After suspending production and airing of 19 Kids and Counting in the wake of a salacious family scandal, TLC has officially pulled the plug on its most popular reality show.

The news comes about two months after Josh Duggar admitted that he sexually molested multiple young girls as a teenage, some of whom were his sisters.

The series premiered in 2008 (as 17 Kids and Counting), chronicling the unusual adventures of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their VERY large family; it wrapped up its ninth season in May.

Days after the Josh Duggar scandal broke, TLC pulled the show from its schedule, saying via statement:

“We are deeply saddened and troubled by this heartbreaking situation, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and victims at this difficult time.”

It seemed like only a matter of time before the move was made permanent.

The cable network had planned to air five episodes of the reality series throughout next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (as well as during the first week of June), but those reruns have now been scraped.

"Effective immediately, TLC has pulled all episodes of 19 Kids and Counting currently from the air.

"We are deeply saddened and troubled by this heartbreaking situation, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and victims at this difficult time," the network says.

It is referring, of course, to the admission by Josh Duggar yesterday that he molested multiple young girls as a teenager in 2002.

According to various reports, Duggar's own sisters were among the alleged victims.

Duggar has admitted to acting "inexcusably" and has expressed "extreme regret" over his actions.

But that hasn't stopped the understandable public backlash, which gave TLC little choice but to take 19 Kids and Counting off the air for the time being.

On Thursday, following reports, rumors and innuendo regarding a sex scandal from his past, Josh Duggar issued a statement that addressed allegations he molested five young girls in 2002.

“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably, for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret,” the 27-year-old said. “I hurt others, including my family and close friends."

According to various insiders, Duggar groped the private parts of multiple girls (including his sisters) both while they were sleeping and while he was interacting with them back in the day.

"We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling,” Duggar added.

“I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life."

Duggar's parents and wife also issued statements in defense of Josh, while TLC is yet to commend on the uproar.

But the network pulled the plug on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo in June following reports that Mama June had been dating a convicted child molester.

So now it must be asked: Should TLC cancel 19 Kids and Counting?
