An unequivocal and unbearable truth of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise is that it has surpassed problematic in enabling and exploiting Angela Deem’s abusive behavior.

And frankly, it needs to stop.

Angela Isn’t the “Queen” of 90 Day Fiancé; She’s a Blight

No, it’s nothing new that reality TV has essentially made stars out of problematic individuals.

It’s par for the course with the genre, and it has become so deeply embedded in the culture of reality television that it’s now treated as a shortcut or fast track to celebritydom.

But 90 Day Fiance has made some twisted form of starlet out of Angela Deem, and we’ve long since surpassed it being acceptable.

The woman should no longer have a platform of any kind, and yet the franchise gleefully lays it out for her, allowing her to be hours late to reunion specials or holding them up, rolling out their rendition of a red carpet for her antics.

But here’s the thing: Her antics were never fun or entertaining.

Angela’s Reign of Abuse and Terror Has Gone on For Too Long

Since her first appearance in 2018, Angela was problematic.

She’s been a part of this franchise and airing her and her family’s dirty laundry for SIX years!

It’s been six years too long since the network found more value in her disturbing behavior as a selling and promotion point rather than realizing that enough is enough and putting their foot down.

For six seasons, we’ve watched this woman dominate the franchise with some of the most grotesque and flagrantly abusive behavior (and there’s no shortage of that).

Angela’s abusive tendencies have become a staple of the series and one of their biggest promotional points for a three-part, dragged-out 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? Tell All reunion special.

The 90 Day Fiance Franchise Exploits Angela’s Abuse for Ratings

For the past two installments from 90: Day Fiance: Happily Ever After After? Season 8 Tell-All, they’ve fixated on the drama of Angela and Michael’s marriage.

The season finally saw Michael arriving in America after a seven-year battle to get to the States.

Unsurprisingly, it was rocky territory, with Angela calling him out for the umpteenth time for verbally cheating on her and accusing him of scamming her.

By then, it had been clear to every soul in America that these two are toxic for one another and that the relationship is abusive.

Yet, the series subjected us to this focus as if it was a celebratory occasion that Michael finally made it to America.

Michael’s Arrival in America Only Highlighted Angela’s Abuse More

From that point forward, it became increasingly more disturbing to witness Michael directly in Angela’s environment with no place to go and having to deal directly with all of her toxicity and negativity.

Michael arrived at an unkept home, and Angela repeatedly joked about his arrival, meaning that he could clean it for her.

The charged nature of that statement and the power dynamic between the two was just another in a million instances over the years that didn’t sit right in one’s spirit.

But alas, it was just another “fun” thing to insert into the season’s edits for entertainment.

The season also seemed to delight in providing a “gasp-worthy” moment: Angela berating Michael and spitting on him for yet another imagined slight and, ironically, for lacking decorum.

There’s a Disturbing Disparity in the Response to Domestic Abuse Against Men

There is an appalling double standard when it comes to the portrayal of domestic abuse against men.

For many years, the series and many of its contestants have casually dismissed Angela’s antics under the guise of “That’s just Angela.”

Their peers’ passive approach and reaction to Angela’s behavior are types of complicity that leave little space to properly address issues.

The series very rarely calls Angela out for her actions; instead, it relies on them to deliver the “OMG” moments and drama that rake in the ratings and money.

Even the reunions and tell-alls accommodate and work around Angela’s aggressive, domineering, and abusive behavior rather than shut it down.

Angela Faces Zero Pushback or Accountability on 90 Day Fiance

The other series stars and even Shaun Robinson tiptoe around Angela’s feelings, giving this woman the impression that if she walks off the stage or decides to opt-out at the barest hint of criticism, then the entire franchise and ratings will fall apart like a house of cards.

It’s so far from the truth that it’s laughable.

For multiple seasons, viewers face the same setup: Angela gets all of this space to truly go off the rails, and no one does anything about it.

Angela shuts down the few stars who challenge her, and most of the others either deem the drama “too much” or openly express that they’re afraid of her.

Angela gets to essentially and emotionally hold everyone else hostage under the guise of providing entertainment, and by now, there’s a severe underestimation of what viewers are willing to tune into for anymore.

The Age of Angela Running Rampant Needs to End

This season, they did something unusual but with the full intent of maximizing viewers’ interest. The thought process behind sticking all of this season’s participants into a Tell-All House was sound.

For fans of the series, seeing everyone together under the same roof before they show up to unpack the season’s drama is a reality TV goldmine.

In many ways, the Tell All house delivered on that, giving us some of the series’s most likable and loathsome interactions.

But in the same vein, much of the buildup revolved around whether Angela and Michael would show up at the Tell All house at all.

We knew they likely would by now, but Angela loves to draw things out, make them dramatic, and have the grand diva entrance.

And the show? Well, they accommodate that in all its glory.

90 Day Fiance’s Complicity in Angela’s Toxic Abuse of Michael is Unacceptable

Once she and Michael showed up, they forced the most toxic exchange between them yet on viewers.

It was uncomfortable to watch Angela display all the classic moves of a narcissistic abuser, including alienating Michael from everyone, trying to control who he spoke to and what he said, and rallying the house against him so that they all sided with her.

She was aggressive, loud, brash, and disregarding his personal space.

What we witnessed was flat-out verbal and emotional abuse on our screens, and everyone in the house bore witness to it.

But very few were willing to call it what it was, tiptoeing around Angela or laughing her off as “crazy” before digging into their own drama.

Commendably, an unexpected supporter arose in the form of Rob, the only other house guest and star of the season, who told Michael directly that what Angela was doing wasn’t right and called her behavior what it was: abuse.

There was one lone voice in the crowd amongst a bunch of individuals either too afraid or too fame-motivated to be honest about what was happening and call things as they were.

We spent so much time watching Angela demean, berate, and assault Michael that it was evident some Quinn King cohort was enthusiastically seeing dollar signs and ratings over safety.

The Unchecked Normalization of Angela’s Abuse is Irresponsible and Dangerous

The lack of intervention as things gradually escalated was abhorrent, yet it was par for the course of Angela and Michael’s entire existence in this series.

The Tell-All couch time was no better, with Michael unable to voice or express himself without Angela shutting him down or overtalking him.

He fielded accusations of scams and infidelity with the tone of the Tell All, somehow implying that his possible actions were somehow a catalyst to Angela’s behavior.

At this point, it doesn’t matter what Michael may or may not have done — nothing about Angela’s behavior is okay, nor should it be condoned.

Yet we’ll be heading into another section of this neverending Tell-All, and the entire hook for it via promotion is Michael taking a lie detector test.

By this point, it’s so sick and twisted that clearly, everyone involved has lost the plot entirely.

We’re privy to all the flagrant abuse and toxicity onscreen and have been for years.

There’s Reality Behind the Entertainment With Reality TV

And it only worsens as we hear bits and pieces about everything that has unfolded offscreen.

There are many bits of information pouring in, including how Michael fled her home without telling her and prompting law enforcement to track him down to ensure that he was okay.

He’s separated himself from her and spoken on social media and in interviews about needing the space and how he didn’t feel wanted, heavily implying he didn’t feel safe in the home with Angela.

He even specifically stated that he felt “scared” and spoke with the knowledge of someone who knows and feels that he doesn’t have much say in how he’s treated here as a Nigerian male immigrant in a relationship with a volatile American white woman.

I’ll call the thing the thing here; he has a valid reason to be wary.

Yet none of this hinders Angela’s presence throughout multiple series in the 90-Day Fiance franchise.

If the roles were reversed, the network would not continue enabling an abuser as a cash cow for the franchise.

We’ve surpassed the point where Angela’s continued presence going unchecked is anything close to acceptable or okay.

TLC on Tuesday shared the official trailer, cast, and premiere date for the next chapter in the venerable universe.

New episodes begin Sunday, October 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Once again, episodes will also drop on Max and Discovery+ after their launch on the linear cable network.

The only repeat couples this season are Gino and Jasmine, with the latter finally arriving in the U.S. to begin the 90-day process.

Unfortunately, it looks like their relationship hits a snag when she finds makeup in Gino's car and flies way off the handle when he claims to have no recollection of how it got there.

At one point, Jasmine screams, "You're a fu–ing cheater!" at Gino before declaring that she wants to return home.

"This time around, Jasmine finally arrives in the U.S. after overcoming major hurdles in the visa process back in Panama," the cabler teases.

TLC shared the official trailer for the new season Friday afternoon, and it promises to push the envelope in ways its predecessors have not.

If you were looking for something dramatic to add to your late summer TV viewing, this new chapter in the venerable reality TV franchise might be what you're looking for.

Franchise mainstays Jovi Dufren & Yara Zaya, Angela Deem & Michael Ilesanm, Big Ed Brown & Liz Woods, Molly Hopkins & Kelly Brown, and Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa are all present for this couples therapy-esque series.

"In a final attempt to salvage their relationships, each couple will participate in a couples retreat to determine whether or not they can heal old wounds," TLC shared in a teaser logline last month. 

"Alongside a team of professionals, they'll actively navigate issues with trust, sex, jealousy, anger, and intimacy."

"Explosive group therapies, intense couples' sessions, past life regressions, unique on-and-off-resort activities, and so much more ensue," the cabler teases, adding:

"At the end of the retreat, each couple must decide if they will stay together or move on."

The trailer declares that the couples have two weeks to get their relationships back on the right track.

Michael, unfortunately, is still not in the U.S., so he's joining the social experiment virtually. Make of that what you will.

Always one to go to extreme lengths to keep the spark alive, Angela is seen dressing up for him, but based on his reaction, he's not impressed.

Things between Yara and Jovi appear to be difficult, more so when Yara reveals she "hired someone."

To what, exactly? We don't quite know, but it seems like she wanted to trick Jovi into getting close to someone else.

Obviously, that doesn't go down well, and neither does the fact that Big Ed tries to offer them relationship advice.

Admittedly, the franchise is growing stale, but maybe 90 Day: Last Resort will give the series a jolt of life.

Thankfully, the cabler revealed the final two couples on Thursday morning, so we no longer have to speculate whether we'll be terrorized by Jasmine & Gino in this new chapter.

So, who's joining the others?

Kalani and Asuelu are the latest couple to be announced, and their description doesn't give us the fuzzies that they'll be able to repair things.

Kalani and Asuelu "arrive at the resort in a state of relationship crisis. As they navigate their trust issues, huge revelations come to light."

"Trying to reconnect through therapy, can Kalani and Asuelu move past their indiscretions and find love again, not just for them but for the sake of their children?"

But who's the next couple?

Molly & Kelly "have reached a point where they struggle to communicate. After a few short months of living together in Georgia, Molly and Kelly separated and are questioning if they really know each other at all."

"They actively work together to try to rekindle the romance."

"Will this retreat give them hope of finding their love again?"

While TLC would like to keep things under wraps until the episodes premiere, it sounds like they're officially over.

"Five 90 DAY FIANCÉ couples have reached their breaking points," the official logline teases. 

"In a final attempt to salvage their relationships, each couple will participate in a couples retreat to determine whether or not they can heal old wounds."

Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi have been a part of the franchise for years, but their relationship has been brimming with toxicity since their debut.

They don't communicate very well, and when they're apart, well, things tend to get worse for them.

Angela and Michael "are in love, but the long-distance relationship has taken a toll on them over the last five years, and now they find themselves a world apart physically and emotionally," TLC says of their relationship on the spinoff. 

"Loneliness has led them to make bad decisions and to be suspicious of one another."

"Can the retreat help them forgive, learn to trust again, bridge the gap in their communication, and figure out how to stay close despite the distance, or will old habits die hard and ultimately lead to the end of Angela and Michael's relationship?"

Many fans of the reality TV franchise have had enough of Angela's antics, but maybe they'll be able to connect with her as she dives into why her relationship with Michael is so fraught.

They have had plenty of laughs on-screen, but recently, it seems like the constant bickering has harmed their marriage.

TLC on Friday confirmed the first two couples participating, and they're polarizing for sure.

First up are Jovi and Yara, who have made countless appearances across the franchise over the last few years.

"Jovi & Yara are very much in love with an undeniable attraction for one another, but over time resentment has grown and created an emotional divide," the description for their storyline teases.

"At the resort, they discover there is discord between them as they can't seem to agree on what they want for their future."

"While both have secrets they are holding onto, will the resort provide a place and time where they can finally thrive and reconnect as a couple moving forward?"

They have their fans, and if their previous appearances on 90 Day Fiance have proven anything, they also have their issues.

The second couple joining the show is Ed and Liz.

Ed's been a part of the franchise for years, while Liz is more recent.

"ED & LIZ have found themselves in a cycle of make ups and break ups for the last 2 years," their description reads. 

"With dwindling trust and fear the other is looking for a way out, they are hoping to break down barriers and rebuild towards a new life…which holds the possibility of a new home and a potential wedding."

The 90 Day Fiance franchise has grown exponentially over the last five years, adding show after show.

This is the first show that will unite cast members as their relationships are crumbling.

90 Day: The Last Resort is real.

According to the cabler, the series focuses on five couples who have "reached their breaking points."

"In a final attempt to salvage their relationships, each couple will participate in a couples retreat to determine whether or not they can heal old wounds," the promotional material states. 

"Alongside a team of professionals, they'll actively navigate issues with trust, sex, jealousy, anger, and intimacy."

"Explosive group therapies, intense couples' sessions, past life regressions, unique on-and-off-resort activities, and so much more ensue," TLC warns, adding:

"At the end of the retreat, each couple must decide if they will stay together or move on."

In a word? Whoa.

It seems the franchise is channeling Married at First Sight, which features several moments in which the couples can decide to stay together or move on.

Whether their decisions will have any lasting ramifications for their places in the franchise, we don't know.

TLC has yet to confirm which cast members are participating, but our sister site, The Hollywood Gossip, did some sleuthing to get answers.

Angela Deem will be present. There's no telling whether her on-off-again husband, Michael Ilesanmi, will appear in the flesh or if his appearances will be conducted remotely.

Despite a never-ending stream of spinoffs, interest in the franchise is higher than ever.

TLC announced Monday that Before the 90 Days Season 6 will premiere Sunday, June 4th at 8 p.m. ET.

This time, though, we'll be meeting more new couples — seven!

That's not to say there won't be any returning faces. This is 90 Day Fiance after all, and TLC still thinks Big Ed Brown deserves a platform.

Gino and Jasmine are staging a comeback, which confirms they managed to work things out after their explosive first season on the show.

There's a lot to unpack, so let's take a look at our new cast.

We'll start with Amanda and Razvan…

Amanda, a widowed mother of two, never thought she’d find love again after losing her husband to a sudden battle with cancer.

But all that changed when she started chatting online with Razvan, a Romanian social media star and actor.  Razvan helped pull her out of her grief as she fell in love with his warmth, sense of humor and chiseled, model body.

Now, after 4 months of online dating, Amanda is ready to fly to Romania to meet him for the first time in person. But is she truly ready to open herself up to a new relationship?

And at 26, is Razvan prepared for life with two young children? Will jealousy over Razvan’s career come between them? Will love endure, or is this all a bit too fast?

Let's meet Riley and Violet…

Riley, a military vet, jazz lover, and cigar aficionado, has been scarred by betrayal in his past relationships, but after meeting and falling for his Vietnamese girlfriend Violet online, he’s ready to fly to Vietnam to give love another chance.

But it hasn’t been smooth sailing in the two years since they started talking, and Riley’s concerns have led him to look into hiring a private investigator to determine if he can really trust Violet.

Christian is the self-proclaimed life of the party who's been all over the dating scene but has yet to find ‘the one.’

Enter Cleo, an autistic and neurodivergent trans woman who values quiet time at home in London with her cats. The two met on social media almost a year ago and what started out as a friendship, became a full-fledged romance and both completely smitten.

Hello, Tyray and Carmella!

Tyray is a generous, big-hearted man whose insecurities about his body have held him back from finding love – until 4 years ago when he met the love of his life, Carmella on a dating app.

Even though they communicate exclusively on SnapChat, Carmella has been a huge part of Tyray’s life, supporting him when his mother had a stroke and he had to quit his job and move in with her to be her caretaker.

The connection they’ve formed is so deep that they’ve started talking about marriage, and now Tyray is planning a trip to Barbados so that they can finally meet and he can hopefully propose.

But despite having been talking for 4 years, Tyray’s family knows nothing of his relationship – will they try to stand in the way of true love?

Which bring us to David and Sheila…

David is a kind-hearted, hardworking man who was born completely deaf.

Gino keeps promising Jasmine’s visa will come through any day, but she is growing impatient and forces Gino to rent her a luxury apartment in Panama for the next month while she waits.

Jasmine’s expensive habits leave Gino and his family wondering if she’s only after his money. Finances aren’t the only cause of arguments – they've also been struggling with communication, trust and problems in the bedrooms.

The cheating came to light after the episode was filmed, but TLC cameras caught up with them both following the scandal to give viewers an update.

"You know, it's very shocking, raw, disappointing, saddening," Yve said in a segment.

"He chose to spend his time focused on starting other relationships and engaging in activity that a married man should not be engaging in," she added.

"I asked him if I could see his phone, and that happened and I saw inappropriate things. I saw pictures and calls, and put the pieces together."

Mohamed, for his part, confirmed he was talking to someone, revealing that she started off as a "nice" friend, but the connection got "bigger."

In the aftermath of the Tell-All, Yve has been writing about infidelity on social media, effectively wiping all traces of her husband from her account.

TLC stars are under iron-clad NDAs which prevent them from leaking plots in advance of them playing out on the series, so it's likely they both had to keep up the ruse that they were together.

"Thank you ladies for sharing your stories of infidelity, heartaches & pain," she wrote in an Instagram story on Sunday night after the episode aired.

"Obviously we are not alone. Why commitment for some isn't a commitment."

"There's lots of healing that needs to happen in this world on so many levels."

"If you don't want to be exclusive just say so, so people can make their own informed decisions…" she added.

Now, it has been revealed that Yve was approached by police earlier this month in connection with alleged domestic violence.

People revealed that the charges filed against Yve were by the Albuquerque Police Department and were Battery and Assault Against a Household Member.

The police report states that Yve will have a hearing on Sept. 6.

Yve's representatives shut down the reports, saying that Yve was not formally arrested.

"The domestic abuse allegations have been falsified by Mohammed," Dominique Enchinton told the outlet, saying that the alleged abuse was "false and just a ploy to keep him in the US."

"Yve was not arrested on Aug. 15 or any other day," Enchinton added.

"Yve has never been abusive toward Mohammed and just wants this chapter in her life to be done so she can move forward."

Yve and Mohamed first appeared on the recently wrapped ninth season of the hit reality series, and they had plenty of issues throughout their short-lived relationship.

The series will include six returning couples as they navigate the next chapter of their relationships, and honestly, some of these cast members have had too many chapters for the tired storylines they've been peddling.

We have Angela and Michael, Elizabeth and Andrei, Jovi and Yara, Ed and Liz, Jenny and Summit, & Kim and Usman.

Angela and Michael's story hasn't progressed in years, and beyond the contrived drama between them, there doesn't even seem to be a relationship.

Every conversation ends with Angela yelling down the phone and accusing Michael of things, so  why bother?

It's tough to be invested in these storylines.

Elizabeth and Andrei do always seem to have something going on, but it's almost always thanks to the in-fighting between Elizabeth's family.

They do know how to make trashy TV, so I'll give them that, but please, let's hope they all moved on from fighting about Andre flipping houses.

Jovi and Yara will have their third season on the show, and I'm not sure they need it.

As for Ed and Liz, if The Single Life proved anything, it's that only one of this duo has feelings for the other.

Jenny and Sumit did have some great storylines initially, but it's hard to get invested when there are little stakes.

Kim was pretty much a super fan who fell for Usman and it didn't seem like he was interested in her.

Things are looking up for Elizabeth and Andrei. The pair is moving up in the world: they’ve bought a home, Andrei is settling into work and Libby is considering a career change to pursue her lifelong passion for music.

However, tensions are mounting amidst concerns that Andrei is cutting Libby off from her family.

The couple is committed to making their relationship work and are planning engagement parties and looking for homes together.

But, between the couple’s jealousy and family troubles, everyone wonders: will they or won’t they walk down the aisle?

Jenny, 63 (Palm Springs, CA) and Sumit, 33 (India)

The cat’s out of the bag: Jenny and Sumit are married, and the groom’s family is not happy to hear it.

Sumit’s relatives refuse to acknowledge their nuptials as Jenny grows more and more homesick.

With their marriage off to a rocky start, Sumit is focused on finding a way to repair his relationship with his family.

The couple is also slowly realizing that their age difference may actually be affecting their relationship—their visions for married life may not be compatible.

Will Jenny & Sumit be able to find common ground, or are their lives going in separate directions?

Kim, 51 (San Diego, CA) and Usman, 33 (Nigeria)

Kim travels to Nigeria prepared to propose to Usman. Unfortunately for her, neither partner’s family seems to support the union.

Kim’s son Jamal worries that she’s moving too fast, while Usman’s mother frets about him marrying an older woman who is not able to have children.

As her stay in Nigeria continues, Kim learns the hard way that two’s company and three’s a crowd as the prospect of Usman taking a second wife looms.

Adamant that she must be his first wife, Kim is frustrated by Usman’s family’s determination to set him up with a younger woman before she marries him.

Heated words and milkshakes fly—will Kim be able to accept Usman’s family stipulations on their potential union, or is this relationship doomed to fail?
