NBC Cancels Animal Practice, Calls Up Whitney

Animal Practice has been put down.

The sitcom, whose monkey got more press than any new star on NBC over the summer, garnered only 3.8 million total viewers this week. It will air its final episode on Wednesday, November 7 and be replaced a week later by Whitney.

Why not Community, fans of Greendale are likely wondering? There’s no way of knowing, of course, but it’s safe to assume NBC is waiting to air that beloved series on Thursday nights again, likely after 30 Rock has completed its final season.

Animal Practice is the second new show of the fall to get the axe, following CBS’ Made in Jersey.

JoAnna Garcia Cast as Female Lead on Animal Practice

There’s been a human being shake-up on Animal Practice.

JoAnna Garcia (Better With You, Royal Pains) has replaced Amy Huberman as the female lead on this new NBC comedy, which will air Wednesdays at 8 pm. and star Justin Kirk as a veterinarian with a disdain for his patients’ owners.

Garcia will portray Dorothy, the boss and ex-girlfriend of Kirk’s George Coleman.

Animal Practice Premiere Clip: Making His Rounds

On Wednesday nights this fall, Justin Kirk will star as Dr. George Coleman on Animal Practice, a New York veterinarian who treats his non-human patients like kings and their owners, as teased in the following clip, like animals.

Think House. But with monkeys.

The sitcom also stars Tyler Labine, Bobby Lee and newcomer Betsy Sodaro. Get your first look at the premiere in this sneak peek. Will you give it a chance?
