Laura Bell Bundy will be checking in to Anger Management Season 2 as a series regular.

The former Hart of Dixie player will essentially take over for Selma Blair on the FX sitcom, after that actress left the series amidst a feud with Charlie Sheen.

Bundy will portray Charlie’s new sex study research partner, Dr. Jordan Denby. The character is described as a recent divorcee who enjoys her alcohol and also has the occasional mood swing.

Brian Austin Green, who appeared in the past as Sean, the boyfriend of Charlie’s ex-wife Jen, was also made a regular cast member in June.

Selma Blair is out. Brian Austin Green is in.

Just days after Charlie Sheen forced out Blair as his co-star, the FX hit has promoted Green, who debuted last season as Sean, the boyfriend of Charlie’s ex-wife Jen.

Green – the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum who was last seen on TBS’ Wedding Band – will serve as an antagonist to Sheen’s main character. Look for him to pop up again around midseason of Season 2.

The sitcom, meanwhile, is also seeking to cast a “sexy” new female lead to replace Blair, according to network insider. All we know at the moment is that this new love interest will not be a therapist like Sheen’s troubled lead.

Looks like Charlie Sheen got the last laugh.

Selma Blair is leaving FX’s sitcom Anger Management after a falling out with the actor, which allegedly began when she criticized him off the set, and soon led to him demanding Blair’s exit.

He reportedly threatening to walk from his own show unless producers fired Blair, and unlike his days on Two and a Half Men, Sheen has an ownership stake now. So his wish was granted.

In a statement Tuesday, producer Lionsgate said the actress won’t be returning to the series, declining to elaborate. The company wished her “the very best” but issued no further statement.

Neither star’s rep commented on Blair’s departure, which comes while the show is about halfway through a 90-episode order from FX that it received after a generally successful first season.

LeAnn Rimes has signed on for some Anger Management.

The singer – who has been in the news more in the last couple years for her affair with Eddie Cibrian than for her music – will guest star on a future episode of the FX sitcom as the sister of one of Charlie’s prison group members.

Look for her character to get romantically involved with the therapist, as an insider tells FX Rimes “will hook up and make out with Charlie in some scenes.”

The episode will film in July and air some time this fall.

Rimes joins Lindsay Lohan as troubled celebrities who have landed roles on the terrible FX series.

This seems about right, doesn’t it?

Lindsay Lohan has booked a role on Anger Management… as herself… in need of therapy.

FX sources confirm the actress will appear on a Season 2 episode of this sitcom and strike up a romance with Charlie Sheen’s character after becoming his patient.

The troubled stars filmed scenes together for the upcoming Scary Movie 5 and Sheen actually gave the actress $100,000 recently to help her pay off taxes. It’s random but true.

No word yet on when Lohan’s Anger Management episode will air.

Prepare for a lot more Charlie Sheen in your lives, America.

FX has ordered 90 additional episodes of Anger Management, per the original, unusual arrangement that guaranteed if certain “thresholds” were met ratings-wise, the sitcom would automatically be rewarded with an enormous follow-up.

On Season 2, which will debut some time in 2013, Martin Sheen will join the cast as his son’s fictional father. The veteran actor has already appeared on one episode in that role.

Said Chuck Saftler, Executive Vice President of FX Networks, in a statement:

“We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for Anger Management to earn its back-90 order and the series met and exceed those metrics. Bruce Helford has created a sitcom that works extremely well in our pre-10 p.m. programming lineup. Charlie Sheen and the entire cast did an amazing job in the first ten episodes, which were produced in a very tight window. I have no doubt that the producers and cast will be able to pull off the Herculean task of producing 90 episodes over the next two years.”

  • Louie has been picked up for Season 4, with Landgraf making it clear he’s as big a fan of this unique sitcom as anyone else in the room. (“It’s great because Louis C.K. is great,” he said.)
  • It’s “very likely” that Anger Management will be picked up for 90 more episodes, per the unusual deal struck by FX prior to its premiere. If/when this renewal takes place, Martin Sheen will be promoted to series regular. He debuts as Charlie’s dad on the Season 1 finale.
  • The network has ordered seven additional episodes of Brand X.
  • American Horror Story will return in October and, as previously confirmed, will be set in a mental asylum run by the Catholic Church.
  • Landgraf is very confident in a Wilfred renewal and sees Justified running at least six seasons.

After two episodes, Charlie Sheen is proving to be anything but a losing proposition for FX.

The series debut of Anger Management garnered 5.47 million viewers last night, a record number for the premiere of a cable comedy and the most watched series premiere in FX history.

The second installment, meanwhile, actually improved upon this figure: 5.74 million households tuned in.

Sheen also built a very strong lead in for a pair of other critical darlings: The season premieres of Wilfred and Louie increase 71 and 55 percent, respectively, over their prior season averages.

Anger Management is an awful sitcom. The first two episodes of this Charlie Sheen trainwreck didn't make us laugh once.

The post Anger Management Review: Sorry, Charlie appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
This will not be a very long review. I don’t have much to say about Anger Management except this: I didn’t laugh once. I cringed far more than I smiled, suffering through back-to-back episodes of painful jokes and obvious set-ups.

Then again, I’ve felt the same way every time I’ve watched a Two and a Half Men episode, so it’s entirely possible that viewers who followed Charlie Sheen from CBS to FX are giving him a standing ovation right about now. I’d just love to hear why.

Anger Management Premiere Picture
(Greg Gayne/FX)

As far as comeback vehicles go, Anger Management was probably the best Sheen could do. He plays a therapist trying to come to peace with his troubled past and learn from mistakes. The character allows him to almost apologize for real-life behavior on a weekly basis.

The best thing I can say about about the series is that, aside from the opening, it didn’t force any meta jokes down our throat. The premise really takes care of that on its own. I would have turned off the television if there was a single line about “Tiger’s blood.”

Instead, it was one generic punch line after another, most based on sex and dating, with extreme examples of over-acting from everyone in Charlie’s therapy group.

It’s a very odd fit on FX, whose comedy leanings to date favor more edgier, far less conventional programs such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the incredible Louie.

Again, I just can’t much about this sort of show. I’m a television fan whose favorite sitcoms are Parks and Recreation, Community and 30 Rock. There’s not a lot of overlap between the humor on those programs and the jokes laid out here.

So I’ll use this as a forum for Sheen fans to commiserate instead: What did you think of the Anger Management premiere?
