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter’s house. He even ends up staying at Princess Caroline’s apartment.

He’s drawn as a prototypical slacker from a decade ago, complete with stubble, hoodie, knit cap, track pants, and flip-flops.

He’s amenable and nonjudgmental, and even though he’s technically unemployed, he works hard at taking care of the people around him.

He has various offbeat job stints and is also pretty creative. He can work tirelessly if he’s interested in something (like building Henry Fondle, the sex robot from household appliances, and a Speak & Spell) but is virtually catatonic otherwise.

Bojack often uses Todd as a punching bag and can be pretty mean to him, but Todd somehow remains cheerful, which gets under Bojack’s self-loathing skin and probably perpetuates that cycle of behavior.

Todd is oddly as much the moral center of the show as Diane and serves as both a comedic foil and a vulnerable dramatic character.

Maribeth Monroe as Mindy St. Claire on The Good Place.
(NBC/Netflix Screenshot)

Mindy St. Claire — The Good Place

Mindy is a deceased corporate lawyer and addict who died in the process of founding a charity she had planned during a cocaine high.

After her death, the charity generated enough good points that her point total exceeded that required to enter The Good Place.

As a compromise, the Judge ruled that she would receive her own private Medium Place, where everything is mediocre and grounded in the 1980s.

Despite the fact that there’s nothing going on in her afterlife, Mindy is content to go with the flow and doesn’t concern herself with the idea of moving up in the world.

Dejected Jeff
(NBC)

Jeff Winger — Community

Jeff is the main character on Community, and he is always focused on the wrong thing.

He’s been known to look for the easiest way out of things, like when he got a fake college degree instead of going to school.

He also tried to cheat his way through community college.

Jeff relies on his much more motivated classmates, like Annie and Shirley, to do most of the work on group projects.

The only time Jeff puts forth any effort into anything is when he’s trying to mess with someone.

He’s a pretty terrible friend, and those close to him often pay the price for his laziness.

April - Parks & Rec - Parks and Recreation
(Ben Cohen/NBC)

April Ludgate — Parks and Recreation

Don’t get me wrong, April is one of my favorite characters on Parks and Recreation.

Later on in the series, she shows serious passion and work ethic once she finds something that she genuinely cares about.

But when we first meet April, she’s highly unmotivated and disengaged from work.

She shows up every day but does the bare minimum to get by.

While her boss, Ron, is pleased by her inaction in the office due to his anti-government beliefs, April’s lack of interest in doing anything doesn’t impress others as much.

To be fair, most of us were probably a bit lost at 19!

Should He Listen? - Family Guy
(FOX/Screenshot)

Peter Griffin — Family Guy

Peter is the stereotypical useless TV husband.

On Family Guy, he expects his wife to do everything at home, including the bulk of raising their children.

The rare occasions in which he spends time with the kids usually involve him bullying them.

Peter is the kind of guy who expects everything to be done for him.

Luckily for him, his wife Lois is a superhero because she manages to pick up all his slack.

Her dad sees through Peter’s funny-guy persona, though, and never misses an opportunity to call him out as a character lacking motivation.

The Reunion Heist - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
(NBC)

Hitchcock and Scully — Brooklyn Nine-Nine

On Brooklyn Nine-Nine, these two always come as a pair.

They’ve been partners for decades, and the only thing that motivates them is finding ways to get out of doing things.

You can usually find them getting up to ridiculous shenanigans involving food.

Both Hitchcock and Scully embody the stereotype of the lazy, donut-loving cop.

Kevin's Chili - The Office
(NBC)

Kevin Malone — The Office

Kevin is kind of a lovable oaf.

He manages to hold a job in accounting at Dunder Mifflin, but no one really knows how.

He doesn’t seem like he knows what he’s doing.

Kevin is much more likely to get energized over the idea of a work potluck than his job.

Still, he’s the star of some of the funniest scenes on The Office.

Jason Earles as Jackson Stewart on Hannah Montana
(Disney/Screenshot)

Jackson Stewart — Hannah Montana

Miley Stewart lived a double life as a normal teenager by day and a global pop star by night.

Her older brother Jackson couldn’t have been more different.

He was resourceful enough that he constantly concocted ways to get out of his responsibilities.

His dad tried to motivate him in about a hundred ways, but nothing seemed to work.

His job at Rico’s Surf Shop may have kept his wallet full, but like most of our characters lacking motivation, Jackson almost never put in more effort than he had to.

Still, his goofy antics kept fans of this Disney classic entertained.

Ivan Sleeps - Tall - Upload Season 3 Episode 1
(Liane Hentscher/Amazon Prime Video)

What unmotivated characters make you feel seen?

Don’t be shy. We won’t judge. At least, we’ll try not to!

Some actors have mastered the art of comedy, cementing their character in fans' minds as someone with a distinct sense of humor.

It can be difficult to stand out as a character known for your sense of humor, given the fact that everyone has a different idea of what is funny.

There is your standard comedian who can tell a joke and think on their feet. Other times, the comedy comes from a certain type of stupidity where it is so dumb it is funny.

Some thrive because of their dry sense of humor or cynicism, and physical, witty, observational, self-deprecating, sarcastic, and satirical humor all have homes, too.

(Fox/Youtube Screenshot)

There are the ones who try to be funny and the ones who don’t, who might be meant to be laughed at rather than with, and all leave impressions.

Regardless of the type, the one thing distinguishing a character for their sense of humor is their delivery, which has to be believable. It is not just what you say but also how you say it that resonates with audiences.

And these characters, in no particular order, have certainly defined themselves as obtaining a unique sense of humor.

Charlie Kelly – It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

From bashing rats to being an illiterate who knows German to huffing paint to knowing how to play instruments and coming up with songs on the spot, Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day) is a prime example of absurd comedy.

Charlie has “Gone America All Over Everybody’s Ass,” proved he isn’t white trash by the motility of his jean shorts, put on his Nightman Cometh musical, has to be told not to try to swim to Europe, and has a real cheese addiction.

Charlie Day as Charlie Kelly on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
(FX/Hulu Screenshot)

There is also the great moment when Mac and Dennis try to help him set up a dating app profile.

His likes? Little green ghouls. Hobby? Magnets. Favorite food? Milk steak. Dislikes? People’s knees. I mean, cover your knees up if you’re gonna be walking around everywhere…

What does he pretend his career is on the date? Well, he tries to say philanthropist, but the words “get blocked up in [his] mouth and [he] don’t say it no good,” so “full-on rapist” is what ends up coming out.

Larry David – Curb Your Enthusiasm

Larry David is “pretty, pretty” hilarious. His obscure opinions on society’s norms and taboos lead him to say and do things that scream cringe.

Larry David plays a fictionalized version of himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
(HBO/Youtube Screenshot)

This fictional version of himself is brilliant, unconventional, opinionated, and easily hated, yet there will be moments you find yourself agreeing.

We all put people in our phones using a one-word identifying descriptor, pick up hookers to use the carpool lane, wear MAGA hats so no one wants to have any social interaction with us, pretend to be an Orthodox Jew to get our best friend a kidney faster…

Related: How Technology Changed TV Tropes Forever

The show is unscripted and ridiculous, and no one could ever dream of recreating Larry David’s sense of humor.

Gregory Eddie – Abbott Elementary

Abbott Elementary has a deep talent pool, and there is no shortage of humor on the hit sitcom.

Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie on Abbott Elementary whose character is known for his side eye.
(ABC/Youtube Screenshot)

However, Gregory Eddie’s (Tyler James Williams) subtle humor is underrated.

His facial expressions, timing, and consistency are top-notch.

His effortless and simple facial expressions are what set his character apart.

The way he takes Ava’s crude and flirtatious comments leaves fans cracking up.

His side eyes and how he looks into the camera do not go unnoticed. It is physical comedy at its finest.

Lucille Bluth – Arrested Development

The Lucille Bluth lines are endless…

“I wanna cry so bad, but I don’t think I can spare the moisture.”

Lucille Bluth is the matriarch with a blunt sense of humor in Arrested Development.
(Fox/Youtube Screenshot)

“Your wrist is testing the tensile strength of that bracelet.”

“It’s one banana, Michael, what could it cost, 10 dollars?”

Her drinking problem is also an amazing center of her humor, ordering vodka on the rocks with a piece of toast for breakfast, winning a drinking contest while in rehab, saying people hate hospitals because there aren’t bars in them.

Jessica Walter delivers all her lines flawlessly, beautifully, and with genius.

Everyone else could only hope to master the art as well as she has.

The comedic gold she has left behind is historic, and Lucille Bluth is undoubtedly an Arrested Development fan favorite character because of her sense of humor.

Leon Black- Curb Your Enthusiasm

J.B. Smoove's character in Curb Your Enthusiasm is Leon Black whose sense of humor is unique.
(HBO/Youtube Screenshot)

Yes, Larry David may be the show’s star, but Leon Black’s (J.B. Smoove) sense of humor stole the spotlight the second he got in front of that camera.

He is proud of his ability to “brings the ruckus to the ladies,” comparing himself to “Barack Obama, motherf*****! I’m the president of hittin’ that a**!”

Without Leon, fans would never know the nickname “long-ball Larry” or the term “lampin’.”

He is not shy either, admitting to shooting a porno constipated, and his natural skill to handle Larry’s unusual behaviors with quick-witted one-liners is brilliant.

His entry into the show was even top-tier comedy.

His whole family left the David household, and despite having no reason to stay, he told Larry he was “going upstairs to eat this f***in’ Chinese food in my f***in’ room.” He has been a staple in the HBO hit ever since.

Phil Dunphy- Modern Family

(ABC/Youtube Screenshot)

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind when fans think of the Modern Family Dunphy father figure is one thing— his book of “Phil’sosophy.”

Always look people in the eye, even if they are blind. If you get pulled over for speeding, tell the police officer your spouse has diarrhea.

Watch a sunrise at least once a day. Marry someone who looks sexy while disappointed.

Related: Unforgettable Narcissts of the Small Screen

Phil’s childish behavior, novelty, and awkwardness distinguish him from the other cast members.

His dad jokes and goofiness are played out perfectly. It is hard to do dumb humor without it being a bit cringe-worthy, but Phil is a wizard at it.

April Ludgate- Parks & Recreation

April Ludgate (Audrey Plaza), a Parks and Recreation favorite, is a brilliant contrast to Leslie. She is detached, shrewd, and loves ravens — a beacon for dark comedy fans.

Aubrey Plaza as April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation who has a dark sense of humor.
(NBC/Youtube Screenshot)

Her head is a “terror dome,” and may or may not have a giant needle on hand if someone tells her secrets and thinks going insane is fun!

Her interest in national parks may stem from them being the best places for a full-moon werewolf transformation, but at least she is fighting for them!

Plus, she makes a very solid point — all wine tastes the same. If you spend more than $5 on it, then you are very stupid.

Her deadpan manner, obvious boredom, sarcasm, and dry sense of humor are praiseworthy and have garnered her character much-deserved comedic attention.

George Lopez- The George Lopez Show

George Lopez's character is a fictionalized version of himself.
(ABC/Youtube Screenshot)

Like Larry David, the titular comedian George Lopez plays a fictionalized version of himself in the ABC sitcom of the same name.

His childhood is the center of a lot of the comedy because his mother was a hedonistic alcoholic.

This leads to many hilarious one-liners because now he is a helicopter parent. This family dynamic and Lopez’s humor create a relatability and lighten up a rough childhood.

Related: Heavy On The Rizz: The Most CHarismatic Leading Men on TV

For example, when his mother complimented him on always being independent, crossing the street alone when he was 2, Lopez responded, “I was looking for food!”

He teaches life lessons in unique ways, playing “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and queuing it up to the educational part, hoping that watching scary stuff would make his son more careful of the dangers in the world.

Lopez also has a repertoire of catchphrases, which are always delivered beautifully and in a way that never gets old.

He does not hide his disdain for people and loves to mess with anyone who tries to offend him.

George Lopez uses his ruthless sense of humor to encourage people to dunk him.
(ABC/Youtube Screenshot)

When an in-law asks what he has been up to, knowing they don’t think highly of him, he responds that he just got off of parole due to stabbing someone when they looked at his wife in the wrong way.

Licked the knife clean, too, because that is how he rolls, fool!

Creed Bratton – The Office

Creed also plays a fictionalized version of himself on The Office.

The real-life former Grass Roots musician plays a hippie and homeless man with a strange sense of humor who is employed at Dunder Mifflin.

The show has a long list of talent, but everything that comes from Creed’s mouth is hysterical. He may not be the main character, but it will surely be an unforgettable moment when the cameras focus on him. The fact his golden nuggets are sporadic only adds to the intrigue and comedy.

Offended by homosexuality? Not Creed.

In the ’60s, he “made love to many, many women, often outdoors, in the mud and the rain, and it’s possible a man slipped in. There would be no way of knowing.”

Creed Bratton's character on The Office is a fictionalized version the real-life Grass Roots musician.
(NBC/Youtube Screenshot)

He has a mysterious way of never being fired despite not actually knowing what is going on, and his literal grassroots is obvious when he says, “The copier did tricks on the high wire. A lady tried to give away a baby that looked like a cat.

“There was a Dwight impersonator and a Jim impersonator. A strongman crushed a turtle. I laughed, and I cried. Not bad for a day in the life of a dog food company.”

As fans, we go along with his nonsense. Of course, he understands pirate code but can’t speak it, though. Need a worm dealer? Creed’s got you.

He thinks Jim is gay but tries to set him up with his daughter. Points out you can only ooze two things: sexuality and pus. And, if he can’t scuba, then what’s this all been about? What is he working towards?

Jim Lahey – Trailer Park Boys

Famous for being a drunk trailer park supervisor, Jim Lahey (John Dunsworth) may be best known for his line, “I am the liquor,” talk of the winds of shit, and constant failure to take down whatever illegal activity Julian, Ricky, and Bubbles are conducting.

He is absurd, and his sense of humor is heightened when he is “on the liquor,” telling stories of shitfish, shitnets, and shitpower because “when you are in a man’s power, you must do as he bids you.”

Jim Lahey's sense of humor when he is on the liquor is unparalleled.
(Netflix/Youtube Screenshot)

Lahey’s struggle with alcohol leads to the most quotable moments of TPB, like, “Alcoholics go to meetings. I don’t go to meetings; therefore, I’m not an alcoholic.”

Before Dunsworth unexpectedly passed away, he coincidentally said at some point while shooting the show, “When you’re dead, you’re dead. But you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something.”

He undoubtedly contributed moments on the screen that will live on through memes and fan’s hearts.

Kimiko Miyashiro – The Boys

Kimiko Miyashiro (Karen Fukuhara) may be a largely nonverbal character, but her sense of humor shines in other forms, such as sign language and text messages.

She is quick-witted and sharp-minded and keeps Frenchie and the other boys alert with her clever insults and callouts.

She can grasp fans uniquely, which speaks a lot about her character.

Even though she may be a little more reserved, guarded, and tougher than your average character known for their sense of humor, she still stands out among the rest of The Boys cast.

Terry Jeffords – Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine lieutenant is another character based on the actors themselves.

Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) may physically be huge, eating 10,000 calories a day to maintain his size, but he is really a softy.

His size has played into many of the best moments on the show, like when he attempted to get a vasectomy.

The doctors had to stop the surgery because they didn’t realize before that they didn’t have enough anesthesia for the procedure due to his size, which forced them to pause the operation.

In his state of delusion, he utters numerous hilarious lines, like commenting on how small Jake Peralta’s head is and asking him where he keeps his brain.

His obsession with yogurt and his frequent use of the third person add a layer to his sense of humor that makes him unforgettable.

Tormund Giantsbane- Game of Thrones

The Game of Thrones Free Folk leader is by far one of the funniest characters. His vulgarity, brute nature, and directness lead to some of the show’s best banter and comedic lines.

His facial expressions are on point, and his obsession with Brienne of Tarth makes for some of his most iconic moments.

His words were quite literal, like when someone referred to the Queen.

He wasn’t sure if they were talking about Cersei or Daenerys, so for clarification, he asked, “The one with the dragons or the one that f**** her brother?”

Or his advice on how to survive the cold, “You have to keep moving; that’s the secret. Walking’s good, fight’s better, f******’s best.”

Tormund Giantsbane has a vulgar sense of humor which made his character unforgettable.

Giantsbane’s sense of humor is a series highlight and makes for some epic memes.

Willie Jack – Reservation Dogs

Reservation Dogs is a revolutionary FX show hailed for depicting Native Americans through an Indigenous perspective rather than a white perspective.

Although it is centered around a tragic event, it has its hysterical moments.

Willie Jack (Paulina Alexis) is tough, fierce, loyal, and unafraid to call someone out when needed. She is known for her memorable digs and clever sense of humor, which feels natural.

Even if her moments are just tiny sections of her lines, she makes them count.

Just the way she thinks of learning the wizard ways as not being sure if it’s a wax-on, wax-off situation, so she just shuts up and goes with it, creating a laughable and memorable moment.

Her facial expressions also make fans crack up, and there is something special about a character’s ability to evoke laughter from simple reactions.

Samantha Jones – Sex and the City

Samantha Jones left her mark on the industry with her brilliantly hilarious moments in Sex and the City. She does not care what anyone thinks about her, lives life to the fullest, and never stifles her passion or personality.

She always wants to have a good time, obviously, when she says, “I don’t believe in the Republican party or the Democratic party. I just believe in parties.”

She is also not afraid to tell a man she loves them but loves herself more.

She knows who she is and is not afraid to flaunt it. Her delivery and willingness to make her presence none makes for some of the most quotable TV moments.

“Yeah, I am harsh. I’m also demanding, stubborn, self-sufficient, and always right. In bed, at the office, and everywhere else.”

Grandma Huang – Fresh Off the Boat

Grandma Huang (Lucille Soong) is the comedic relief on Fresh Off the Boat.

Fans love her attitude and sense of humor, both verbal and physical. Her facial expressions and wheelchair make for the best parts of the show.

With the looming threat of Y2K and Emery’s idea to live it up, instead of following the public’s panic, she decides to pour a can of soda on the carpet because there is no need to worry about consequences with the crash of computers on the horizon.

Using the same reasoning when Emery and Evan tell her not to sign up for a credit card because she has no way of paying it off, she tells them, no need to worry, you pile up the debt and wait until January when bank records get erased. Y2K. Her way of living it up.

Grandma Huang is known for her sense of humor in Fresh Off the Boat.
(ABC/Youtube Screenshot)

In her free time, she likes to take pennies from the public fountain, and she loves Garfield.

She loves free things from the bank, and after the disappointment of learning the pen she wanted was chained to the desk, she takes a potted plant instead.

Supposedly, she has also knitted a cape for Evel Knievel in the past, and she watches “Twins” because she is attracted to Danny DeVito.

Grandma Huang’s delivery is flawless, and her humor is unparalleled.

Chandler Bing – Friends

Chandler Bing’s (Matthew Perry) sarcastic sense of humor and ability to “say more dumb things before 9 a.m. than most people say all day” certainly established him as a character known for his humor.

He also uses comedy as a defense mechanism and a way to cope with his rough childhood upbringing, which started after his parents split up.

This makes him a relatable character, as this tends to be a way for many people to cope.

Chandler is also a comedian who uses his self-esteem issues as the center of jokes, and quitting often becomes the joke.

He always delivers the best zingers and witty comments, but he tends to mess up often, which only adds to his comedy.

His natural humor is extremely effective and has created infamous humor throughout Friends.

Dr. Gregory House – House

Dr. Gregory House has a dry sense of that resonates with fans. He is intelligent and crude, but in the most captivating way that made his sometimes insensitive remarks absolutely hilarious.

When someone asks him if he minds if they come in his place, he responds, “Not at all. Do you mind if I leave?”

How could fans not crack up when he said, “I cared for eight seconds. Then got distracted,” or “The good news is he won’t be bitching about losing his hand if he can’t breathe”?

Dr. Gregory House is known for his sarcastic sense of humor.
(Fox/Youtube Screenshot)

He doesn’t care what people think of him and calls it as it is.

He also has his own unconventional way of caring for people, like when he knocked on Wilson’s door and said, “I know you’re in there. I can hear you caring.”

The star of House brought humor to a hit show that otherwise is not considered a comedy.

Red Forman – That ’70s Show

Red Forman of That ’70s Show is an icon of bitter humor, sarcasm, and edgy jabs.

He is irritable and grumpy but not actually a cruel person, which makes an interesting contrast and his comedy even better because, you know, at his core, he isn’t truly hateful.

Red Forman's will always be known for his bitter sense of humor.
(Fox/Youtube Screenshot)

He is blunt and has an irreverent tone and manner that fans cling to and enjoy.

He is the king of insults and is always looking for someone’s ass to put his boot up. He also wants to be buried facedown when the time comes so anyone who doesn’t like him can kiss it.

His deadpan humor makes him an icon for the ages.

There have been many iconic female dynamic duos who have flaunted their infatuation with each other and have cemented themselves in our hearts as the best-fixated females.

One of the best aspects of TV is watching relationships build, transform, and transpire, whether they are healthy or not.

Feuding females, frenemies, and gal pals glued at the hip seem to carry a magical essence in the TV world.

Some are so iconic they drive the show and make for the best scenes and audience draw. Here are 17 female duos who obsess over each other!

Lead photo fixated females

Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney (Laverne & Shirley)

Laverne & Shirley first aired in 1976 and was a spinoff of Happy Days. It stars Penny Marshall (Laverne) and Cindy Williams (Shirley).

The two are best friends, roommates, and co-workers at the Shotz Brewery in Milwaukee. They are complete opposites who balance each other perfectly and constantly encourage each other.

The memorable duo was there for each other no matter what, and they were also highly independent. Laverne and Sherley made the show iconic because they were opposites yet couldn't get along any better.

After losing their jobs at the brewery, the two move to Burbank, California, hoping to make a new start and become movie stars.

Tia Landry and Tamera Campbell (Sister, Sister)

One of the most popular '90s sitcoms, Sister, Sister, stars Tia and Tamera Mowry as Tia Landry and Tamera Campbell.

The two played twins separated at birth and adopted by different families on the ABC and, later, The WB sitcom. However, one day, they just ran into each other at the mall.

Eventually, Tamera's adoptive father allows Tia and her mother to move into his home because Tia's mom will take a job in St. Louis, which would separate the girls again.

Tia and Tamera may be identical in looks, but on the show, Tia is from inner-city Detroit, and Tamera is from the suburbs.

The two also have differing personalities, but they become glued at the hip after being separated for so long, which is what fans couldn't stop tuning in to see.

Grace Hanson and Frankie Bergstein (Grace & Frankie)

The Netflix original stars Jane Fonda as Grace and Lily Tomlin as Frankie, who started as rivals with a competitive relationship, but that came to a screeching halt.

After the two find out their husbands have been having an affair, are in love with each other, and want to get married, Grace and Frankie's dynamic switches.

The world feels like it is falling apart. However, the two lean on each other and form an unbreakable bond. This unique start to a friendship and their clashing personalities is what made the show.

Not only that, but the real-life actors, Fonda and Tomlin, have been friends in real life for a while, and that kind of onscreen chemistry is unbeatable.

Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen (Gossip Girl)

Blair and Serena, aka B and S, are two of the main characters in Gossip Girl. They are another BFF duo who are complete opposites in their fashion styles, personalities, and ways of living.

Despite their rather turbulent relationship, which saw them swear never to speak to each other again at one point, a truly heartbreaking moment.

However, their love for each other always won, and they knew deep down that they couldn't separate forever. Best friends always fight, and many duos split up, but that doesn't mean the person leaves your heart forever.

B Hugs S

This realistic portrayal and dedication to each other make fans love them.

Eve Polastri and Villanelle (Killing Eve)

Eve and Villanelle are the prime examples of an obsessive relationship. The Killing Eve pair have a unique dynamic. Eve (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) are a match made, not in heaven.

Related: TV's Best Hate-Driven Relationships

Eve is a British Intelligence operative who dreams of being a spy, and Villanelle is a psychopathic assassin with a tragic and shady background.

On top of that, Eve is in hot pursuit of taking Villanelle down after the latter does her very dirty at the beginning of Season 1.

The relationship is considered toxic, as they haven't put the other's well-being first. Their possessiveness and examing of their sexualities lead to a chaotic yet sincere relationship where they want to understand each other's tendencies.

While it may not be a traditional and heartwarming fixation, their complexity and lustfulness add intrigue to the BBC America series.

Fans differ in opinions about their true feelings for each other and their intentions, which adds to the show's appeal and duo.

Gabi Mosley and Lacey Quinn (Found)

The Found pair Gabi (Shanola Hampton) and Lacey have a bond forged by trauma.

Pointing Out - Tall - Found Season 1 Episode 13
(Matt Miller/NBC)

They first met in the horrific situation of Hugh "Sir" Evans' basement, where they were both held captive. Sir kidnaps Gabi first, who is older than Lacey.

When Sir kidnaps Lacey (then Bella), Gabi knows she needs to rescue the two. After their escape, Gabi becomes like a mother and sister to Lacey, who latches on to Gabi. Lacey feels safe around Gabi. How could she not?

Gabi protects Lacey and saves her life. She is the one person Lacey can open up to and wants to take Lacey's pain away.

Twenty years later, they work together at Gabi's crisis management firm, Mosely & Associates, which specializes in finding missing people.

Lacey is also now a law student, and their relationship is a creative and distinctive spin for the show, making it captivating.

Cristina Yang and Meredith Grey (Grey's Anatomy)

Cristina and Meredith are two genius doctors bonded first by their love for medicine and dedication to work.

While they may have differing views on whether or not starting a family should be prioritized over work, they are, deep down, two peas in a pod.

They both have cynical tendencies and while Meredith can be "dark and twisty," Cristina is more matter-of-fact. However, they complement each other beautifully.

Their profession also brings a competitiveness to their connection, which is exciting and something not always explored in series. Beyond that, considering it's Grey's Anatomy, they have also been welded together by numerous traumatic situations.

What the Heck Are We Watching?
(ABC)

Of course, the hit medical drama has many reasons to keep coming back, but their friendship was always one that fans adored and lived for.

Beth Dutton and Summer Higgins (Yellowstone)

Since the two met, Beth (Kelly Reilly) has not been a fan of Summer (Piper Perabo). Beth's hardheadedness and ideas surrounding what is best for her dad have made his life less than ideal in some aspects.

Related: Balancing Act: Examining Fans' Influence on TV Storytelling

Given Summer's environmental activism, protesting, and veganism, she couldn't be any different from Beth or John, so it is no surprise that they do not get along from the start.

The two couldn't stand being around one another, and when they were, they would jab at one another. During one of their first interactions, Beth even wielded a knife.

(Paramount Network)

Not to mention, the two's hate-filled relationship finally came to a head during the final season of Yellowstone. However, the physical release of all that pent-up anger did wonders for their relationship. From that point on, things are seemingly different.

Perceptions are altered, and commonalities are realized. Summer always had her way of keeping up with Beth, an impressive feat, and she never backed down.

There is something ethereal about watching two women who are complete opposites yet very similar come together after years of only loathing towards each other.

Issa Dee and Molly Carter (Insecure)

Insecure besties Issa (Issa Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) have been friends since college, and their relationship mirrors real-life friendships.

(HBO (Youtube Screenshot))

The two have a natural dynamic that works well and one that they got acclimated to. It is authentic in all senses of the word, not only in its depiction of Black female friendship but also in their chemistry.

It is revolutionary and unsurprising since the two are good friends in real life, and Issa Rae is also the creator and executive producer.

Related: The Age of Nostalgia: Why Young Audiences Are Seeking Out Old TV

The duo wasn't perfect. Of course, no friendship or relationship is. They fought and were brutally honest with each other, but that never erased all the beautiful and hilarious moments they shared or their friendship forever.

They were there for each other, gave a helping hand, and came to each other's defense.

When the narrative flipped, fans were taken aback. This forced the two to question how they had gotten to that point and who they were without the other.

Issa and Yvonne - Insecure
(HBO (Youtube Screenshot))

It was so real, which is admirable about the HBO series. It created an attachment to the characters and show.

Veronica Fisher and Fiona Gallagher (Shameless)

Veronica (Shanola Hampton), better known as V, and Fiona (Emmy Rossum) are best friends and neighbors on Shameless.

Well, one house separates them, but since the owner died, they consider each other next-door neighbors.

The two are always there for each other, no matter what. V helps care for the Gallagher kids because she knows their absent parents have put a lot on Fiona. V even offers to bring Fiona's sibling in when DCFS snatches them.

Fiona and Veronica - Shameless
(Showtime (Netflix))

From letting them borrow her phone to using her shower to helping them in sticky legal situations or just partying, V will do whatever Fiona and the kids need.

Fiona has little tangible to offer, but she is always there when V needs advice, a shoulder to cry on, or a couch to sleep on. They support one another, and there isn't anything they would not do for the other.

They had their hard times, the most prominent being when Svetlana came into the picture, but at the end of the day, regardless of how much tough was used to get the other on track, they always returned to each other.

Their dynamic and V's love, Kevin, add a storyline that the Showtime series could not live without—and literally, neither could the Gallaghers.

Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins (Parks and Recreation)

Amy and Rashida - Parks and Recreation
(NBC (Youtube Screenshot))

There are numerous friendships in Parks and Recreation, but none are as infamous as Leslie (Amy Poehler) and Ann (Rashida Jones).

It is almost like their connection was written in the stars and brought about by fate. The two are inspiring, and fans have made it their goal to have a bond as thoughtful and zealous as theirs.

No matter how different they are, Ann accepts Leslie's oddities. She loves her for who she is and will run to her defense. Their differing personalities bring out the best in each other and balance each other.

Ann helps Leslie calm down when she is freaking out, and Leslie allows Ann to come out of her shell and let herself loose. Leslie is also attentive to Ann's likes, which is displayed in the overly considerate presents she gets her.

It is always amazing to see friends who encourage and help each other through difficult times.

Gabriela Dawson and Leslie Shay (Chicago Fire)

The Chicago Fire pair, Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Shay (Lauren German), are co-workers and close friends who support each other on and off the job.

They had a complex friendship as paramedic partners, but they always looked out for each other and provided advice whenever needed.

Related: Disappointing and Downright Offensive Character Departures

It wasn't always a smooth sailing relationship. They got into a pretty lousy fight during Season 2, and despite making up, their bond was shaky from then on.

Unfortunately, it was a short-lived friendship due to Shay's death. Dawson felt guilty about the circumstances in which it happened and even tried to resuscitate her, providing an incredibly emotional scene.

Shay and Dawson - Chicago Fire
(NBC (Youtube Screenshot))

Dawson didn't recover from it for a long time. She also gave an inspiring and tear-jerking speech at Shay's tribute, showing how the tragedy impacted her.

The short-lived friendship and intense ending pulled at the heartstrings and is engrained in fans' minds.

Rachel Green and Monica Geller (Friends)

Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Monica (Courtney Cox) may be some of the most iconic duos in TV history, given that they were on a show called Friends.

They have been best friends since they were kids, and although they became estranged, they eventually came back together. Monica welcomed Rachel with open arms, took her in as a roommate, and engrossed her in the crew.

Monica and Rachel - Friends Season 5 Episode 8
(NBC)

Like all close friendships, they fought, but they were always an extraordinary duo to look up to, and that was a massive appeal of the hit sitcom.

You can always tell that friends are meant to be together when they separate, and nothing changes between them after they reunite.

Related: 19 Controversial Shows That We Love Anyway

We even see clips of the past when Rachel spent Thanksgiving at Monica's and when they went to prom together.

Also, nothing can strain close friends more than living together, which was never a problem for them despite their cleanliness differences.

Even though their split at the end was heartbreaking, fans knew their sister-like friendship would live forever.

Poussey and Taystee (Orange Is the New Black)

Orange Is the New Black was a groundbreaking and unconventional show at the time.

It also brought the world Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley) and Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson (Danielle Brooks). The two are best friends and inmates at Litchfield who always had a good time and were joking.

Poussey wanted what was best for Taystee, and she wanted her to have a better life outside, even if it meant being separated.

The waters got murky when Poussey kissed Taystee, and the latter made it clear she just wanted to be best friends. Even more so when with the arrival of Vee, which takes a toll on Poussey's mental state.

Thankfully, the duo rekindled their friendship.

After Poussey died, Tastyee led riots in her name and started the Poussey Washington fund. What else screams dedication louder? Their chemistry and humor provided superior content to the show.

Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) are Brooklyn Nine-Nine colleagues and friends. Despite their personality differences, they are always willing to accept the other's quirks to see them smile.

Their first mark of love was their promise to always have each other's backs in their precinct full of men. They were straightforward with each other, saving each other from mistakes and pushing each other to be their best.

They have natural chemistry and humor that flows like second nature—the two radiated sweetness, making for a favorable duo and a commending layer to the show.

Mia and Lucia (The White Lotus)

Mia (Beatrice Grannò) and Lucia (Simona Tabasco) from The White Lotus may be the most overlooked fixated female pairs.

It is understandable, given the anthology's plot and other main characters, but as a fan, it was hard not to fall in love with them.

The local Silician duo are always up to no good, adding a thrilling twist to the HBO series. Watching what conniving plan they had up their sleeves was such a pleasure.

Lucia and Mia - The White Lotus

Their clashing personalities made them an unlikely pair, but that only meant they balanced each other out, taught one another life lessons, and brought out the best in each other.

Mia and Lucia are messy and magical, leaving the audience wanting more. They are refreshing, exhilarating, and moving, reminding everyone not to take life seriously.

They are determined to help each other reach their goals of making good money on Lucia's end and becoming a famous singer on Mia's.

The two are prime examples of how side characters' stories, especially those of women, can add phenomenal content to an already fantastic show.

Kate Mularkey and Tully Hart (Firefly Lane)

Kate and Tully - Firefly Lane
(Netflix (Netflix Screenshot))

Firefly Lane is a drama-comedy Netflix original with a foundation of friendship, but it is not one of pureness with a happily-ever-after ending.

The duo, Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) and Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl), have been friends for decades and have lived chaotic, fun lives.

They met after Tully moved on the same street as Kate and are the essence of being there for each other through thick and thin despite an epic fallout.

However, being apart proves they can't handle life without each other. Their celebration of female friendship being so raw, truthful, and wild instantly drew fans.

Another example of opposites attracting that results in them balancing out the other and breaking comfort zones.

Their chemistry is destiny, so much so that the two actors became friends in real life because of the job, something not all too common.

Fixated females elevate TV and become fan favorites, central storylines, and real-life friendship goals.

Did you ever wonder what your favorite stars did before they were famous?

Although there are a few rare exceptions, most celebrities did not start as stars. They had standard jobs just like the rest of us.

Some even had extremely unusual jobs. Here are eleven examples.

Harrison Ford Reclines on a Couch - Shrinking
(Apple TV Plus (Trailer Screenshot))

Harrison Ford Was a Carpenter

You would be hard-pressed to find a person alive who doesn't know who Harrison Ford is.

The iconic actor starred in some of the most popular films ever, including the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

The star of 1923 and Shrinking turned 81 on July 13, 2024, but he seems to have no intention of slowing down. That's no surprise since he has been a hard worker for his entire life.

Shrinking Season 1 Episode 3 Review: 15 Minutes

Before becoming Indy and Han Solo, he was known as Harry Ford, a self-taught carpenter.

His carpentry skills have served him well during his career, particularly when they helped him meet George Lucas. That meeting eventually led to his roles in the Star Wars franchise, American Graffiti, and other films.

Oda Mae Brown Gets Serious in Ghost
(Paramount Pictures (Trailer Screenshot))

Whoopi Goldberg Was a Cosmetologist With a Twist

Funny woman Whoopi Goldberg has had many iconic roles, including in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the movie Ghost.

Considering one of her jobs before becoming famous, it's easy to see why she needed a sense of humor.

Her early job was as a cosmetologist, but not to the stars or average people.

She was a cosmetologist for corpses in a mortuary.

Much like when she got suspended from The View, she needed her sense of humor to get her through doing that job.

Danny DeVito Makes an Entrance - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
(FX (Promo Screenshot)

Danny DeVito Saw Dead People, Too

Whoopi's fellow comedian Danny DeVito can undoubtedly relate.

The star of the classic sitcom Taxi, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and various films like Matilda and Deck the Halls is no stranger to dead bodies.

Netflix Reimagines Matilda

His early job was doing hair in, you guessed it, a mortuary.

It would've been interesting to be a fly on the wall in either facility when those two were working.

Perhaps they sometimes practiced their comedic timing by telling jokes to the corpses.

Terry Crews Gives a Serious Stare - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
(Fox (Trailer Screenshot))

Terry Crews Was in the News

America's Got Talent host Terry Crews is a man of many talents.

If you're a fan, you may have loved watching Terry on Brooklyn Nine-Nine or followed his football career before he got into acting.

He frequently shows off his muscle-flexing skills and has proven he knows how to play the flute, which are well-known facts.

What is lesser-known is that he is a talented artist. He used to sell his creations to his football teammates for extra income, but that wasn't his odd job.

The odd job was working for a television station before he became famous. He used his artistic talents to produce courtroom sketches during trials for the station's news broadcasts.

Ashton Kutcher Eye Roll - That '90s Show
(Netflix (Trailer Screenshot))

Ashton Kutcher Was a "Cereal" Killer

Ashton Kutcher's most famous role is that of Michael Kelso on That '70s Show, a role he reprised on That '90s Show.

Today, Ashton is still acting and is a successful businessman and entrepreneur with a Biochemical Engineering degree from the University of Iowa.

He also raises his kids and champions causes he believes in with his wife and '70s Show costar, Mila Kunis. The two appeared on That '90s Show together as well.

Mila Insisted on Their Appearance

Ashton leads a fast-paced life now, but one of his earliest jobs was far less exciting and glamorous.

As a worker for General Mills, he had to sweep and eliminate excess cereal that fell on the floor. He has certainly worked his way up the ranks since then.

Sylvester Stallone Looking Tough
(Lionsgate Films (Trailer Screenshot))

Sylvester Stallone Looked After Lions

Movie star Sylvester Stallone is a mentally and physically tough guy. He's famous for his roles in Rocky and Rambo and is now known for his role in the Expendables films.

Before that, his unusual job was cleaning lion cages at the Central Park Zoo.

Had he known about their early jobs, he might have started a circus with his fellow actors, including Christopher Walken, Pierce Brosnan, Patrick Dempsey, and Hugh Jackman.

Walken was briefly a lion tamer, Brosnan was a fire-breather, Dempsey juggled professionally, and Jackman dressed up as a clown to entertain kids.

Rust Cohle Looking Frustrated - True Detective
(HBO/Screenshot)

Matthew McConaughey Cleaned Up After Chickens

Matthew McConaughey's first TV role was on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries in 1992.

Now a famous movie star and well-known for his role in the series True Detective, he is easily recognizable. However, he probably felt far less seen in one of his earlier roles.

True Detective Season Four Episode 1 Review: Night Country Part 1

That role was as a chicken coop cleaner. He performed the job for a short time when he was living in Australia as an exchange student.

Matthew, who frequently collaborates with Woody Harrelson, also rubs elbows with many other A-Listers today, so it's difficult to imagine him as an unknown raking out chicken coops.

It's equally difficult to picture him doing another of his first jobs, working as a dishwasher.

Moneyball Actor Brad Pitt
(Sony Pictures Entertainment (Trailer Screenshot))

Brad Pitt Was a Mascot

Continuing the chicken-related theme, we have Brad Pitt.

Now a famous movie star known for the Ocean's film franchise and other films like Fight Club, he once acted in a whole different way.

Brad's first job was dressing as a chicken mascot for the El Pollo Loco restaurant chain.

He didn't have to clean out coops like Matthew, but it probably wasn't always fun to sweat it out in a hot chicken suit while advertising the restaurant.

Still, some of what he learned from that experience may have carried over into his acting career.

Luke Perry as Fred Andrews Questions Archie - Riverdale
(Netflix (Trailer Screenshot))

Luke Perry Helped People Open Many Doors

Coy Luther Perry III, better known as Luke Perry, was one of the biggest teen heartthrobs of the 1990s, thanks to his role as Dylan McKay on the hit teen drama series Beverly Hills 90210.

He then found a second generation of fans when he starred as Fred Andrews on Riverdale years later.

Riverdale Season 7 Episode 13 Review: Chapter One Thirty: The Crucible

Before that, he had worked construction and odd jobs, such as in a doorknob factory.

Fans, including myself, were devastated when he suffered a stroke and passed away in 2019 at the young age of 52.

He was an incredible actor, and we were all lucky he didn't stay in the doorknob production or construction fields.

Jennifer Aniston Hard at Work - Friends
(NBC/Screenshot)

Jennifer Aniston Hit the Road

Jennifer Aniston has been in the business for decades.

Some of her earliest roles were in 1990s classics like Herman's Head, the Ferris Bueller TV series, and the quirky and star-studded film Camp Cucamonga.

Yet, she will forever be known primarily for playing Rachel on Friends.

Jennifer Aniston Says Comedy Has Evolved

Before achieving stardom, she hit the road and at least one car door as a bicycle messenger.

During a press tour for the movie Horrible Bosses, she explained that she was just 19 and was a bit of a klutz when that incident happened.

George Clooney Looking Handsome
(Warner Bros. Entertainment (Trailer Scteenshot))

George Clooney Worked in Tobacco Fields

George Clooney is one of the most famous stars of TV and movies today.

He made a name for himself on the small screen, appearing in classic shows such as The Facts of Life and Roseanne.

As for films, he is one of several men who have donned Batman's famous cowl on the big screen.

Many people don't know that George starred in two series about emergency rooms: the short-lived 1980s sitcom E/R and the long-running and wildly popular medical drama ER (1994-2009).

But before all that, George could be found doing several less glamorous jobs, including cutting tobacco on a tobacco farm.

The Caped Crusader Dark and Dashing
(Warner Bros. Entertainment (Trailer Scteenshot))

Many more stars also had day jobs.

Some had weirder jobs than others, of course.

Do you have a favorite star not on this list you know had an odd job before stardom struck?

Please comment below and tell us about your favorite pre-stardom celebrity odd job. We would love to hear about it!

Take a trip with us through recent TV history to look at our favorite LGBTQ+ ships as Valentine's Day approaches. These couples are relationship goals!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and our hearts are aflutter thinking about the most romantic couplings on our favorite shows.

More specifically, we're reminiscing about some of TV's greatest LGBTQ+ relationships. These couples don't just give us butterflies — they also provide much-needed representation to a group that doesn't get to see themselves in characters very often.

These couples, fictional though they may be, are the definition of relationship goals.

LGBTQ+ Relationships Banner - Schitt's Creek
(Pop TV (Hulu Screenshot))

As any TV fan knows, a good on-screen relationship needs several factors to work. The actors have to have chemistry, the characters have to have chemistry, and their relationship has to make sense in the context of the plot.

Sometimes, especially with LGBTQ+ pairings, it can feel like the writers just throw people together for the sake of a subplot, but those couples don't tend to resonate with audiences.

One example of this is Alex and Piper from Orange is the New Black.

Their relationship was toxic, and fans hated them together, and their chemistry was lukewarm at best. Don't worry, though; we've rounded up some of the sweetest LGBTQ+ couples to help you forget about the sour ones.

David and Patrick's Vows - Schitt's Creek
(Netflix)

David and Patrick: Schitt's Creek

David Rose and Patrick Brewer will always have a special place in our hearts. The purity and innocence in their relationship were unmatched.

Personality-wise, they couldn't have been more different. David was loud and dramatic, over the top, and full of big feelings. On the other hand, Patrick was more tempered, logical, and level-headed.

The two complemented each other well, though, and the way they supported each other through various events (Patrick coming out to his parents, for example) was beautiful. And Schitt's Creek gave us a world without homophobia, which was refreshing and made it easy to relax into the show.

We got to see the two of them grow together, with David pulling Patrick out of his shell and Patrick helping to ground David when he needed it.

A Long-Awaited Reunion - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7
(NBC)

Captain Holt and Kevin: Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Captain Holt was an out and proud Black gay police captain with a no-nonsense attitude and a heart of gold.

His husband Kevin Cozner was the severe and perfunctory professor whose love of the English language was only outmatched by his love of his husband and their corgi, Cheddar.

The two of them together were a breath of fresh air in a police comedy. Their relationship didn't get the same amount of air time as some of the others on the show, but there were still several episodes dedicated to their love story and the challenges they faced.

We loved seeing them overcome difficult periods in their relationship and come out on top.

A Relationship is Tested - Grey's Anatomy
(ABC/Raymond Liu)

Amelia and Kai: Grey's Anatomy

Amelia Shepherd is a complicated character on Grey's Anatomy, the majority of whose history was actually explored in the show's first spin-off, Private Practice.

Amelia's been through the wringer with relationships and experienced a lot of loss, which is why we were so happy to see her find someone she really cared about.

Kai wasn't Amelia's first non-man crush, but they were her first relationship on the show that wasn't with a man.

Kai, Grey's Anatomy's first major non-binary character, has struggled a bit with their relationship because they never wanted to have children, so it's been hard getting used to Amelia's son.

Marina Moments -tall - Station 19 Season 6 Episode 18
(abc/screenshot/station 19)

Maya and Carina: Station 19

Staying in the Grey's Anatomy universe, Maya and Carina have developed their relationship in both shows at times. On Station 19, the two have been through a lot together.

During a particularly shaky time for Maya's mental health, it was unclear whether they were going to make it, but their partnership was built on a strong foundation, and they found their way.

As Station 19 prepares to come to an end this year, fans are waiting with bated breath to find out what will happen with the Marina ship and whether they'll be able to start the family they're hoping for.

We can only hope that we'll get to continue following their relationship on Grey's Anatomy after Station 19 ends.

Getting Closer - The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 3
(Liane Hentscher/HBO)

Bill and Frank: The Last of Us

The Last of Us gave us one of the most beautiful love stories we've ever seen in the span of one hour with characters that we'd never seen before and would never see again.

Bill and Frank's entire story played out over the course of the episode, from the moment they meet to their tragic deaths, and this installment of the video game-turned-TV-phenomenon shook audiences around the world.

The unexpected gentleness of love so rich came even as a dark show full of loss and struggle was just getting on its feet. Bill and Frank drew in fans who hadn't even seen the show before.

This insightful episode contributed to The Last of Us's eight Emmy wins, one of which went to Nick Offerman for his stunning performance as Bill.

Angel and Papi's First Kiss - Pose Season 2 Episode 3
(FX (Hulu Screenshot))

Angel and Papi: Pose

Transgender representation is hard to find on television, but Angel was one of the good ones. Angel and Papi had a lot of complex issues to work through: Angel's sobriety and Papi's newly discovered son, for starters.

But despite their challenges, the lovebirds tie the knot in a beautiful ceremony, and we're certain that they'll make it.

For the LGBTQ+ community, Angel and Papi are particularly important because they show a cisgender, heterosexual man in love with a transgender woman and accepting her for exactly what she is: a woman. Papi doesn't feel that his identity or masculinity is threatened, like others in Angel's past.

This particular relationship was stunningly written to be raw and real, and we're better for having gotten to witness it.

Girlfriends - Orange is the New Black
(JoJo Whilden/Netflix)

Are there any LGBTQ+ relationships on TV that you're particularly fond of, or even ones you think missed the mark?

We'd love to hear from you!

Let us know in the comments which ships you can't live without.

Tragic news broke out of Hollywood on Tuesday evening when it was revealed that Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andre Braugher had died.

The Emmy-winning actor passed away after being diagnosed with an illness.

No details of that illness were made available at the time of writing.

He was 61 years old.

Braugher was perhaps best known for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where he played Raymond Holt in all eight seasons of the FOX-turned-NBC comedy.

If you watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine online, you know Raymond was constantly shocked at the actions of the others who worked in the fictional 99th Precinct of the New York Police Department in Brooklyn.

His breakout role was in the Ed Zwick-directed movie Glory, starring opposite Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington.

Another well-known role was on the hit 1990s crime drama Homicide: Life on the Street, where he played Detective Frank Pembleton.

Braugher's talent was recognized countless times through awards for his work.

For his portrayal of Pembleton, the actor won the Emmy Award for this role in 1998 and two Television Critics Association Awards in 1997 and 1998.

For Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he secured four Emmy Award nominations.

He also scored two nods for his work on the TNT series Men of a Certain Age.

More recently, Braugher was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work on The Good Fight at the 2023 Critics' Choice TV Awards.

Braugher was also well-known for his voice work, counting credits on Axe Cop and BoJack Horseman.

At the time of his death, Braugher was also working on the upcoming Netflix drama series The Residence.

Braugher is survived by his wife Ami Brabson, sons Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley, as well as his brother Charles Jennings and his mother Sally Braugher.

After the shocking announcement, the actor's Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Men of a Certain Age, and The Good Fight co-stars led the tributes on social media.

Can't believe you're gone so soon.

I'm honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon.

You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship.

Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like.

Joe Lo Truglio

So many wonderful stories will be told about Andre but for now, all my love goes to his wife Ami and his three boys, who he loved very much and flew back every weekend from the show to be with.

We all know how powerful an actor he was, but even more, Andre knew exactly well his most important role and was deeply proud of it… I miss him so much already.

What an honor to work with a man who knew what it was really all about. I feel blessed and thankful. Miss you Capt Holt. Love, Porkchop.

Audra McDonald

I cannot process the news of Andre's passing. He was the most generous, brilliant, intelligent and hilarious soul.

He joined The Good Fight late in our run but from day one it was if he had always been a part of our family.

He kept us all in stitches on set. He was such a joy to work with and had the most beautiful curiosity about all things and all people.

I loved every single minute of working with him. He will be so sorely missed.

All my love and light to his lovely wife Ami and their sons. Rest in Peace Dear Dear Andre.

We would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Andre Braugher during this difficult time.

May he rest in peace.

Over the course of 2021 we said good-bye to many television shows. Read on to find out which ones did or did not go out in a blaze of glory.

The post The Best & Worst TV Finales of 2021 appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
What do good TV shows and bad TV shows have in common — they all come to an end.

This year we had to bid farewell to some fan favorites and some we didn't even have a chance to be fans of before cancellation.

The real question is whether these finales provided a satisfying resolution for their respective series?

Best & Worst Finales of 2021
(Netflix)

Scroll down to find out which shows made our best and worst list.

Queen of the South – Best

Teresa Is Queen - Queen of the South Season 5 Episode 9
(USA Network)

Queen of the South had one of the best finales of 2021.

The final episode was an intriguing, heart-pounding ride that managed to stay true to its drug cartel roots, answer the flash-forwards fans have pondered for years, and give us an epic happy ending.

Every twist and turn from Teresa's "death" to Pote's capture left us on the edge of our seats.

And even though we lost some of our favorite characters this season (it's a narco show, so that's to be expected), our hearts sored as Pote finally got to meet his daughter. Teresa's inner circle found their version of Zihuatanejo.

Good Witch – Worst

Most of the couples ended up happy.

However, Hallmark broke up Abigail and Donovan in the series finale.

This after they spent three years trying to break the Merriwick and Davenport curse to get their happy ending.

We didn't appreciate them breaking up a long-term, fan-favorite couple at the end.

Wynonna Earp – Best

Wynonna distance - Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 12
(Michelle Faye/Wynonna Earp Productions, Inc./SYFY)

Wynonna Earp's finale provided such an emotional ride for fans.

Of course we want more, but the emotional goodbyes we received were perfection.

We will miss Wynnona, Waverly, Nicole, Doc, Jeremy, and everyone else in the Ghost River Triangle, but the finale wrapped all of the major plot threads beautifully.

If we receive more from the Earps (in any medium), we'll be grateful, but for now, this is a brilliant ending.

Cowboy Bebop – Worst

Final Fight - Cowboy Bebop Season 1 Episode 10
(Geoffrey Short/Netflix)

This live-action remake of the beloved anime series was an ambitious project by any measure, and the season managed to live up to the style and pacing of the source material for the most part.

Unfortunately, the original series had a definitive end where the live-action was looking to run for a couple of seasons at least. This meant that the finale went off-the-rails as the climactic showdown between Fearless/Spike and Vicious played out.

Julia's interjection was understandable and satisfying on some levels, but her ultimate revenge on both men was disappointing and inconclusive. Worse than that, the narratives of the three core cast members were all left twisting in the wind.

On top of that, the final scene introduces Ed and brings back Ein, teasing a new adventure with the hacker superteam. Alas, Netflix pulled the plug on the series just 21 days after its drop, effectively killing any hope of seeing what Ed and Ein were recruiting Spike for.

Supergirl – Best

United Together - Supergirl Season 6 Episode 20
(Bettina Strauss © 2021 The CW Network)

Supergirl had one of the best series finales this year.

The final episode brought back fan-favorites Winn, Mon-El, and James to help defeat Lex.

Everyone was there for Alex and Kelly's wedding day. Brainy realized he loved Nia more than the future and returned, declaring his love for her.

And our heroine, Kara, finally decided to have it all. She became editor-in-chief of CatCo with Cat Grant and came clean about being Supergirl.

Good Girls – Worst

Of The People - Good Girls Season 4 Episode 16
(Evans Vestal Ward/NBC)

This wasn't necessarily the worst finale, but it left a lot to be desired.

Good Girls wasn't supposed to end like this, but the series' untimely cancellation meant a season finale had to transform itself into a series finale, which is almost impossible to pull off. Annie getting arrested, and the ladies all splintered apart by the time the credits rolled was sad.

There were so many loose threads still out there, and for that reason alone, we can't possibly put this on the best list. But we say that with a very heavy heart.

Superstore – Best

Jonah and Amy's Parental Bliss - Superstore
(NBC)

When it came to sending a series off in style with a perfect understanding of the show's mission, characters, and storylines over the years, Superstore understood the assignment.

America Ferrera returned to the series to provide fans of Jonah and Amy a satisfying reunion that they earned, followed by a time jump that revealed they had children of their own. Via that time jump, we also saw that the Cloud 9 crew were still close and met up with each other frequently, like a family.

It was a realistic ending. The store's parent company decided to shut down physical stores and switch to online shopping, which led to mass layoffs of thousands of employees, including our beloved crew.

It was their reward for barely squeaking by, working overtime during the pandemic, as capitalism swallowed them whole and spat them out with little respect. But somehow, while staying true to the bleak reality of capitalism on the working class, the finale was still hopeful and upbeat.

On My Block – Worst

Reading the Manuscript - On My Block Season 4 Episode 10
(Netflix (Screenshot))

It wasn't the absolute worst thing in the world, but it was an underwhelming finale. The core four spent the opening part of the season fractured and not working through their differences after becoming distant from each other for over a year. Most of them didn't get much of a happy ending either.

It was heartbreaking and frustrating that Jasmine had to give up her dream of going to Berkeley to stay home and care for her father. She was supposed to conquer the world, not have her light extinguished.

Oscar's demise before his child was born was one of the most devastating parts of the season, and we never found out who was behind his death. Cesar and Monse didn't exactly find their way back to each other; we lost Abuelita, have no idea what Ruby's future plans are, and storylines about the rollerworld money were incomplete.

It felt like they rushed to wrap up the series, and it was generally unfulfilling all around.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Best

The Reunion Heist - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
(NBC)

After a shortened season plagued with identity issues, Brooklyn Nine-Nine went out on a high.

The annual heist served as the perfect vehicle for allowing the characters to say goodbye.

It was fun and poignant.

Even though the characters will no longer all be working together daily, it's comforting to know they'll always be part of each other's lives. Nine-Nine!

YOU – Worst

Joe Strikes Again - tall - YOU Season 3 Episode 8
(John P. Fleenor/ Netflix)

YOU's Season 3 finale wasn't the worst ending in the world, but it was very underwhelming compared to Joe's adventures in the past.

The final battle against Love had been building up in the prior episodes, and we knew their toxic relationship needed to reach an end. They were not a good match for each other!

However, when all was said and done, YOU simply washed any previous development to start fresh for Joe in a new location.

It wasn't the first time Joe moved someplace new and assumed a new identity, so this season finale felt like a cut-and-paste plot just so the show could relieve the magic of the first season.

Midnight Mass – Best

The Night Angel
(Netflix)

Midnight Mass finale ended the limited series on a high note.

All of the mysteries and building supernatural tension exploded into utter chaos.

The finale raged like a wildfire! Townsfolk turned against townfolk. Many were slaughtered, and the effects of the demon (and the growing religious fanaticism) reached its breaking point.

Midnight Mass delivered on its theme of morality, good vs. evil, and hypocrisy in a well-structured and powerful ending that served as the best episode of the season.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine raises the stakes significantly for the penultimate episodes.

On Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 8, Holt and Kevin are renewing their vows after a tumultuous year apart.

But first, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7 has one of the biggest jaw-dropping reveals on the history of this show — Charles Boyle is not biologically a Boyle.

Let Jake Handle It - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7
(NBC)

There can only be so many twists and turns with only a couple of episodes left before the series finale.

But "Game of Boyles" stuns us all when a murder investigation leads Jake to discover that Charles is not a Boyle. His mother had an affair with a florist, but Charles's father loved him so much that he raised him as a Boyle.

Superstore and Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Honestly, our hearts broke. Charles's entire life revolves around his family name.

Being a Boyle is not just about having the name — it is about the Boyle family lifestyle. And that includes six-minute-long hugs, beige-on-tan clothes, and a disturbing vocabulary that is perfect for any sitcom.

Jake: Wait, what? Charles, we solved the case! He confessed!

Charles: It doesn’t matter! I’m still not a Boyle. I’m just a normal person. Normal from snout to anus!

🔗 permalink: I’m still not a Boyle. I’m just a normal person. Normal from snout to anus!

But Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7 proves that being a Boyle is more than just about DNA. And if anybody embodies the Boyle characteristics, it is Charles.

He does not need the DNA to be a part of the family. He is a shining example of what it means to be a Boyle — inappropriate acronyms, a lack of respect for personal space, overdramatic moments, and eccentric behavior.

(NBC)

And Charles proves himself when he opens the old Boyle Family Jar — a jar that has been sealed shut for decades. We are not surprised to learn that the Boyles have their own version of Excalibur, and nothing was as satisfying as watching Charles open that jar.

He may not be a Boyle by blood, but he's a Boyle by heart and soul, and that counts far more than blood and biology ever could.

Charles: Well, you know what they say — time flies when God pulls down his pants and takes a dump on your life.

🔗 permalink: Time flies when God pulls down his pants and takes a dump on your life.

While Jake, Terry, and Charles deal with the Boyles, Rosa and Amy attempt to reunite Holt and Kevin once and for all.

It was not as funny as the Boyles, but it did result in what we have been waiting for all season — Holt and Kevin's reunion.

And what could be better than the most practical couple getting back together through a rain kiss? It is a classic and cheesy romantic moment, but Holt and Kevin deserve nothing less than the best.

A Long-Awaited Reunion - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7
(NBC)

Holt and Kevin's reunion leads to their vow renewal ceremony. But beforehand, Holt drops a bombshell — he plans to retire from the NYPD.

While his decision comes as a shock, it is not surprising. Ever since he ran for commissioner on Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 5, it was clear Holt was looking for something more. But the news still hit us hard, and the precinct would not be the same without him.

Besides, "Renewal" gives us a long-awaited storyline — Holt and Jake going undercover together. And what better way to do so than to prove O'Sullivan tried to sabotage Amy and Holt's police reform project?

Holt: This time, we’re pulling out all the stops; it will be a truly extravagant affair.

Charles: Oh, how extravagant are we talking? Champagne pyramid?

Terry: Destination wedding?

Jake: Celebrity officiant?

Holt: We got the salad forks! Can you believe it, a second fork?! Who do we think we are?! Oh no, you’re shocked at how garish it is. Now I don’t even want to tell you the other surprise I have in store for Kevin.

Jake: Wait, let me guess — you’re getting bread plates?

Holt: Don’t be absurd; we’re not crazy. No, the big surprise is I’m retiring from the NYPD.

Terry: Wait —

Charles: What?!

Jake: Why did you lead with the salad forks?!

🔗 permalink: Why did you lead with the salad forks?!

We had the privilege of seeing Holt use Jake's tactics to go undercover, something that kept us laughing long after the scene was over.

And we also got to see Holt and Jake have a heart-to-heart over Holt's retirement plans.

Caught In Action - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 8
(NBC)

Holt and Jake's conversation is yet another bittersweet moment that reminds us this show is coming to an end. Our lives will feel a little emptier without seeing their dynamic on our screen every week.

After all, Holt and Jake's relationship is arguably the funniest aspect of the show. They had us laughing from the very beginning, with many sweet moments peppered in between. And we know they will keep us laughing until the very end.

But Holt and Jake's conversation makes Holt realize he is not ready to retire. His work is simply not finished, especially with the police reform project on the line.

Truthfully, we were relieved to hear that from Holt, and we were even more excited when Kevin supported Holt every step of the way.

The reality is, Kevin just wants his husband to devote time to their marriage in return, so why would he not help Holt when he needed it the most?

Undercover Partners - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 8
(Jordin Althaus/NBC)

"Renewal" is a beautiful episode that certainly pays tribute to Holt and Kevin's relationship. While they never had the same screentime Jake and Amy did, they were in our hearts all the same.

And it is a good thing Holt changes his mind about retirement since his police reform project with Amy proves to be a success — giving both him and Amy a promotion they worked toward their entire careers.

Our hearts swelled as we learned that Holt was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police Reform, and he promoted Amy to Chief, bringing both their character arcs full circle.

Holt initially joined the NYPD to create change and build a new relationship between the NYPD and the community. Now, he will oversee that change with Amy's help.

Holt: It is exciting, but there is no guarantee it will work. There’s a lot of resistance to change. Nevertheless, it’s our duty to try because if we don’t; then we are truly lost.

🔗 permalink: There’s a lot of resistance to change. Nevertheless, it’s our duty to try.

But Amy's promotion initiates a new dilemma for Jake and Amy. Amy's new job has significantly increased hours, which means she will not be able to parent as much as she does right now.

Foul Play Suspected - Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7
(NBC)

But Jake insists that she has to accept the job offer because it is a chance to make a real difference, which certainly poses new questions, the primary one being: should Jake become a full stay-at-home dad?

Jake is currently suspended for wrongful arrest and police intimidation.

He wanted so badly to act out a movie that he did whatever it took, and it ended up costing him a five-month suspension. And Jake's suspension certainly gives him enough time to reevaluate his career choices.

It is no doubt Jake has been a great detective over the years, solving many challenging cases.

Lucifer and Chloe - Lucifer

But lately, with his overbearing presence on Rosa's police brutality case and his insistence to solve every case his way, we wonder if he is asking himself why he is still a detective.

How can Jake make a difference in the community? Would he make a more significant difference in becoming a stay-at-home dad and giving back to the community when he can? Or did he learn his lesson and plans to move forward to make a real difference as a detective?

No matter what Jake chooses, we know one thing is for sure — it will be the right decision.

And what better way to end the show than to have Jake reflect on his career to make the right decision?

Holt gathers Charles, Jake, Terry, and Scully to talk about his and Kevin's upcoming vow renewal ceremony. Then, Holt reveals he plans on retiring from the NYPD. They discuss Holt's retirement plans and agree to keep them from Amy.

The squad arrives early on the day of the vow renewal ceremony to help set up. Jake finds Holt secretly working on the police reform project because of a numbers issue. Jake and Holt realize that O'Sullivan tampered with the numbers.

Jake and Holt gather the squad and catch them up. Jake explains the plan. Kevin approaches the squad, and Holt tells him that Jake was watching porn to cover up their work.

Jake and Holt discuss how they will go undercover at O'Sullivan's house. They end up going as gas workers.

Amy explains to Terry how he will get O'Sullivan's fingerprint. Terry accidentally tells Amy that Holt is retiring, causing her to go into a state of shock.

Kevin asks Charles and Scully where Holt is. Rosa knocks over a vase and blames Cheddar as a distraction.

Jake and Holt discuss how they will get into the basement. They initially go with Holt's plan, but when O'Sullivan's mother refuses to let them in, Holt reverts to Jake's seduction plan.

Terry meets with O'Sullivan. Amy almost foils their plan because she is upset over Holt's retirement. O'Sullivan makes a move that neither of them expects.

Jake gets O'Sullivan's laptop and goes back upstairs. Just as they are about to leave, Holt calls O'Sullivan's mother Mrs. O'Sullivan, making her realize that Jake and Holt are undercover. She threatens them with a gun and locks them in the basement.

Cheddar starts barking, which worries Kevin. Rosa makes up an excuse for the barking. After he walks away, Charles and Rosa argue over using Cheddar as a cover. Then, Rosa and Cheddar stare at each other until Rosa wins.

Terry tries to convince O'Sullivan to give back the lyrics he is holding. Amy goes off on a tangent regarding Holt's retirement, while O'Sullivan starts ranting about Billy Joel. Terry loses it, but he manages to get back the lyric sheet from O'Sullivan.

Jake and Holt figure out a way to contact someone for help.

After O'Sullivan leaves, Terry hands Amy the evidence and reassures her that she will be fine without Holt.

Kevin starts looking for Cheddar. Cheddar starts barking, which leads to Charles, Rosa, Scully, and Kevin finding Cheddar and Jake's case plans.

Jake and Holt have a heart-to-heart. Kevin and Rosa burst downstairs, undercover as cops to get Jake and Holt out of there.

Once everyone is outside, Holt tells Kevin his plans to retire. They talk about the police reform plan and balancing their relationship and their careers.

Holt and Kevin renew their vows in front of the squad.

Two weeks later, Holt tells the squad the commissioner approved the police reform plan and that they promoted him. Holt promotes Amy to Chief. Later that evening, Jake and Amy discuss their parenting schedule with Amy's new job.
