Jacob Lofland opens up about Cooper’s struggles on Landman, from clashing with Ariana’s cousins to reconnecting with his estranged mother.

On Landman, Jacob Lofland’s Cooper has quickly become a character audiences are rooting for — a young man determined to carve out a place for himself in a harsh and dangerous world.

Landman Season 1 Episode 5, “Where Is Home,” pushed Cooper to his limits yet again as he navigated a budding relationship with Ariana, endured another beating at the hands of her cousins, and faced an awkward reunion with his mother, Angela.

Jacob Lofland shared his thoughts on Cooper’s journey so far, what drives the character forward, and what we can expect from the rest of the season.

Where’s Cooper’s Head At?

Heading into Episode 5, Cooper’s life is a whirlwind of challenges.

Jacob shared, “I don’t know if he knows where his head’s at ever, really. He’s still got this one goal in mind, and that is to make his way as high as he can in this business… and to one day own his own [company].”

Despite the chaos, Cooper remains focused on proving himself.

“He knows he has to do every aspect [of the job],” Jacob added. “He’s trying to figure it out, but at the end of [Episode 5], there’s definitely going to have to be some path change from there.”

Helping Ariana — And Himself

A big part of the episode focuses on Cooper stepping in to help Ariana with her house and bills despite the risks involved with her family.

When asked why Cooper is so willing to put himself out there, Jacob explained, “I think it’s almost like a trauma bonding type thing. It’s helping both of them not to be alone. At the end of the day, he’s got a big heart, and he’s a nice guy just trying to do what he can.”

One standout moment from the episode is the lawn-mowing scene, which Jacob described as a chance to explore Cooper’s vulnerabilities.

“We’ve seen Cooper trying to be this blue-collar working man, but now we get to sit down and see that he’s really just a kid,” Jacob said. “He doesn’t really know what he’s stepping into… It’s kind of a fun little lost moment where she takes the lead. It’s a fun dynamic.”

(Emerson Miller/Paramount+)

Tensions With Ariana’s Family

The tension with Ariana’s cousins reaches a boiling point in this episode, culminating in another brutal beating for Cooper.

Jacob laughed when asked about the repeated violence, “It’s become a running thing for Cooper. He’s always on the ground.”

Filming those intense scenes, however, comes with its own challenges. Jacob credited the stunt team for their seamless work.

“We have one of the best stunt teams around. I had a great double, but they always let me try things first. It’s physically tough, but when you’ve got the right people, it flows and works great.”

As for Cooper’s warning to Manuel — “This is the third and the last time” — Jacob admitted he couldn’t say too much. “It’ll tie itself back together. I’m not going to say it might not be at the hands of Cooper, but it works itself out,” he laughed.

(Emerson Miller/Paramount+)

Family Drama and “Home”

The episode also brings Cooper back into the orbit of his estranged mother, Angela, for an awkward family dinner that does little to repair their fractured relationship.

The tension is palpable as Angela puts on a show of normalcy with rented furniture and a carefully prepared meal, but it’s clear that Cooper isn’t buying it.

Jacob reflected on the dynamic, “I don’t think Cooper really wanted to be there to begin with… I don’t think it did much in the moment. Not for Cooper.”

The episode also contrasts Cooper’s feelings about his biological family and his growing connection with Ariana. Cooper seems to feel more at home helping her than he does with his own family, a sentiment Jacob agrees with.

(Emerson Miller/Paramount+)

“That’s been a really good question… I think as the series progresses, those questions will be answered,” he said, pointing out that while the characters’ backstories aren’t fully revealed yet, there’s hope for clarity later on.

The episode’s title, “Where Is Home,” captures Cooper’s ongoing struggle. He doesn’t have a home.

It’s not in that little box where he waits for the job to start again. It’s not with Ariana, although he’s making it sort of homey. And it’s also not at home with Angela and Tommy.

When asked how long it might take Cooper to find his place, Jacob admitted, “We can only hope soon… Taylor and Christian will definitely lead us on an entertaining path.”

(Emerson Miller/Paramount+)

What’s Next for Cooper?

Jacob teased that the back half of the season will be full of twists and surprises. “Entertaining, super suspenseful, and… cliffhangers,” he said with a grin.

“It’s Taylor Sheridan’s world,” he laughed. “You know you’re going to have some cliffhangers in there!”

And as for Cooper? Jacob believes his character’s blind determination will keep him going. “He’s trying to prove it to himself and his dad and all these people around him,” he said. “He wants it to be seen that he’s done it on his own.”

Whether Cooper can find his home or just keep surviving remains to be seen. One thing is clear — Jacob Lofland’s performance has us rooting for him every step of the way.

Brilliant Minds Sneak Peek: Dr. Wolf Tells Dr. Pierce That He’s Dating Josh https://www.tvfanatic.com/brilliant-minds-season-1-episode-10-exclusive-sneak-peek/ https://www.tvfanatic.com/brilliant-minds-season-1-episode-10-exclusive-sneak-peek/#comments Mon, 02 Dec 2024 16:00:00 +0000 https://www.tvfanatic.com/?p=826256

In this exclusive sneak peek, Dr. Wolf finally tells Carol that he's dating Dr. Josh Nichols. Check out this awkward talk.

Bronx Hospital has been buzzing about the new glow in Dr. Wolf. While the audience has seen the relationship between Dr. Wolf and Dr. Nichols blossom, none of his colleagues know the news yet.

At the end of Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 8, the two men discussed their relationship and decided to try it for real, despite warnings from Oliver’s mom.

As you’ll see in this clip exclusive to TV Fanatic, Dr. Wolf tells Dr. Carol Pierce that he’s dating Dr. Nichols. This is a massive step for him because he’s always avoided serious relationships previously.

(Rafy/ NBC)

This is a big deal because Carol has known Wolf since college and is aware of his dating life or lack thereof.

Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 10 looks drama-filled for Wolf and Carol. It seems that Wolf and Nichols grew even closer when Nichols returned from his conference.

In the exclusive sneak peek below, we get our first taste of Carol’s reaction to her best friend having his first serious relationship.

As you’ll see, Wolf is shocked by her reaction. Carol’s drama must be getting to her.

Wolf and Nichols’s relationship has been an essential part of the series. Even when rivals, they had a grudging respect for one another. In time, that grew into friendship and then more.

They’ve both been scared to jump into anything serious, Wolf especially. Carol has told him for years that he should lower his walls to allow someone to see him.

After he complained about Nichols, she was bound to be surprised by this turnaround.

In his exclusive interview with TV Fanatic, Teddy Sears teased that “there is attraction, attention, and deep respect, a firm foundation for something substantial, not just fleeting. We’re going to explore that going forward.”

(Rafy/ NBC’)

He also teased that their relationship will be tested later this season when they disagree on how to treat an ailing patient, but they will learn to work together.

As Wolf and Nichols grow closer, Carol’s marriage falls further apart, which is probably why she doesn’t want to comment on other people’s relationships.

After Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 9‘s cliffhanger and Carol finding her car vandalized, it makes sense why she’s on edge.

Typically, Carol thrives on giving advice, but psychiatrists often have difficulty taking their own advice. She counseled her husband’s mistress and now questions Morris’s loyalty.

(Rafy/ NBC)

With only a few episodes left of Brilliant Minds Season 1, will the series have the two reconcile or separate them so that Carol is fierce and single in a potential second season?

Outside of that, the team treats an unexpected patient who crashes into Bronx General with life-threatening symptoms.

Most of these cases always affect one of the doctors, and this one affects a first responder and a child, so it’ll be interesting to see who it affects.

Only a few doctors have children, and we’d love to see more development on that other dangling cliffhanger thread.

(Rafy/ NBC)

Brilliant Minds has excelled at featuring both unique cases and crafting genuine chemistry among the relationships.

Check out the clip above, and share your predictions about how Wolf and Nichols’s relationship will evolve now that it is public.

What do you hope to see?

As always, we’ll return after the episode airs with our in-depth review, so be sure to return Monday night for our thoughts on the episode.

Brilliant Minds airs at 10/9c on NBC on Mondays and streams on Peacock on the next day.

What happens when Hallmark magic meets Kansas City Chiefs fandom?

You get Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, a movie so packed with charm, romance, and festive fun, it might just be your next Christmas tradition.

This Hallmark Channel original stars Tyler Hynes and Hunter King, two fan favorites who light up the screen as sparks fly between a die-hard Chiefs fan and the guy tasked with judging her family’s “Fan of the Year” dreams.

Add in a little Christmas magic, a missing vintage hat, and cameos from actual Chiefs players and coaches, and you’ve got yourself a playbook for holiday perfection.

In this exclusive interview, Tyler and Hunter dish on everything that makes this movie special.

From Alana’s (Hunter’s character) multi-generational Chiefs-obsessed family to Derrick’s (Tyler’s character) role as Director of Fan Engagement, the two break down why this story feels so personal.

Spoiler alert: it’s not just about football. It’s about family, fate, and finding love in the middle of the holiday season — and maybe even on the fifty-yard line.

But let’s not pretend it’s all serious talk.

Tyler and Hunter bring their special humor and energy to this chat, sharing adorable banter (you won’t believe who wanted to borrow whose outfit) and spilling what it was really like working with Chiefs royalty, including Donna Kelce

It turns out that blending Hallmark’s warm-and-fuzzy vibes with the Chiefs’ high-energy fandom is a match made in heaven — or at least Kansas City.

And honestly, isn’t this partnership kind of genius?

Both Hallmark and the NFL have fanbases that are fiercely loyal, deeply passionate, and all about creating memorable experiences.

With women now making up nearly 50% of football audiences — thanks in part to Taylor Swift and her NFL star boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — it feels like the perfect time to mix touchdowns with tinsel.

Whether you’re tuning in for the love story, the Chiefs cameos, because you’re Tyler Hynes’s biggest fan, or just to see how these two worlds collide, Holiday Touchdown has something for everyone.

If you’re a fan of football, Christmas, or just really good romantic comedies, you don’t want to miss this movie or our exclusive interview.

Tyler and Hunter are as delightful off-screen as they are on, and they’ve got plenty to say about their characters, the movie’s unique Hallmark-meets-NFL partnership, and why this project feels like the perfect kickoff to the holidays.

Football, family, and festive cheer come together in Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, the Hallmark Channel’s bold blend of Christmas romance and NFL fandom.

In this fun and heartfelt film, Ed Begley Jr., Diedrich Bader, and Megyn Price shine as part of the Higman family, who are not just fans of the Kansas City Chiefs — they’re superfans.

Once you fill your belly on Thanksgiving, fill your heart with the delightful Higman family.

With their comedic timing, heartfelt performances, and undeniable chemistry, this trio proves that the supporting cast can truly steal the show.

Their characters bring warmth, humor, and plenty of quirky traditions to the holiday season, making this story as much about family as it is about football and romance.

And let’s not forget that Hunter King and Tyler Hynes’ characters will have a romance that will have the whole Higman family ready to fumble the ball for love.

In this exclusive interview, Ed, Diedrich, and Megyn share their hilarious and heartfelt perspectives on the movie, football, and the family dynamics that make this story so relatable.

They dive into everything from their personal connections to football to the quirky superstitions that bring extra magic (and chaos) to the Higman family’s Christmas.

And yes, there are plenty of laughs along the way — this cast knows how to keep things entertaining, both on- and off-screen.

This movie is especially timely because it perfectly captures the current crossover between football and pop culture.

With women now making up about half of the NFL’s audience (thanks in no small part to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce), Hallmark’s decision to team up with the Kansas City Chiefs feels like a no-brainer.

Both fandoms are deeply passionate and fiercely loyal. They are all about creating traditions that bring people together. This film celebrates all of that with a holiday twist.

It’s not just the story that makes Holiday Touchdown special — it’s the cast that brings it to life.

While Tyler Hynes and Hunter King lead the way as the film’s romantic duo, the supporting cast — including the three stars in this interview — adds so much heart and personality.

From laugh-out-loud moments to touching family connections, Ed, Diedrich, Megyn, and other exciting stars deliver standout performances that make this movie a must-watch for the season.

If you’re ready to laugh and maybe even believe in a little Christmas magic, this interview is your backstage pass to what makes Holiday Touchdown a touchdown of a movie.

Watch as Ed, Diedrich, and Megyn bring their charm and wit to the conversation, proving why they’re a perfect match for this Hallmark-NFL partnership.

Murder in a Small Town EP Jeff Wachtel shares how they adapted the series and cast the guest stars and teases Season 2. Check it out!

The post Murder in a Small Town EP Jeff Wachtel Shares the Best of Season 1 and Teases Potential Season 2 appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
Murder in a Small Town ended Season 1 by solving its latest murder mystery but started character arcs for almost every main character.

That was smart, leaving the door open for a potential Season 2. We talked to executive producer Jeff Wachtel, an expert on blue-sky procedurals since he’s helmed many like Monk and Suits.

Wachtel shared his thoughts on the best of Murder in a Small Town Season 1, including Karl and Cassandra’s relationship and James Cromwell’s performance as George Wilcox.

(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

He also discussed the challenges of adapting a long-running book series to television, casting guest stars, and some teasers for a potential Season 2.

Check out the interview below.

The finale ended by solving the murders but left a few stories open for the main characters. What are the chances of a second season?

It’s from your lips. The ratings have been excellent and on the upswing. Everybody was slightly nervous about the three-week hiatus for the World Series and the election.

We returned pretty strong, and it was even better the following week. The L7s were particularly strong for Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 6.

People who missed it live wanted to catch up. It’s up to the network. We think a show that is a co-production with a much lower price point than some of their other series performs better than most, and it’s building a loyal audience base.

Kristin Kreuk and Rossif Sutherland in the series premiere of MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN
( Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

Not every show finds its rhythm in the first season. I think this show found its rhythm in the first scene in the café. I read the script, saw the dead body and a beautiful location, and then read this incredible dating scene on page four.

That’s not a typical show. This was a relationship we could root for. Then we cast Rossif, who has this beautiful, warm, shaggy but a bit of an internal sensibility.

He doesn’t like to rush into the room with a macho fervor. He plays it close to the vest. He has some damage but approaches the world with kindness and thoughtfulness.

It’s all Zoom these days for chemistry reads. Kristin poked him in the right way. He read with a few actresses before her, and, you know, he was on the script and doing his thing, and it was all fine.

When Kristin Kreuk came in and started jabbing, you saw him stand up and look up from his script, which changed things.

Kristen Kruek as Cassandra Mitchell-gallery photo
(James Dimmock/ FOX)

She wasn’t going along and getting along. She was her own fully realized character and the heart and soul of the show. I think you think the heart and soul of the show is their relationship.

Oh, I do. So, do you think Karl and Cassandra’s relationship helped to promote the series, then?

It is terrific in many ways. It’s a beautiful blue-sky closed-ended, well-executed, well-acted, well-written procedural. He will probably get to the root of the crime with the help of his trusty band of intelligent people.

But I don’t know what will happen with the two of them. They’re fully dimensional adults with exciting stories about which we will learn more.

If we get Season 2, we’ll learn more about what a spectacularly gorgeous, incredibly well-educated woman is doing in a little resort town. We’ll also learn more about Karl and his mother, whom he may have idealized in some ways but who was damaged.

Date Night-Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 2
(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

Cassandra will have a legitimate career arc; the political aspect we mentioned in the finale plays out more.

Those are excellent teasers. If we get a Season 2, will we see more of Sid and Corporal Yen? Because we’ve only touched the surface of their backstories, and they are also fan favorites.

100%. We teased Isabella, too, with her application to law school, and that’s an open door she will walk through. Many things that were just mentioned will be more dimensional.

Corporal Yen had a phenomenal scene in episode 6, where she confessed to Cassandra that she feels real guilt about having been selected as the face of solving a crime she doesn’t feel like she earned. She will have to work through those demons as well as her personal life.

We were happy with our guest and supporting casting on this show. Mya was somebody I saw on Yellowjackets, and then I learned that she was Canadian and wanted to work in Vancouver.

We were between some dates and other things she was doing, and she was a guest. I think she’s incredible. We don’t have a deal with her for the second season yet, but we hope and intend to bring her back.

(FOX/ YouTube Screenshot)

Aaron Douglas is another. I love the character actors, Laura. Long-time character actors, you’re usually in excellent hands when you give them the reins and let them run.

It started for me with Monk and Tony Shalhoub. Tony Shalhoub had never played a lead when we cast him as Monk. But everybody knew how brilliant he was, and he was an incredible career character actor who was ready for his moment.

So that’s what you want. You want a show with amazing chemistry between the two principals. You can write a scene for Aaron and Mya and not worry about the audience’s attention drifting because they’re also great.

I think Yen and Isabella are two characters who have found each other. We wish we had more real estate to write about in the first season. In the second season, we will write about their relationship. They had excellent chemistry in the scene where they were together at the gym.

I can’t wait. I enjoy their friendship. So, since you think you will probably get a second season, how will you tackle that if there are only three books left of material?

We never thought we would live in the books forever. In one of your columns, you made a good point about the difficulty of adapting and jamming a novel into a 60-minute format.

Rossif Sutherland in the series premiere of Murder of a Small Town
(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX.)

What we could do with the first one was originally a two-hour that we cut back to an hour and a half to be more expensive with that one.

In general, we don’t need them. We know who the character is. We always knew that we had a limited runway with the novels on the long-running series.

Ian Weir is spectacular at adapting and bringing texture and other things to books. I haven’t read all the books, but I read a couple of them, which don’t mirror the episode.

As an astute viewer, you will have seen that the last two episodes were a book, but the network wanted to have some resolution to the second to Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 7.

They did not want to do a two-parter because they were concerned about audience retention. The story in the gym is an invented story that we did to ensure closure. If you know the book, it’s about the high school teacher and the serial killer.

(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

But an audience that may only want to watch it as a closed-ended has a resolution. It’s a murder. It’s a dad protecting his kid, and it resolves. And by the way, I think we’re dealing with a serial killer. So, there’s a bit of a continuation.

The short answer is that we’re fine. I don’t even know if we’re using those last three books. I’m not sure where Ian is. I know where we are in the first four episodes of Story Break, but I don’t know if he’s used any of the novels in the potential Season 2.

We’re feeling just fine. We have established all of the characters and the place. And we will continue to be faithful to the world that she created. But we don’t need more novels to take us down that path.

So, what would you say to diehard fans complaining that the series is not exactly like the books? I like it the way it is, but I still have people complaining in my articles that it’s not like the books.

Anybody doing what we do for a living must walk a tightrope between honoring the diehard fans of existing material and creating a world open to new viewers and people. Denis Villeneuve needed to do it with Dune, and we needed to do it with Murder in a Small Town.

It’s a tightrope that we carefully walk, honoring the long legacy of these books and the people who were the most in love with them.

Sgt. Sid-Murder in the Small Town Season 1 Episode 2
(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

We have also introduced an entirely new audience who does not have to have read the books to fall in love with them, especially because the core audience of the books is pretty small relative to the millions of people experiencing them on Fox.

So, yes, we’re honoring that. We understand that the true diehards will question things, and hopefully, they’ll know that creating a television series means serving a much bigger audience and a different rhythm of storytelling.

As you’ve already noted, it’s kind of tough to take a 250-page book and cram it into 42 minutes of television.

I also think it’s harder to do thrillers. I’ve also written articles on Will Trent, which is a murder thriller series that was turned into a TV series.

Liz Heldens is an old friend; I think she’s done excellent work on the show. Of course, each network has its sensibility. Fox is a bit more literal about things than ABC, which tends to have a bit more of a wink at the audience, maybe with High Potential.

You’re trying to create great work and serve the audience you think you should be serving. And then, three, it’s a business. The network is the project’s primary licensee.

Meeting Gordon Murphy-Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 5
( Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

They are the most critical investors in it as the primary exhibition, and you have to listen to them. They have many thoughts about storytelling, too.

Totally. I’ve read some of the books, and I think they keep the heart of it in it when it’s developed for TV.

That’s probably the best word for it. If you want to keep the heart of it, then some of the limbs might be slightly different. You try to retain that as long as you have the heart and soul.

Is there anything you wish had been done differently this season?

I think we exceeded expectations. We have a smaller budget than some other shows.

To a casual or dedicated viewer, you can’t compare an episode of our show to any of the other shows on the network that cost 50% more, and nobody will say this is the bargain basement version. We are punching above our weight creatively and with production.

It would be nice to have a little bit more money. I want to explore some other locations in Season 2. There’s a little bit of that Murder She Wrote convenience—a whole lot of murders that are happening in a pretty small area.

We hope the audience was with us for the first part of the journey. We’re aware that you can’t do that forever. One of the places that we’re going in Season 2 has an expanded purview.

I would have liked to have been more free-ranging, traveling 100 miles north or entering Vancouver or the big city. We’re already figuring out other places to go in the second season.

Are you dreaming of big Canadian guest stars for next season, too?

As someone who has been very kind to the show and a fan of what we’ve done so far, I want to retain and do better. The movie was written 30 years ago, and Donald Sutherland was attached to star in the lead role as Alberg. The movie never came together.

When I saw the script two years ago, Donald played George Wilcox in the two-hour pilot.

Then he got older, and his health was failing, and he couldn’t do it. He wanted to do it after we cast Rossif, which was a fun coincidence. They were very close. But his health was failing, and he couldn’t.

James Cromwell and Kristin Kreuk in the series premiere of MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN
(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

So, we made our wish list, and at the top of my dream list was James Cromwell. I had an excellent relationship with his fantastic agent, Chris Schmidt. She said Cromwell responds to material, so I sent her the script.

He loved it, and he was spectacular to work with. He was an 85-year-old shooting at two in the morning, schlepping a rowboat up a hill.

That one scene, which is one of my favorites in the season, where he’s doing the memory piece about how he failed his sister and feels complicit in his parents’ death just by the fact that he wished them dead.

We’re going to try to get him an Emmy nomination. I think it’s at that level. So that set the tone. By the way, Fox was on board. We couldn’t afford him within our budget, so they stepped up. He’s a world-class actor.

Different people want different things. Stana Katic was essential to Fox because she brought that Castle audience. I was in love with having Noah Reid from Schitt’s Creek because he’s such an outstanding actor and only known as the sweet, good boyfriend.

Stana Katic Plays Zoe Strachan in Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 3
( Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

I thought no one was going to believe he was a serial killer. I thought that was a tremendous gift. He’s not a super famous guy, but that’s the level of guest cast that we will continue to reach for. Sometimes, you want it. Then, there’s the reunion episode.

Erica and Kristin. I was a huge Smallville fan. I liked that one.

So that was another. We were able to make some hay with that on the promotion.

Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 2 was about the two brothers, the rooked construction guy, and the reunion. That one didn’t call for a high-end guest star. There were three or four crucial characters.

So, we spent our money not getting regular day players but stepping up to the level of actors. None of the characters were featured here.

Reliving Prom-Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 2
(Kailey Schwerman/ FOX)

But every scene was significant, and there were a bunch of scenes that did not involve Karl and Cassandra. We better have some excellent actors. So that’s where we put our money. So, it’ll always be about like that.

Well, I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me. My fans are going to love this article.

Hopefully, we’ll have good news for them sooner than March. We have a unique production schedule and need to take advantage of Gibson.

We hope to be back in production in the spring and hope for good news. If it does happen, it won’t be as late as March.

Murder in a Small Town currently streams on Hulu.

There’s a new member on the 118 team during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 8, and he’s got a very recognizable face.

Brad Torrence, Hotshots star and thorn in Bobby’s side, not only “joined” the 118 at the tail end of 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7, but he’s now suiting up for calls! What could possibly go wrong?

As you’ll see in this clip exclusive to TV Fanatic, the 118 is called to the scene of an emergency where an explosion of wastewater has left a mess of accidents, and Brad’s ready to get his hands dirty.

Brad’s arrival at the firehouse was unexpected for Bobby and the rest of the team.

But the midseason finale promises to show us just how his addition to the tight-knit squad works out for everyone.

In this exclusive clip below, we get our first little taste of that: a serious emergency for the crew.

As you’ll see, Brad’s pretty excited to get in on the action.

The Hotshots storyline has been a steady presence throughout the first half of this season, and the midseason looks to offer more of the same, as Brad sees the up close and personal side of what it means to be a real firefighter, not just pretend to be one on TV.

As 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear previewed for us last week in our exclusive interview, “You’re going to see some chaos, and then you’re going to see some of that bluster and façade kind of stripped away, and you’re going to see maybe the real man underneath.

“And it’s The Wizard of Oz, right? It’s like, ‘If you ever go looking for your heart’s desire, don’t look any further than your own backyard.’ His life may have meaning that he doesn’t even understand that maybe he will learn.”

Brad’s foray into actual firefighting will undoubtedly be a learning experience for the famous actor, who may also have to deal with the realities of being recognized while on a call.

Brad looks on at the scene in front of him during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 8.
(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

The actor seems to revel in the spotlight, though, so if that were to arise again, it’ll be fascinating to see how he navigates that.

But Brad won’t be the only person with a significant role in the closing hour of 2024, as Athena finds herself dealing with the assault of a man found behind a grocery store.

Athena thrives when tasked to helm an investigation, and this one will surely be no different.

Outside of that, some lingering plot points will be addressed, as Minear also told us, “What I would say is that episode eight this year is more kind of tying up some story threads that have been set up in the first eight episodes.”

We can think of a few story threads we’d like to see more development on (hint, hint: hello, Mr. Diaz), but we’ll have to see what the installment has in store for us before we dive into the hiatus.

Buck and Eddie help out while the water falls during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 8.

9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 9 will return on March 6, 2025, but before we get too sad about that reality, we still have another hour of the veteran drama to devour!

Check out the clip above, and hit the comments with all your predictions about what the midseason finale will bring.

What are you hoping to see?

As always, we’ll be back after the episode airs with an in-depth review of the hour and our thoughts about what could come when the show returns.

Ellis frantically searches for his wife during FROM Season 3 Episode 9, and we discussed his plight with star Corteon Moore in this exclusive interview.

Ellis Stevens has had a rough go of it in FROM Season 3.

When the season began, he and his wife Fatima were in a good place as recent newlyweds expecting their first child, but things have gone from bad to worse, as they typically do in FROM land.

After learning they weren’t expecting as previously thought, Fatima continued to believe something was growing inside her, and her mood swings culminated in her stabbing Tillie during FROM Season 3 Episode 7.

Elgin prepares to find his wife during FROM Season 3 Episode 9.
(Chris Reardon/MGM+)

Ellis and his father Boyd temporarily took Fatima out of town, but unbeknownst to them, Elgin took her to a secret underground room, where he’s housing her thanks to the apparition he’s been seeing all season.

That led to a missing Fatima during FROM Season 3 Episode 9 and a devastated Ellis.

As previously stated, it’s been quite the journey for Ellis, who not only fretted about his missing wife during the hour but also saw him learning about his father’s illness for the first time.

It’s an emotional hour on top of what’s been an emotional season for the younger Stevens, and we were lucky to spend some time with the always-charming Corteon Moore to talk about it all.

Check it out below FROM fanatics!

Ellis and Elgin head out to look for Fatima during FROM Season 2 Episode 9.
(Chris Reardon/MGM+)

I wanted to go back an episode or so, as we didn’t get to see the fallout from Ellis’s reaction after he walks into the shed and sees Tillie dead and everything that happened with Fatima.

So, how do you think he reacted in the aftermath, and what do you think his first thoughts were when he walked in there?

Oh, God. It was so long ago, and I’m trying to remember. I feel like I worked on something on my own that would kind of map this whole question out, and I remember it mostly switching into fight or flight. It’s kind of in that moment.

Especially after everything these two characters have been through, everything that went down with his mom, and just the rising tensions in the town, it was an immediate thing of just like, we got to go, or we got to do something. It’s just you and I.

At that moment, his immediate reaction was obviously panicked; he was heartbroken, especially because of Tillie’s last conversation with him, which was really sweet. It took a sweet old lady who just really reached out to a stranger for no reason, and now there she is, dead with a pair of shears in her chest.

I think it was just an immediate panic heartbreak, but really, it was like, and I think he learns a lot of this from Boyd, but it doesn’t matter. I’m going to protect my family. That’s it. So, whatever we got to do, we got a pack, we got to go to the woods, we got to go the shed, we got to find somewhere else to go to.

But you and I are getting out of this, and that’s all that matters.

Ellis and Fatima continue dealing with Fatima's health during FROM Season 3 Episode 7.
(Chris Reardon/MGM+)

Ellis has been a little bit all over the place, but I think one thing he’s managed to do is be patient. He’s been a very patient person this season.

Trying to.

I think he has. Well, maybe you disagree with this, but how do you think he’s been able to have that patience? How has he been able to keep his head on straight with everything?

I don’t know. Look, it’s a personal thing for me. I remember for most of the season, even after they found out that Fatima was not pregnant, I was holding on to this idea that Ellis would be a dad.

And even in the aftermath of that, it’s not an easy thing to come to terms with the fact that you’re not going to be a father regardless of where you are. I can only imagine thinking you’re going to be a parent and then thinking you’re not going to be a parent. That’s a really devastating idea to bear.

So, I honestly think he’s been compartmentalizing this whole season and not absorbing much information. He’s dealing with what he can, whichever task is at hand, but nothing is actually fully hitting him until, I think, the very, very end.

And even at that point, I don’t think we ever really see him come fully to terms with anything that’s happened in this season; just simply too much. He’s still dealing with the loss of his mom, although he’s made some strides with that.

A Sight - FROM Season 2 Episode 3
(MGM+/Chris Reardon)

He’s still dealing with everything that happened when he was stabbed, and the blood transfusion, and things are getting crazy, and everything with the food, it’s just way, way too much. So, I think this patience is just coming from a place of him just trying to keep anything together.

Don’t be too reactionary; don’t get too upset. Try to speak your mind, but everybody stop. Just stop. Don’t tell me anything bad. Don’t do anything bad. And if you do something bad, I will try and find a quick solution because we need this done.

I wish I could say he was more patient and more of a forgiving person, but I don’t really think he is. I honestly think he’s overwhelmed and trying to make do and not lose his mind.

Trying to get from A to B every day.

Ellis didn’t know he was in the dark about Boyd’s health until episode nine. How does he handle that news internally? Is it something he’s even able to process in the moment with everything going on, or is it something he hears and has to move on?

No, you put it well in terms of whether or not he’s able to process it in the moment.

It’s at this moment, and when we find out there’s an ultrasound, the two moments where Ellis is fully in the moment and allowing himself to retrieve this new information because, in a way, those are two very life-changing pieces of information.

A Drink Before The Party - FROM Season 1 Episode 7
(Chris Reardon/Epix)

When he found out that he was going to be a dad last season, he went through this whole thing. Then the ultrasound came in, and that was the first time they could figure out what was going on.And then now you fast-forward to Boyd telling him about his Parkinson’s.

And that’s like, you can’t escape that. You’re stuck in the sheriff’s station. The sun is down. It’s just you and your dad. And circumstances aside, that’s quality time you get with your family in this place, and he tells you something so heartbreaking. I know in the beginning he’s really upset that he didn’t tell him.

He’s upset that Kenny knew. Are you kidding me? That’s not your kid. And that’s something that still needs to be explored as to why Boyd treats Kenny like a son all the time.

But, I think it was more so just another thing that was stacking up on Ellis’s plate, but at the end of the day, he’s so focused on, again, just being there for his family and what are you going to do, really, what are you going to do?

You have to get out of this town and be there for your family, and then that’s it.

There’s nothing, but being angry at anybody or being angry at your own dad for not telling you something so sad is honestly probably the best-case scenario up until this moment because he was dealing with the whole baby thing and the whole Fatima thing.

Of course, he couldn’t take on that much more stress. I think it’s definitely going to change the relationship moving forward and the idea of time being more precious between the two of them and being able to truly be there for one another, especially after experiencing such shared traumas.

Ellis Thinks From Season 1 Episode 8
(Chris Reardon/Epix)

It will be interesting to watch them grow as father and son after that.

On a scale of one to suspicious, how suspicious is Ellis of Elgin as they’re out in the woods in this episode, and what can you tease about what we’ll see when we head into the finale?

Yo. Elgin was tripping in the woods. I remember when I first read the script, I was like, “This is really suspicious.” As soon as I saw how Nathan [D. Simmons] was playing it too, and Elgin was interacting with me, I was like, “What the hell is going on?”

And I didn’t know because we didn’t have the next episodes available to us yet. So, one too suspicious, I’d give him a trillion levels. Whatever is past the most suspicious you could possibly be. I think he’s definitely up to something crazy, and Ellis is not stupid or dumb. So he’s about to pop out to do something soon.

Really soon, because that’s my wife.

Three Wise Men and a Baby was one of the highlights of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas in 2023, and it’s wonder.

If you put Tyler Hynes, Paul Campbell, and Andrew Walker in a room, magic happens — especially when they talk about Hallmark’s upcoming holiday sequel, Three Wiser Men and a Boy.

Between the laughs and playful banter, it’s clear the bromance is still alive and well, and so is their knack for delivering holiday joy.

(TV Fanatic/Hallmark)

We had to ask Andrew the big question: Are the Brenner brothers actually wiser this time around? His answer was classic Andrew.

“We’re smarter at being dumber,” he joked before getting a little real about life as a parent. “You lose track of yourself… your mental health, your partnership with your wife.”

In Three Wiser Men and a Boy, Andrew’s character, Luke, is finding his way through life’s curveballs.

He used to be the young firefighter on calendars. Now he’s the chief watching younger, fitter guys do what he used to do.

Sounds like Luke’s in for some soul-searching — and undoubtedly, many laughs along the way.

Speaking of festive fun, the guys are taking this movie to the high seas, premiering Three Wiser Men and a Boy on a Hallmark Christmas cruise.

And here’s the kicker: as you’re reading this, all four of us — Tyler, Paul, Andrew, and me — are cruising together because I’m one of the lucky Hallmarkies who snagged a spot on one of the two inaugural cruises!

Tyler’s excitement was evident as he talked about the ongoing party vibe with Hallmark.

He loves that it’s like we’re all having fun together — the folks making the movies, the people watching, even people like me covering it covering it. It’s no wonder people want to be a part of it.

And it’s true — Hallmark’s contagious Christmas cheer is bigger than ever, and this trio knows how to spread it. From teasing each other during the interview to their deep appreciation for the Hallmark community, their energy is exactly what fans love.

(Photo by Dave Kotinsky/Getty Images for Hallmark Media)

We couldn’t let Paul off the hook without grilling him about writing this sequel.

Was it hard? “Oh yeah,” Paul said, admitting sequels are tough. “You don’t want to repeat things, and you don’t want to just do the Brenners go to Vegas,” he deadpanned.

Instead, Paul and co-writer Kimberly Sustad focused on what made Three Wise Men and a Baby so special: heartfelt moments about love, family, and acceptance.

Paul said it really was a team effort, revealing how tired he was by the end. Meanwhile, Andrew was impressed with how hard Paul worked.

Andrew said Paul never stopped, rewriting on the fly and handing them the pages in the makeup trailer that they would workshop together.

(Photo by Dave Kotinsky/Getty Images for Hallmark Media)

As the conversation wrapped up, it was clear these guys had earned their time on the cruise. While I wish for them to relax a little on the high seas, they’re clearly in this for the fans.

Their enthusiasm is infectious, their chemistry unmatched, and the holiday cheer undeniable.

Bobby found himself pulled back on the Hotshots set on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7, and we chatted with Peter Krause about the new development!

The post 9-1-1’s Peter Krause Talks Hotshots, Bobby’s Return To The 118 & More appeared first on TV Fanatic.

]]>
When 9-1-1 Season 8 began, Bobby Nash found himself away from his team at the 118 and in the entertainment business as a technical advisor on the television series Hotshots.

The show-within-a-show angle has played out comically throughout the first half of the season, and Bobby’s relationship with Hotshots star Brad Torrance has also been a highlight.

Bobby found an admirer in Brad, which plays out even more during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7, when Bobby and the 118 are called to the Hollywood set when a stunt goes wrong.

Bobby returns to his old job during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7.
(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)

With Vincent Gerrard now taking his place as technical advisor, things are running less smoothly on set, and the relationship between Gerrard and Brad is complicated at best.

When Bobby is tasked with returning to his short-lived place of employment to help Gerrard become more likable and thus foster a better working relationship with Brad, it feels like an impossible task.

Coming out of such a big Bobby hour, we chatted with star Peter Krause about this Hotshots story and the relationship between Bobby and Brad, which sees a bit of friction when Brad causes a scene at a restaurant.

Bobby may have thought that Hotshots was behind him when he returned to his team, but he can’t seem to escape it, which is something that Krause finds comical.

“It’s a funny element that this job that he wound up getting from prematurely leaving the 118 leads to all these other messes and that Brad Torrance won’t leave him alone,” Krause said.

“I, Peter, think it’s very funny from the outside just viewing the show. I think it’s frustrating for Bobby, but I also think that Bobby has a soft spot for Brad, even though they have the fight there in the restaurant over his treatment of the waitress.

Bobby finds himself in charge on the Hotshots set during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7.
(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)

“I think Bobby likes Brad. He doesn’t like everything about him. And it was certainly an unwelcome surprise that Brad will now be riding along with him. It adds a dimension of certainly distraction and potential disaster. Who knows how Brad might get in the way in the future?”

Bobby heading back a second time during this hour to the Hotshots set is requested of him by Chief Simpson, and while Bobby’s used to stepping into a bit of a therapist role through his job as captain, this one is a little different in scope.

It’s challenging to change a grown man and make him more likable, but Bobby’s up to the challenge.

However, as Krause explained, Bobby may have another agenda.

“He wants to be liberated from Gerard and liberated from Brad and just go back to the 118 and have things the way they were,” Krause told us when asked how Bobby feels about being asked to facilitate change in Gerrard.

The 118 deal with an emergency on the Hotshots set during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7.
(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)

“But he’s a fire captain, he’s a good leader, and he’s there to solve problems when problems come up, so I think it’s Bobby just being typical Bobby, trying to do the right thing, trying to help people.

“But, interestingly, his intentions are actually to be rid of these guys, and they just won’t go away, which is comedy. It’s good.”

Brad’s infatuation with Bobby has played out throughout the season. And the actor hasn’t been shy about lavishing Bobby with praise and trying to mimic his actions in his portrayal of a firefighter.

But is there a deeper reasoning behind Brad’s admiration?

“I think it’s pretty much on its face that he wants to be bought as a legitimate fire captain on television, and so maybe there’s some emptiness that Brad feels that will be filled by really going out there and experiencing what it’s like to be a real firefighter.

“And I think he wants to be authentic or at least thought as being authentic as a fire captain.”

Bobby and the 118 find themselves on the Hotshots set during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 7.
(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)

Bobby has often shown great patience with Brad throughout their time together. Still, he hits his limit with him during an uncomfortable dinner, where Brad lambasts a server for not adhering to his specific drink order.

Bobby doesn’t hold back in his dressing down of the famous actor, with other restaurant goers eagerly filming the encounter.

Stepping in is almost second nature for Bobby, as Krause explained, “I think he has certain standards, and he gets fed up when he sees people mistreat others, so I do think that that’s something that really bothers Bobby, seeing Brad treat that person the way that he did.”

While Bobby’s relationship with Brad seemed irretrievably broken after their restaurant standoff, Brad only liked Bobby even more after he stood up to him, and the episode culminates in Brad joining the 118 to shadow the captain himself.

Considering what we’ve seen of Brad already, especially during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 3, it’s safe to assume he will insert himself right into the thick of the action.

As Krause told us, “Well, unsurprisingly, he will get in the way, and there’s some fallout, but it’s ultimately really fun. Brad learned some things. I would say that Bobby learned some things, too, but ultimately, it’s all for fun.

“There will be disruption, but all in all, it’s kind of fun hijinks, and there are some nice surprises coming up that Brad Torrance, that Hotshots storyline, brings to the 118. So, if the audience has been enjoying it, there’s more coming. It’s been a really nice, relatively lighthearted storyline.

“It is nice to see Bobby stand up to Brad when he mistreats that woman in the restaurant. And I do think that there is something that feels empty inside of Brad, as played by Callum Blue, who’s been fun to work with. Everybody’s really enjoyed that character, and him, on set.

“So, it’s been really fun this season 8 to have something lighthearted like that to run with for a while.”

That dynamic between Krause and Blue has undoubtedly translated well on screen, and the two got a hug in during this hour, which Krause enjoyed.

“It was fun this episode that Tim wrote in these hugs between Bobby and Brad, but then also Bobby and Gerrard. There’s this nice kind of comedic run of men hugging each other throughout this time,” Krause said.

Hugs are always great, and the hugs were plentiful when Bobby finally returned during the back to the 118 during the closing moments of 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 4.

Bobby’s in a much different place now than when he quit during 9-1-1 Season 7, and he’s happy to be back where he belongs.

“Oh, it feels like coming home,” Krause proclaimed when asked how Bobby feels now about being with the team. “That’s his work family. He’s got Athena obviously at home, but the firehouse is his home as well.

“And it’s also really fun for the five of us to get to work with each other. We’re all very fond of each other and work well together, but there’s that aspect. But for me, Peter, I’m really glad that Bobby chose to retire back in season 7. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have Hotshots. We wouldn’t have all this stuff.”

Speaking of Athena and their home, Krause didn’t know much about the plans for Bobby and Athena and the long-gestating house hunt.

But when the series returns after the winter hiatus, “I believe there will be a time leap, so I don’t know if we’ll be continuing to be looking or if we found a place or if we’re building or if we’re already going to be at a place.”

While Krause couldn’t tell us more about what we’ll see from Bathena during 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 8, as “so much revolves around a couple of plot points that I don’t think I’m ready to divulge,” he did leave us with a major tease for the final hour of 2024.

“I can tell you something major happens to one of the main characters, something shocking. The fall season, if you will, ends on a high note even though we go through some tough moments.”

If you’re a fan of Hallmark and its Countdown to Christmas celebration, you already know Andrew Walker. He’s a mainstay who always brings warmth and authenticity to every role he plays.

But what you may not realize is how deeply he values the people he works with and the fans who embrace his work.

Chatting with Andrew is like a window into a world where kindness, humility, and gratitude aren’t just words; they’re his way of life.

“The silent disco and all these things we wouldn’t normally get to do with fans — it’s going to be quite the experience.”

With a whopping 70,000 people on the waitlist, the cruise is proof of just how much fans love Hallmark. But for Andrew, that adoration still feels surreal.

“I’m always surprised. I always feel like I’m going to show up at one of these things, and then that’s going to be the telltale.

“I’m like, okay, all right, finally people have figured me out. They’re not interested in me anymore. And there’s no line. Nobody wants to see me,” he admitted with a laugh, sharing a glimpse of his humility.

Andrew’s gratitude for his career is clear. “There are so many actors that are out of work,” he said, reflecting on the challenges in the industry.

“Just to be a working actor and have people want to see my work and be around and say hi and thank me for it, it’s truly a special situation.”

Being part of a close-knit group of actors who are also genuine friends must make it all the more fulfilling. They’re not just actors working together; they’re genuine friends — and some family.

“And that’s why does not go unnoticed daily,” he said. “I will say it to my wife. I’m like, I just can’t believe it.”

He laughed as he recounted a recent family moment. “I’d just ordered my candy cane costume for fan events, and I walked out with it on…my boys were like, ‘Daddy, what’s that?’”

Andrew laughed, “This is what your daddy does for a living.”

Hallmark events like the Christmas Con and the upcoming cruise have become special to Andrew, who values meeting fans in person and hearing their stories.

After the Hallmark Cruise’s inaugural sail, one fan shared how Andrew’s Jingle Bell Run costar, Ashley Williams, made her feel seen and supported during a difficult time. Andrew wasn’t surprised by this story.

“Ashley is an empath,” he said, clearly moved by her compassion.

He described how their families have grown close, even joking about how near they live to each other. “Where the crow flies, it would be like a five-minute walk, but we have to go down one canyon to come up another.”

The friendship he’s built with Ashley over the years added electricity and depth to their chemistry in Jingle Bell Run. In the movie, Andrew plays Wes, a former professional hockey player hoping for his next big break.

While he’s aching to find the limelight again by participating in the reality competition show, Ashley’s character, Avery, is an elementary school teacher who prefers to keep her head down and act on behalf of others.

Together, they both discover new things about themselves, pulling out the very best in each other. That’s a story that resonates deeply with Andrew.

“When you’re around people who are of service constantly, you start thinking…am I leading a life of compassion?” Andrew explained.

“That’s what it was like in Jingle Bell Run. Wes just kept being reminded of his past, and spending time with Ashley’s character brought out the best in him.”

One thing that keeps Andrew humble is the normalcy of his family life. He’s a dad who changes diapers, mows the lawn, and treasures moments with his wife and kids.

Reflecting on his Hallmark journey, he laughed about his first fan event. “You have imposter syndrome, right? I’m like, why are people here? Why are people waiting to see me?”

It wasn’t until he heard the personal stories of fans — people seeking comfort or joy in Hallmark’s movies during tough times — that he understood the impact of his work.

“It’s not about me. It’s about the brand…the magic…all the things this network has done,” he said, emphasizing that he’s simply part of a much bigger picture.

In our conversation, we joked about the possibility of a Hallmark-themed competition show similar to The Great Holiday Dash, which is featured in the movie. Andrew loved the idea.

“It would be really great for people to see Andrew Walker trying to run a half marathon or trying to get somewhere, and I’m breaking down. I’m struggling, and I’m trying to get myself through it.,” he chuckled, imagining fans seeing a more vulnerable side of him.

He went on to imagine his friend and fellow Hallmark star Tyler Hynes, as well. “Tyler’s like Mr. Cool Guy constantly, but I’d love to see Tyler with a little tear streaming down his face because he doesn’t want to eat the bowl of cockroaches!”

His humor, grounded in reality, embodies Andrew’s playful, down-to-earth side, which makes him a fan favorite.

When I asked how he’d be spending the holidays, his answer was far from ordinary. This year, Andrew and his family are off to Southeast Asia. “We’re going to have a beach Christmas and then Singapore for New Year’s,” he shared with excitement.

Even more special, he’s set to officiate the vow renewal of his two best friends. “I’m the officiant,” he said proudly, adding that it would make this trip even more unforgettable.

Andrew gives of himself freely, which makes conversations like these and his work on screen something to truly appreciate.

When I thanked Andrew for his time, kindness, and dedication to fans, he shared how much he looks forward to spending time with everyone on the cruise. “I’m there for the fans,” he assured me.

“I want to get around to everybody and get a little moment or two with people.” And yes, his wife will be there, too. “She’s almost a bigger celebrity than I am,” he joked, giving fans one more reason to look forward to meeting him in person.

For Andrew Walker, being a part of the Hallmark family is a privilege he cherishes.

He loves his work, treasures his friendships, and values the connection he shares with his fans. And that’s the real magic that keeps us all watching.

Jingle Bell Run premieres on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, November 16 at 8/7c.
